10 STARS I have been meaning to write this review for a while, but you know, life, and well, now that my 2019 Macbook Pro is like brand new, thanks to Geeks4Mac, I've been busy! Geeks4Mac are hands down, the best in the city!!!! AND seriously, the coolest cats around! I first went to Best Buy due to urgency and convenience at that time, (super nice folks but couldn't help me) and they quickly tried to sell me a Best Buy tech year membership, or a new laptop. And of course I went to APPLE, but they too leaned on the "buy a new laptop" shtick, things that made no sense to my pocket, nor brain! lol I did some online research and found Geeks4Mac. We started a dialogue via text where I could share my detailed issues. This was amazing. I truly felt heard and felt their integrity ASAP. They were not just trying to sell me something. FYI though, they do sell refurbished macs! And I would absolutely buy one from them if it came to that, someday. Geeks4Mac also gave me hope that I might revitalize my older macbook pros, if I wish to do so. I have kept my two previous models. I've even told my out of state friends to call them, and see about shipping their mac to them... That's how much I love and trust Geeks4Mac. Did I already say, the kindest people? Dropped off item on January 20. February 6 I reached out to Eric and asked about an update in regard to the hard drive and what kind of external hard drive I should buy to replace the one I had. Six days later on February 12 he responds and tells me about what kind of hard drive to buy and he says I have no estimated timeframe in regard to when I will get your hard drive fixed. On March 5 I reach out to Eric and ask him for an update again. He responds to me the following day with saying he has no timeframe in regard to repair. The following day I reach out and say do what you can in regards to the repair and can I drop off the external hard drive that I just purchased. No response. Reach out again on March 10 and ask about dropping off the device again meaning my external hard drive. That day I get a response. I say I will be by the following day which is a Tuesday when they are open and say I will drop off the new external hard drive for him to transfer the old information onto the new. He responds with some sort of limited hours the following day. I respond with OK. I reach back out again on March 14 about dropping off the external hard drive. He responds with drop it off at the corner at the main office or front end of the building. So I attempt to do so. I show up and they are having a meeting. I tap on the glass with no response whatsoever, they just sit there and stare at me. So I go back to my car and text Eric about the situation and he says to go back to the corner office to tap on the window again.. So I do so and awkwardly a woman comes up and she's all pissed off at me and she takes my external hard drive that I was trying to drop off to Eric during hours of operation when they are open. She gives me this look cops this attitude takes the package and walks away from me. So no response from Eric whatsoever other than wow that's weird. So...no response from Eric whether he received my external hard drive or not. So I reached out five days later and ask about an update at this point he's had my external hard drives for roughly 2 months and I've gotten zero information about pricing timeframe or anything. So on March 19, I ask him about money and he responds that he will give me an estimate. That was all. He put forth an idea of doing some work and so I thumbs up it being that it was all text messages. Eight days later I reach out to Eric about whether or not he received my external hard drive since it was such an awkward situation. On March 20 was his first response of money when he mentioned I will give you an estimate. This after he had the item for two months. On April 3 I ask about an update again. "I will update shortly" again no estimate given. On April 18th I asked for an update again and get no response. On April 19 I say I want my items back. At that point we have not had any estimate of any kind of money, and there is still no timeframe given in regards to repair. On April 20 is when Eric reached out and said he apologized and updated me and started giving me all the excuses that I didn't really care to hear at that point. At this point he had had my item for three months with again, no mention of any kind of money other than he was actively getting together the invoice ready to give me my items back after I had complained and wanted them back. He gave me the option of repair of those items which was the original reason why I brought them in. And that's when he mentioned the exorbitant amount of money in regards to the other item. of course at that point, that's when I opted out of repair. So finally on April 20 is when I finally got the dollar amount. After asking for quite some time trying to figure out what was going on and what was actually happening. So I shell out $195 for a hard drive repair onto a new hard drive after three months of pretty much zero communication other than really pathetic apologies. I finally got my item back on April 22. So after three months and two days roughly I got my item back. I shelled out $195. I got no estimate at all the entire time until the very end and it was nothing but unprofessionalism. It was nothing but lying. It was nothing but poor service. I'm not sure why you chose to escalate this, I have countless texts from confusingly three different phone numbers... emails whatever... I guess this is part of I'm a IT genius here's my countless contacts that I may or may not respond to... "I'll email this person or that person or whatever to find out why I didn't get your response." It's all just BS... all of it. That stupid thing on your chest that's supposed to help with whatever BS you said... just call me!!!! Reach out to me. Not some emailed through some weird app BS. I really hated it all. Including your compulsive lying BS. You are terrible at everything!!! Eric is a compulsive liar. What he is stating is not true in anyway. My 2012 Mac Mini solidstate drive gave out on me finally. I went to Geeks4Mac to recover the data and put it in a new mini. Unfortunately the SSD was beyond readable, and would require a pricey cleanroom recovery route. They were friendly and responsive to talk and gave me some good knowledge. I recently used Geeks4Mac for the first time, and was extremely pleased. One of our home Macbok Pro's (from 2013 or so) showed some signs of drive failure. Through Geeks4Mac's website, I scheduled a consultation for the following day and received an e-mail confirmation of the time and place. (I also got a text message reminder before the consultation.) I went to the consultation and Erick listened carefully to the information I provided, and looks at some of the printouts I had made of some recent drive-related error message, and then performed his own detailed diagnostic of the drive. He concluded that, while 1-2 sectors of the drive may be failing, they didn't appear to contain any essential data-- and the drive as a whole didn't appear on the verge of failure. He did, however, suggest that an upgrade to a solid-state drive would help with the Mac's sluggishness, which is something that had been frustrating us-- and gave us an estimate for the parts and labo costs for doing so He did this all without charging anything! After weighing the decision over, we decided to proceed with the upgrade. I let Eric know by e-mail, he indicated that he'd let me know when the SSD came in. Once it did, I scheduled another appointment through the online scheduler for the drop off-- and he had it ready for us later that same day. Final costs were actually slightly less than the estimate to boot. We picked it up the next day, and the machine has been working great since. Almost seems like a new machine. His recommendation about the drive upgrade improving the speed was great-- and the process of interacting with him for the consultation, drop-off-and pick- up went smoothly. I highly recommend Geeks4Mac if you are having issues with a Mac. My hard drive failed, and after hopelessly Googling and YouTubing on my own trying to fix it, I bit the bullet and found Geeks4Mac, worried I had lost everything and was about to spend a fortune. For some reason with tech repair, I brace for the impact of just getting railroaded, but that did not happen in the slightest here. Erick, the owner, was quick to respond to my initial messages about my issue, and when I took it in, he was honest, transparent, and genuine the entire time. He is true professional and did great, quick work for a fair price. He was able to recover my hard drive and replaced it with a brand new one with double the memory. Having friends and relatives in other repair service industries, I think it's important to know that technicians aren't magicians, so knowing someone that can set the right expectation is super important to me. Erick helped me with updating the RAM in my Mac. There was a bit of a mix up on my end and Erick was so kind and gracious about it. If I could give him 7 or 8 stars, he deserves every one. As others have said, Erick is very competent and friendly, not to mention expert at what he does. Best of all-- his services will not bleed the money out of you. I had an external drive that had a precious photoshoot I did with a model 10 years ago that had accidentally been deleted. After the deletion, I took it to a repair/restoration company who were unable to retrieve the images. In despair, I saved the external drive hoping that it could one day be salvaged. First and foremost: Excellent service and great pricing for servicing Macs. Nice staff too! My old iMac shat the bed after innumerable years (OK, 9 years) of mistreatment and way fun graphics work. That said, none-too-surprisingly the graphics processor failed, but I didn't know that, I make logos and stuff so the tech love isn't there for me. Erick at Geeks4Mac... that guy's got the love. And he broke it to me gently: Replacement processor was gonna be more than the machine is worth. Result: Erick just ramped up my new machine with all my old graphics and programs and I'm back at it. He didn't charge at all for diagnosing my old machine's ills, just for updating my new one. The ONLY issue I had was communicating, and I see the light, now. In order to allow these guys to actually work on machines (focus on fixing them) AND keep prices low (not hire more staff to answer phones) is to do comm via e-mail only. You call an appointment setter to set appointments, or email, and the tech guys can "converse" via email. It's a lean operating system that works. I heartily recommend them! read more

A few months ago I was in the midst of finishing up edits on a cookbook when my MacBook decided that it didn't want to turn on. I took it to the Apple store where they checked my computer with one of their standard chargers, it wouldn't take a charge so they said it must have had something to do with the computer not the charger and that they'd need to send it off for a week or so. Since my manuscript was due in less than a week I swung by Geeks4Mac on my home hoping that they could fix it quicker. Well what do you know, the computer was fine - it was a new and better charger that I needed. The technician, who I'm assuming is the owner, ran a few diagnostic tests and had me on my way in less than 30 minutes. The kicker? He didn't charge me a dime! I tried to get him to let me pay but he refused. It's not often when you get such good service that you're still thinking about it 6 months later. When I called Erick on the phone and told him I had an old Mac that no longer worked, and that I needed the data from the hard drive to be captured and given back to me in a form that my far-newer PC could understand, Erick mistakenly assumed that by "old Mac" I was probably referring to a machine from around 2008 ... not a Performa 6116CD, circa 1994. But Erick was game. He knew that if he couldn't help me, no one could. He reached across the country and even inquired overseas for adapters and "shells" and whatever he needed to complete the job for me. It took him longer than expected, but he kept me posted. Half of the time I didn't understand what he was saying about the equipment he was scrounging for but it didn't matter. I knew he was on the case. I felt his commitment and goodwill and I knew he was giving it 100 percent ... AND keeping my cost down. Of course he succeeded in the end. Got all my old Mac data files onto a flash drive stick. Amazingly, my PC can read them. I have letters I wrote to my goddaughter when she was a baby in 1993. I have the lesson plans I wrote for my English classes when I taught community college in the nineties. I have all sorts of creative writings from my (relative) youth, as well as contract work projects I took on early in my freelance writing career. Erick preserved my treasures. He did it gracefully and fastidiously and he communicated to me every step of the way and he always responded to me in a friendly and informative way. The whole project ultimately cost me about $355. I suspect that Erick put in a lot more hours than he charged me for. And what a deal! Several years of my life preserved for under four hundred bucks! Thank you, Erick. Erick is just the best. First of all, he knows Apple products, and has deep historical knowledge. Second, he's a calm and kind force, especially when people like me end up in his shop in a blind panic when our computers choke. Third, he speaks to you with a ton of info, but respectfully - I felt like I was collaborating with him, not being talked to like I can't keep up in the conversation!! He diagnosed my machine, gave me good advice for next steps (I need to replace the whole shebang) and gave me some really great advice regarding OS versions on the new box that should save me some moola around not having to upgrade to subscription based versions of things. Perfect experience dealing with Geeks4Mac. My MacPro died on me at a bad time. Several people told me that it probably couldn't be fixed and I should buy something new. I didn't want to give up on it but I'm fairly new to Portland and didn't know any repair shops. Based on the couple good reviews and their website I took a chance on these guys. It totally paid off! I emailed Geeks4Mac over the weekend through Yelp, and Erick (the owner) responded almost immediately. I was having trouble with my MacBook Pro (2018), and he was the only shop I reached out to willing to take a look. My computer wasn't charging and I needed to get the data off of it because it had stopped backing up to the Cloud a few months ago (unbeknownst to me). Since then, my laptop has magically powered on and I can get the information off on my own. While I did not need Geeks4Mac's services this time, you can bet that I will be reaching out to them in the future if I encounter any issues. Their customer service is on point!!! read more
