Dave Theile from Mac a Wish was able to do what I failed to do after many tries. I inadvertantly deleted 16,000 photos (some duplicates) frok an external hard drive. I wanted to get them back as there were numerous photos I digitalized from my childhood photo albums and other photos I took over many years. I am 80 now and wanted to see them again and show them to my partner. Dave cam over to my place and picked up the hard drive and returned yesterday with all the photos on a flash drive. Since then I have been going through them and putting them in folders. Suffice to say it has been a nostalgic and moving experience and I am only about 10% done. He is not trying to sell anything, but is candid in suggesting peripheral devices when necessary. Isn't always great to get your computer fixed under budget and sooner than expected? Well in this case David did the unthinkable. Let me start at the beginning. My wife's Macbook was having trouble with its display screen. It would fade out and disappear. At first, you could fix it by rotating the screen a little here and a little there. But after a while, this stopped working. Then the screen went dark altogether. Well, we really use this laptop a lot and so we know we needed to get it fixed if possible. I was dreading the process and knew we were looking at some serious cash. I called around town, got a few estimates in the $200 plus range and the shortest turnaround time we got was 3 weeks!!! But then I checked Yelp and saw the rave reviews for David. Plus his place is only a few blocks away. What did we have to lose? I called him on a Friday at 5:15pm and he said bring it on over. He said he'd take a look, order parts, and hope to have it done within a few days. He said it would run around $125 bucks unless something unforeseen would occur. My wife rushed it over and now at 8:30pm the SAME NIGHT, she is typing on her laptop. David swapped out a cable AND inverter board from another MACBOOK he already had and even replaced some of my wife's worn out keys. Total cost: $100 bucks and it works like a charm. Needless to say we are thrilled with the service and David. To recap... half of the projected budget and 3 hours turnaround time. Been a Mac man ever since 1993 (true!) and have had only a couple "emergencies" in that time. Yesterday was a doozy.
