He told me he had a case with only one. I said I could live with it. I realize that I had the work done several years ago, but the USED case has been a pain in the ass from the start. I was stupid in that I didn't ask him for an estimate. I'd say he was here for about 2 hours. The new "box" was much smaller and harder to reach than the old tower. Within 10 months, the motherboard was gone. Also, several programs that ran well on my old computer did not work properly after he finished transferring my data. Next problem? Because he used a box discarded by someone else (he has a storeroom full of this crap), the on/off switch stopped working. I took it to 1201 (an excellent repair shop). They fixed a couple of things which I can't recall now and called to say I could save some money if I were to use the reset button to start the computer. I did. Tonight, a power surge wiped that out. I now have a computer that won't start. Back to 1201 I go after paying this total waste of time Mad Dog Computer person $700. I have two recommendations. Don't have this place rebuild or build a computer for you. And, get a Mac, which weathered the power surge with no problem. I much prefer Macs to PCs.

That didn't happen. On Friday, they attempted to boot the laptop, eventually got into BIOS, and confirmed the SSD wasn't detected--a problem I had already diagnosed and explained when I dropped it off. By Tuesday, they still hadn't properly diagnosed the issue. I called seven times on Monday, drove to the shop after getting no answer, and found it locked despite the website listing it as open. When I finally reached someone Tuesday, I was told that a "might" 24-hour turnaround didn't mean I was entitled to a timeframe, and that the repair would take as long as it takes. They couldn't even provide a rough estimate. I received no proactive updates, and it seemed like very little had been done beyond the initial attempt to boot the laptop. I understand repairs can be unpredictable, but the lack of communication was unacceptable. The SSD replacement ultimately cost around $450, including the expedited fee. As an electrical engineering student, I'm not a PC repair expert, but I had already identified the likely problem. I estimate diagnosing it, replacing the SSD, and reinstalling Windows would have taken me around four hours. I could have purchased a better drive and done the repair myself for roughly half the cost--and likely had my laptop back the same day. Instead, I paid a premium for expedited service and waited days just to get the problem I had already identified addressed. They offered a replacement SSD from their stock and gave me a price, but only provided part of the drive's description. I later found the same model online for less, and it wasn't even the drive I would have chosen for reliability. Customers should be given the full specifications of replacement parts before agreeing to pay for them. The whole point of paying extra was to save time so I could keep up with schoolwork. Instead, I fell behind while stuck using inadequate loaner computers. Had they been upfront that my laptop might sit untouched for days, I would have taken it home and fixed it myself. I can't know why they didn't tell me, but it's hard not to suspect they withheld that information because they wanted to keep my business. Ultimately, the SSD replacement fixed the original problem, but that doesn't excuse the experience. Repairs can take time, and unexpected delays happen. Leaving customers in the dark, refusing to provide even a rough estimate, and being closed during advertised hours without notice are unacceptable, especially after charging extra for expedited service. I wouldn't recommend this shop. If I'd known how this would go, I would have bought a better SSD, spent a few hours installing it myself, and saved both time and money. (Which, even if I wasn't an engineer, anyone could do with ChatGPT and a YouTube video)

I took my personal laptop in to Metro PC works after getting a recommendation from my boss…read more Chris was super nice on the phone, said his shop guy George would take care of me. I spoke with George when i dropped the machine off. Told him what i wanted. Asked him about the hardware that they use, which was in line with my research. They did the MS 10 install and data migration, which was difficult because the old drive had a corrupt sector. George was able to work some magic and retrieve the data. He also tested everything, installed some free AV software that runs in the back ground without being resource hogs. I totally recommend Metro PC Works. I am particular about who i trust my machine with, and will definitely use these guys again. They are courteous, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and priced reasonably. They also did not try to over sell me. Quick and communicative about time and process. Thanks guys!

Everything seemed promising with the situation until I got my laptop back. Apparently, some rare situation occurred while "scrubbing" the computer that wiped everything from my computer. All of my marketing material, invoices templates, financials and clients receipts. I was obviously upset by the situation, but also was also tried to be understanding knowing that *#$% does happen. The worst part was the way Christian handled his big mistake. He also said he would come over to help try and recover the lost documents. He NEVER came back to help despite reaching out to him about it on multiple occasions. Then, I had to contact him to negotiate down the price and still wound up paying $300 somehow. I am pretty sure I could have cleaned everything off in no time flat with no technical experience and could have properly had my serviced for less. I had to spend countless hours re-creating the lost documents as result. It made it even more challenging since I was stuck using the limited Open Office version during the process since Christian wiped off my Office suite from my computer. Christian promised to replace the lost Microsoft Office copy. After much time, he finally sent over a Office version via email (didn't bother trying to meet up in-person to install) and the copy turned out to be invalid. I then followed up with him on multiple occasions to try and get another copy and never heard anything in response. I am STILL with out a replacement copy of Office and am still awaiting a response on how this will be fixed. Overall, very poor customer service, charged for destroying my documents, and showed little to no remorse through his inaction's following the mistake. I do NOT recommend.
