So glad I found these guys! Stephen was very helpful! I thought my whole business document library was about to be lost. Stephen was able to walk me through getting it to a safe place over the phone. I chose Slave To The Machine because of its proximity to my home office but I didn't even need to wait for an appointment or go to their location. Thanks again for the great service and for being 'real Portland' at its best! I will be hiring STTM for my next issue which is a hardware compatibility issue. read more

I was looking for a reliable PC repair service to troubleshoot my brand-new gaming PC, and I'm so glad I found Slave To The Machine! Unlike other PC repair services that jump straight to charging for a diagnosis, Stephen actually took the time to give me troubleshooting advice--for FREE! Stephen genuinely cared about saving me money and even suggested that I contact the PC brand's customer service first before having him work on my PC. His honesty and willingness to help without asking for anything in return really stood out. If I ever need professional repairs, I know exactly where to go. Highly recommend! read more

I found myself in the middle of a computer scam on Sunday night. I called Stephen for help after hours. He answered and confirmed my fears. We then proceeded to protect my computer and he gave me great information on things I needed to do next to protect my credit cards etc. I've contacted him the next two days for assistance and he has been able to solve my issues. I'd used Stephen for several years so I knew he was the one to call. Cannot say enough good things about Slave To The Machine and Stephen! read more

Called these guys up and was prepared to make an appointment but the awesome dude on the phone answered my question without hesitation. No appointments needed. I will definitely be back (whether we like it or not our computers are not ALWAYS 100% reliable). read more

Woohoo! This place is amazing and Stephen is a rock star in my eyes. We had just purchased a new PC and transitioned from Windows 10 to Windows 11 in the process. We finally got everything hooked up only to discover our existing printer was now not working. After trying several fixes from the HP website-to no avail-I threw in the towel and decided to seek professional help. I sent an e-mail on a Monday morning and received a callback within just an hour or two-much sooner than I would have expected. Stephen immediately began asking lots of questions in an attempt to diagnose the issue, not once bringing up the financial part of the deal. He had already delved deep before I finally asked about the cost. He was completely upfront about everything and I appreciated the fact that he talked to me for several minutes, trying to diagnose the issue, without seeming concerned about getting paid. He was amazingly patient with all of my stupid questions and tried hard to make me not look like an idiot. I will definitely recommend him to any and all! I couldn't be more grateful! read more

I called on a holiday, Steven answered and help me with every question I have and gave me his honest opinion which I loved and made my decision easier. When I've worked with Slave to the Machine, they've been incredibly helpful, even when giving me solutions that meant I wouldn't end up working with them. Thank you so much. read more

The best customer service I've ever received! I had an issue with my laptop and wasn't sure exactly how to handle it, so I emailed Slave to the Machine, and nearly instantaneously they gave me detailed information regarding my issues and the best way to solve them. They answered every question I had in an extremely timely manner, and went above and beyond to do research on my machine for me. They even recommended that I not use their service due to the age of my computer, and the likelihood that it would die off in a few years, showing true honesty, and a commitment to the customer's needs rather than their own financial gain. I will certainly be returning to Slave to the Machine for any future computer issues I need assistance with, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an honest, reliable, timely, and intelligent service. read more

I would definitely recommend this business. Steve was really prompt and honest . We spoke on the phone to determine a way forward .

I had reached out to Steve to get a quote to fix my MacBook Air screen and he politely explained, in depth and with an article to illustrate his point, why he couldn't help. Everywhere else was more than happy to just take my money without fully resolving the issue. After careful consideration I took his advice and ended up getting a refurbished laptop which turned out to be the least expensive option. I then enlisted his service of data transfer. The job only took a few hours and I received my "new" computer back within a day. He even sent my old unit off to be recycled without an extra charge. read more

I enjoyed working with Stephen and felt he was very conscious of keeping my needs within a reasonable budget. I also found that Steven really enjoys his work. He guided me where to get good quality components and then walked me through the process once the parts arrived. I'm happy to recommend Slave to The Machine!!! read more

Steven, called me back within 20 min of my submittal of their form from the website. He then took time to do an initial intake on the problem. He talked me through what the possible issues where and I reviewed them and quickly located the issue which was unseated RAM. All this without having to spend money. Super professional and straight to the point. I would recommend them any time. read more

Words cannot express my gratitude for the services provided by Steven at Slave to the Machine. As a local owner of a small business, I recently ran into some technical website/email issues and frankly, didn't know what to do. Thankfully, I found Steven's company via the positive online reviews and he came through for me quickly, effectively, and we couldn't be more impressed with his level of service. He listens to your concerns and is able to describe the problem and provide a resolution in understandable terms. Additionally, he is accessible and very prompt throughout the process. In short, if you're having tech trouble I recommend calling him before you spend unnecessary time and energy with something he can likely complete without hassle. Thanks again! read more

I just had the best experience chatting with the owner Steven. My laptop was making click noises I had never heard before so I sent Slave To The Machine a message asking for help. Steven replied in minutes and he was able to get an audio file from me and determine it was an easy fix I could do in my settings. He was so fast at replying to my messages and so knowledgeable. Every step of the way he helped ease me into feeling like my laptop was in good hands even though he wasn't with me in person. Incredible customer service I've never been so pleased! read more

Fast, efficient, and honest service! Told me what to expect, realistically. Definitely recommend him, and will go back if I need anything in the future. read more

We were having issues with our Comcast modem and weak network in our new house and needed advice on using a router to get a stronger wi-fi signa. Steve responded within minutes of my request and scheduled a phone call for later the same day. It wasn't an emergency, but we appreciated his quick reply. The phone call was great--he was clear and helpful and not at all condescending and stepped us through what we needed to do. I followed his advice, and the problem is (mostly) resolved. Best of all, he didn't charge for his time, though we offered to pay. We will need his help to get a printer to cooperate with the network, but that's another story (mainly about our techno illiteracy). So glad to have found such a good provider for our computer/internet/network needs--highly recommend. read more

Steven was great. He promptly answered my message and was able to help me diagnose my computer issues over the phone. He spoke with me over the phone for half an hour free of charge. Even though my computer was ultimately deemed dead, my interaction with Steven was really pleasant and helpful during a really stressful time. read more

Just completed a new over haul of my webpage with Steve. I found him through word of mouth. He is professional, personable, easy to work with and a real joy. He took care of everything quickly, efficiently and I could not be more grateful. The unexpected retirement of my previous webmaster caused a quick redesign and change of web hosting. Steve did it all with in a few days. He made it stress free and took a weight off my mind. I will refer him again and again and again. Thanks Steve read more

When my 5-year-old HP Slimline desktop computer suddenly died, I was frantic to find a computer repair technician. Naturally, this happened on a Saturday during the pandemic, so most places were closed and had long wait lists. Steven came to my rescue. Having never met me before, he spent 15 minutes of his time determining it was not worth the expense for me to repair my computer, advising me about suitable and affordable replacement models, and explaining how I could extract my hard drive to place it into an external enclosure for data import to the new computer. He didn't sugarcoat the situation and just told me flat out what would work best for me. Wow. He even followed up with me a couple days later and never charged me a cent for his time. Given the other reviews I've seen and my conversation with Steven, he obviously knows quite a lot about computers, and he put customer service and overall kindness before profit. I definitely recommend Steven and Slave to the Machine for anyone that needs computer service. While I hope my new computer won't have any problems anytime soon, I will definitely be calling him if it does. read more

So great, helpful, informative, friendly. We really appreciated their help and highly recommend this computer repair service.

I have used Stevens services twice, and I have been very happy both times. My mini laptop crashed around the holidays. When I took it to Office Depot, they told me that it couldn't be repaired. I found Stevens ad on Craigslist, and thought it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion before chucking it. It was fixed within an hour, and it only set me back $40. If you're looking for someone competent, honest, and is often available the same day, get in touch with Slave to the Machine. He also explains exactly what went wrong, how to prevent it from happening again, and what he did to fix it. read more

Im a local web designer, and when my computer crashed I needed it fixed ASAP. i've been around the block and im pretty tech savy...I was un-able to get my computer running. For me time is money, and I was loosing money if I didn't have my computer. I went to a few places, shopped around everyone quoted me at least a few hundred. Hopped on craigslist found his ad, called him up...set up an appointment the next day. Came over within a couple hours bada bing bada boom things were up and running. Beyond that he even helped fix my Graphics Card properly and threw in a free anti-virus. HIGHLY recommend this man, and his business. We have been using Steve at Slave to the Machine for several years now, and I cant speak highly enough about him. We own two businesses and have numerous laptops and desktops which get bogged down fast. When you have several people using the same machine, that tends to happen when everyone goes download crazy. Our computers are still running great thanks to Steve. Not only does he come to you so you dont have to unplug everything and drive it all across town, but he is very affordable and very knowledgeable. Just this week he helped me purchase a new hard drive for my older mac book and after a failed self install, he was over the same day and got me up and running in no time. He helped me breath new life into my old mac and now its running like a brand new laptop. He also set everything back to factory on an overloaded desktop machine and thats running like new as well. If you have an old and tired desktop or laptop, dont send it out to pasture, just call Steve and he will revitalize your computer and get you up and running on a like-new machine. read more

Steven did the impossible -- he helped me stop gaming on an age-old, small-screened, memory-zapped laptop by guiding me through the process of building an amazing, inexpensive desktop gaming rig. By guiding me through the parts list; helping me choose the case, memory, motherboard and graphics card that was right for me; and walking me through the build process, not only did Steven teach me a lot, he also put together a top-notch gaming computer for far less than an off-the-shelf price. Whether you just want things fixed or you want to learn how to fix and build them yourself, Slave to the Machine is a great choice! read more

My laptop popped and wouldn't charge. Fearing the worse, I yelped and saw they were open on Sunday. Sent question...Got a message back with invite to call within minutes. Ten minutes later, I received an efficient and friendly diagnosis (I expected bad news), loads of recommendations on how to recover my data, and a list of recommended laptops for my needs. I hung up feeling grateful for the guidance and impressed with the level of knowledge and support. All for free. They've got our business in the future. Thank you! read more

Can't tell you how much I appreciated Steven and his customer service, or should I say, "not even" customer service. Since Sunday I have spent way too many hours thinking I could fix my laptop after it just decided that Wifi wasn't something it wanted to do anymore. After hardwiring to router, I was all over the internet finding "this should fix it" websites and applying the fixes. Nothing worked. Finally today, I called Slave to the Machine to set up a repair call. Steven answered, spent 16 minutes on the phone with me trying to diagnose the issue and then gave me detailed instructions on how I might be able to fix it. He was spot on and in a bit I had Wifi back again. What more can you ask for; knowledgeable, responsive, kind, and willing to help out even if it means they may not make a nickel off the time spent. I would recommend them to anyone. Going to be my go to office and home support. read more

Steven spent a good amount of time troubleshooting via phone and came over within the hour when he realized it was a situation that needed hands-on work. All my problems were solved at an extremely reasonable price, and the advice he gave was invaluable in determining the next steps I need to take before my trusty 2011 model gives up the ghost for good. read more

Steve and his team are fantastic. Up-to-date with the latest tech, prompt, reliable, friendly and reasonably priced. The company has helped me with problems large and small, and ALWAYS has time for me -- not because they're not busy, but because their customer service is a top priority. Having Steve available to work remotely on my computers is a huge advantage too, although it's always nice to have him stop in. I appreciate his manner of explanation, too: he makes it easy to understand what's wrong and how it needs to be fixed -- always with an eye on budget. When you need a new tech team for your personal or business needs, give Slave to the Machine a call. You'll be very glad you did. read more

I was fortunate enough to learn of Steve at Slave to the Machine through a friend who has used this service for years. I used him in the past to troubleshoot difficult problems. I lived in California at the time and he worked with me remotely to resolve the puzzle. Most recently I called on him to discuss my next machine. Steve was fast, thorough in his research, and very helpful. He knows his business, which I don't say often about many businesses these days. Five stars from me. read more

their service was very helpful and informative. I was trying to decide whether to not buy a new laptop or to add to my old one and they helped me add memory and a new hard drive easily. they always told me how things work while they did their work. I highly recommend them. read more

Called with a minor overheating issue on my computer. They were fast to reply to Yelp message, then returned my call and gave lots of good details and guidance. I would have been happy to take my computer to them and throw money their way, but their guidance allowed me to fix it myself at minimal cost. Definitely my go-to place if I ever have future issues. The kind of business we need more of. read more

Steve responded immediately to my emergency request during the holidays when my laptop gave up the ghost in the middle of a story I was writing. He did troubleshooting over the phone and although we didn't know for sure at that point, correctly diagnosed the problem. He was able to come in the next day and run comprehensive diagnostics and when it turned out that my hard drive was in fact failing, he retrieved and saved all of my data to my backup computer on the spot. (I'd thought I'd backed everything up to DropBox three days prior, but the backup failed and I would have lost several days of writing and revisions. Doublecheck your backups, kids!) Steve also made several recommendations about protecting and optimizing my new computer, encrypting my stuff and making redundant backups, all of which I was able to do on my own. I am so grateful for the very prompt response, the efficient troubleshooting and workarounds, and the extra advice. I highly recommend this company. read more

Not even open and I just got more support than the last three businesses I called, definitely coming back for help when they open.

So i'm normally guy who tries to fix all my computer problems on my own, but this time I was frustratingly stumped. So after looking online a bit, I called Slave to The Machine and Steven was able to answer all my questions and guide me through the troubleshooting process. In the end I actually was able to solve my issue without even taking my computer in and Steven insisted that it be free of charge. I can't recommend these guys enough! read more

ONCE AGAIN, Steven is amazing and trying to help me save money by telling me something I can do FIRST before paying anyone money. I'm really getting sick of external HDs, but Steven is helping me not give up on them completely. Haven't tried it yet, but any company that is trying to help me save money on a (hopefully) small fix is beyond a good review in my book. NOT TO MENTION how fast the reply is. Amazing business, amazing guy. read more

I can't express how grateful I am for this service! I went out of town for a couple days and returned to find my Lenovo laptop in a constant loop of doom, unable to load windows. In my mind I was about to replace a computer that's less than 2 years old. I asked Yelp for help and I'm glad I did. I was provided troubleshooting over the phone, my panic subsided, and they helped to get my computer up and running again. The icing on the cake is that this cake at the low low price of $0!!! If I could give 10 stars I would. This is my first ever Yelp review, it's the bare minimum I can do in exchange for the awesome service! If you need help with your computer, this is the only number you need to call. If I have any issues in the future I certainly will be. Thank You for your help! read more

Best computer support I have ever had. Very responsive and incredibly helpful. It seems like Steven really wants to help.
