Love love love this tiny little place. My go-to is one of the many 'don' dishes, they're so tasty and have a little bit of everything so there are tons of flavors and textures in one dish! I do wish they had a plain traditional 'don' with just fish over rice, but the twist they put is still very tasty. Being born and raised in Japan I can be critical of sushi joints, but this one is definitely worth a visit for some unique sushi eats! I didn't give them 5 stars because the service leaves something to be desired. I usually have to awkwardly stand squished at the front for 5-10 minutes next to a seated couple trying to enjoy their meal before a waiter even acknowledges my existence, which isn't usually a big deal, but this place is literally crazy small. read more

I was pretty hesitant on trying this place since I heard it was on the pricier side and smaller portions...but I caved. I am so mad that I did not try this place earlier! To start off, the restaurant itself is small with maybe 10 tables max. I would not recommend going here with a big group (try Sushi King instead!). The waiter was very attentive and helpful. He always kept our water glasses full which is a sign of good service to me! We got complimentary edamame and miso soup. Both of which were great and a nice start off to the meal. For appetizer we ordered the Fighting Fish Tower. Which was ironically one of the more expensive things on the menu. The presentation was beautiful (if you care about that stuff) but the taste blew my mind. It was very fresh and flavorful! I was surprised at how well all these relatively simple components mixed, complemented each other so well. It was a layer of avocado, sushi rice, blue fin tuna, salmon, crabmeat and some fish eggs to top it all off. We killed it. It was great. Definitely recommend. Honestly it was a decent size as well! As for our main entrees I got the dragon roll which is basically a really good/ fancy eel roll. It was delicious and pretty filling for me. I would not say it was anything special but it was fresh and really tasty. My fiance got a spicy poke don bowl. Pro tip: you can get half salmon and half tuna for the same price! Definitely recommend doing that if you are unsure of what you want. That was also fantastic. Again super fresh (do you sense a theme here?) and flavorful. They had a lot of various toppings and fixings in the bowl such as pickled radishes, avocado, edamame and much more. Overall, it is safe to say that I was very pleased. They don't really have much for vegetarians but I saw that they had a veggie sushi donut and that just sounds cool, so I've gotta give it a try, right?! And I'm sad to say it was just meh.... It was really just a pile of rice with a few veggies placed on top. It looked super pretty but was nothing special. And I definitely wouldn't consider it a donut. The one thing that saved this place was the service and their willingness to adjust their offerings to make them veg. They offered complimentary edamame and miso to start which was pretty tasty and we tried a special made veggie version on the Spicy Samurai roll. Not the best veg sushi I've ever had but still yummy. I came back here (with a different friend) and it was, as expected, wonderful! Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and had a great handle on the tables. She was literally taking on the whole floor, but I never once needed to ask for a refilled glass or anything. We can during lunch this time and I had the spicy salmon poke bowl, which is so good. Shit was on point, point blank. Soon after, the sushi rolls arrived. Tiger Tempura & The Spicy Samurai is what we chose to go with. Nailed it with both. Though I wanted to eat them both by myself, I had to share with my girlfriend unfortunately. Whoever says sharing is caring, probably has a participation trophy just for joining a rec team. Overall the meal was a 10/10. Menu is an appropriate size for the place itself. Definitely am coming back to grub down on the other foods they have. My friend & I were both blown away by how beautiful it looked. I'd say "it was almost to pretty to eat," but I was too hungry to think that. The fish was all fresh & high quality. Pretty good but doesn't seem particularly authentic. That being said, the sushi was really creative and aesthetic. I didn't enjoy the poke flight as much, it pretty much just tasted like sesame oil and siracha. Walking in, it is a pretty laid back place. I came in having a sushiritto before, so I wanted to try something new. Not sure what a poke bowl was I found it to be a delightful surprise. Here is where I am torn between giving a 3 or 4, the presentation of the dish was nice and the restaurant was very simple. Trying the food it was just spicy, there was no real flavor. I know that the rice may have a mild salty flavor and side veggies should have some flavor, but the sauce they doused the tuna in was a bit overwhelming, that is why I dropped them to a 3. If the sauce was a bit more balance and the other flavors could come out, I think the dish would be much better. Over all, I thought the place was good for a first time visit and I will probably be back to see how the other bowls pan out. read more

Rain had just began to fall as my girlfriend and I were seated next to the window to admire the wonderful setting. It was our first time going out in some time and we had picked this restaurant out of a hat. The waitress came back and gave us the menu to which we perused with great intensity. Each item and description proceeded to intensify the hunger we felt. At the end of our long, thoughtful deliberation we decided upon three items. A sushi roll, a sushi burrito, and a poke bowl. We were surprised with complimentary miso soup and edamame to which we feverishly devoured. Then the food came. My first bite sent my body into shock, I tasted the ocean from where the fresh fish had been caught. I felt the waves that shaped that fish into a grown beautiful animal. My spirit exited my body as I continued to enjoy each and every single bite. Then the second dish. Equally as beautiful and tasteful. Yet the experience was absolutely unique. I've had a lot of sushi burritos prior to this one, but this one had a story of flavor. It spoke of adventure and magic. I could not deny the beauty in the food prepared. Finally we moved to the poke bowl. It looked majestic, colorful, and extremely appetizing. I felt as if the bowl put the rainbow to shame and it sure did taste amazing. I reflected upon my time out in the ocean deep sea fishing. I thought about the experience I had wrangling in big fish and the journey I had taken to get there. The food served sent me into ecstasy. Every time I eat here: 1) I get excited because there isn't much poke around Richmond. 2) Order the poke bowl even though the flavors are a bit odd together and I've had better. 3) Leave a little disappointed with the quality of food for what I paid for in the end. The place itself is pretty small, so be prepared to wait a little if you want to dine-in during prime meal times. Service is above average, they are always friendly and let us order more edamame (they serve them 3 at a time here) multiple times. We've also tried their sushi donuts and the fish:rice ratio is pretty decent. The tuna tartar appetizer is also tasty but pricey. Overall, it satisfies my poke bowl craving, but not by much.
