This is a local favorite of friends I was visiting, and I can see why! First of all, you're at a splendid spot right on Venice Beach; we sat at a table outside where I was amused to see space heaters distributed among the tables--y'know, in case the 70 degrees and sun = cold in your book. (Lol; I live in Maine.) Fig Tree is that perfect SoCal beach vibe: chill and relaxxxxxxxed, a range of quirky and healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Among 3 of us we shared a cauliflower soup, a grain bowl, rosemary fries, and the kale tahini crunch salad: all good, if not spectacular (the salad in particular was yummy, but overdressed thus not the crunch I'd been hoping for). But never mind. Like I said it's a vibbbbbbbe and that we did out on the patio in the sun, with a few pleasant and laid-back servers dropping off food and drink at intervals, and someone sitting near had a lovely beach Siberian husky everyone wanted to pet, and the people-watching was fab, and . . . just go, and chill, and enjoy! read more

Fig tree is right on the beachfront in Venice, the place has a cool vibe. We had the Rockfish ceviche and salmon avocado tostada to start. The ceviche wasn't our favorite; the fish didn't taste fresh and the coconut milk sauce really collided with the flavor of the lime and fish. Our next course was a spicy rigatoni bolognese that was undercooked and lacked flavor. For having such a premier spot right next to the ocean it was a bummer the food wasn't enjoyable. Our cocktail was a charred pineapple infused mezcal, Montenegro, and angostura cocktail. None of those flavor profiles came through, it tasted very bland and unbalanced as well. Came here with a large group for a birthday brunch and they were very accommodating, allowing us to bring a cake and storing it for us. Because we have a group larger than 12, we had to get their prix fixe brunch and it was pretty decent! Everything was pretty standard in terms of American brunch but the drinks were really fresh and refreshing. We were sat inside but there were large doors that opened into the patio and the ocean breeze was really nice - I'd recommend this place for a cute and casual celebratory brunch! read more

As we were walking on the Venice boardwalk and wanted to stop somewhere for brunch, we stumbled across Fig Tree. I've seen it on Yelp countless times, but had never gone. And I am happy we did. We didn't have reservations and it was a busy sunny Sunday. But the wait was only about 20 min for the two of us. The place is gorgeous - picture Tulum vibes. Our server was really great too. Both attentive and made excellent recommendations when we asked. We had an oat milk cappuccino, an oat milk chai latte, the multigrain pancakes with plantain (def get this!) and the chicken avocado melt with fries. Everything hit the spot! Great experience overall! I booked a private room for a work team happy hour for about 20 people and everyone loved the location. The room opened up to the boardwalk and it was a lovely beach day. The food presentation was beautiful and everything was delicious, especially the margaritas. I wanted to try Fig Tree Venice since it was in a convenient location in the Venice/Santa Monica area. Not gonna lie, I got a little catfished seeing the pictures of this place online and then going in person. This restaurant is not as cute as I thought it would be. Outdoor seating can be a bit cramped depending on where you sit. Customer service left a lot to be desired. I ordered the Plantain and Coconut Pancakes ($19) which is pretty steep for a plate of pancakes with plantains. There was a lot of textures with each bite in the multi-grain pancakes which I wouldn't always say is a good thing. The plantains were cooked well, but it's one of those items where the more you eat it in one sitting, the more you get sick of it and want something to change it up with. Personally I would recommend this plate only if you are sharing with the table. What I also didn't like is how terrible their bathrooms are. I went in during breakfast hours and the bathrooms look like they haven't been cleaned in weeks. It was a mess and it was very dirty and dark. Personally I wouldn't return and everything feels very slow and not sanitary. Becareful of weird added fees on your bill. They make you the customer pay for fees at the end they do not tell you upfront such a service fee and for example on bill I had to pay $6 dollars added fee for healthcare for their employees which sucks for the waiters because it probably affects their tips. So you're already pricey food ends up being adding a made up service fee, healthcare fee and tip 20% if that's what you normally tip. Ridiculous. Not going back. read more

Venice beach is nicer now, during covid this area was kitchens very pleasant but now it feels safer and cleaner. They have both indoor and outdoor sitting. The service here is very strange.. it will go from cordial and polite to not having anyone check on us for 30 minutes, and when they do, it's snippy and rude. When we pointed out missing items from our order, it was met with annoyance and a "uh ok... i don't know..." food was not bad, but the selling point here is definitely the ocean front location. A surprise find. We were trying to catch the sunset from this vicinity, but it got so cold that we decided to seek shelter. Two out of the 4 of us also happened to be famished. We both hadn't eaten anything all day and it was nearly 4. We had no resy but we lucked out since two tables were open - we took the one outside for the view. We ordered like the savages that we are. The table shared two tostadas, the clams with chorizo, squash, fries and the salad. We finished with the apple tart and churro. The grilled yam tostada was my favorite. It was so good I almost got another one. We had actually considered sharing one at the end of our meal. The white dipping sauce that came with the fries was a pleasant surprise. What we did have an issue was with the service. We got forgotten at the end. The person who was waiting on us went on his break so someone else took over, but we weren't advised so it all got confusing. Someone else took our dessert order then that person disappeared when all we wanted to do was lay the bill. I'm not sure how long we ended up waiting, but it felt like torture because of how cold it was. Our original server finally reappeared in time for us to yeet outta there. This place is very easily accessible from the Venice boardwalk and has plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Service was friendly but slow even for a quiet Wednesday afternoon. It's a "seat yourself" establishment which doesn't really work well for them because sat there for awhile (there were only 3 other tables at the time) and they must've past us multiple times before they acknowledged or looked our way and we were dead center in the outside patio. Food was just about the same. Nothing stood out and everything was just very mediocre. Burgers are pretty hard to mess up and this one was just not good. Steak was chewy and salty. Just overall very mid-experience. Convenient if you're in the area but wouldn't go out of my way for it! read more

The food - well - a little hit and miss with my visits here and the the service has always been a bit slow, with not enough servers and not enough attention to things like refilling your water. Fig Tree is that brunch place everyone wants to go to. Combine that with Venice Beach and now you got an impossibly busy place with great food. So for starters, good luck finding parking. You'll probably end up at one of the paid lots, but if you're lucky, maybe you'll find street parking. Anyway, brunch. Yeah, they got options. I found their breakfast plate pretty unique. Bacon, eggs, avocado, beans, plantains, toast and jam all makes for a hearty breakfast. Top it off with a matchatta and you got yourself a full and complete breakfast. If location was more convenient I'd probably come back here more often but given it's Venice Beach, there's no huge rush to come eat here regularly. read more

My friend kept telling me she heard great things about this place and we went there today to try it. From the very beginning our experience was not good. The hostess was rude, mean and was lacking basic customer service skills. She said they were packed and we need to wait for 20 minutes to get seated but then she got four other pairs in when they came way later than us. We ended up waiting much longer than 20 minutes. When I asked her why are they given a priority, she said it's because the tables are for two people and it's three of us. However, she could have arranged to combine two tables to fit us, as there were other groups of three using two tables. It wasn't just the wait that was unpleasant but the fact that her attitude was really bad. Also, it was very hot and she insisted we wait outside under the sun when she could have allowed us to wait inside. After we finally got in, the waiter was nice and attentive to us. However, he served another table who got there later than us before serving us. Most importantly, the food was mediocre, my sandwich bread was burnt and the chicken was not tasty at all. It's possible other menu options are better but I only tried one of the options and it wasn't good. The only thing I liked was the view of the ocean, which I could have without waiting for over 30 minutes and paying $25 for a basic small chicken sandwich. I definitely don't recommend going there unless you have plenty of time and desire to bake under the sun for over 30 minutes. read more
