What a great stop. We had a long layover at LAX. Easy uber ride over. Wonderful service, dreamy ambiance and amazing food.

A surprise find. We were trying to catch the sunset from this vicinity, but it got so cold that we decided to seek shelter. Two out of the 4 of us also happened to be famished. We both hadn't eaten anything all day and it was nearly 4. We had no resy but we lucked out since two tables were open - we took the one outside for the view. We ordered like the savages that we are. The table shared two tostadas, the clams with chorizo, squash, fries and the salad. We finished with the apple tart and churro. The grilled yam tostada was my favorite. It was so good I almost got another one. We had actually considered sharing one at the end of our meal. The white dipping sauce that came with the fries was a pleasant surprise. What we did have an issue was with the service. We got forgotten at the end. The person who was waiting on us went on his break so someone else took over, but we weren't advised so it all got confusing. Someone else took our dessert order then that person disappeared when all we wanted to do was lay the bill. Made a Resy reservation and showed up 5 minutes late with no issue! They had a table set up for us and gave us the option of shade or no shade. We got a Matcha and Hibiscus water. The hibiscus water was just water with steeped hibiscus, so nothing special (however this is exactly what I asked for). The matcha was way too sweet for my girlfriend's taste. We got the plantain pancakes and shrimp roll. The portion was perfect for the two of us. The food was really good and plated beautifully. I'd come back here. This place is very easily accessible from the Venice boardwalk and has plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Service was friendly but slow even for a quiet Wednesday afternoon. It's a "seat yourself" establishment which doesn't really work well for them because sat there for awhile (there were only 3 other tables at the time) and they must've past us multiple times before they acknowledged or looked our way and we were dead center in the outside patio. Food was just about the same. Nothing stood out and everything was just very mediocre. Burgers are pretty hard to mess up and this one was just not good. Steak was chewy and salty. Just overall very mid-experience. Convenient if you're in the area but wouldn't go out of my way for it! read more

It was a Sunday so we were expecting a 4 star experience the hostess sat two parties ahead of us we all got there the same time because she knew them from highschool in fact that's what she stated. The server didn't introduce himself we waited at least 15 min to be served he offered us sparkling water but did not say it would be charged. They brought out the tiniest tostada for 9 which is aright I guess. At the end of our meal the server caught a self righteous attitude stating we have to pay for the water. I stayed no and he said well I didn't have to tell you the price of the toastada you should know sparkling water costs. So rude so unprofessional so on a high horse. Manager came same attitude mean ungrateful for our business and snappy. Finally we sat again waiting 20 for our check but some decent human being in that whole place another manager comped our meal. After waiting in the first line for 30 minutes we were told to wait in a second line, after waiting another 30 minutes a lady in front of us collapsed on the sidewalk - no staff to be seen. Patrons who had just walked up were shown to seats before those in line. The hostesses did not communicate to each other about the second line.The service was very slow. The food was just not tasty. It is like they are trying too hard. One of our party was served the wrong dish, one had undercooked chorizo in their burrito. The person we pointed it out to started to argue with us before clearing the dish. It was difficult to cut the crust of the bread my avocado toast came on and the rest of the bread was chewy. The prefix menu is fairly priced for lunch at $35. It comes with an appetizer, main and dessert. I chose the ceviche, rockfish sandwich with fries and lemon olive oil torte. The fish here tastes very fresh. I enjoyed the components of the ceviche but I thought it was very under seasoned. Nothing a little salt and lime can't fix though. The sandwich had a great bite to it but again under seasoned. Fries are tasty and crispy. I have no complaints about the dessert! The cake tasted slightly caramelized and was served with cream and blackberries. This restaurants sits along the Venice boardwalk so you'll see a lot of people walking by while you eat. It was very loud and felt chaotic. I was very disappointed in the service. We were seated outside in the sun but did not get any water refills. We waited for over 20 minutes to receive our appetizer and our server did not check on us at all throughout our meal. After a hour, we noticed our server left without saying a word and we had to get another server's attention. She charged us for an additional side when we only ordered one prefix. When we explained this to the new server, he said she most definitely asked us if we wanted fries because "she is one of their best". I found this very unprofessional. Sadly, I won't be returning to Fig Tree. TLDR: food is good but restaurant may be understaffed. Service isn't the best. I don't recommend coming here if you're in a rush! read more

We visited Fig Tree on Venice Beach after visiting the Hollywood sign and touring LA with our kids. It was a super quaint but cute indoor/outdoor restaurant on the beachfront. Our host and server were both kind and accommodating. I had a side of sunny side up eggs, bacon and avocado. My kids had the same along with fruit and churros. The chocolate dipping sauce that accompanied the churros were nostalgic. It tasted very similar to Haitian hot chocolate which is made with cinnamon, star anise and nutmeg. Delicious and a breath of fresh air compared to simple chocolate syrup. My daughter had the plantain pancake -- WOW! Every one at the table stole several bites because it was delicious. The texture was similar to cornmeal pancakes though not as gritty. We loved it. I would definitely visit again! read more

I went to thick tree Venice on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 PM. The service was great and we were seated immediately. Every one was super nice and gave us plenty of time to look over our menus. we ordered quite a few things on the menu. But our favorite definitely had to be the herb pasta and the green beans with figs. The food is like art. It is smaller to medium size portions but the flavors are outstanding. When you are seated, you can ask to sit inside or outside and the ambience is very cute yet modern. It feels like you are transported to a different city. This is actually my second time going and I really enjoy it here, I would recommend it. I usually bring friends from out of town and they all love this place. Parking is not the best but if you are lucky, you can find free parking on the streets. If you park on rose near the creepy clown cvs, there is a public lot that was pretty cheap. We paid $20 for the whole day but if you go to the parking lot directly behind fig, it's around $45. read more

Fig Tree is that brunch place everyone wants to go to. Combine that with Venice Beach and now you got an impossibly busy place with great food. So for starters, good luck finding parking. You'll probably end up at one of the paid lots, but if you're lucky, maybe you'll find street parking. Anyway, brunch. Yeah, they got options. I found their breakfast plate pretty unique. Bacon, eggs, avocado, beans, plantains, toast and jam all makes for a hearty breakfast. Top it off with a matchatta and you got yourself a full and complete breakfast. This is quite the deal if you're going for the steak and eggs, which I recommend. Service can be a little slow early in the day, but your patience pays off. In some ways it's hard to write a review about this restaurant because, first of all, the food here is good. It is well prepared with high quality ingredients and it has a very nice presentation. And, if that was the only part of this restaurant I was reviewing the star count would be much higher. There's another very essential element of any review, however. That component is the atmosphere. The overall atmosphere of this restaurant, in and of itself, is fine. They have a nice interior space. They have a nice patio, and they have a nice front patio dining area. All good. The problem arises with the overall essence of Venice. For example, the last time I had breakfast here there was a guy busking in front of the restaurant. He had his guitar and his amplifier and he was singing the most horrible versions of songs that you can imagine. He sang everything from Johnny Cash, to Billy Idol, onto The Doors, and many others. I'm sure Ray Manzarek would be turning over in his grave if he heard this guy's version of Riders on the Storm. I mean it was so loud and so horrible, it completely ruined the entire breakfast experience. I certainly understand that the restaurant can't control what takes place out on The Boardwalk but... And, I get it, this is Venice, California, so this type of behavior is more or less expected. This being said, it has the potential to completely ruin the dining experience. Which is what it did for me the last time I was there. So, this is just something to keep in mind if you come to this restaurant. The food is good, the staff are all friendly, but the external atmosphere, and what takes place outside the control of this restaurant, may ruined your eating experience. read more

The singer and guitarist on the boardwalk is performing the entire time you're trying to eat and hold a conversation. And the acoustics makes the music sound even louder at the tables. Reservations recommended, but not necessary, if you get here early enough, no waiting. Otherwise, there's a wait. Aside from the boardwalk performers, the atmosphere is appealing, with the exception of the overused, torn paper menus. The restaurant has an A grade. I ordered a coffee and chilaquiles. Had to request refills and my food was nearly delivered to the next table. Chilaquiles tasted good. There were crunchy tortilla chips in the mix. There's an automatic 18% tip added to the bill, so I was glad I requested coffee refills. read more

While walking in Venice Beach, my sister and I wanted an Espresso Martini. We decided to try Fig Tree. Let's start with how beautiful these espressos were. The presentation alone has set a new standard. The taste was very bold and will easily give you that mid-day boost! We only decided to have one drink, nonetheless, next time we're in town we will return for food as well. Side note: there's an automatic Healthcare charge added to the bill. Great experience overall! I booked a private room for a work team happy hour for about 20 people and everyone loved the location. The room opened up to the boardwalk and it was a lovely beach day. The food presentation was beautiful and everything was delicious, especially the margaritas.
