Mocha and Bread Pudding
Jennifer G.

Love Urth Cafe. It's been a while since I've been. The mocha and bread pudding are still amazing. If you can get a seat, I recommend dining in, as the people watching is always amazing. This visit including watching a guy's day being totally made by a getting approached and asked out by a woman. Took him a few minutes to realize what was happening, but I'm pretty sure that he was happy for getting a cup of coffee that day. Even if you don't have a LA moment, their drinks and pastries will make your day.

Went to Urth Caffé and had such a smooth experience--no line (which is rare), and the crowd was super nice. The vibe felt calm but still lively, which made it a really enjoyable stop. I ordered the grilled chicken pesto sandwich with an almond honey vanilla latte, and both were so good. The sandwich was fresh, flavorful, and filling, and the latte had the perfect balance of nutty and sweet without being overpowering. The menu is fun, the food hits, and the prices are actually decent for Santa Monica. Definitely a spot I'd come back to.

I've visited a few different Urth Caffé locations on separate occasions, and overall the experiences have been consistent. The food presentation is always beautiful and the ingredients taste fresh. I've tried the grilled sandwich with a side salad perfectly toasted bread, melted cheese, and jalapeños for a little kick. The mixed greens were crisp and lightly dressed. On another visit, I had the smoked salmon plate with tomatoes, red onions, capers, cream cheese, and a bagel. The salmon was fresh and the portion size was generous. I've also had scrambled eggs and other brunch items simple but well prepared. That said, this place is expensive. Considering the locations and the type of food they offer, it makes sense but it's definitely not a budget-friendly spot. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're on a tight budget or in a time crunch. It gets busy, especially during brunch hours, and you should expect to spend some time there. Overall, it's a lively café with fresh food and consistent quality, just be prepared for higher prices and a wait during peak hours. The staff at this location are very friendly.

Heirloom Tomato & Burrata Salad (Seasonal)

This was my first time visiting an Urth Caffé, there isn't one in the IE, and I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the burrata salad, which I'd never had before, but it sounded too good to pass up, and it did not disappoint. The balsamic vinaigrette was so flavorful that it balanced out any bitterness from the arugula, and the burrata itself was creamy and delicious. Just an overall really good salad. My husband finished his huevos rancheros burrito, and my cousin finished her Caprese sandwich, which says a lot, everything was really, really good. The ambience is very cool. There's some outdoor seating, and on a beautiful day it's perfect to sit on the patio. You order at the front and they bring the food out to you, so it's more of a cafe-style setup rather than a traditional sit-down restaurant, but it works really well here. Great food, great vibe, and a solid first experience. Five stars!

Hang with the locals and enjoy a rooibois rumi latte or Spanish latte and homemade vegan oatmeal cookie or brownie with huge chunks of walnuts. Whenever we fly into LAX we make sure to make Urth one of our first stops.

Amazing spot!! The most incredible latte I've had in my life, alongside the most delicious plant-based breakfast burrito. The atmosphere was incredible with a gorgeous patio for seating. Orders placed upon arrival.

Just arrived at Urth Caffé and I'm already impressed. The vibe is amazing and the staff is so welcoming from the moment you walk in. I ordered the Oreo cheesecake and a vanilla classic matcha latte... both were so good. Definitely a must-try if you're coming here. Great energy, great service, and even better treats. I'll definitely be back

This is my very pale butt end of the tomato with the label. Unbelievable!!!

I ordered what used to be my favorite- turkey burger. The quality of food here has gone way down. Nobody is watching the quality control. Owners clearly are tired and have made their money. The "tomato" in my burger was the butt end that they usually throw way with label sticker still on it!! It has a small piece of lettuce that even a rabbit would starve on. Desserts are still epic but not worth the visit here for me for a while. See photos of my burger and the tomato!!!! This was a to go order, so I wasn't going to drive back to the store - this should never have happened if employees were trained well and understood protocol.

The best coffee in Los Angeles and great food and dessert options. If you are looking in Santa Monica and looking for a healthy or hearty meal, urth is a solid choice. I've been going since they opened and know several of the staff by name. They always great everyone with a smile and even though it's fast casual (you order at the counter, then they bring everything to you) they aim to please. My favorites include waffle and oatmeal for breakfast. For lunch, I love all their soups, the farmer's salad served with the gorgeous nut and fruit bread, the tostada with grilled chicken, spinach tortilla quesadilla with veggies, and if I'm really hungry the pot roast sandwich served with an au jus on the side. I find their eggs either overcooked or undercooked, so I avoid them. I find their pizzas too bready. Desserts are excellent especially if you are hosting a party, get one of their cakes to go or a bunch of the single pastries. I love their flour less chocolate cake, pumpkin pie, cheese danish, and fruit tart, but you really can't go wrong with anything they offer. They have vegan options for desserts too!

Coffee was great but food was just okay, I didn't really feel any tasty flavor. They didn't have potatoes. Service was good z ambience nice

Honey Vanilla Latté Medium and Aloha Matcha (Wazuka Matcha, organic blue spirulina, creamy coconut and refreshing strawberry purée)

Updating with more photos! Absolutely love this place! The sweet potato pie was a decent size and tasted incredible. Original Review DELICIOUS!!! They use Organic Wazuka Matcha and dairy free milk. It's so smooth and silky! The latte was well made and also tasted great.

The lovely fire.

On a recent visit. I was devastated not to have time for any of their delicious baked goods, which looked as incredible as always, but did get a chance to enjoy a coffee by the fireplace. It was fairly quiet and beautiful on a Tuesday morning in October.

Omelette

I did not like it. Overpriced and overrated due to the location and ambiance. Rude/disinterested service. The good - cheesecake was great, if you like richer and heavier cake slices. I enjoyed it a lot, ate half and took the rest home, it was just as good after 48 hours in the fridge. I was impressed. The ambiance - super cute, slightly cramped, patio overlooking main street. Very reminiscent of European style al fresco dining. Super cute, nice for a date or tourists to enjoy a pastry. The average - coffee. I could take it or leave it, it wasn't anything special. I had a small drip, that was nearly $6 I believe, pretty shocking. You can get an espresso based specialty drink at a lot of coffee shops on main street for that price. The bad - first off, immediately bad counter service. Hungover/stoned/exhausted young man who couldn't give less of a fuck if he tried. I get it, no one wants to be a cashier for life, but there's a middle ground between cheerful bullshit and looking like you could fall over on the spot and die from boredom or a hangover. The food took forever to come even though the restaurant was busy, when I went to inquire, we were told it was ready and had been ready, but hadn't been brought to the table because "they couldn't find us". On their patio... with like 10 spots... we were not hidden in a corner. WTF??? Awful, awful service. The manager was even more disappointing, I did not like my huevos rancheros (I'll get more into that) and I very politely returned it (uneaten, I took 3 bites and knew I wouldn't want it). I very politely returned my food, the manager barked at me asking "What's wrong with it" and huffed and rolled her eyes as she processed my refund. Awful, disappointing service, absolutely disguisting when you consider that Urth Cafe is striving for a nicer ambiance. I have had better service than this at a Taco Bell or Popeye's fried chicken, Urth Cafe servers and manager completely fail to provide a welcoming or friendly restaurant experience. The food - plain and overpriced, completely uninteresting. The huevos rancheros resembled a shakshuka more than any huevos rancheros I'd ever tasted, it included poached eggs(?), which I ordered medium, but came well done. Probably because they had been cooking on the counter for 5 minutes while our food went undelivered... It was just salty taste anyways, you couldn't taste anything else. The omelette was fine, but uninteresting, I could have made similar at home. The cheesecake was the only standout and the only thing I can suggest. No one would be impressed by the fare here. TLDR - cute patio and ambience. Unfriendly and inattentive service. Plain & expensive food. Good pastries. Do not recommend.

I was seated outside with a view of a busy road intersection, which made for nice people watching. The menu didn't have any stand-out dishes that you couldn't find at any other brunch place and there were barely any savory vegetarian options. I went with the Napa scramble. The scramble itself was very heavy on the spinach and light on the sun-dried tomatoes, which made for a not great texture and duller flavor. I did appreciate the bites with the creamy, tangy goat cheese. The toast was just ok and the strawberry jam it came with was very runny. I did enjoy the fresh greens on the side that were lightly dressed.

A little on the watery side. Chicken bites came out in about 15 minutes. The coating had a very satisfying crunch, very saucy, but fell off the chicken easily and was a bit salty. This is a messy dish for sure. You will get your hands dirty! Chorizo Benedict came out about 30 minutes after order. Not great honestly. Portion size was generous. The eggs were poached decently, still runny, but the chorizo itself was bland and rather dry. The potatoes were room temperature. The bread a bit too chewy. Not AT ALL spicy. Super light on the pico de gallo. The service was rather slow for not being very busy. They didn't appear to be understaffed either. The location itself is cozy and not too loud, which is nice! Short walk from down town. The staff was kind, but boy were they slow. From being seated to paying for my meal was well over an hour! Automatic 2.5% "service fee" total was $46.50 before tip. I don't think I'll be returning unfortunately. The search for a good Benedict in LA area continues!

This place is charming and we got sat indoors overlooking the pool. It really felt like I was in another city somewhere. The servers and hosts were very attentive and very helpful answering any questions. Everything everyone ate look absolutely fantastic. Drinks: sunset spritz was a wonderful spin on the classic aperol but it had Vodka in it so it gave it an extra kick, but did not taste boozy. I also had the cucumber marg and our server asked me if I would like some Jalapeno slices in it and it really elevated the whole experience. Apps: the PEI mussels were beautifully arranged and the curry sauce that it in was very flavorful. I highly recommend this as a starter. The steak tartar was a whole show, the server walked out with a glass case that was ultra smoky, which they opened in front of you. It was a dinner and a show!! The tartar was very delicious. If you're a tartar fan, you have to get this. Wedge salad deserves it's only paragraph! It was huge, the pecans were a nice touch. I am not a fan of blue cheese dressing but it was not at all over powering. It was absolutely incredible. Mains: we ordered the branzino and these short ribs and both were cooked to perfection. The branzino had a perfect char to the skin and the server recommended the short ribs with mashed potatoes versus what it comes with which was shave carrots. The majority of the food and drinks were on special that ended 6 p m. If you do go I highly recommend going before 6.
