Tried this place out through a 'groupon' deal. If it wasn't for the groupon, we would have never known about this place. We heard one server tell another table that they were unusually busy this weekend because of the groupon. She looked like she was on top of things. It's a cute place. Shaded tables in the front, sunny tables in the back, and a few tables inside. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes, we were seated inside upon my request. It was a bit chilly. I think the owner seated us. He sat us right next to the couch so we could put our baby carrier right by us, and not on the floor. Smart thinking. :) Sadly, this is where is went downhill quickly. Our server, Sean, took forever to come over to us. I think he kept forgetting about us since we were inside. It took forever for our drinks to arrive and then it took forever for our food to arrive...took forever to get our check. We usually tip 20% or a tad over, (my dad was in the service industry for years and we like to tip generously) but this was the first time in AGES we tipped less than 20%. We all ordered something different: seafood bennie, asparagus bennie, new orleans omelette, and 3 eggs and potatoes. The potatoes were good, but the rest of the food was just mediocre. After driving by the Fig Tree for months, we finally gave it a try. Should have gone there earlier. The Fig Tree has perhaps the best omelets I have ever had. The fired potatoes are so good you know they can't be good for you. Homemade yogurt and granola. Wait Time- Considering that this place appeared to be packed and it was prime brunch time, the wait wasn't too bad. We were seated within 20 mins as the hostess advised. The restaurant is located betwixt a huge tree; I am guessing it's a fig tree, so there was plenty of shade during the wait. Ambiance- This by far is the best feature of this restaurant! It has a romantic rustic vibe with a mostly covered patio dining area. All and all its really charming! Food- The service of the food was horrendous. I ordered the Veggie Scramble (3 eggs + sun-dried tomatoes + goat cheese + spinach + house potatoes + sourdough bread) and my bf ordered the French toast (with Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Sautéed Apples) and Breakfast Sushi (3 thick bacon rolls (baked w/brown sugar + paprika) + rice + scrambled eggs + scallions. fresh fruit + plum sauce). It took us over an hour to get our food at which time my bf had to complain to the hostess about our wait. Once we actually got out food my veggie scramble was cold -_-. I was STARVING at this time and was just gonna suck it up and eat it but it was so gross I couldn't stomach it. Also it didn't come with potatoes as mentioned in the menu!!! The cafe has a great decor with a lot of open space. I like how it's a modern and slightly rustic feeling. The open area makes it feel more inviting to sit outside and have some fun decorations. The servers are great, very sweet and quick. The spicy strawberry marg is fantastic! If you like the salty, spicy flavors this is the drink for you. I personally got the espresso martini and it has a great flavor that isn't too sweet. You don't taste much of the alcohol and becomes a little more bitter once you drink more of it. The huevos rancheros was okay, the whole bottom of the skillet is just beans. They could have put more sauce on it and the eggs were fine. It was a very simple dish that could have been made a home. The wind omelet was average with mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheese. The one thing that I thought was great were the potato's with truffles. It was an upgrade but worth it. The English muffin didn't come with any side like butter or jam, which was a little bit of a bummer and also one of them were burnt. They have different options of seating so you can be indoors or outdoors or at the bar, etc.we really enjoyed seating at the bar because the guys were so nice and helpful , I didn't know about this location but it became my favorite. I've been here on 3 occasions, my most recent was last weekend, and I figured it's time to write a review. The first time was amazing, the second time was lackluster, but my most recent experience was really disappointing. My most recent experience was on a Saturday at 11am, prime brunch hour, surprisingly no long wait like my previous experiences so I had high hopes. They sat my party of 2 in front and I requested to sit in the back, which is furnished as if straight off a Pinterest board- very cute with a DIY feel to it. The hostess accommodated my request accordingly. FOOD: He got the breakfast sushi and I ordered the lobster Benedict on focaccia with tomato and avocado as recommended. We also shared the side of arugula potatoes. The breakfast sushi has a nice presentation, piles of rice with bacon wrapped around and plum sauce on top. However, the breakfast sushi is overall very bland. When ordering the breakfast sushi, you are primarily ordering for a large plate of bland rice that is just presented nicely. DO NOT ORDER THE BREAKFAST SUSHI. I could also tell the lobster with my eggs benedict was not fresh, and they try to cover it up by frying it into a patty. I wasn't fooled by this as I could taste the "fishiness." The house special arugula potatoes that I've ordered in the past have somehow declined in quality. The potatoes were really oily and soggy. I took probably 4 bites of my meal before I just sat there poking my fork at it. SERVICE: Practically nonexistent. Our server was nice, but once he took our order and gave us the food, he did not check up on us. We had to wait until the end of our meal for refills on our water. It's such a simple task for servers to come by to check if we need refills or anything, and it's inexcusable to not do so. Never coming back here! read more

Honestly this location is very cute, but my food was very unmemorable and kind of bland. My friends chilaquiles were decent but definitely not the best i've ever had. There seemed to be about one server for the entire place who barely made it around to get us our check. Had some sort of mimosa drink also but was not very exciting for the price. I can finally say that I've been to all three fig tree cafés! That was not an intentional goal either but I'm hella happy to say that. It was a nice winter morning in San Diego and this spot is the perfect brunch place. It has a cozy outdoor feel and the service is spot on. The servers are attentive and very personable. I order their housemate lobster and blue crab bennie and it was to my standards. The egg was nicely poached and runny. The lobster and crab cake Bennie wasn't didn't have premade patty texture, it was shredded and easy to cut with a fork. The sauce was cooked and seasoned perfectly where is was smooth in texture and creamy! It did break, curdle or taste overly lemony. Our group even tried the gogi shot which surprisingly tasted delicious and refreshing. Everyone pretty much are everything off their plates because it was done so right. read more

If it's raining and you STILL enjoy eating outdoors you know a place has charm. We voyaged here on a rainy Saturday morning starving and ready to grub. But I suppose like all good things, there was a wait. The seating methodology did puzzle me a bit, a party of 4 was seated before our party of 2, then a party of 3 sat before us at a table made for 5. I get wanting to maximize your tables but it's no fun watching people happily order and eat as you await a 2 seater opening. The food however was worth the drizzly wait. Coffee was scrumptious and the server topped it off once or twice. Happytime. I scarfed down the eggs benedict with avocado, so wonderful. I opted to get it on foccacia rather than the usual English muffin which turned out to be an excellent choice. My friend had the Landansea (sp?) omelette which looked great and was tons of food. The side potatoes were awesome with onions to add to the savory taste. Did I mention the coffee? YUM. The ivy covered canopy you're seated under is very serene, a dining area really unique from any breakfast spots in my hometown of Vegas. We were happy campers in this Pacific Beach gem! read more

I won't be coming here again, I've been before and had good experiences. Today when we sat we were brought all the way to the very back of the restaurant to a tiny little area that felt like a storage unit. The walls were corrugated metal and bland and the wood paneling was drab. We were in the corner and the music was so loud we couldn't even hear each other. For a restaurant known for its good vibes and wonderful sitting areas under the trees, I was disappointed to be in this obviously very rushed expansion of the restaurant with very little decor and fake plants. The two little poinsettias sitting on the ground in the middle of the walkway also felt extremely out of place. The back expansion room just felt extremely tacky compared to the rest of the restaurant. If you're going to expand your restaurant maybe put some time into actually making it feel welcome, it felt really packed in there and with everyone else in there combined with the extremely loud music and terrible acoustics it was not that pleasant. Not only that but my friend tripped over a water bowl for a dog that was just left out in the open. Our server was fine and the food was fine but man for a restaurant known for its great vibes and cute dining areas we were really let down. If you're offered a seat in this terrible little area do not take it it felt like a metal prison. Compared to the rest of the restaurant it felt really out of placed and rushed, the wood paneling was obviously brand new and had very little decorations on it and where the screws were screwed into the wood paneling you could tell it was rushed because the wood was splitting from the screws, someone didn't even take the time to put pilot holes in before screwing in the panels. Our table also didn't have a QR code on it and I almost had to go get someone so we could get menus. Seriously for a restaurant known for good vibes, we could have had better vibes at a different restaurant and had a lesser wait time. The food is good but not worth the wait or sitting in a terrible storage unit. If you're going to expand the restaurant actually put some time into making it feel welcome. read more

One of my preferred breakfast/brunch restaurants in town. I found this place through groupon, so keep a lookout for those deals. Not usually a fan of coffee but I really enjoyed their cappuccino. My favorites are their crab cake eggs benedict and their stuffed french toast with fig with orange syrup. I think their orange syrup is the best! We have been here the third time now and we like to come back. It has a very beachy, earthy and free spirit interior. It kind of feels like you are taking a break in a hut at the side of a forest. The service is very nice, fast and has good recommendations. I can recommend this place for breakfast. Lunch is also very good. Although they don't have a huge selection everything on the menu makes your mouth water ;) Do you know this feeling when the servers walk by your table with food that others order and you say "uh that looks good" 10 times in a row. You will definitely have this feeling here. They also have a very chill bar that I definitely want to check out soon. They do have heaters for the very cold winters in San Diego as well. I gabbed the "California Bennie" which had smoked turkey and avocado, i enjoyed that they didn't cheap out on the avocado slices which were thick. The decor on their patio seating area was nice and had a laidback feeling as if you're in a treehouse, i dont know if thats what they were going for but thats what it felt like. Lastly the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars was the service, while our waitress was nice unfortunately she took forever to take our order and as well as getting and picking up our check, I would understand if she was busy but it was on a slow Monday morning. read more

Got there and walk straight in to find my order waiting. I got the California burrito and french toast sampler. The burrito was amazing, not greasy and fulfilling. I was able to only finish half. They do not skimp on the avocado nor pile it with a lot of potatoes like most places. It was full of flavor and get it again next time. The french toast was amazing. Crispy on the outside and sponge soft inside. i got the berry and apple. Tasted like pie. Must get but the sampler size was smaller than expected. What a great restaurant. It has almost all outdoor seating, but the "walls and ceilings" are made of beautiful blooming vines. I had the California Bennie which was an eggs benedict with smoked salmon. What a pleasant suprise to see that the turkey was real turkey and not just lunch meat. My companions each had the gluten-free French toast - one with strawberries and one with blueberries. Both of them ate every bite. Enough said. They also had a side of turkey bacon. I came here with a friend and experienced the weirdest customer service. We were approached by one server and then another server approached us and asked to take our drink order. We told her someone else had already helped us. She seemed annoyed but helped us with the rest of our meal. She was saying "thank you" to us for things that didn't even make sense and it was just a very awkward interaction. She walked up to the table sitting next to us and started cleaning the condiments and doing other things. She told them she wanted to start early enough so she didn't have to stay longer after her shift to clean up. You don't say that to customers, nor do you interrupt their brunch! There were a total of 4 parties in the restaurant, all but one was served their food by the time we ordered. It took 35 minutes to receive an omelette and pancakes. My friend from Boston and I picked this place to have brunch before hitting up Seaworld on a Saturday morning, and it was great. There is no parking lot, so parking on the street can be busy, especially with lots of people wanting to eat there. With that said, the wait we had that Saturday morning was surprisingly not that long, about 15 mins, with their service being super quick and friendly. The environment was definitely relaxing and clean outside where we sat, and the staff were always on the ball with checking on what we need. I do however, take one star off for the coffee. At first, I thought I had defective taste buds for the day, but my friend also realized their coffee was overly bitter. Over burnt, roasted improperly or just stale beans? I dunno, but it really had to be fixed. Food we got however, was incredible for a good price. There's a lot to look at, mind you, so when I was asked as soon as I sat down, I immediately just got the popular meatloaf hash with my eggs sunny-side up. It's definitely filling, especially that they give you 3 eggs with meat and potatoes. It's the pesto added though that heightened the deliciousness of that dish. My friend, the lover of cheese, got her stuffed french toast filled with mascarpone, strawberries, and bananas (instead of her allergies to mangos). Food was excellent. But I couldn't enjoy it because of all the flies buzzing around us. We sat in the outdoor seating area and we were constantly shooing the flies away -- and I mean constantly. One even got trapped in my daughter's water. Not sure why the other guests didn't look like they were bothered by the flies. My absolutely favorite breakfast spot in PB. I'm so surprised about positive reviews for some places like Broken Yolk and others. People that think you get good quality breakfast prepared with good ingredients by someone who takes pride in the food he/she sends out to customers just don't know what they are talking about. There is an issue with well known "institutions" in San Diego getting good reviews because of some interesting kind of peer pressure. Many places start off with higher standards and then ride the wave of past fame while becoming lazy. Fig Tree Cafe serves amazing high quality and flavorful food since 2008 in PB. We sat outside, which was a tremendously nice treat for a desert person like me who pretty much shuns the outdoors this time of year back home. Liz was our amazing waitress. She was so accommodating with our 5-year-old and suggested some menu items for her. Any place that is kind to parents and their children is truly appreciated! The service was outstanding. I really love this place because there is enough variety of menu items to accommodate "foodie" types and people who have simpler taste palates. I ordered the Traditional Bennie on house baked focaccia, my husband had the American, and my daughter had a pancake with strawberries. I also couldn't help but enjoy two cups of their delicious coffee as well. The classic, tall mug was a site for sore eyes! Figtree is to me the best brunch place I've found in San Diego! A local recommended us and we loved it. The food is really cheap too. I tried their turkey sandwich and it is the best turkey sandwich I ever had! 3 thick turkey slices, avocado, toasted sourdough bread, bacon and mozzarella + cheddar cheese together.
