Great way to spend a morning in San Diego enjoying exceptional food and service. Do check this out when you are in SD and you won't be disappointed! Love the outdoorsy vibe of the cafe. I got the tuscan bennie which was excellent - the sun dried tomatoes were juicy and so flavorful and I couldn't stop eating those potatoes that came with it. Husband got the stuffed french toast and the man candy bacon. The french toast wasn't really stuffed, rather was wrapped around the mango bits and mascarpone cheese, tasty nevertheless. We also checked out their store merchandise in the end but they didn't have any more of the t-shirt sizes we wanted, so we didn't end up purchasing any. Highly recommend this place! Every time I go to California I end up at the spot for my little breakfast meet and greet..It has a wonderful welcoming vibe with outside seating everyone is very friendly you're allowed to bring your dog and it's just has that whole California vibe at this place!! I love the Fig Tree Cafe. However, I have two legitimate complaints. 1. I was devastated to see that you took the congee off the menu. It was one of my favorite dishes. I even told friends all about it, and they were going to come and have some. 2. The sidewalk in front of your restaurant is very dangerous. My 82 year old husband fell there on the lower, uneven brick part. Luckily he wasn't hurt badly. As it seems to be taking forever for the city to get out and fix that, I suggest getting traffic cones and placing them on that brick area. Hopefully that will prevent somebody from really getting hurt If it weren't for these two things, I would give you five stars. And I love that your cafe is the first one in San Diego. and I'd love a tour about which parts were first! read more

From the moment I first glanced at the Fig Tree's menu, I knew I was in for a treat. Never before have I seen so many delectable items on a menu. The French toast options, in particular, caught my eye and I wasn't sure how I could possibly decide on a flavor. Ultimately, I chose the cinnamon apple and it was absolutely incredible. The carmelized apples were just the right amount of sweet and the French toast was perfectly moist. The dish is plentiful and, despite wanting to never stop eating it, I had to throw my hands up at the halfway point. I also ordered a side of potatoes, which were equally delicious. The saltiness of the potatoes was a great complement to the sweet French toast. I noticed that they offer a French toast sampler of three different kinds but it's a huge portion that's meant for two people. I wish they offered a half size portion sampler for just one person. I would love to try more of their varieties but my boyfriend doesn't have a sweet tooth. My friend and I visited on a Sunday morning around 11 AM and had a 20 minute wait. I imagine a bigger group would have a longer wait. The restaurant was full the entire time we were there and after trying the food, I see why it's so popular. The ambiance of the restaurant, particularly in the back, is adorable. It's like sitting in a treehouse and being surrounded by foliage. As such, the majority of the seats are shaded so be sure to bring a jacket if it's even a bit chilly out. My friend and I had a slight mishap with a coffee pitcher that attacked us from above during our meal but the staff were all very kind and apologetic. While it's never pleasant to have hot (but thankfully not scalding) coffee dumped on you, it's nice to have people who genuinely care about customer's happiness and well-being. We greatly appreciated their offer to comp the bill as an apology and I won't hold the incident against them and their delicious French toast. read more

Friends got the crab cake sandwhich with fries and the Cali Bene (cali eggs benedict). The crab cake was delicious, and I live the way they season the fries with spices like paprika, ect. The Cali bene was also good with the poached eggs cooked to the perfect consistency, but there were only 2 slices of avocadoes on it, which was kind of sad.. I got the stuffed french toast. It was so yum: dusted with powdered sugar, stuffed with ricotta cheese, strawberries and mangoes--all very fresh tasting. There was such a great balance of flavors and it was not too sweet at all. We ordered the champagne bottle and fresh OJ - $22, the champagne wasn't very good The service we received was extremely slow and our waitress was not at all friendly. Oh gosh, I think this is my favorite brunch place in SD. Best of all, we came here at 12:30PM on a Saturday and the wait was about 10 minutes. Try imagining a wait that short for Snooze or Hash House! In general, I don't really like potatoes, but oh my goodness, the rosemary potatoes that accompany most of the entrees here are so amazing. They arrive on the table crispy and hot, not too salty, golden and fragrant, and bursting with yummy. I ordered the crab cake benny with the hollandaise on the side and I think I can safely say that it was literally a million times better than the one I tried at George at the Cove's. The eggs were plump and runny once pierced, the English muffins were soft, warm, and chewy, and the slices of tomato and avocado added a freshness to the crowning piece: the thick and delectable crabcakes. One of the new items they were thinking about adding to the summer menu was the white peach french toast laden with orange-infused syrup. I sure hope the managers read this review because my vote is that yes, this french toast is a necessity. The white peaches lent the toast a perfect summery sweetness. I kept stealing pieces from my friend's plate because I felt like I was transported to an idyllic orchard in Georgia every time I took a bite. I've heard paeans given for the stuffed french toast (how can one go wrong with fresh fruit and sweet mascarpone) so that is next on my list once I come back. Visited Fig Tree this past Sunday, June 6, 2021, after a morning walk at Mission Bay. Got there around 9am and was seated immediately on the patio. We got our waters and I saw a bunch of little debris (probably from a tree) so asked for another, which looked fresh sans debris.
