2 item combo with rice. Okay sinigang and okay kare kare. I definitely had way better!
    Rannie S.

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it was actually kind of disappointing. This was around 4:30pm (early dinner) and they ran out of fish and they ran out of chicken adobo. Chicken adobo is one the most common Filipino food, how do you run out of that? So I went for the Kare Kare (my favorite) and pork sinigang. Both lacked flavor and both lacked vegetables, just all meat. I asked for shrimp paste for the Kare Kare and she said she didn't have any. Next time I decide I don't want to cook Filipino food, I won't go here. They need to do better! The positive - service was fast and service was nice but it won't be enough for me to come again.

I'm pretty impressed with this place because of the wide selection of authentic Filipino dishes they offer. Served in a cafeteria style, the sisig was delicious with the right amount of onion and spices. Unlike others I have tasted, Dinuguan was not too sour, which I prefer. The pork menudo had that authentic blend - it could have been liver spread as one of the ingridient. The pinakbet with kalabasa brought back some memories of the barrio. They also sell premade Filipino desserts like flan, palitaw, biko, and more. The servers behind the counter were friendly as well. Plenty of seating. Not a fancy place, but excellent authentic food. Must try!!!

This restaurant is located in the University shoppes located to the far left of the strip mall. There is plenty of parking. The interior is spacious with seating cafe style - booths along the wall, cafe 4 top tables in the main area, and more in the adjacent room. There are food items for purchase in the adjacent room and along the wall to the right before ordering at the counter. I informed the staff this was my first time and they were helpful in assisting with food choices and explained the items. I opted for the white rice with 2 entree items. The lumpia were half sized and were great to get a few to try. The food and snack item all cost under $20 which was a bargain and the tray was packed with food. Everything was flavorful and delicious! The staff were helpful and made sure I enjoyed my first visit!

Pictures are taken after we already started eating. Food is served cafeteria style. My boyfriend ordered for me because I didn't know what a lot of the dishes. They also sell premade desserts, sweet Thai chili sauce , vinegar and CD's.i got the pancit and lumpia. The pancit was ok, I'm picky because I am used to my boyfriend's mother making it. Lumpia was good just small but you get 5. Order to go, you get more food in a container. The have a few booths and several table and chairs. Filipino decor. My only main complaint is the amount of styrofoam and plastic that is used. All in all, you get a good amount of food for the price.

If you haven't had authentic Filipino food from the Philippines . You don't worry a bit. Oriental Cuisine Kainan is where you want to get your grub on. Every time I visit Virginia Beach, Virginia. I always gotta have my Lechon kawali, caldereta, pinakbet and some pandesals to go. Great for breakfast the next day. I come here all the time. The food is just like what your mama and Lola use to make. All are very tasty and delicious. You won't be disappointed especially if you miss Filipino cuisine. Affordable and worth the trip! Service is excellente, Ambience is like being in Metro Manila , Philippines

The people here are friendly. Lots of selection for lunch and dessert. The lechon is not too fatty (one thing we can't stand) and everything was delicious. The music playing was nice. Tables were clean. No complaints at all.

Whenever i have to go in the area where Kainan is my kids know we're stopping for lumpia... It was raining hard outside and i was about to just go home. But I'm glad i didn't.. Lol... I went in and ordered 30 lumpia. They're $.33 a piece which is reasonable. They're short lumpia, but they're delicious... Today they were hot and fresh and crispy... I absolutely love the sweet chili sauce that comes with it. I could drink that sauce by itself... Lol... Mmmmm. I also got chicken and pork on a stick, ube biko, and menudo with rice... Somebody's grandma put their foot in that flavorful menudo... It was delicious... It went good with the white rice.. Very filling and tasty... The chicken and pork on a stick were yummy as well. The bbq sauce on them is good... The ube biko is very sticky with just a little sweetness. I liked it but had to get over the texture as it was weird, but thats how its supposed to be.. I'd eat it again even though its not something I'd typically eat. They have several options on the line to choose from. Pansit, fish, vegetables, empanadas, and more. The staff is always nice.. The cashier has been there forever, he's a cool guy.. I like chatting with him, he gets you in and out!! This is the place to go for a quick dinner or lunch and good comfort food.. The prices are reasonable. They also have seating to dine in and offer a buffet.. My family orders from here when we have large gatherings and they always come through for us. If you need lumpia for a party this is the place to get it.. Check them out!! Their one of the best Filipino restaurants in the area..

If you are craving/wanting to try Filipino food, you NEED to come here. It's similar to cafeteria style. They had a lot of traditional Filipino dishes and some that I've never heard of before too. I got the pancit with two entrees last time and it was so much food that you'll probably have enough for two meals. The lechon belly and sisig were so good, so if you don't know what to get, at least get these two. To be honest, I don't think you could go wrong with any of their food items. The pricing was worth it for the amount of food that you get. Definitely try some of their sweets too! I can't wait to come back here again when I'm in the area.

Food was okay! I wanted to like this place but I feel like there wasn't a lot of vegetarian options so I couldn't try too much of the food. I had the shrimp fritter & chop suey with rice. I also had a tofu lumpia sariwa which was alright. The shrimp fritter was cold but I'm sure it would have tasted better if it was hot & crispy. Chopsuey was average. I would have liked the lumpia sariwa if it didn't fall apart. I think it was wrapped in plastic wrap it would have been better. I know it's popular place in the area so I'm sure it's better for meat eaters.

Lechong kawali pork belly slabs deep fried until crispy in a pan seasoned beforehand cooked and served in cubes. accompanied with seeping sauce called sarsa ng lechon (lechong sauce) made from vinegar, liver, soy sauce, calamansi ( Pilipino lemon) Dinuguan Filipino savory stew usually of pork offal and or meat simmered in a rich spicy dark gravy of pig's blood, garlic chili and vinegar. Pork Stew (Menudo) a Filipino pork stew made of pork and sliced liver in tomato sauce with carrots and potatoes. The service is good. They provided all the sauce you need and the staff are courteous. The restaurant is clean including their bathroom. The place had good lighting.

Whenever we are at VA Beach, we stop by Kainan for some of the best filipino food around. The line can get pretty long during lunch but the food is served from the hot bar. For combos, you can choose pancit or rice as a base then one or two entrees. I always get the Lechon, comes out with super crispy skin and stays juicy. They also have Lechon sauce in the front. Sisig is also very good along with the squid if they have it available. Their turon is also really crispy, sweet, and fresh. If you dine in, the combos come with free soup as well. Super reasonable prices on everything with large portions. They also have a decent amount of seating if you want to sit down.

I went with 4 stars this time but could be inspired to bump it up next visit. This eatery is open very reduced hours, Thursday thru Sunday from 1130am to 5pm. We got there at noon and followed a large group in the door. None of us were sure where to go exactly, but had I not been stuck behind them it would have been easy to figure out. Basically there is a large, beautifully appointed dining space with lots of seating configurations. This is not an all you can eat buffet. This is a cafeteria. Everything is a la carte. You approach the glass food cases, grab a tray and silverware and wait for one of the staff to offer you your choice of salads - I saw a pasta salad, fresh fruit, and the fixin's for a tossed green salad. We opted for the fruit salad and the tossed green salad. Then we approached the entree case where I spied liver and onions, meatloaf, baked chicken and some other offerings. The special of the day was a mango sauce pork chop. My friend opted for the pork chop and I got the liver and onions. The liver portion was huge - two large pieces of liver which was very tender and tasty. My granddaughter got the mac and cheese which appeared to be very cheesy and of the homemade variety. She ate all of her fresh fruit and some of the mac and cheese, which is more than she has eaten most places we go. I did not get any food photos as I forgot until we were well into our meals. There were some bread options including corn bread muffins. I got one that came with a small dollop of butter and it was sweet but not anything special. There was only one dessert option that I saw that looked like sweet potato pie and we passed on it. Drink options include sweet tea and mango lemonade. I would love if they offered the mango iced tea they have down the street. I did not see unsweet tea which is my drink of choice. Now to the reason I went with 4 stars. I had no idea what I was getting, what came with it, and how much it was. I paid for the pork chop, liver, salad, fruit, corn muffin, mac and cheese and 2 drinks and it came to about $35. That seems very reasonable and certainly not shocking. But I could not tell what the offerings were as they were not labelled, I did not know what came with sides and what didn't, and after the fact I noticed a very small sign about a children's meal, and found out it is spaghetti, bread and a drink for $4.99. I would really like to have the various options clearly identified and know the prices. I believe prices are posted on very small signs but not in a way that caught my attention or made sense to me. I am just one of those people that likes to know what my options are and know what I'm spending. Call me quirky that way. Limited hours must meet some demographic they are hoping to reach, perhaps the Sunday after church crowd fits perfectly in those hours. Still, a cafeteria concept can work and fill a niche in the revitalization of downtown Phoebus. Depending how long the serving line gets, because standing in line is not how I like to spend my meal time, I would like to give this eatery another chance soon!

Everything about it was good, the texture of the mushroom, the cheese (vegan?), the plant based sausage. I inhaled it and the carrot soufflé, which I'd never heard of though apparently everyone else has. ;) My first time trying maque choux as well - decent. This meal was amazing and I had a great time inhaling it at the waterfront a block away from the restaurant. 2nd visit, April 1st- more carrot soufflé please! Tried the cabbage - a green herb is included in the seasoning, tastes like basil or oregano or a blend. Different. I like it. Their salmon croquettes have a crust I'm not used to - maybe cornmeal? Some of the edges were overdone. Inside was meat only, maybe a few grains of rice, which isn't the best for salmon cakes, as they need something to keep them moist. These were on the dry side but edible. 3rd visit - more carrot soufflé please! 4th visit - went on a Sunday for the first time, which is when they have turkey wings. I ordered carrot soufflé and cabbage as sides. Was told that it comes with rice as a side and normally the soufflé would have to be an extra, separate side, but she went ahead and allowed me to opt out of the rice and have both my sides of choice. (I would have gladly paid an up charge for a premium side). Lots of turkey, good gravy. There is no picture evidence. Inhaled. 5th visit - cousin treated me to a delivery today. Turkey wings, rice, and cabbage pictured. I was trying to fight a carrot soufflé addiction and didn't request it. I regret it. ;) Cuz said thanks for hipping her to the spot - she walked out with 4 entrees herself ;) :O

I would absolutely purchase a jar of the sauce alone. CRAB RANGOON FLATBREAD : an elevated version of a favorite take out additive. Sauce to ingredient ratio was to die for! GREEN GODDESS & MANGO SALAD : this salad was dressed to perfection, allowing all items to shine in its each individual way. STRAWBERRY CRUMB CRÈME BRÛLÉE : for the most part , I tend to stray away from a crème brûlée due to the lack of creativity. HOWEVER, the strawberry crunch crumbs and that dream of a sugar crust. The passionfruit was so tart with a subtle sourness that aided the coconut shortbread cookie. I would like to shout out our waitress Fantasia for an amazing service that evening by ensuring the plates never stopped coming, drinks stayed full, and any requests satisfied. As well as Chef Braedon for coming out to introduce himself and explain the magic he placed on our table. My friends and I will most definitely be back.

We visit several times a year and are always impressed by the quality. We always order the She Crab soup and a Wedge Salad as appetizers to share. They are both so good, I'd probably request them as my last meal! The She Crab soup is absolute perfection, creamy and full of lump crab. I will not order She Crab soup anywhere else after trying theirs. The wedge has pickled onions, candied bacon, blue cheese and some kind of marinated or pickled tomato. Paired all together to make the perfect bite. We have tried a lot of the menu, it does rotate around seasonally, but there are some items that are consistent. The burger was absolutely decadent but not overwhelming. I usually order the "secret", not so secret Shrimp dinner that's not on the menu anymore. You get 6 of their amazing fried shrimp, a magical dipping sauce (cant' describe it!), and 2 sides. (see what's their seasonal sides!)
