What a lovely lunch/ early dinner spot in the CoVA region. I have heard about Fiesta Kainan from several of my former coworkers before but never got around to trying them until recently. I tried out the caldereta and the mechado (?). I liked both items but I found it too oily for my liking. The vegetables were stewed perfectly and the meat texture were nice and tender. I think had I visited earlier in the day, it may have had a less oily texture to it. The accompanying soup was super sour but acted as a perfect palate cleanser after the oily meals. The service was excellent-- friendly, patient, and helpful. You can pick and choose different entrees over rice or pancit. Similar to getting food from Panda Express. The inside of the restaurant has several family friendly seatings available and baked goods and market also. Lastly, parking is free and plentiful right across from the front entrance. If an out of area Filipino asked for a good place to eat, I wouldn't hesitate recommending them. I certainly wouldn't mind revisiting again in the future. read more

Late review, but husband and I came here last month to meet up with a popular kapampangan vlogger. I was very impressed with everyone at Fiesta Kainan. I love how well they treated Mak Mariano, and his friends, and also those that came to see and hang out with him. The staff were very kind to allow us all to hang out and take pictures. The food- My hubby ate while I enjoyed hanging out, listening to, and watching Mak tell stories and interact with everyone. Hubby enjoyed the food as always. This was our 2nd time or 3rd time coming here, and even though I can't remember what we had, I know for sure we enjoyed the food. This time around my hubby had Kare-kare and really liked it! We also bought a big container of sisig to go, which we had for dinner and we absolutely love it!!! I'd say Fiesta Kainan is our new fave go to for quick Filipino meals. read more

This was my go to spot for yummy Filipino dishes. I mean like 2-3x a week easily for lunch! I was like the staff and the food quality. They recently went under new management/owner and I feel that homey feeling you get no longer exists. The restaurant now has a store where you can buy frozen items and pantry items, so that's a plus. But the quality of food is not the same and the staff aren't either. They are rude and in Tagalog they joke the non speaking natives when they order or ask questions. I have seen it first hand so many times and thank God I understand the language because the moment I hear them say something about me I'm blasting them. But for the others, it's unfortunate. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it was actually kind of disappointing. This was around 4:30pm (early dinner) and they ran out of fish and they ran out of chicken adobo. Chicken adobo is one the most common Filipino food, how do you run out of that? So I went for the Kare Kare (my favorite) and pork sinigang. Both lacked flavor and both lacked vegetables, just all meat. I asked for shrimp paste for the Kare Kare and she said she didn't have any. Next time I decide I don't want to cook Filipino food, I won't go here. They need to do better! Served in a cafeteria style, the sisig was delicious with the right amount of onion and spices. Unlike others I have tasted, Dinuguan was not too sour, which I prefer. The pork menudo had that authentic blend - it could have been liver spread as one of the ingridient. The pinakbet with kalabasa brought back some memories of the barrio. They also sell premade Filipino desserts like flan, palitaw, biko, and more. The servers behind the counter were friendly as well. Plenty of seating. Not a fancy place, but excellent authentic food. A newly renovated clean and airy Filipino restaurant. They are expanding to a Filipino snack and grocery store. We came late but they have still a lot of selection. The staff are so nice and engaging. I've been buying and eating from them and I always feel welcomed. They are family oriented and welcomes large group as they also have a room for exclusive parties. The food is always excellent, delicious and comes in a large serving. They offer meals , siopao and much Filipino desserts. I'm very pleased with today and will always come back for more. This restaurant is located in the University shoppes located to the far left of the strip mall. There is plenty of parking. The interior is spacious with seating cafe style - booths along the wall, cafe 4 top tables in the main area, and more in the adjacent room. There are food items for purchase in the adjacent room and along the wall to the right before ordering at the counter. I informed the staff this was my first time and they were helpful in assisting with food choices and explained the items. I opted for the white rice with 2 entree items. The lumpia were half sized and were great to get a few to try. The food and snack item all cost under $20 which was a bargain and the tray was packed with food. First off, let's start by saying that this is not a buffet restaurant. Many of the pictures are misleading. Think of it more of a cafeteria style.... You walk along the counter, point to what you want, and they have servers that will put what you want into containers. Been there twice during lunch and the place is packed with lineups going out the door. The food is great. My favorites are the lumpia and the noodles. Whenever i have to go in the area where Kainan is my kids know we're stopping for lumpia... It was raining hard outside and i was about to just go home. But I'm glad i didn't.. Lol... I went in and ordered 30 lumpia. They're $.33 a piece which is reasonable. They're short lumpia, but they're delicious... Today they were hot and fresh and crispy... I absolutely love the sweet chili sauce that comes with it. I could drink that sauce by itself... Lol... Mmmmm. I also got chicken and pork on a stick, ube biko, and menudo with rice... Somebody's grandma put their foot in that flavorful menudo... It was delicious... It went good with the white rice.. Very filling and tasty... The chicken and pork on a stick were yummy as well. The bbq sauce on them is good... The ube biko is very sticky with just a little sweetness. I liked it but had to get over the texture as it was weird, but thats how its supposed to be.. I'd eat it again even though its not something I'd typically eat. They have several options on the line to choose from. Pansit, fish, vegetables, empanadas, and more. The staff is always nice.. The cashier has been there forever, he's a cool guy.. I like chatting with him, he gets you in and out!! This is the place to go for a quick dinner or lunch and good comfort food.. If you are craving/wanting to try Filipino food, you NEED to come here. It's similar to cafeteria style. They had a lot of traditional Filipino dishes and some that I've never heard of before too. I got the pancit with two entrees last time and it was so much food that you'll probably have enough for two meals. The lechon belly and sisig were so good, so if you don't know what to get, at least get these two. To be honest, I don't think you could go wrong with any of their food items. Food was okay! I wanted to like this place but I feel like there wasn't a lot of vegetarian options so I couldn't try too much of the food. I had the shrimp fritter & chop suey with rice. I also had a tofu lumpia sariwa which was alright. The shrimp fritter was cold but I'm sure it would have tasted better if it was hot & crispy. Chopsuey was average. I would have liked the lumpia sariwa if it didn't fall apart. I think it was wrapped in plastic wrap it would have been better. Whenever we are at VA Beach, we stop by Kainan for some of the best filipino food around. The line can get pretty long during lunch but the food is served from the hot bar. For combos, you can choose pancit or rice as a base then one or two entrees. I always get the Lechon, comes out with super crispy skin and stays juicy. They also have Lechon sauce in the front. Sisig is also very good along with the squid if they have it available. Their turon is also really crispy, sweet, and fresh. If you dine in, the combos come with free soup as well. It's been about 4 years since I got carry out lunch from here. Then I recall it wasn't as large of a place, I don't think they had an attached grocery. This time I was so surprised at the selection of turo turo (ala carte point to what you like for your entree - whether you want rice or pancit (noodles), and whether you want 1 or two viands). They had: - lechon kawali (roast pig), - sisig (pork), - menudo, - pinakbet (pork with bitter melon, squash, okra, Asian long green beans (sitaw) - longanisa (sausage) - Dinuguan (pork blood) - sinigang (sour soup), - chicken adobo, - chicken and pork BBQ on skewers - nilaga (boiled meat with veggies), List goes on! For sweets, they had hopia, palitaw, cassava cake, Biko, Kutchinta, maja Blanca (corn starch with sweet corn kernels), turon (fried banana in wrapper), Etc. And yes kababayan, I showed my half Vietnamese side slip by asking if the hopia had durian filling! The wall by where you start lining up to pick your entrees had ALL kinds of Filipino snacks- pork rinds, garlic peanuts, ube flavored filled cookies, clover chips, shrimp crackers, list goes on as well! So the past week the universe has been telling me to go make my own Filipino but because I'm always at work, here I am. This is the second Filipino restaurant I've been to in the past week. And judging from my last experience at Susan's Kitchenette, it's a miracle I even went to another Filipino restaurant. I thought the moldy, dishwater smelling pancit ruined my appetite for anything Filipino again. I digress... so I'm here at Kainan, it's right before noon. I'm thinking I'm in good shape to run in and out, but no. It's a long line but it moves quickly. Yay! And according to the sign, they have Tocino. Well, had. By the time I ordered, apparently they had been out for a while. So please take down the sign! At $9.99 for a two entree with pancit, it's reasonably priced. But since I'm greedy and need snacks for work, I spend twice the amount because they have shrimp chips!!! Did I mention they sell dry goods on one part of the restaurant? The pancit was ok, not overly salty or saucy but not very hot either. I'm thinking their heat lamps need adjustment because none of the food I bought to eat was actually hot. We got enough for it to be more "family style" and I loaded up my plate with a little bit of everything. It was all pretty good. Nothing really stood out to me as better than other Filipino spots I've tried before, but there wasn't anything that I wasn't excited to eat later for leftovers. "A-OK" really sums it up for me. A downside is their hours can be hit or miss. They don't always follow what is indicated on the door or online. I think that's just how things go with super small businesses like this one sometimes. If you are looking for an authentic Filipino food, You should visit Oriental Cuisine Kainan. This place should be your "go to" place after church or Sunday lunch. I usually visit on Sundays because that's the only day they have buffet. Unlike other Filipino buffet, Kainan has a large selection of Filipino foods. They have more than 15 entrees -which includes pancit, kare-kare, and sisig - and around 5 desserts -such as leche flan, ube, and cassava cake. For $12.99 (drinks included), you can eat a lot of Filipino foods that you can only eat on most Filipino parties. Even though I am a Filipino and can cook some of the foods they have on the buffet table, it is nice to be able to eat foods that I don't usually cook for dinner. If you are coming in on a Sunday, make sure that you are prepared to see a lot of hungry Filipinos. The place is packed and sometimes you will not have a choice, but to eat with strangers. You can pick your own table, but since Sundays are their busiest days, the hostess might ask you to seat with other parties. This is the only reason why I am not giving them 5 stars. They do not have a system on where their customers will seat when it gets too crowded. The renovated and expanded their restaurant which is a plus, and helped on the their table seating problem. Overall, Kainan will definitely a place where you can bring your family and friends who haven't had Filipino food for a long time. It is also a good place for large parties (as long as you call ahead for reservations). Kainan is a cafeteria style Filipino spot which is located right off of Indian River Rd, in a small strip mall across the street from Regent. My first and only experience (so far) at Kainan was for a baptism reception on 12/14/19. They have a banquet room (which can accommodate maybe 30-60 people) so you can coordinate with them for private parties. Their location is nice; it looked clean and well maintained, as well as their bathroom (they have single room bathrooms, so I cannot comment on the women's bathroom with any knowledge). Kainan isn't big but big enough so it won't seem crowded unless it's really busy. Magnus was the lucky boy who was just baptized and his parents opted for a plethora of dishes - lumpia, pancit, kaldereta, swai, lechon & menudo (there were some other dishes but I cannot remember them offhand). The food was served banquet style and there was so much of it! We had plenty of leftovers which pretty much set up for the entire week. Staff is friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed myself and their food is tasty. I will try them out soon as a regular patron. In the meantime, I'm happy there is another venue that serves Filipino food. JV read more

Food is super delicious. Have come here on a Sunday a few times. Go early for Sunday brunch because it gets super crowded, table to space is also not conducive to walking around or eating comfortably. My favorite go tos are the pancit, lumpias, Adobo chicken and Lechon Kawali. There are always dishes that I give a try but my palate just does not seem to agree with for some reason, for example the Kare Kare Beef has a thick peanut sauce. I am sure many others love it, but the beef peanut combo just wasn't my thing. Their head on shrimp is delicious and baby clams were great. I tried their squid and another miss for me. One thing I noticed that they lacked was Fresh vegetables...most of the veggies are stewed or just simply over cooked. Their dessert bar offers many options - many with coconut infused. I understand that they have a tray of Sams Club cookies for a reason...but I would almost just eliminate that. The fruit is also always fresh-though I wonder if they do a salt wash on them as the pineapples did have a subtle salty taste to them. Sunday brunch at kainan is an event. It is 12.99 which is all you can eat including drinks. Kainan is an authentic Filipino family owned restaurant. It has all the favorites - roast pork, pancit, menudo, etc. It also has some not so known favorites like sisig, shrimp sinigang. We got there early 1030 and we had our pick of food. By 1130 it was busy but the staff does a fantastic job of keeping the lines Moving. Our family loves their food. Definitely highly recommend them. read more

Try the orange drink near desserts instead of the fruit punch. It has just enough sweetness. They recently expanded and the setup gives it a better flow. If I was management I'd make a couple adjustments. 1) Make sure someone is posted at the register near the door during the rush hour buffet. We just walked in and went up to the buffet register not realizing where to pay. Maybe put a sign stating "pay here for buffet." 2) It was really warm, almost too warm to enjoy the food. My Filipino friends brought me the other day because they said it was a must try. I think they were trying to freak me out by all the authentic food they serve here, but little did they know, I live for authentic! We decided to do the Sunday brunch. Doors open at 11AM but if you want to eat you need to get there by 10:30-10:45. There's a line out the door. Mostly because the place is small. The buffet isn't huge. It's no American buffet. but you honestly don't even need that. I think its a perfect size, otherwise I think I may have been overwhelmed trying to try everything. The food was all outstanding! Fresh, hot and the service was great! They keep the tables clean. I think my only qualm with the place was that you have to buy water and it comes in a little bottle. I drink a TON of water. Especially when I'm eating. So I felt pretty dehydrated. But, other than that I really enjoyed myself here! I would recommend it!
