2 item combo with rice. Okay sinigang and okay kare kare. I definitely had way better!

I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately it was actually kind of disappointing. This was around 4:30pm (early dinner) and they ran out of fish and they ran out of chicken adobo. Chicken adobo is one the most common Filipino food, how do you run out of that? So I went for the Kare Kare (my favorite) and pork sinigang. Both lacked flavor and both lacked vegetables, just all meat. I asked for shrimp paste for the Kare Kare and she said she didn't have any. Next time I decide I don't want to cook Filipino food, I won't go here. They need to do better! The positive - service was fast and service was nice but it won't be enough for me to come again.

I'm pretty impressed with this place because of the wide selection of authentic Filipino dishes they offer. Served in a cafeteria style, the sisig was delicious with the right amount of onion and spices. Unlike others I have tasted, Dinuguan was not too sour, which I prefer. The pork menudo had that authentic blend - it could have been liver spread as one of the ingridient. The pinakbet with kalabasa brought back some memories of the barrio. They also sell premade Filipino desserts like flan, palitaw, biko, and more. The servers behind the counter were friendly as well. Plenty of seating. Not a fancy place, but excellent authentic food. Must try!!!

This restaurant is located in the University shoppes located to the far left of the strip mall. There is plenty of parking. The interior is spacious with seating cafe style - booths along the wall, cafe 4 top tables in the main area, and more in the adjacent room. There are food items for purchase in the adjacent room and along the wall to the right before ordering at the counter. I informed the staff this was my first time and they were helpful in assisting with food choices and explained the items. I opted for the white rice with 2 entree items. The lumpia were half sized and were great to get a few to try. The food and snack item all cost under $20 which was a bargain and the tray was packed with food. Everything was flavorful and delicious! The staff were helpful and made sure I enjoyed my first visit!

Pictures are taken after we already started eating. Food is served cafeteria style. My boyfriend ordered for me because I didn't know what a lot of the dishes. They also sell premade desserts, sweet Thai chili sauce , vinegar and CD's.i got the pancit and lumpia. The pancit was ok, I'm picky because I am used to my boyfriend's mother making it. Lumpia was good just small but you get 5. Order to go, you get more food in a container. The have a few booths and several table and chairs. Filipino decor. My only main complaint is the amount of styrofoam and plastic that is used. All in all, you get a good amount of food for the price.

If you haven't had authentic Filipino food from the Philippines . You don't worry a bit. Oriental Cuisine Kainan is where you want to get your grub on. Every time I visit Virginia Beach, Virginia. I always gotta have my Lechon kawali, caldereta, pinakbet and some pandesals to go. Great for breakfast the next day. I come here all the time. The food is just like what your mama and Lola use to make. All are very tasty and delicious. You won't be disappointed especially if you miss Filipino cuisine. Affordable and worth the trip! Service is excellente, Ambience is like being in Metro Manila , Philippines

The people here are friendly. Lots of selection for lunch and dessert. The lechon is not too fatty (one thing we can't stand) and everything was delicious. The music playing was nice. Tables were clean. No complaints at all.

Whenever i have to go in the area where Kainan is my kids know we're stopping for lumpia... It was raining hard outside and i was about to just go home. But I'm glad i didn't.. Lol... I went in and ordered 30 lumpia. They're $.33 a piece which is reasonable. They're short lumpia, but they're delicious... Today they were hot and fresh and crispy... I absolutely love the sweet chili sauce that comes with it. I could drink that sauce by itself... Lol... Mmmmm. I also got chicken and pork on a stick, ube biko, and menudo with rice... Somebody's grandma put their foot in that flavorful menudo... It was delicious... It went good with the white rice.. Very filling and tasty... The chicken and pork on a stick were yummy as well. The bbq sauce on them is good... The ube biko is very sticky with just a little sweetness. I liked it but had to get over the texture as it was weird, but thats how its supposed to be.. I'd eat it again even though its not something I'd typically eat. They have several options on the line to choose from. Pansit, fish, vegetables, empanadas, and more. The staff is always nice.. The cashier has been there forever, he's a cool guy.. I like chatting with him, he gets you in and out!! This is the place to go for a quick dinner or lunch and good comfort food.. The prices are reasonable. They also have seating to dine in and offer a buffet.. My family orders from here when we have large gatherings and they always come through for us. If you need lumpia for a party this is the place to get it.. Check them out!! Their one of the best Filipino restaurants in the area..

If you are craving/wanting to try Filipino food, you NEED to come here. It's similar to cafeteria style. They had a lot of traditional Filipino dishes and some that I've never heard of before too. I got the pancit with two entrees last time and it was so much food that you'll probably have enough for two meals. The lechon belly and sisig were so good, so if you don't know what to get, at least get these two. To be honest, I don't think you could go wrong with any of their food items. The pricing was worth it for the amount of food that you get. Definitely try some of their sweets too! I can't wait to come back here again when I'm in the area.

Food was okay! I wanted to like this place but I feel like there wasn't a lot of vegetarian options so I couldn't try too much of the food. I had the shrimp fritter & chop suey with rice. I also had a tofu lumpia sariwa which was alright. The shrimp fritter was cold but I'm sure it would have tasted better if it was hot & crispy. Chopsuey was average. I would have liked the lumpia sariwa if it didn't fall apart. I think it was wrapped in plastic wrap it would have been better. I know it's popular place in the area so I'm sure it's better for meat eaters.

Whenever we are at VA Beach, we stop by Kainan for some of the best filipino food around. The line can get pretty long during lunch but the food is served from the hot bar. For combos, you can choose pancit or rice as a base then one or two entrees. I always get the Lechon, comes out with super crispy skin and stays juicy. They also have Lechon sauce in the front. Sisig is also very good along with the squid if they have it available. Their turon is also really crispy, sweet, and fresh. If you dine in, the combos come with free soup as well. Super reasonable prices on everything with large portions. They also have a decent amount of seating if you want to sit down.

Lechong kawali pork belly slabs deep fried until crispy in a pan seasoned beforehand cooked and served in cubes. accompanied with seeping sauce called sarsa ng lechon (lechong sauce) made from vinegar, liver, soy sauce, calamansi ( Pilipino lemon) Dinuguan Filipino savory stew usually of pork offal and or meat simmered in a rich spicy dark gravy of pig's blood, garlic chili and vinegar. Pork Stew (Menudo) a Filipino pork stew made of pork and sliced liver in tomato sauce with carrots and potatoes. The service is good. They provided all the sauce you need and the staff are courteous. The restaurant is clean including their bathroom. The place had good lighting.

It's been about 4 years since I got carry out lunch from here. Then I recall it wasn't as large of a place, I don't think they had an attached grocery. This time I was so surprised at the selection of turo turo (ala carte point to what you like for your entree - whether you want rice or pancit (noodles), and whether you want 1 or two viands). They had: - lechon kawali (roast pig), - sisig (pork), - menudo, - pinakbet (pork with bitter melon, squash, okra, Asian long green beans (sitaw) - longanisa (sausage) - Dinuguan (pork blood) - sinigang (sour soup), - chicken adobo, - chicken and pork BBQ on skewers - nilaga (boiled meat with veggies), List goes on! For sweets, they had hopia, palitaw, cassava cake, Biko, Kutchinta, maja Blanca (corn starch with sweet corn kernels), turon (fried banana in wrapper), Etc. And yes kababayan, I showed my half Vietnamese side slip by asking if the hopia had durian filling! The wall by where you start lining up to pick your entrees had ALL kinds of Filipino snacks- pork rinds, garlic peanuts, ube flavored filled cookies, clover chips, shrimp crackers, list goes on as well! The food is authentic and great tasting! I ordered pancit with lechon kawali and pinakbet. Yummmmy! Will definitely come back more often..!

We ordered sweet and sour chicken, beef and broccoli, chicken fried rice, and beef lo mein. The beef lo mein noodles were broken into small pieces instead leaving them as long noodles and there were more vegetables than there were noodles. The beef in the beef broccoli had an unusual taste like it had been sitting out for too long and the broccoli and bamboo shoots had a really weird taste that I can't even explain; we didn't finish it. The sweet and sour sauce had a slight flavor akin to some kind of cleaning agent; we just ate the chicken without the sauce. The chicken fried rice was the best out of all of it. They should get rid of the piano player and just play music, even traditional Chinese music, over the speakers. The internal appearance of the place made us think the food and ambience would be somewhat traditional, but it wasn't even close. China Ocean off of Holland has far better Chinese food than Imperial Palace. I will not recommend imperial palace nor returning to eat there. The staff/service was great, especially our waitress Sue.

I'm all for new businesses with a chill vibe and this place has it!…read more Well I found out this place is an extension of the Origami Asian Bistro. The bistro has a lounge/club atmosphere about it, while The Bamboo Room is a restaurant that caters to the brunch crowd. Well to my surprise I had never heard about either place until a few Sunday's ago. Somehow I received word through avenues that an event was taking place here on Sunday, February 11th. I was in the area, but I had already eaten breakfast. Seemingly, I figured I'd check it out because I was super curious. I did have a super hard time locating this place. After driving in circles for 10 minutes, I called the contact number and those directions provided were spot on. I believe the address I had was much different than the address that pulls up when searching for this place. Nevertheless, I am here... I pulled up and I saw at least four others walking ahead of me. I figured ok... traffic... this place must be worth checking out. I took a few pictures before heading inside... upcoming events taking place at Origami... I stepped foot inside and was immediately awestruck by the brow raising aromas of their Sunday brunch! Man, I wish I was a little bit hungry just to give them a try. But again, I was super full, but going by the smell alone, five stars!! Well speaking of stars... I subtracted a half of a star because I cannot vouch for the food because I did not try anything. And the other half of the star is because they did not have WINE! WHAT!!!??? So yeah, a huge blow...but mimosas were featured... at least two kind (a special juice and orange juice). I tried the special juice mimosa...sensational! I exchanged words with the bartender, Niecey, a waitress, Tiana and someone who seemed to oversee everything, Kam. They all were super friendly and forthcoming about everything. Especially the bartender she gave a me a little background on the restaurant and she enlightened me about Origami. Evidently they had an awesome SuperBowl event...she raved about it. And the young man, Kam, handsome fella, he asked a few times if I was ok... southern hospitality I'd say. Just an awesome vibe all throughout my dining in experience. The bartender even offered those sitting at the bar a sample of an alcoholic shot... it was delicious! I think I saw them offer everyone in the restaurant a shot... great hospitality I'd say. Cheers! Music was played through a speaker or two... nice tunes... those sing along type songs. Well I enjoyed it... anything from 80s music to Beyonce! There was a group present celebrating something and they all seemed to be having a great time! The atmosphere at noonish... the place is about 700 square feet and on this day including myself, the restaurant had about 25 guests during Sunday Brunch. I'm excited to return and try the brunch buffet with another mimosa! I recommend if you are in the area on a Sunday to give them a try. They only feature Sunday brunch right now. I believe. Now the Origami Bistro... I am unsure of the hours. But they have events from time to time... The Bamboo Room has spark a super interest... they are on to something! The Bamboo Room is located same shopping center as Ollies off of Virginia Beach Blvd. in Norfolk. Also in the shopping center you'll see, a Chinese Buffet Restaurant and MP Island Restaurant on the opposite end of the Bamboo Room. There is also plenty of parking. But visiting on a Sunday shouldn't present any issues at all. Have fun and enjoy life :)

My friends and I traveled from different cities, so if they were running behind I feel as though they should've let us know. Your reservation is for only an HOUR! the music selection was great, but extremely loud to the point that you couldn't hear the person next to you. The AC and fans were not on in our section, we were extremely hot. The waitress kept forgetting our order of French toast. And she didn't bring it out until we were about to leave. I know we had to have waited for about 45 minutes for her to bring it. Overall this place definitely deserves a 3 out of 5. I will not be returning.

The meals come with sides like kimchi, seasoned cucumbers, broccoli, and what they call mashed potatoes (it tastes more like potato salad and if you like potato salad, you'll like it). I appreciated that the extras were included. We ordered onion rings, and they were delicious very state fair vibes, crispy and flavorful with a good dipping sauce. We also built a customizable cup (more like a rice bowl) with kimchi fried rice, spicy pork, and onions. It was so flavorful that we didn't even need sauce. We tried the kimbap (similar to sushi) and the beef fried dumplings both were really good. Customer service was solid. They greeted us right away, walked us through the menu, and let us know ahead of time that the fried chicken would take about 15 minutes. Everything else came out quickly. I also loved that they have pictures on the menu and displayed up front. As someone new to Korean food, that made it feel welcoming and easier to order. Overall, 10/10. Great food, good service, no complaints.
