Halo Halo
Kelsey M.

I recently went here for the first time since it got renovated, and the updated space is super cute. Definitely an aesthetic and Instagram worthy spot to sit down and enjoy Filipino food :) As for the food, the palabok wasn't quite to my taste. The flavor was fine, but the sauce felt heavy and soupy. It felt like the noodles were just drowning in the sauce :( The menudo was solid, no complaints here. The halo halo was a delicious classic desert, but I really wish they topped it with ube ice cream instead of vanilla ice cream, like a lot of other spots do! Still a great spot to buy Filipino food! Recommend trying their BBQ skewers :)

Great atmosphere and friendly service!! I ordered a 2-entree dish of vegetable soup and chicken curry and chicken adobo. It was absolutely delicious!! Highly recommend this place for authentic Filipino cuisine.

Colorful location, can't miss it!

Wow, the long remodel was definitely worth it. It is beautiful in here! Unfortunately that is where the goodness ended. Food was ok but not like I remember it. The portions seemed smaller and the employees not as friendly. My wife ordered a halo halo and it lacked any real sweetness. We were there an hour before closing and they were already vacuuming, putting chairs on tables, etc. not a great welcoming experience for people that wanted to eat in. Maybe they had to start new employees after the remodel and they will get better.

Great food and service. As far as filipino food goes, this is my absolute go-to! Very authentic and the prices are affordable. They recently renovated and the inside is so beautiful and modern!

I really enjoyed my meal here. I got Pancit with Chicken Adobo and two pieces of Lumpia. It was clean, well lit and comfortable. The bathrooms were nice and clean too. Also the workers there were very helpful. Highly recommend!

FeLynn is definitely a hidden gem to most in the area! I've been in the 757 all of my life and I'd never been here! Best Filipino food in VA Beach, BY FAR!! Everything I tasted had flavor & the food was reasonably priced along with the portion sizing! I'd also like to add on about their speedy service! On a separate visit I needed 100 beef lumpia for a party, cooked. I went in and they cooked all 100 pieces in about 10 minutes! Best Lumpia in VA Beach, as well. My other top lumpia spot is China house in Norfolk (bromley), but FeLynn's is just sooo tasty and made with Love. Please check them out!

Hits the spot!! Came here for Filipino breakfast but was too late and learned it ends at 10am when I dropped by on a Saturday. No worries their line was full of delicious dishes for lunch so I started to order. I got their beef soup (nilaga) and the pork steak with onions and rice. The soup was so good, I should have gotten two bowls. It definitely hit the spot especially on a cold day like it was. The staff was friendly and patient especially in trying to decide what to get. The restaurant was big and clean. There are plenty of tables to eat at if you choose to eat there. I made note of their breakfast times and went back again this past weekend. Made it in time for breakfast and got the corned beef, longanisa, eggs and fried rice. It was so good and so filling. I couldn't finish my order. Great value for the price considering you get so much food. Be sure to check them out for all your favorite Filipino dishes!

1 Star more like no star smfh What Happened to Captain K?!…read more I used to LOVE Captain K. Like... this was a childhood staple for me. My grandparents would take me there all the time growing up. The food was always fresh, hot, and flavorful -- the type of seafood that made you sit back and hum while eating. And the customer service? Top tier. Friendly faces, quick service, and a warm vibe like family. Fast forward to today I walked in expecting to feel a little nostalgic and maybe even bring back a piece of my childhood. What I got instead was a horror show. First red flag: I instantly realized it's under new management. The energy was cold, like I had walked into a place that didn't even want to be open. No greeting. No smile. The light-skinned girl behind the counter had an attitude like I was bothering her just by existing. Short answers, eye rolls girl, you work here, not me. Then the food. Lawd. My fries were limp, undercooked, and soggy like they were dropped in oil and pulled out 30 seconds later. The fish? RAW. Not just undercooked -- I mean damn near swimming. It was cold and slimy inside. DISGUSTING. Now let's talk about the line staff. Dirty uniforms, no gloves, no hairnets. I saw one of them scratching his neck and then going right back to touching food like that was normal. I literally lost my appetite standing there watching it. The kitchen looked like it hadn't been cleaned since Obama was in office. This ain't the Captain K I grew up on. This place went from a neighborhood gem to a straight-up health code violation. I wouldn't recommend this spot to my worst enemy. I left with a refund and a promise to never come back. Grandparents would be ashamed of what this place has become. DO BETTER

The place is huge and I'm ashamed to say I thought it would just be crappy but I was totally blown away by the food the size of the place the waitresses were pretty good. There was one or two that we called a couple of times and just they walked right past us and one had the audacity to say "it's not my department" she deliberately walked right by us and she was a waitress no less so another waitress saw that and came and helped us and I know (because I was a waitress myself once years ago) that it gets busy and crazy but at least say to the customer paying the $25 per person that I'll be right with you. Don't just walk right by the customer tables! Back to the food... the king crab legs are delicious, but mine were cold and not completely cooked. The new waitress actually went and got me some more hot cooked crab legs but the other food was amazing, too. Everything in there was amazing. I actually walked out of there and I was very impressed and a "happy camper"!!! King crab legs are only served from Friday to Sunday evening. I believe that if anyone goes in the Ocean Grill & Seafood restaurant you'll also come out very impressed. AREAL IMPORTANT thing I'm going to point out to everyone is that they are one of a very few open bars who actually keep up with replacement of all the food sitting on the bars for the customers and I LOVE that and I certainly hope they keep it up without raising their prices. p. s. It's best to separate your food, because seafood and sushi cost more. So separate your boxes because it adds up quickly. Put regular items in one box and the more expensive stuff in another. They had crab legs, shrimp, chicken, sushi, Mongolian bbq, rice, fruit, ice cream, and more. Some of the food looked like it had been sitting a bit. But the selection seemed nice. Normally I stick to the same foods to be safe, because I'm slightly picky. The rolls are the best thing there. They're so soft and buttery. The chicken wings were bland but still ok. They were battered and fried good. The coconut chicken was ok, but if you have texture issues it'll get the best of you. The Mongolian bbq was pretty good. They have thin slices of meat, veggies, eggs, and sauces. Then the gentleman cooks it on the grill in front of you. That dollar makes him holler honey boo boo, so make sure to tip him!! Lol. 2 plates cost $30+ so I was a little bit like dang. Because I was being very cautious of what I got to stay under my budget. But my budget had already said bye Felicia! Lol. So I got over it. The staff is friendly and I like all the options they have. I don't see me returning for the buffet anytime soon, but I'd go back for the Mongolian bbq. Check them out!!

La Oficina Steakhouse and Cantina is located in the Market Square Shopping Center along Virginia…read moreBeach Blvd. This is the same shopping center where Hobby Lobby is located, but they are at the other end of the shopping center. My most recent visit here was on January 23, 2026. I've seen this place several times as I have gone with my mom to Hobby Lobby. It caught my attention again to try this place when they were listed as a part of the 2026 Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. This is what ultimately got me to get in and try them out. The outside of the place is similar to other places next to the business, but they are very easy to spot. On each of my visits here, I didn't encounter any issues with parking and such, so there seems to be ample parking available. When my mom and I first came in, we were immediately greeted and were able to get a table immediately. I wasn't sure what it would be at first since I saw stuff about reservations. This first visit was on January 21, 2026. Once we were seated, our server came to the table to ask us what we wanted to drink. I did the water with lemon, and my mom went for a Coke, though the Coke never came to the table during this first visit. In the end, that was no big deal. Since we were here specifically for the restaurant week, we stuck to that menu that evening. For the appetizer, I went with the Picanha Empanadas. For the main entree, I went with the 8 oz Filet Mignon with Green Beans and Queso De Mano as my two sides. For the dessert, I sure did go for the Rum Crème Brulée. My mom ended up doing the same thing on this first visit. A few minutes after ordering, the Empanadas came to the table. This came with an olive mayo chimichurri for dipping. The empanadas and the chimichurri complemented each other very well. The taste was amazing too. A few minutes before the entrees would come out, our server came over and put some hot sauce and chimichurri sauce at the table to use. When the entrees came out, they looked really good, and they were hot, so it took a few moments to start. I started with the green beans, and they had such a great flavor to them. By the time I finished that, it was time to indulge in the Filet Mignon. I had ordered it on medium, and it was cooked perfectly. This is not something I have often, but this was awesome. The flavor paired with the chimichurri sauce made it an enjoyable entree. I finished off the main course with the Queso De Mano cheese. This was a very flavorful cheese. The last course was the Rum Crème Brulée. It was quite the surprise when the server came with a blowtorch to go over the top of the dessert. This dessert was the ultimate indulgence for me as I don't normally do these types of foods. The experience was so good that we decided to come back a few days later, on January 23, 2026. I would end up getting the same set of items since it was still restaurant week, but we also ordered the Guacamole appetizer since we were there during happy hour. The chips and guacamole were amazingly good. You can tell it was made fresh. My mom got the Picanha Burger this time. I can say she really liked the burger. Overall, these were two excellent experiences during the restaurant week. The food and service were great with no major issues. One thing I want to note is that they do charge a 3.5% fee if you use a card to pay instead of cash. If you're looking for a unique type of steakhouse, this place is absolutely worth checking out.

We had three servers approach our table to get our drink order until one of the three settled on being our server. Odd. I ordered their Filet Mignon and it came with two sides. I picked boiled yucca and asparagus. (Note: Asparagus and Green Beans were the only vegetable option.) They seemed to have a dedicated staff for delivering food to the tables, but they brought the wrong order to our table at first. Thankfully, it was a quick turnaround for the right order. We may have waited fifteen minutes tops for our food after placing our order. Not bad for a busy place. I got my steak rare (the only way to eat a steak) and it came out perfectly. It even had hints of flavor from the grill. Know what I mean? My yucca was okay. Not excited about the pickled onions on top (it didn't say that on the menu) which I scrapped off. It was seasoned lightly with butter and salt. My asparagus was crisp and delicious. Anytime I cook it at home it gets mushy, yet theirs was spot on. The restaurant itself was a bit dark inside, and decorated with a country-western vibe. (I remember when it was a karaoke bar, RIP!) The service could have been better, but their food is a good enough reason for us to return.

One cook had extremely long locs that hung past his waist and wasn't wearing a hair net, while the other staff member was properly covered with gloves, apron, and a hair net. Even so, no one washed their hands after moving between tasks--handling raw items, pulling food from the fryer, and even touching the register. The most alarming moment was when a customer walked in from outside, went straight behind the counter, began talking loudly near the food, and was never asked to wash her hands, put on gloves, or step away. This was extremely unsanitary and should never happen in any food establishment. As for the environment, the floors and counters didn't look clean, and the setup leaves customers watching every misstep with no separation between prep and front area. Definitely some health department red flags. On a positive note, the food itself was cooked well--I ordered fish and fries, and the other item was a fish sandwich. Prices were reasonable, but overall the sanitation issues overshadowed everything. This is not a place I plan to revisit.

Each time I drive south on Kempsville Road I have tried to locate it but failed. Today after visiting my favorite ice cream spot I decided on an early dinner and set my GPS for the restaurant's address. To my surprise it was extremely visible, sitting right at the entrance to Kemps River Crossing Shopping Center. Turn into the entrance from Kempsville Road and you'll see it sitting directly on the right. It was early. So we were able to immediately get a comfortable table and extremely prompt service. Our server remembered all my special needs. She answered my fiend's questions about her preferred wine choice. Our drinks were served very quickly. The menu was extremely interesting. There were different sections for differing tastes. The Lunch/Dinner Menu has sections for Sandwiches, Soups & Salads, Small Plates, Signature Burgers, Tavern Pizza & European Comfort Foods. The latter was where my interest lay. It was a really hard choice since I could easily have ordered many of the dishes on the menu. How could I choose between the British, German & Irish entrees? After much agonizing I finally chose German. My Jägerschnitzel, a German classic, consisted of hand-flattened pork loin fried and topped with traditional onion and mushroom gravy. It was served with kraut, warm potato salad, and green beans. The large portions were perfectly prepared. I was pleased with the choice. My friend ordered the other dish I had considered: Magners® Corned Beef & Beer Braised Cabbage which consisted of Magners® cider marinated USDA corned beef brisket, slow-cooked and thinly sliced in house, paired with braised cabbage and bacon, chive whipped potatoes, and whole carrots. This will be my choice the next time I visit. The food came very quickly. In fact, too quick. I like a little time to linger over my cocktail before the food arrives. I've now learned that next time I'll wait a little longer to give the server my order. Park Lane Tavern exuded the air of a happy place. I'm not quite sure how to describe it. It's a cross between a restaurant, tavern or very large comfortable diner. The closest restaurant I've found to this was a large cozy similar type establishment on the Jersey Shore, which was obviously a hangout for locals in the off season. The only thing missing at Park Lane was their roaring fire. But Park Lane has the better menu choices. There are distinctively different sections. We were in a section that consisted of regular tables and chairs, which is ideal for those of us with bad backs and titanium knees. :). But there were no televisions in the area. There were sections of high top tables, booths and large inviting looking bars. Televisions showing sports were visible in most sections. I'd like to try one of the different sections closer to the bar rather than to be immediately taken to the more comfortable section, obviously their section in which to seat people my age.:) After dinner I did a little research on the tavern. The establishment was designed to feature the elements of a European Tavern or Pub. It has succeeded well in replicating that feel. It offers the best of both American and European cuisine. The group, which also has Taverns in Hampton & Fredericksburg, features unique beverage offering with an extensive selection of draughts from around the world. In my opinion they have completely succeeded in their goal of providing atmosphere, design, cuisine and comfort. I can't wait to return and try the Corned Beef & Cabbage.
