Everything bagel steak and egg sandwich
    Anthony M.

NY Bagel Cafe is one of the best places to get bagels in Virginia Beach. The taste instantly took me back to classic bagels you'd find in New Jersey or New York. I ordered a steak and egg sandwich on an everything bagel, and it was fantastic . The customer service is outstanding, and the atmosphere makes a good place to kick back and relax and enjoy a meal. I highly recommend giving NY Bagel Cafe a try!

Not my best experience, normally the staff is GREAT! But one person can ruin the experience. The plump Caucasian lady with the died hair working the cash register and answering the phone needs to be assigned a different job. I called in after placing my order on line and was out on hold for 8 minutes. Called back on the way to the restaurant arrived, still on hold no one in line, I was told the line was out the door, she exaggerated! Seems she just can't multi task. And she is not the normal one on the register but is your the front facing person. Wonder how call in orders lost due to her. Well I got more order and I'll try again next week.

Smell of in house fresh baked bagels fill the air as you enter. Seating for 8 is available but mostly friendly for takeout order. Ordered hungry man's breakfast on jalapeño and cheddar bagel and spinach, feta and egg white on egg bagel, both toasted. Packaged to go in paper bag. Service to take your order at counter is quick but wait of 20 minutes.

Little sausage portion on the breakfast sandwich

The bagels were huge, flavorful, fluffy and soft. The prices are fair and portions were fine. We visited on a Sunday morning and ordered a breakfast sausage, egg, and cheese bagel, a breakfast platter (2 eggs, bacon, hashbrowns), and six bagels. It took 30 minutes to receive our order!!!! 30 minutes for what seemed like it could have been a drive through order at Dunkin next door! To be fair - They DID tell us at check out that it would be around that wait time, but my head cannot understand why it takes that long, even with a line ... we could have sat down at a proper breakfast place and had a better hot meal for around the same price. (Their breakfast sandwich's sausage portion was kind of sad) There is seating available but keep in mind most people are sitting waiting or standing around the lobby instead of actually eating their food inside. I would definitely come back for their bagels but skip any hot food that needs to be cooked or prepared a la carte.

Cute lil spot to grab a bite. I've been craving a good bagel for the past week, and finally had the time to go get one. I got there about 30-40 minutes before closing, and placed my order 10 minutes after that. Their menu all sounded really good, but I went for what I had been wanting for a while, which is lox. I got in on a plain bagel seeing as they were close to closing and there wasn't a ton of options. I also just wanted to see how good their basic was. I got it toasted with their lox cream cheese spread, and it took about 5 minutes maybe? Very quick, which I appreciated. I was also the only one in the cafe, so I suppose it would be quick considering the circumstances. I immediately got to work in the car, since I had places to be and they had already put all the chairs up, and it was a lot! It was a good size bagel, and lots of cream cheese, which I LOVE!! However, this was very dense and rich and a bit one note, like it needed something fresh to go with like cucumber slices or lettuce to break through it a bit. I ate half and was pretty full, and later added cucumber to the other half, which did help. The bagel itself was warm and crisped up a little, good bouncy bread. The staff were also friendly and chill while ordering, and I definitely plan to be back. I highly recommend if you're craving a bagel, price is right and food is nice!

Just moved to the area, first time at this place, great experience! The lady that took my order was positive and friendly. I ordered a BEC on an Asiago bagel. It hit just right, hot and fresh. I look forward to coming back often! You need to try it!

I ordered a cheddar cheese and jalapeño bagel with two eggs and cheddar cheese. a cheddar cheese and jalapeño bagel with chives cream cheese. One of the best bagels I've had in Virginia Beach and I am glad I found it and will be coming back again. Inside of the store is super adorable. Run don't walk to try this place.

I grew up in Montreal, so I grew up with a different kind of bagel, the best kind. I can't find Montreal bagels around these parts, so the bagels at NY Bagel Cafe seems like the next best thing! Taking into consideration the type of bagels I find in America (huge, dense and tiny hole), these were pretty good. I heard the family is from upstate, so that is already a good start, considering New Yorkers are known for their bagels. For my first visit, I ordered a breakfast bagel with egg, bacon, mozzarella on an everything bagel, toasted. Wow, this bad boy was pretty generous in size and I was stuffed by the end. I should have saved half and saved the other half for later. BUT, there it wasn't. It was gone. Again, for an American bagel, the exterior of the bagel had a nice outer crust, crispy with a nice, even distribution of the everything seasoning. Asking them to toast the bagel for the sandwich was definitely a nice move. The interior of the bagel is dense and chewy. If you squeeze the bagel, it had a nice bounce to it. The egg was cooked perfectly, over hard (but just cooked enough without it being rubbery), bacon crispy and the mozz had just melted enough. I also ordered a baker's dozen to take home, a mix of jalapeno cheddar, everything, sesame, blueberry and French Toast. I really appreciated the fact that they wrapped the French Toast in parchment paper before adding it to the baker's dozen. They definitely get bonus points for that. It is dusted with some powdered sugar, so it's a nice gesture to be like "before you ask, we thought of it already, here's your sweet bagel not touching your savory ones". It will take me awhile to get through the baker's dozen, even with help. The bagels are so large, I can only get through one half at a time. So, before they grow moldy, I already halved them some of them and froze them. Hope they freeze well! Stay tuned... Things to note: - during my visit, it was pretty busy. I think they have online ordering so try that if you're in a hurry. - limited seating. I saw 3 tables of which all were occupied. It's a pretty compact space for their kitchen and seating, so the tables seemed out of place with the long line forming. - they have a pretty good variety of flavors, but they make limited amounts of each, so if it's sold out, try again tomorrow. Enjoy, Friends and never stop exploring!

Blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese
    Phi H.

Super kind & hard working employees. The bagel was overall 6.5/10 based on flavor. It was beautiful to look at, that's for sure. Not much taste of the blueberry in the bagel (maybe because of the cream cheese) but there also wasn't a strong taste of strawberry either which was weird given that it seemed to be fresh berries in it. My boyfriend LOVEEEEEED his bacon egg & cheese. He gave it a 9.5/10

I think we have an addiction to this place. We come at least once a week. Everytime it's just as good. I have tried a lot of different options. My favorite bagel so far is the jalapeno cheddar followed by the everything bagel which can be regular or the egg-based one. We also tried the sweet side of the French toast and the cinnamon raisin. I like the cinnamon raisin a little better. They're bacon is delicious and so is the sausage. I recently tried the turkey bacon which was a close third. My favorite of the cream cheese toppings is the jalapeno one. The chive needed more chives. I'd also like to try the veggie one. My usual is one of two, jalapeno cheddar bagel with egg, American cheese, and bacon or everything bagel with bacon or sausage, spinach, feta, and egg. The bagel sandwiches come with a free cup of coffee as a bonus. The condiments for the coffee are a little limited but you can always take it home and add your own. The shop is pretty small so we take it to go. You can also get any omelette as a sandwich or wrap. I'd like to try some of their lunch options but their breakfast is so darn good!

    Bagel with top not toasted.

This is the closest mom and pop shop near me for bagels. At first they were delicious but then the portions changed. And the staff changed, I never see the same face. So I give them a try every so often to see if it will get better but after this visit it is a no going forward. I ordered several items but my breakfast sandwich ( bacon, egg, and cheese) ...1 piece of bacon for each side of my cut bagel. I asked for extra toasted. It is not toasted at all. They NEVER toast the bagel even when you ask. Even my receipt states heavy toasted. It is ashame because I would rather pay a mom and pop shop than go to corporate store.

OK this place is a legit NY bagel place. Loved it. On a Saturday around 10:00am the place was packed. The line was out the door. Come in and there are a few tables. Most of them were taken by people waiting for their orders. You order and pay at the counter then wait. We got bagels with cream cheese not toasted (because no self respected native NYer would do that). Our order came out quick because most people may have been waiting for breakfast sandwiches. The bagel was great soft in the middle and crispy on the outside. And the cream cheese was the best. Nice and fluffy just like I remember from back home.

    Taylor ham, cheese salt bagel

Disappointing bagel--barely any meat, overpriced at $9. Not worth it. Put more meat on the bagels for that price

Ask the Community - NY Bagel Cafe

When you order a bagel online with flavored cream cheese there is no option to say you want your bagel warmed?

Yes, there's a field where you can put a comment at the bottom that you type in to ask for your bagels to be warmed. I usually ask for my bagels to be sliced and toasted.

Can you please add butter and cream cheese as an option for bagels?

Hello! We will be updating our online menus soon, in the meantime, you can add a note to your online order (or call us) to request both and we will accommodate

Are you no longer making the Asiago bagel? That is my favorite and haven't seen it online in quite awhile now?

Yes we still have asiago bagels. Ill look into all platforms and find out why its not showing up

Do they offer gluten free bagels?

At the moment we do not have gluten free bagels. We plan on having them when we expand in the next year or so and will keep you posted

I have had a few visits here now, and the most recent visit was on January 12, 2026. At the beginning of each new year, I like to try a place that I have never been to before, so January 1, 2026, was the first time I had come here. My mom was with me. Depending on when you come in general, parking can be limited at times with all the other businesses in this shopping center. Upon first look at the place from the outside, you can see the name and logo pretty easily. It looks similar to other places that happen to be in this same shopping center. We got here around 8 am on that first visit. When we came inside, it wasn't too busy yet, likely due to others probably still sleeping after being up past midnight for the new year. The inside of the place has a modern diner type of vibe, which fits the restaurant well. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server Brooke came over pretty quickly and asked us what we would like to drink. I just do my usual of water with lemon, and my mom had gotten coffee. It would take us a little while to choose since there lots of good items to choose from. When she came back to check again, we were ready this time. I figured I'd get something I don't normally do, so I went for the French Toast Combo with scrambled eggs, bacon, and baked apples. My mom decided to go with the Ultimate Skillet with rye toast. The food would come out pretty quick. It was around ten minutes or so. Both breakfast entrees looked really good and they were hot. It felt like an indulgence when I started on the French toast since it has been a long time since having it. The baked apples were great too, and something else I don't normally have. I will note that I didn't get a blood sugar spike after this meal either that day. My mom enjoyed the Ultimate Skillet as much as I did with the French Toast Combo. After the experience from that first visit, we came back to try the lunch/dinner menu options for dinner that day. This visit was on January 12, 2026. After being seated initially, we moved over to a table since the booths were a bit tight. Kellie was our server on this visit. She asked us what we wanted to have to drink, and I went with water with lemon and my mom went with a coke. After taking some time to look over the menu, we were ready to order. My mom decided not to have too much, so she just went with the Loaded Baked Potato side item. I decided to try the Chipotle Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich with the homemade chips as the side. Just like the last time, it took about ten minutes or so for the food to come out. The sandwich I had was really good, and so were the homemade chips. This time, this meal did spike my blood sugar levels, but it was so good. My mom told me afterwards that the loaded baked potato she had come out cold. It was then that we let the server know, and she asked if she wanted to get it redone. She said no but wanted to take it home instead. The server did take off the cost of that item. It was likely due to it sitting before my sandwich was ready to bring them out together. Mom did get a box to bring it home and had it later that evening, and she said it was good when it was heated up at home too. Overall, we have had a few very good experiences here. The food and service were good, and the issue for my mom was handled well too. That shows they truly care about the experience of the visitors here. Both menus may be just two sides, but there is quite a bit to choose from. I think anyone would find something they would like here. There is one thing I want to note when it comes to paying. There is a 3% surcharge added to the total including taxes if you use a credit card instead of cash. In the end, if you are looking for a diner type of place, this one is worth checking out.

The both of us, well three of us if you count the dog, enjoyed our meals. I went with the doggy-style version of the Chicken n Waffles. This take on the classic dish included: a bacon-infused waffle, fried chicken thigh, sausage gravy, candied bacon, and bourbon maple syrup. Overall, I enjoyed the dish with the small exceptions that the batter made the waffle really heavy for my personal tastes. I'm more of a fan of light, fluffy waffles. Unfortunately, I did not know this at the time, but the kitchen puts the syrup on the waffle for you. Personally, I like to add my own syrup because I do not like too much syrup on my waffles (and pancakes). However, those two minor issues did not take away from the dish. Also, the other aspects of the dish made up for those minor inconveniences. My partner ordered the Pongo, which was served with a fried chicken thigh, cheddar biscuit, scrambled egg, sausage gravy, house potatoes. If you are a fan of Bloody Marys, the restaurant has a selection of 4 or 5 interesting Bloody Marys. I went with the Porky's Revenge, which had bacon-infused vodka, Zing Zang Bloody Mary mix and a bacon-dusted rim. Both of us were quite pleased with our selections. Also, come here hungry because the serving sizes are quite large. Because of the large serving sizes, I thought the prices were relatively fair compared to other places the area. Actually, I would change "fair" to "generous". Both of our dishes were about 17 bucks with the 4ish dollar 'doggy style' add on. Generally speaking, our waitress was really on the ball. Although we were sitting outside, she frequently checked in us and was very professional while being funny. Hopefully, we can make another stop here during our next Va. Beach vacation adventure.

I always find the hair of the dog such a great place to eat. Great drinks. Great food. Happy stuff…read more I got the chicken and waffle, which was a fried chicken thigh with bacon infused waffle. Oh man, I should've gotten the extra sausage gravy because it is such a sin. Great vibes here in this location.
