This is always a fun game to attend around the new year. We are fortunate here in the Valley to be a part of the college playoff bowl system. The Fiesta Bowl has been in existence since 1971 and was hosted by Sun Devil Stadium until they moved to State Farm Stadium in 2007. There have been a handful of college national champions decided at this bowl. In 1998, the Fiesta Bowl hosted the first BCS National Championship Game. Out of all the teams in college football, Ohio State has made more appearances than any other team. I attended my first Fiesta Bowl in 1997 when I received free tickets to the game. Since 2000, I have been a Fiesta Bowl season ticket holder and have attended almost every game since then with my good friend from college. I also at times volunteer to be a balloon handler in the Fiesta Bowl parade. I love the Fiesta Bowl organization and all the charity work that they do in this community. They are currently sponsored by Playstation. They used to be sponsored by Tostitos and we would get a free chips and salsa when we attended the game. One of my favorite things to do is to tailgate in the parking lot and party with fans that travel here from other schools. There have been so many memorable games over the years. One of the most memorable games I attended was the 2003 BCS title game in which Ohio St beat Miami in double overtime. It is also nice to look back and see how many future NFL stars I have seen play in the Fiesta Bowl over the years like Andrew Luck, Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, Trevor Lawrence & Joe Borrow. This year, #9 Penn State was selected to play in the Fiesta Bowl vs #11 Washington. Coming in, Penn State was the favorite and playing with Marcus Allen, Jason Cabinda, DaeSean Hamilton, Mike Gesicki and possibly Saquon Barkley for the last time. To give them an amazing farewell, our fans traveled well! The Nittany Lions started off strong, with a beautiful Trace McSorley pass to DaeSean Hamilton for a 48 yard touchdown! Later, Penn State's success continued as they drove straight down the field for a Saquon Barkley touchdown to make it a 14-0 Penn State lead. When the game looked like it was all Penn State, Washington responded with a trick play that took them down to the 10 yard line. Eventually, Jake Browning snuck in for a touchdown, to get Washington on the board. However, when momentum looked like it was shifting Washington's way, Penn State responded with a Mike Gesicki third-down conversion and a DeAndre Thompkins catch on the 1 yard line, which lead to a Miles Sanders touchdown. Eventually, Penn State got the ball back on their own 8 yard line and it was time for Saquon Barkley to make his mark. He found a hole and was off and running 92 yards to the house to make it a 28-7 Penn State lead! Penn State was able to get the ball again and have a chance to put the game way, but a costly fumble lead to a Myles Gaskin score. Eventually, half-time came and went and Washington got the ball. They then went on to drive down the field for a touchdown to make it a one-score game. However, Trace McSorley lead Penn State right down the field for a DaeSean Hamilton back shoulder touchdown catch to put Penn State up 35-21! Penn State had another chance to put the game away with the ball in the red-zone, but McSorley had another unlucky interception, which lead to a long Myles Gaskin score. Washington was within one touchdown again. Penn State once again drove down the field up by one touchdown and had a chance to put the game away with a Tyler Davis field goal, but from 45 yards away, he pulled it. Luckily, Washington had no time outs and only 30 seconds to score. With 15 seconds left, Jake Browning converted a fourth-down, but a hook and later lead to a fumble recovered by Brandon Smith!!! Fiesta Bowl - Stadiums & Arenas Near Me - Glendale, Arizona

So much fun! Once upon a time a very long time ago when I first moved here I was actually in the Fiesta Bowl. Times have changed and this bowl game and events are huge now. I do a lot of work within the local community and the Fiesta Bowl is very involved in Local Az charity, schools and locals. I have been marching in the parade the last few years with a community band. I always have so much fun. This year it was a bit rough since it was a 22 hour day. I marched the parade then ran down to work at the stadium and catch the game. Everyone was wonderful from the Fiesta Bowl committee members, the game was amazing, good vibes. I was tired afterwards but definitely memorable times. It is a large event and this year it was oversold due to the championship game and popular teams. They actually added more seats. They also opened the doors early so it takes a lot to put it on. Can it be better? I suppose. I heard they had some ADA shuttle issues but I am sure they will fix that for next year. In the meantime, if you go, bring your patience and enjoy all the local, weeklong events. The Fiesta Bowl is one of the greatest college football events I've ever been to. Everything from the organization of the pre-game tailgate parties, to the execution of the parking before/after the game is well done. Not to mention that the football is great too. There are 2 large tailgate party areas that are part of the event. The "College Football's Largest Tailgate" is the area most people go to and costs $30 to get in. Food and Beverage is not included with the ticket price. You have to purchase that with cash at bars and food stations once you get in. It's on a concrete lot and there's plenty of tables and seating areas. There are several areas where corporate sponsors host games and interactive booths. Both were awesome to watch. We watched both from a suite on the 200 level, which were perfect for viewing. In this year's Fiesta Bowl, there were plenty of empty suites, so I suggest inquiring about getting one if you ever plan to come out and watch your favorite team. The Fiesta Bowl in Tempe got sooo popular that they sponsored another one in Glendale AZ this year. It got my creative juices flowing and now I'm trial ballooning an idea to you Yelpers **** Football needs an Asian themed bowl!! **** If it were Vietnamese, it'd be a Pho-Nam-Enal Bowl If it were Japanese (or Hawaiian), it'd be a Pearl Harbor / Snack Attack Bowl. if it were Cantonese, it'd be an Endless Rice bowl If it were Korean, it'd be a Spicy Christian Bowl OR I'd have it right here in Palo Alto (the Stanford Stadium-Go Jim Harbaugh!) and invite the two highest academic all-American teams. I'd use a complicated formula that's similar to the BCS poll and input characteristics like avg time to graduate, pctng of self financed tuition, weighted difficulty of courses, avg salary offerings upon graduation, and standardized testings. This Oriental Bowl would be sponsored by Princeton Review, McGraw Hill, Miller Lite and Apple Computer. Chino Bandito and Beard Papas could cater it. We'd fly in 1,500 mainlander students and have the first marching Orchestra half-time show. Maybe when the Oriental Bowl gets popular enough, we can host the a sister bowl at Cal Berkeley OR SJ State. Any ideas on the name of this Bowl?? read more

OU LOST! OU LOST! OU LOST! This makes me very giddy! Just for the Sooners losing, I give the Fiesta Bowl 5 stars. Ok, so maybe Glendale and the actual bowl had nothing to do with West Virginia's victory. I understand that. It's logical to point that out. I get it. I just don't care. OU LOST! OU LOST! OU LOST! I enjoy the fact that so many Sooners turned up at the Insight Bowl to prance their team colors around. I love it that they wore those same colors to the Fiesta Bowl only to lose! The Fiesta Bowl ticket office staff is truly outstanding! They have always worked very with season ticket holders on accounts and season ticket upgrades. I have had calls with several staff members and all of them are have provided great customers service. I have been a season ticket holder for the Cardinals, Dbacks, and Suns, and the Fiesta Bowl staff is by far the best to work with in the past. Keep up the great work! read more
