Best steak tips in the world. Can't say I've had a bad meal here. Excellent drink and service too.

New ownership is turning this place around. The service is good...really good. Our bartender came to our table, took our order and made us very strong drinks. The chef brought our meal and was happy to chat with us about it. I had the Greek salad with steak tips. I was very happy with my meal...the steak tips are some of the best around. Very tender and the marinade is delicious. The only reason for the loss of a star is the smokers outside at the door. You have to walk through their cloud of stink to get in. Horrible service. Food is never cooked to order. Racist waitstaff was hired. Restaurant manager was completely unprofessional. Stared at my girlfriend and did not look me in the eye as I gave a complaint. If you're looking for some cheap food, to wait in line and to scramble for parking then this is the place for you. We've lived in Beverly for 13 years and had never tried Fibber McGee's (I think it used to be called Cracker's) until last night. We had always assumed that it was just another dive bar with mediocre food, but my wife and I had a really good experience here. It has an inviting, cozy atmosphere, the service was very good, and although we only had burgers, they were great and the sides of onion rings were hand-made rather than those awful frozen things. Best of all, they made me a perfectly-crafted Maker's Mark Manhattan. I'll mention my wife's 2 criticisms - she was surprised that they had no Shiraz offering (this is offset by their extensive beer menu), and her burger bun was over-toasted. This is the reason for the 4 stars - I had a 5 star experience and my wife's was a "3." We'll definitely go back and try some of the other menu offerings. read more

I totally enjoy the atmosphere of this lay back neighborhood bar and eatery.The appetizers, take your pick, are all quite yummy and the entres are presented well, hot if they are supposed to be, and delectable. I'm a fan because they have the best flavors/sauces on the chicken wings. Go on a Tuesday night and they offer 39 cent wings, it doesn't get better than that. The wings are amazing, the service is fast and efficient. The waitresses are polite and responsive. The wait is never more than 10 minutes and the place is always full even on weekdays. My friends and I were very surprised by the lack of customer service from the moment we walked in. I understand and expect to have to wait a while for a drink when the bar is busy. So we were standing there patiently waiting, but the staff seemed to be more interested in socializing then paying attention to their guests. They refused to even look up at the bar. To my knowledge, when you bartend, your goal should be to PAY attention to your guests. It took 10 minutes, and 3 other bar guests helping us by flagging a bartender down so we could get served. It took so long, so we decided to sit at a table. We had to ask our server to close out our tab at the bar for us because we could not get the attention of a bartender. The rest of the night went well. We enjoyed the fried pickles, and our server was very nice and attentive. There was a wonderful bouncer who politely told us they were closing up. We informed him that we were leaving with someone who was part of the band, and they needed to get their things. As we were gathering our things, the male bartender with a shaved head said, "If you're in the band you can stay, but everybody else, get out now!" We informed him that we were doing just that. He responded with, "I don't care who you are, or what you're doing, get out!" (It wasn't even late at this point, there were still people drinking at the bar with the staff.) We told him there was no need talk to us that way, and it was completely uncalled for. His response? "Shut the F*CK up." I politely told him that there's no need to be speaking that way, and again, he responded with "Shut the F*CK up." Another bartender told him to calm down, apologized to us, and we headed for the door. I don't want to be in a place one second longer where someone is behaving that way. It's usually the drunk patrons that are aggressive, not the staff! The bouncer apologized to us on the way out and we left. Never to come back again. I had worked in the service industry for 10 years, and I have dealt with some pretty angry people. But I have NEVER ever spoken to a guest that way. And I have never experienced a grown man telling three women to "SHUT THE F*CK UP," when they politely ask him not to speak that way. I am not only offended by the lack of customer service, but the complete disrespect for women that I experienced tonight. So if you want to try some delicious fried pickles, with a side of man aggression, then this is the place for you. If not, steer clear. I think it's time for a customer service class for your disgruntled bartender before he runs more guests away. read more

Iv'e been a loyal customer for over five years but after last night I will never give Fibber McGee's my business again. To give some context, two weeks ago I went to Fibbers with a group of friends to enjoy some half price burgers. After waiting almost two hours we finally received our food. This was after several other customers whom entered after us were already served. I can honestly say our waitress was the worst I have ever experienced in my life . She was not attentive at all and when we confronted her about the wait she offered no apology. Based on her lack of service and the absurd wait we decided to pay the bill and leave her a small tip ($2). Flash forward to last night, I enter the bar with a friend and as soon as we sit down the same waitress runs over with the same bill form the previous Wednesday screaming and yelling that we were short $10. I try to explain to her that we did indeed pay the full amount and she must be mistaken. She and the bartender ( red head) verbally berated my friend and I making us severally uncomfortable as she insulted us and questioned our character. They demanded we pay the $10 or we would not be served, at that point we decided to leave because we had in fact payed our previous bill. I have several friends in the food service industry that would never address a customer as rudely as that waitress and she should be fired for her lack of professionalism. There are plenty of other great restaurants in the Beverly/Salem area worth trying out and Fibber McGee's is not one of them. read more

I love this place. My friends will go at least once a week. They have trivia night on wednesdays which is always fun and wing night on tuesdays which is fun even though I dont eat meat. The DJ on thursdays and fridays is okay, but he refuses to take requests and overall places some... interesting... music choices. It would be 5 stars if it werent for him. I go to Fibber's every Wednesday for half-priced burgers. The burgers are amazing! Different specials every week and the chef gets creative. A few words of warning though: You probably won't get your burger cooked exactly the way you want it. My mediums come rare and well done. Don't opt for half fries/onion rings. Have a friend get one and you get the other...they charge an extra dollar and you don't get many of either. The bartenders tend to be very nice and competent, but the waitresses are not very good. Even though my friends and I come every week, one of them still acts like she has no idea who were are and IDs us every time. So, if you want a good experience at Fibber's, sit at the bar and get a half-priced special burger on Wednesdays. read more

The food is great here. The staff behind the bar is a bit of a bore but it's a decent atmosphere. The waitresses are really nice but when it gets busy you can wait a while in between beers/ Does anyone know what the band's name is that plays there? They are an acoustic duo and play covers. We've gone here a few times to watch the Pat's and try to like it but the bartenders have attitudes as does much of the wait staff, except for one who is short with long black hair, only nice one. Cocktail menu undesirable and not well executed, stick w/beer. Only get the wings... Potato skins, spinach salad - wilted, fried avocado bland, fried pickles good, ribs dry. The food is borderline fair. Crowd friendly and lots of tv's although games are played at deafening volume. Given this place enough chances, wanting to like and make a steady but it just doesn't cut the mustard. read more

Great bar, great food, great staff. Rib night is as good as it gets, every Thursday. Excellent food, large ribs, only a $1 a piece. They serve late (til 11). The bartenders are friendly and make great drinks quickly. Prices are very reasonable. Tuesday night is wing night - same sauces as ribs but chicken. The rest of the menu is great as well. Fibber's is the perfect type of bar. Great neighborhood pub that serves good food and drink, decently priced with friendly staff, all in unpretentious atmosphere (all qualities that are hard to come by today). This place recently changed ownership (used to be called Fish Hill Tavern) and is now called "Fibber McGees". I had eaten at Fish Hill in the past and was never impressed, and figured since it had changed ownership, that possibly, the cuisine had improved. Boy, was I wrong! It's actually worse off now! I should have known going in when I saw the same staff and cook working that the only thing that had changed was the actual business name. The menu is pretty standard with wings, burgers, fish & chips, salads, etc., and if the pricing was more inline with pub fare, I could understand that the food wouldn't be five-star , but this place is pretty pricey for a pub, and again, not very good. People in the past have told me that this place is just good as a watering hole and to stay away from the food; and now I know why. While the actual bar is well designed, the place is cold and always dark (even in the middle of the day). You literally need a flashlight to see your food. The food is pretty much flavorless, often arrives cold, and is certainly not worth the price. On a side note, they do have .35 cent wing night on either Tuesday or Wednesdays, but in talking with the Bartender, was told that unless you get there by 4:30 PM on that day, you can forget about getting a seat, and they don't serve food unless you have a seat. The customer service is awful, and your food order often takes forever to come out of the kitchen, regardless of how busy it is, and often times, you have to wait forever to get a refill on your drinks. They definitely don't pay attention to simple details like having a drink in front of you. I was pretty offended the last time that a friend and I went in that when I left a standard 15% tip on the bill that the bartender looked at us with evil in her eyes. A tip is a reward for good service and food, and I was generous in leaving the 15% considering that she really didn't deserve it. Certainly didn't appreciate the "evil eye" look that we received. This place has a prime location in Beverly, and could be a huge money maker, but not with food like this. And, they no longer have brunch on weekends, which probably would be a good money maker, considering that there's not a whole lot of places in Beverly that still have brunch on weekends. What is happening to Beverly? Thank goodness there are a few good restaurants left. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking to eat. For good pub fare and more, try the Anchor Restaurant down the street, which has great food and is really reasonably priced! And, you'll feel good about leaving a 15% or more tip with no "evil eye" in return! read more

I have been going here for wings every Tuesday night for about six months with at least 5-6 friends. I don't drink alcohol or soda so I just get water while each one of my friends ALWAYS gets multiple drinks. We have never walked out of there with a bill below $80. Last week when we were there, our waitress charged me for TAP WATER. When we asked why, she said the owner made a rule that you cannot get water on wing night. You have to get a drink if you get the .35 wings. Pretty sure you can't charge for tap water and how about you tell people that? Probably not a good idea to single out the lone water drinker while the whole rest of the table gets a few drinks each. Its not like we all come in and just get water and wings, we always have a hefty bill. read more

My wife have become regulars over the last few months. I think we have tried everything on the menu and have found everything to be above to well above average. The steak tips are not as great as Champions but man they are a close second. I have had most of the chicken dishes and only wish they used breast rather than tenders but it is "pub fare" so no foul. Heavy on the garlic at times but just ask and they welcome adjustments to your taste. The wraps are fresh and always a favorite of my wife. I ordered the burger and hands down the best. I'm always amazed at how many places just cant get it right. Not here, I liked it so much I went the very next day to have another one. The staff is quick on there feet,eager to please and they seem to help each other out making it for a more enjoyable stay. I like the atmosphere, we go between 6 and 9pm. Not too loud or crazy but lots of activity and it have met some nice people next to us nearly every time. We eat, we drink and tip well and still cant spend more than $60. Nothing fancy, no attitude, I can pronounce everything on the menu and afford it. My kind of place, my regular place to go every Friday night with my wife, get away from the kids (lol) enjoy some good conversation,nice people and eat some good food, oh yeah and not spend a lot of money. read more

i do not recommend this pub to hang out in on a weekend night since its packed tight with 22 year olds and the music is somewhere along the genre of god awful. however sunday lunch is pretty good, more of a 30 something family scene and the music is replaced by what ever sport season it is. particularly worth mentioning are the irish pub dishes. the fish and chips is fantastic with hand cut hommade fries, and the irish stew was tender and flavorful. both come in huge portions. read more

This is an OK place. The new menu looks promising though. The only thing that drives me crazy is when I'm trying to eat dinner and the TV and Radio is on so loud I have to scream to my boyfriend sitting next to me. We aren't old farts either, it was painful almost. The waitstaff is always friendly, but there is nothing worse when they congregate out front and smoke. Food was good. Drinks were good. What a joke that place is. Walked in on a Monday nite about 6:30 to get a beer and some apps.The female bartender watched us walk in, sit down and continued to talk to her friend at the bar. She never once said I'll be right with you, and never came over to us before we turned around and left. The BEST part is that my son and I are both bartenders and would NEVER do that to a customer that walked in! AND, as a bartender I know how to tip, so that woman lost out on a big one tonite! Another great meal at Fibber's! This is a local bar that's always busy - we tend to go on weeknights and we always manage to snag a table. My daughter is a vegetarian and she loves the veggie burger - my faves are the sweet chili wings and the patty melt. Save room for the amazing desserts! Servers are very attentive even when the kitchen and bar are busy. Food and drink are reasonably priced. Love the neighborhood feel of this place. Parking across the street at the Winfrey's lot (after 6) is very convenient. This is our go-to spot! read more

Fibber McGee's has become my new local watering hole ever since the ownership change. The bartenders are great, knowledgeable and attentive. They have a solid beer selection and always have some new drafts. The crowd is usually pretty diverse age wise and prices are right in line with all the local bars. The only reason I give it 4 stars is I have not tried the food yet, but otherwise it's everything you can look for in a local pub. read more
