The bar

Nine Giant's Fermentorium is a genius of a creation in the heart of Pleasant Ridge building on Nine Giant's fabulous beer with barrel aged beers, experimental beers and some fab tiki drinks served in their own colorful character themed glasses. I've visited a few times, have sat at the bar, sat at a table and in the back room as they've been busy. I've enjoyed every beer and tiki drink I've been served, even one time a little too much, too much tiki on a Sunday afternoon - well we were enjoying our Sunday Funday! You can enjoy a beer flight, now a tiki flight and they even have beer cocktails and frozen cocktails. Plus you can now order food from the brewery, which you need and pairs nicely with the experimental beers and tiki drinks. Also Pinko has returned on Wednesday evenings where you might luck out with one of the fab beers for $1 - get yourself down to the Fermentorium soon!

My lady was getting some new ink just down the road, and unfortunately, I couldn't stay with her for it (Flying Tiger's COVID-19 protocols), so I decided to stop by somewhere nearby for a couple drinks. Great excuse to finally try this spot, eh? I'm definitely a fan of all things Nine Giant, so I knew I was gonna enjoy Fermentorium, and I was absolutely right. It's a very laid back spot with lots of tasty libations and a great staff. The place itself is very open on the inside with lots of seating all around. They've got some big screen TV's if you wanna catch a game while you enjoy your drinks (I was watching the Hurricanes/Rangers game while I was there. LET'S GO, CANES!!). Speaking of said drinks, their menu runs the gambit from beers, specialty mixed drinks (each served in a different, fun mug), and wine. I was most interested in all their barrel aged brews, so I had the following: 1. Frankly Mr. Shankly bouron barrel-aged barleywine 2. Trendy cask aged saison 3. BA Coolverine- ER & Sazerac All three were fantastic, and I think I liked the Coolervine the best overall. Big, bold character with notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and rye spice. The beer tender was super friendly and helpful. This is definitely a great spot for drinks, even if you're not a total, unapologetic beer geek like myself, because there's something for everyone. On top of that, the atmosphere is VERY laid back, and if you can't decide on a single brew, go for a flight, and get a little of everything. Nine Giant does it again!

Expensive..Cold... and pretentious The fermatorium the latest expansion to nine giant brewing is all of the above. As you walk in the vibe is cocktail bar. No warmth nothing unique.. just a cocktail bar. The black and white decor are cold, standard and not inviting. It is the exact opposite vibe to nine giant taproom found right around the corner. There is no warmth or Comfort it feels just like any other bar. I will also add the $12 cocktails are served in unique tiki style glasses but that shouldn't be what makes a bar unique. They also have a large tap with barrel aged beers. This falls flat in the ultra modern... cold decor. It seems so out of place. Food can be ordered from the kitchen next door at the tap room and is a saving grace. That being said check out their tap room. Warm inviting... and lively.

Grabbed a few drinks after dinner at Nine Giant and loved the variety! They have lots of beer on tap, wine, TIKI DRINKS, and frozen drinks. All of the tiki drinks come in fun glasses and judging by the menu, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them! Each cocktail is a work of art and made to perfection. On Wednesdays they have Plinko, where you order a beer and are given one chip; wherever the chip lands on the Plinko board is what you pay for your drink! I also saw a party room in the back that looks like it could be reserved! Looking forward to coming back and trying some more drinks :)

Can't decide? Taste several beers at a time!

Great beers, even better cocktails. The bourbon slush is clutch. Plus... they have super fun barware to drink out of. It's very easy to order food from their restaurant-Nine Giant. Only takes a second to walk over there and pick it up. Definitely hoping this place sticks around.

Stopped by to check it out over memorial day weekend and had a great time! It is a very nice remodel on the space. We only drank on the tiki cocktails while were there and they were very tasty! We didn't have a bad thing the entire time. Nikki was our bartender and she was very personable and made great drinks. We are looking forward to our next visit!

Terrific atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, good selections, and nice location. Should be a good formula for success.

So excited to see Junglebird on the menu! It's my favorite tiki drink

I'm so glad we have this new addition to Pleasant Ridge! I'm always a fan of a good tiki bar, and this is one! I was over the moon to see that they had my favorite, the Junglebird, on the menu, too! I especially love the tiki glasses, but you know those are always a must. As of when I last visited, you could order food menu items from Nine Giant to the bar, too, and their food always looks amazing. The bar is pretty spacious with a decent amount of seating, and the space also comes with a party room area for big groups. Can't wait to go back!

Food from the party we had in the private room

My brother turned 40 and he booked the private room at Fermentorium for 20 people. Nice private space with a glass garage type door separating the room from the rest of the bar. They had tables/chairs with basic table cloths. Very nice space, no decor. There is a cutout window to the bar so you don't ever have to leave the party room to get a drink which was perfect. The food is from their sister restaurant Nine Giant (I believe that's the name). The mini crab cakes were good and the app's presented well. The taco bar was filling and delicious and we had more than enough for 20 people. They even had pickled onions on the taco bar. My only complaint were the donuts and they need to just cancel that partnership and offer something else for dessert (they come from an outside vendor). The donuts were served cold. The bartenders were patient and kind, the staff working the party room were attentive and willing to help us with anything that was needed. I left impressed with this place and what they offered for such a special occasion, turning 40. Nice job Fermentorium! I would definitely book a private party here. Well done.

Ask the Community - Fermentorium

Are Fermentorium and the restaurant able to accommodate severe gluten allergies for drinks and food? (Cross contamination concerns, etc)

Do you do reservations for large groups?

Yes! Just called them to ask for availability. Great people!

Is there a patio for dogs?

Is it kid friendly?

Not really. I remember mostly high top tables and it's a small space.

Do you have any outdoor seating?

No, but our brewpub around the corner does have a small outdoor patio if you’re looking for beer and eats!

I came out in December for their Miracle pop-up in 2025…read more As someone who has gone to a ton of holiday cocktail bars and pop-ups over the last 10 years, Overlook Lodge's is probably the best I've ever been to. Be aware it will be FAST. Look at the order ahead of time if you're a picky eater/drinker. They run your appointment like clockwork, and you'll be in-and-out, gulping down cocktails, through the entire experience. Your two drinks are included (this year, anyway), and I'd honestly be surprised if you managed to have time for a third. Time zips by fast. That being said, because they do it this way, you essentially have constant service, there's "events" that happen at the end of your reservation time, (I don't want to spoil it, but cover your drink!), and then they kick you out. Service was friendly, though, and I saw the server make time to take group photos for all of the tables (including ours) with someone at the table's camera. (No bullshit "group photo" upsells here) It's kinda loud, though, and I wouldn't recommend this as a chill meet-up-and-socialize spot. (If you wanna talk, they have an addendum, Christmas-themed laid-back bar next door.) It's more of a "get blasted in the face by Christmas for an hour and then leave" experience. It's pretty loud, and talking can be a bit difficult over the music and constant interruptions (more drinks? Photos? Cute Christmas video montage?) But this works in its favor as it feels the most Christmas, over-the-top, and seasonal out of all the holiday bars I've ever been to. It also keeps it from feeling too crowded as reservations are required, so you for-sure have a seat and you don't have to stand forever in line to wait for drinks. I'd probably guesstimate that bar staff is making all of their seasonal drinks, constantly, and servers just pick one up to deliver. With the capacity in here, it would make sense. No idea what the bar is like the rest of the year; this is just a review for the Miracle pop-up which, again, is probably the best I've been to in the Midwest. Cincinnati, you're spoiled down here. (Sidenote, I was absolutely taken aback by their TV presentation on the wall. It's hard to describe, but it isn't just a projector showing a giant rectangle. It's specifically slotted into the holes in-between holiday decorations. Staff told me that had to hire special technicians to get it to show up that way and that's seriously a level of detail I am so amazed by.)
