Located on Pier 12, Fedé is unassuming. It's not at the end of the pier, though there are a couple of tables with a great view on the east side. You can watch the bar pilots head out to navigate the ships to the Pacific. It was my birthday and somehow we got one of these special tables. Service was perfect. I didn't get anyone's name, but when we put my name in and came back at our call time, we walked in and the woman, walking through the restaurant, said, "Hey, Mindy." A nice touch. Our server was also just right. I got the Negroni melone because I'm a sucker for Negronis. It was decent, though it would have been much better with a gentleman's cube. The hubs got a blood orange cocktail that was really yummy. We started with the ricotta and preserved tomato crostini, which was excellent! Hubs ordered the sablefish and I ordered the ravioli with chard. Both were fantastic! The sablefish was exactly, perfectly cooked. It had skin on, but easy to eat without if you're not into that. Ah, so good! The ravioli was so delish! The only thing missing was a sip of limoncello at the end of the meal, which you'd receive in Italy, but otherwise deliziosa! read more

Two years ago we tried this spot and it was amazing. I forgot to leave a review and we decided to go back again for a second time. We heard that the place usually is very crowded and the wait can be long. So we tried to get there earlier for dinner. Positives: -the food was once again amazing. I can see why it's crowded and for good reason. The spot is a little smaller and probably the best Italian spot in town. We had meatballs last time, I remember it and it was hard to order something else this time. I got the lamb and my wife got beef ragu. We also ordered lasagna and the deviled eggs. -the prices were reasonable which is why we ordered so much. -the food was so good that we surprisingly finished everything we ordered. My lamb wasn't too gamey and the meat was extra tender. My pasta was a little undercooked. The lasagna was very meaty and it had an herby seasoning to it. I would say it's the best lasagna I've ever had. The deviled eggs were very good too and at a great price. You also get free bread which was also good. We arrived around 5:00 p.m. on a Tuesday and were told our table wouldn't be ready until 7:00 p.m., which was surprising. By the time we were seated, they had already run out of several menu items we wanted to try. Unfortunately, the service didn't improve the experience. Our server came across as sarcastic rather than welcoming. We ordered the burrata, which is usually a favorite whenever we see it on a menu, but it was completely lacking in flavor. The lasagna was even more disappointing--it didn't taste authentic at all. It looked and tasted like it was made with processed American cheese and reheated from frozen. Based on our experience, the food didn't live up to the overwhelmingly positive reviews. The ambiance was cute, but because the restaurant is in a shared space, you have to go upstairs to use a common restroom that requires a code, which was inconvenient. My fiancé and I came the day that we got engaged. They don't take reservations and there was about a 30 minute wait so we went to a bar nearby to enjoy some water views and a celebratory drink. Fortunately, Fede was able to honor our request and get us one of the two tables that overlooked the water in the restaurant. Service was very friendly and they congratulated us on our engagement. The food was excellent as well and prices were very reasonable. We got the Sablefish, Linguine with Clams, and Pappardelle. Everything was delicious and while we almost added a Fennel Salad, I was glad that we didn't in the end as it was just the right amount of food for 2. It's a nice treat when you have friends that visit a city frequently enough to make recommendations. The combination of Yelp info, plus knowing a name or two, made for a wonderful visit to Astoria. While Fede isn't located on the end of the pier that it calls home, my table did have a bit of a view of the river. But the view isn't why you should come here. For me, the revelation was a crostini appetizer with preserved tomatoes and ricotta. For my wife, it was the fish soup. And we hadn't even gotten to the entrees yet. The cocktails we chose were light and refreshing. PS - the lasagna with bechamel was also a delight. Fede doesn't take reservations, so I imagine it's packed during the summer. You can tell how good this restaurant is from the moment you walk in -- it smells amazing inside and the place is bustling with happy customers. They don't take reservations so we had about 40 minutes to wait; we ended up being seated a little bit early. All of our courses came out promptly and were totally delicious. To start, they do not take reservations, they are small and committed to their craft. You can't order to go, cause they make small batches and want to make sure everyone that comes in has opportunity to get what they want to order. They have a drink on their menu which proceeds go to cancer research, which I love. Bonus that it was delicious, but I was going for it anyways. We ordered focaccia and olives, which were great and we both wanted more of the focaccia, but knew we had 3 more courses coming. I had soup, my sister salad. The only downside for the cucumber salad was it was a little too much salad for that type of salad. The carbonara was cooked perfectly al dente, a tad too much sauce, but you know...I could just not lick the plate, it's fine. I needed more protein and my sister wanted desert so last course, I had pork shoulder and she had tiramisu. The pork was incredibly tender, quite literally fell apart with a fork pull. The tiramisu was substantial. The staff knew what they were about and treated people genuinely rather than overly nice. More like "welcome home" vibes. The carbonara was so salty that irritated my throat, the meatballs none of us could eat and it was taken off our bill. The lasagna was less salty. The quality of the food was great but extremely salty. Led me to believe this was an accident and I am willing to give this another try the next time we are in Astoria. This is a magnificent spot. You need to be organized to secure a table, because it fills up fast. "WOW" really encapsulates my partner and I's dinner experience here. We originally planned on going to the SEA Crab House, but saw the menu on the window of this place and couldn't help but change our plans. Their menu is broken into courses with the smaller/shareable plates in courses 1-2, and the heartier options in courses 3-4. Everything on the menu looked terrific, which made it so hard to choose. We ended up starting with the deviled eggs & arugula salad, and then each got a pasta for our main course. I really want to emphasize I am not exaggerating at all when I say that all of the food was absolutely splendid AND, if that isn't enough, the prices are great. My shrimp linguine was a very generous portion and only $18. The quality of the food compared to the price is probably the best I've ever experienced. Also, the deviled eggs are a must. On top of the food being great, our waitress was amazing. She was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. It wasn't super busy when we first arrived (maybe 4:30pm), but the place was pretty full with people waiting by the time we left. Very weird customer service. My wife ordered an entree and I ordered a different entree. We each specifically stated "I want this." The entrees were not delivered together and I was going to have to wait and watch my wife eat hers while mine was still unavailable. When I mentioned it to the waitress (not yelling, no profanity...I've eaten in restaurants all over the world at age 77), the owner came to the table and told me "don't be rude to my employees." Fedé is our favorite restaurant. Period. Which is why it's so tragic that we live in Portland and can't go all the time. The freshest beautiful simple italian food. It's seasonal! This is how dining should always be, all of the servers are very personable and don't rush you. I feel I can really relax in their environment, it's simple and homey. We always get a limoncello spritz, a few oysters, the burrata, the fennel salad, always the agnolotti (and finish with an espresso) The only downside (because there has to be one) is that just like me, this is many other's favorite restaurant as well. This place is amazing! First, I'd like to point out that most of the negative reviews seem to be related to people being upset they can't get in for one reason or another... This restaurant is more of an intimate, specialty, "boutique," if you will, spot. They do not take reservations. They do not have a phone number to call and ask about wait times. It's a place you have to show up early and take your chances. That all being said, it's worth it. The hosts who greeted me were very kind, despite how busy it was. They were gracious enough to squeeze me in-- luckily, I was on my own, so I'm sure that helped a bit. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Everything here is homemade, and you can tell. From where I was seated, I could see one of the chef's making pasta. It's a lovely, quaint experience. The server did take a little bit to greet me, but they were very busy, so I didn't mind. Once greeted, the remainder of the service was spot on. I ordered the house made limonata (basil lemonade) and it was amazing! I consider myself a lemonade (amateur) aficionado, and it checked all my boxes: not too tart or sweet, and not too watery; it had a slight thickness to it. I did not realize my pasta would come with complimentary warm fresh bread, so I ordered focaccia to start. It was served room temp, and had wonderful flavor and texture: not too salty, crunchy, or soft, or heavily olive oil tasting. Then, I had the arugula salad, which was light and refreshing. The server was very accommodating to my egg and seafood allergies, working with the kitchen to find out what was safe for me. For my entree, I ordered the Fileja with 'Nduja, which I've never had before. The pasta-- the pasta! The homemade touch shines here, wow! The texture of the pasta alone was wonderful. A tiny touch of spice, but that was expected, and I enjoyed it. But, just a note for individuals who may have very little or zero spice tolerance. My pasta also came with a mini loaf of warm, fresh bread, which I enjoyed even more than the focaccia (and I quite enjoyed that). Needless to say, I could barely touch my entree by the time it got to me: too full! I would recommend this place to anyone, just with the understanding that you may or may not get in. Tonight was our first time eating at Fede, but won't be our last. We really enjoyed this charming, somewhat hidden gem. Our burrata was delicious and was perfectly complemented by the soft bread. The radiatori with lamb was succulent and unctuous. Both of these we would definitely order again. However, my linguine with wild shrimp was too oily. Although the olive oil used was of the highest quality, there was too much of it for this dish. The menu actually doesn't mention that olive oil is the primary ingredient of the sauce. This little place sits right on the water off of 12th street. Get there early and expect to wait a bit- they don't take reservations and have limited seating. The max number a table can hold is 6. But it is soooo worth it!! It reminds me of the little trattorias I would visit in Italy. They make EVERYTHING from scratch, the pasta, the bread, the limoncello, even their special cherry liquor! Most of the seafood is local too, minus the rainbow trout. Faith the owner is incredibly kind and their waitresses Ann and Jen will make sure you are well taken care of. It was so fabulous I came both nights of my stay in Astoria. First night I ordered the pistachio pesto pasta. Second night I ordered a limoncello spritz and the seafood soup.
