With all the wood & hard surfaces it's no wonder the decibel levels rise with their nightly standing room only crowds. Owner/Host table hops with a sparkle & appreciates his employees genuinely. Plus the food is spot on an excellent every time the shrimp is north of red lobster the chicken is north of Applebee's a step above all the way around with a lower ticket to boot. Great food, great service. We were driving through Springfield and chose this place based on Yelp reviews and that it was Sunday and several other Yelp suggested locations were closed. The place does not have very good signage but once we found it, it had a nice interior and exterior. The bathrooms and the restaurant looked very clean. We were seated right away. We got the hush puppies (only $1!) and the fried pickles for apps. The hush puppies were good, the butter dip was a little weird to me but I mean, who doesn't like butter?! The fried pickles were some of the best I have had. I ordered the cedar planked salmon, it was very, very good. The bourbon glaze was okay, next time I might skip it though. I got the matchstick veggies, a heaping helping of veggies and also the sweet potato casserole which tasted like Thanksgiving and was such a treat my three year old thought it was dessert. My hubby got the rainbow trout which he said was great. The kids got catfish (delicious) and shrimp (good). The fries were pretty salty. Overall, the menu has excellent choices and the execution is wonderful. The price was very reasonable. Our bill was $46 with two apps, two entrees, two kids meals and a drink. Our server was very good. I was surprised she had quite the pulse on our table without hovering a bit. Other waitstaff was also attentive. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet, as often as we come here. This is our favorite casual place out these days, since the food is great and so are the prices. It's nice to have a place like this where the restaurant feels fancier than the prices do, especially when we're entertaining family or friends from out of town. FD's makes a great choice, as there's nothing wild here, and something for everybody. We have had most of the menu by this point and had nothing bad. The food is always perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Service is friendly and adequate. I highly recommend both the Fish Tacos and the Gumbo, though like I said, you can't go wrong with any choice. Don't show up here expecting the pinnacle of Springfield haute cuisine, but if you want a great meal for seriously good prices, and something different than diner fare, definitely come here. read more

Little thing like bringing ketchup with fries didn't happen. Definitely could tell manager/owner was not on premesis when restaurant opened in Sunday. We ended up here on our way to caves from Branson. We wanted the Texas Road House but they were closed. It looks fancy when you walked in so we were a bit underdressed, even for lunch, but as we were leaving more vacationers we're coming in so it was fine. 7 of us (3 kids) ate lunches and had two appetizers. All of the food was great! The firecracker shrimp was delish! The kids portion of pasta was enough to feed two adult people (we would have had two share if we had known). The calamari was light and crunchy. We are from Chicago where lunch for 7 people at a decent restaurant could get pricey, but we all ate for under $80 (including 2 apps). Our small group from church met at FD's for food and fellowship. We had 27 people so expected the food to come a little slow. It was not. The service was excellent, the waitress, Taylor, was awesome. Everyone left commenting on how pleased they were with both the food and atmosphere. This place was a surprise for sure, clean spacious dining room with a separate area for seating in the bar. This place fills up quick, and defiantly has a following. It can get a little loud when full, just about every surface is hard and flat, nothing to absorb the sound from a busy dining room. One thing I did find interesting, the music, its all 80's, all hail the gen x 'ers. I was sitting there and it was song after song straight out of the 80's. Food, its good, plentiful and inexpensively priced, great formula they have going. The gumbo is packed full with some spicy kick and the fish tacos are huge, more like a fish taco wrap. Ribs are fall off the bone good, literally they fall right off the bone, man they are good. The portion to price ratio is defiantly in the diners favor here and the food quality is on the high side for sure. Like I said this place gets busy at peak dining hours so, get there a little early or late and you should be fine. The servers are friendly and very helpful if you are having trouble picking from the extensive menu. If you are out southwest in town give this hidden gem a try, it's tucked back behind Famous Dave's BBQ. Tried FD's because it got good reviews. Had a great experience. We started with the hushpuppy appetizer which was just right - a little kick of jalapeño made them really good! Our entree's took awhile to come out of the kitchen, so the exec chef brought them himself. You don't see service like that very many places. The owner also stopped by a few times to check on us and make sure everything was satisfactory. I had the fish n chips. Large portion with plenty of fish, fries, and coleslaw. The fish was very hot when I got it, and the tartar sauce was fantastic! It tasted homemade. My hubby had a combo platter with three kinds of shrimp - stuffed, grilled, and fried. He chose buttered corn and sweet potato casserole for sides. Huge platter! I tried his stuffed and fried shrimp. Both were very good. Been here twice and both times the food was good, so 4 stars for that. Last Friday was my second visit, and I was with 2 friends. We were almost finished eating when another server (not ours) dropped a small bowl of coleslaw on the floor right next to us. Coleslaw went everywhere and the 3 of us at our table were sprayed with the juice. The server was very apologetic, however, we had to ask our own server for more napkins, etc., to clean up, and the manager even came over and helped clean up the coleslaw on the floor, but he never spoke a word to us, and Im sure he saw us cleaning ourselves up. Even other tables around us noticed that we had been hit. Disappointed that the manager never spoke to us. That should've been handed better. read more

My family and I love going here. Dad has dietary restrictions and they are always accommodating. Hannah L is very attentive and sweet. The prices are reasonable and the food is absolutely delicious. I have had the tilapia and gulf shrimp which is amazing. The steak was also delicious. My mom always gets the Alaskan fish and chips, with a side of firecracker sauce. Dad always gets the salmon and the lemon butter is light and savory. If you're not wanting wine, the coffee is some of the best in town. Large portion, and coffee snobs would be impressed. FD's could be Applebee's or Cheddar's. Food is good but not as good as it should be. If I was having 'hot flashes' this would be the place to go. This was the second time I've been to this restaurant and I wanted to enjoy the meal. I ordered the salmon with baked potato & matchstick vegetables, my potato and vegetables were cold so I ask that they be warmed up. I was given a new baked potato, hot and new plate of matchstick vegetables the were hot when delivered but cold in 5 minutes! Fan was blowing and chilled hot food fast. I don't mind a cool restaurant but if they're keeping it cold to have a faster turn over of customers they should think of a better way. I'm sure my complaint of a cold restaurant won't keep many people from dropping by but I won't be one of them. By the way, too much batter on the calamari. read more

This was my first experience at FD's after hearing many good reviews from a trusted friend. I am very pleased with the service, food and price. The atmosphere was a little loud because it was so busy and the decor was modern. The food was very well prepared. I had the grilled catfish with sweet potato casserole and buttered corn. The portion size was large, there were two big pieces of fish and plenty of corn. Beware, the sweet potato casserole is very sweet and topped with marshmellows. My boyfriend the bacon cheeseburger and he really enjoyed it. I snagged a bite and it was delicious as well as the fries. The bun held up but was still soft and the flavors were on point. Locally owned and very yummy! I've been here multiple times for different occasions and love it! The fish tacos are tasty! Go for some of the lunch size portions because they give plenty of food here! I love their spicy sauces and the chicken tenders which I normally avoid because, well, can't anyone do those, are great! Well it wasn't worth the wait. We waited almost an hour then got compliments chips and dip because of it. The 3 dips were mediocre just cheese, black beans and salas which all seemed they were from a can. We were waiting and waiting for our meals during which time our waiter brought us our bill and asked if we enjoyed everything, we had to tell him we hadn't gotten our food yet. By the time our food came mine was cold! I was really over the whole experience by that time so I didn't complain again. People at the table got chicken fingers and said they were great. But I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. Maybe after they've had a little time to work out being new. read more

The food was good but when we walked in it smelled a little off and then my husband pointed out that all he could smell was pee and then it clicked that I was smelling that also. It smelled like an old diaper filled with pee but it didn't smell near the bathrooms so I'm wondering if someone peed all over the carpet and never cleaned it up? This is our treat for lunch when we're in Springfield. 1.First the building Design and decor looks like a very high end restaurant but casual dress and "lake tourist" is the norm here. 2. The food is always awsome- we get the fried pickles (some of the best we've ever had and we are very well traveled) , grilled fish tacos, fried shrimp, house made mashed (with their jackets on) potatoes, sweet potatoe fries and house salad with tiny jullienned apples, candied pecans and the house made lemon spiked salad dressing are aMing our faves. When we have room (almost never happens) their Keylime pie is delicious! 3. The service is usually really great- we've had a few less than stellar servers in several years of going here but the food always comes out fast, hot, beautifully presented and as we expected. 4. And the prices are great! We always say if you get 3 out of the 4 big things right then it's On our favorites list, but FDGrill is a 4 so its at the top of our list! I went there tonight on a recommendation from a friend. Great atmosphere but ended up feeling disappointed with the experience. We felt the server was trying to "turn the table". Dinners arrived right after we got our salads. Meals were cool not warm or hot. The server never refilled our drinks nor asked us about dessert. She just dropped off the check. Excellent surprise for Springfield. We were looking for a local, decently priced, well tasting meal and this hit the spot. They estimated a 10-15 minute wait, but we were seated in 2 minutes. Fast service had us done with dinner and drinks in 45 minutes to an hour. Not a high end restaurant, but a fantastic option if you're looking for a simple dinner out or if you happen to be in Springfield just for the night.
