FD's Grillhouse is a very affordable restaurant where you can order burgers, chicken strips, ribs, steak or fish tacos! I love the wide variety their menu offers. Went on March 22, 2018. Calamari that I ordered was pretty good and so were the fish tacos (as well as the shrimp gumbo), but one of the reasons why I came here was to buy someone a steak. Steak doesn't seem to be their forte, unfortunately. The steak was ordered medium well done, and what was brought out was medium rare at best (i.e. bloody). They must have been understaffed, because it took so long to get the attention of a waitress that by the time we got the steak back we were done and ready to leave. The fact that we could hear another party behind us complain of precisely the same issue (an under-cooked steak) leads me to believe this is not an uncommon problem. Even worse, when we got home we discovered that it was still under-cooked (for the level of doneness that was requested). This is not a bad place. I've visited twice for lunch (although, I didn't order steak on the second visit). I found the experience decent both times. I'm not sure if there are better fish tacos in the area, and the calamari is pretty great. Bummer about the steak though. I have to add that I'm not a particular fan of the harsh, glaring outdoor light that is allowed to beam, unfiltered, through the gigantic window on the south side of the building. I realize this would not be an issue at night, but I have visited this restaurant twice for lunch, and each time I have to deal with the almost blinding glare of sunlight beating down on everything around me. We travel from KC to Arkansas regularly and FD's Grillhouse is our go to dining spot. You can't go wrong with it. Everything we have ever ordered from the menu is awesome. They have the best steak I have ever eaten. The staff is very good. No matter what time of day we pass through we get superb service and food. Can't wait to eat there soon. read more

Firstly, let me start with 2 words...fish tacos!! And as a guy who loves seafood I have become a little picky when it comes to my favorite food. I can honestly say in my entire LIFE I cannot remember having eaten a better fish taco. It is made with catfish instead of talapia (+1 star) they subbed lettuce for the cabbage as a special request (+1 star) and the seasoning was out of this world (+1 star). I also had the crab and shrimp dip which was outstanding (+2 stars) and to top it off, wait, I'm out of stars. No matter I'll make my own rating system. The food was wonderful! I had the 7 oz. sirloin with a baked potato and a side salad. The salad was to die for! My date and I split the three dip starter and it was wonderful as well. The service here was great, Joanna helped us and she took care of everything in a timely manner and was super friendly. Even once I was taking my time with dessert and my wine I realized I was holding up one of her tables and apologized. I said I would hurry and get out of her way and she insisted that I wasn't a bother and to "please take your time and enjoy your meal". The menu was healthy for the most part and very affordable. The only thing I could really complain about was the only steak option is sirloin. When you first walk in, the ambiance and upscale feel of the environment makes you initially cringe at what you're sure is going to be a sizable hit to the pocketbook. Then, you sit down into one of their comfortable chairs, look at the one page menu, see an average price of around $11, and realize your night just got a whole lot better. In truth, we found ourselves trying to pull the thick menu apart, surely expecting there to be more then just the few short options available, but alas, they only have minimal selections of steak, ribs, chicken and seafood. But what then do have, they do amazingly well. Quality over quantity is the name of the game at FD's for sure. And the quality is fantastic. The great atmosphere, coupled with great service and amazing food, and all of this at a price that didn't have me with instant buyers remorse at the end?! Tried it after hearing good things. The prices are quite reasonable but the menu is somewhat limited. The biggest negative and why 4 stars is such limited salad dressing and no Caesar options. As for what we are the hushpuppies were fair but very cheap at just a $1. The chicken tenders were the same type as cheddars and only 6.50 for a nice lunch size you can get anytime. The triple dipper appetizer was reasonable and included refills on the chips. My wife loved the steak and shrimp and I found the shrimp very good. With the local Cheddar's GM's husband as the owner of FD's Grillhouse, you know this restaurant will be a local success. My husband and I came here with my parents on a Saturday night to only find a 30 minute wait. Entering the restaurant, the entrance is large and the flow of the restaurant is nice. (I can't stand restaurants that have hidden rooms, it creates a muted and closed experience). The dining room was long and spacious. The decor was a modern, industrial refreshment to canned decor throughout restaurants in the Midwest. The service was fair for a busier evening. We ordered the Mexican Shrimp Cocktail for an appetizer for the table. I'm not sure if I would order it again. The chips were a bit thin and fresh (my favorite, but not for a chunky dip), which made getting the sliced avocado and shrimp with the salsa a bit difficult. My husband ordered the salmon and I, the fish taco lunch combo. He really enjoyed the salmon and everything on his plate was fresh and large portions. He ordered the lunch size, by the way. Honestly, I liked the atmosphere here and the food. Although the Adobe sauce was a bit rich for the fish tacos, I will still come back. I have a couple of other things on the menu that I would like to try. Plus, the house salad was great and fresh. Thank god for homemade dressings! Love, Love, Love this place! There was a crowd waiting to get in but it only took a few moments for us to get a table. The ambience was very nice in the restaurant, loved the lighting as well. Our Server was amazing very tentative and she kept our glasses full. I thought the prices were going to be expensive but they were very reasonably priced. The portions were large and the food was delicious! The hush puppies were my favorite! My family and I will definitely be going back. I think this restaurant is a great addition to Springfield.
