I like this bakery a lot because they have amazing pastries. The service not so much. Never has anyone been friendly or even saying hello. But maybe that is part of the experience when you go to authentic Chinese bakeries? All I know is that they have a pastry called a Cinnamon Walnut Cruffin. OMG, it's amazing. I could eat thousands of these. I also love egg custard tarts usually but I do not care for them from Fay. I don't know just wasn't floating my boat. I will go back there every chance I can get to get the Cruffin though. read more

I SPENT ALMOST $80 worth of bakery foods and was charged from Fay Da Bakery and ordered 18 items and didn't receive 5 items ( $20 dollars worth). Went on the app and submitted a picture of all the items that was received ( 13 items) . After, I called Uber Eats Support and Spoke with an Uber Eats rep on the line for them to tell me their specialty team needs to investigate further and they would be contacting me in 6 hrs. I did NOT get a response till 5am this morning for an online rep named Esther confirming I was not eligible for a refund. I called again and spoke with a Trish and she told me she made a report to the specialist team about the situation again and they responded that I would NOT be receiving a refund. FAY DA BAKERY & UBER EATS JUST LOST 2 CUSTOMERS who have been customers for A VERY Long time. Hope the $20 was worth it. read more

CASH ONLY ! I love this place. Fay Da is probably the only chinese bakery I would always go to! Their bread and bakery are authentic and it's always fresh. I always like to buy some for the week. I put them back in the microwave or oven for couple mins and they taste just like it's freshly baked! I also like their coffee and milk tea. As a girl from Hong Kong, this is a must for me to get a hot milk tea for breakfast or afternoon tea! It can get crowded during rush hours. It's also cash only. They do not accept cards. There are some tables and seats if you want to eat there. This is my go to bakery whenever I am craving for some Bao! Definitely give it a try! read more

Not enough tables and chairs. Mostly elderly folks here. They just hang out and hog up table and do not leave. Every Fay Da Bakery has the same products. This one is much smaller. Place is conveniently located by the subway station and bus stop which all Fay Da Bakery are. They do not clean the tables. Women just replace products, and hang out in the cash register area. read more

I've heard lots of good things about Fay Da Bakery, but never found the time to stop by, or when I did I only had my credit cards on me (cash only establishment). Luckily was able to pop by this afternoon. I kinda grabbed a bunch of random things because I didn't know where to start. I rated them 1-5 below, 1 being the best: *sticky rice bun (5) *custard bun with sweet topping (1) *cheese bun (3) *almond danish (2.5) *sweet bun (2) I tried to remember all the names exactly but their exact names might be slightly different. The custard bun was by far the best. Sweet bun filled with fresh custard and a crumbly sweet topping. The sticky rice bun was yuck. It definitely tasted like fish, but the signs don't have any descriptors other than just the name of the bun. I honestly have no idea what was actually in it. Only giving 3 stars because nothing seemed like none of it was very fresh. I recognize I went to the bakery in the afternoon, so I look forward to trying it again in the morning and hope to revisit my review with better results. read more

Caa1 Siu1 Baau1 叉燒包 as other buns are made fresh and warm in the morning but rather extremely BLAND. It was food without seasoning. There is seating as this bakery is somewhat clean. My opinion, Fay Da Bakery has amazing bubble tea with real fruit, but for a price of a whopping $5.00. Three stars as the service is somewhat inattentive. This Forest Hills, Queens location has not been here for long as it was opened sometime in late 2007. Having to previously lived here I would come here often for cheap lunches of buns and bubble tea. I believe cash only. read more

I rarely come in this bakery. There isn't anything wrong with it. It's just when you always eat Chinese food; you can get sick of it. This decision was out of my hands when the F and E trains didn't stop at union turnpike stop. I usually go to the Starbucks near there for a grande bold coffee while waiting for my ride. I couldn't just loiter in this bakery hence I ordered a cheese bun. I find it icky they let anyone go pick their own pastries in those clear glass boxes. The routine is you pick a tongs and a plate. When you go to the cash register, they ask if you want a drink to go with it. Then, they quote the price. The last question is to go or to stay. The whole process was quick. My favorite item is the curry puff from here. It's an acquired taste but it's hot and spicy; I love it. read more

The 5-STAR review is for their dedication to service...all the bakery workers here are overworked and possibly underpaid. They work very long hours-- before getting into details about my experience-- I DO want to reiterate this-- if you pay with bigger bills like 20s and 50s-- it's OK to say what your bill is "aloud"-- call it out loud enough so other people on line could hear and see it. Yesterday morning, I paid with a $20 dollar bill (along with $0.75 in coins) for a $6.75 purchase. I got back $4.00 and when I immediately asked for clarification, the cashier said, "No, you gave me a $10!" So this went back and forth for like a whole minute...my eyes locked with hers. Finally, I understood and conceded. She'd just fought so hard for herself because she DID make a mistake. And if she did make a mistake (or had other intentions--) well, either way the customer can't be right...because then she would've lost face, possible in front of all her Chinese speaking regulars and in front of her supervisor. I know how much face matters when you don't have anything-- her eyes reflected the fiery of my late immigrant mom and the intense glare of my MIL-- the plight of Asian women of generations before us-- and also, currently the same issues keeping Asian women from advancing. When I went in there yesterday-- I spoke only Cantonese. I didn't speak English like I usually do. That's my privileged language of expression-- the language that could make such a big stink on Yelp but that's NOT what I'm going to do here today. I'm taking the high road (and possibly the road less taken) In response to this incident, I beseech you all-- (if you can spare the extra change) when you go in there next time-- please drop a tip in the workers "gratuity box." I definitely do not condone her fight or flight response however, I forgive her-- whatever her reason, it's fu$&ing survival mode. Please leave a tip if and when you can. One last note-- their steamed buns and hot Ovaltine is wonderful on a chilly October morning! read more

I feel like I get constantly jipped here. I bought three breads, milk tea/coffee medium cold drink, and a water... Total $8.60... I was thinking about after I left, and it should not have been so much... AT MOST, it should have been $7.20ish so CUSTOMERS, BEWARE OF THEM SHORT CHANGING YOU!!! Im going to start asking for a receipt... how come they dont give receipts??? read more

I picked up a few items from here: a fish sandwich and a matcha sponge cake. The fish sandwich was made with frozen breaded fish, but it's not bad for a $3 sandwich. The matcha sponge cake was made with Ito En matcha according to a sticker on the display case. It had a slight matcha flavor, though it mostly tasted like ordinary Chinese sponge cake. Not sure if they do online ordering. Their website was down. They seemed to be out of many items, so it might make more sense to check it out in person. Several signs say they are cash-only. read more

Convenient location right on the corner of 71st Ave. and Queens Blvd. If you need to hop into a green taxi afterwards, they are lined up right outside the door---MTA entrance for the R, M, E and F trains several feet nearby. Ok, so it's not the *cleanest* Fay-Da Bakery I've been to (and by that, I mean I've spotted employees using their bare hands once or twice when arranging buns, and the trays are probably never cleaned)...and I do wish they had parchment paper separating their trays instead of having to put the buns down directly ontop, but in fairness I've noticed most places don't have this anymore perhaps due to cost. Products are normally quite fresh as it's a high-traffic area so that's a plus point---food turns over quickly! Checkout moves fast but take note of how your purchases are rung up as once in a while you might catch human error happening. Cakes displays are phenomenal-looking. My tips: 1) They encourage you to place your tray of goodies on the high shelf to move the line along efficiently, as they slide the trays down. My suggestion is to NOT do this unless you welcome the opportunity for strangers to cough, snort back phlegm, or breathe all over your food as the shelf is somewhat face-level. 2) Plan on taking your purchases to-go as regulars tend to monopolize the place for hours on end. read more

Love this place, it's so good. The pastries are fluffy and not as sweet as a typical American pastries. They have many different types and style of pastries along with bubble teas and soy milk drink. They have sandwiches for under $5 that can serve as a breakfast. Most of their pastries are about $1.75 to $2.25. Highly recommended, could be useful for birthdays or office meetings if you want to try something other than donuts. read more

I'm not gonna lie, the pastries are actually pretty good. I got a cheese bread, an egg bun and a hot milk tea. Would recommend the egg bun because the size is huge. Couple of downsides. They don't accept credit card, only cash. Another down side, is for those who don't eat certain meats like pork or who are only vegetarians, you would have to be careful. The same utensils used for meat are used for non meat, which means cross contamination. This may not be a big deal for some, but for others it is. read more

Fay Da has been my go to for on the go bites whenever i'm seeking breakfast or a light lunch. their goods are always freshly baked and suuuper varies - i personally love the hot dog wrapped in sweet bread and their assortment of steamed buns. at most something might cost you $2.50 which is AMAZING and can get you a ton of satisfying and yummy food for super cheap. I also get coffee and cakes from there. the ladies are always quick and friendly and the space is kept clean. there is seating so you can stop and hang and it's located right by the train for on the go purposes. read more

Great Cantonese Bakery! The price is reasonable. The service has been good so far for all my visits.

A warm and clean bakery store at super good location. Spacious dine-in area, and friendly service. The kids are I all like their black forest cake, which is always so delicious and not too sweet. They also provide assorted breads and sandwiches. Among the sandwiches, my favorite is the curry beef puff. For their fish sandwich, my suggestion is it will be more tasty, if they would modify the recipe and also keep it warm. The disadvantage is they accept cash only. Some other Fay Da locations, such as the ones in China Town and Flushing, would provide free newspapers when customer spends $5+, but I have never received from here. read more

Their birthday cakes are good. But if you buy their bread indoor, every time you need to remember to ask for receipt and check if it's all the items you put in your plate to check out , especially when you fill your plate full with different types of bread. You also need to be clear how much each bread costs, otherwise there is possibility you may be charged at higher cost which actually not the price of your picked bread. On the receipt, you will see a different item's name. I leave this comments after they charged me wrong three times. Two times, I had to go back and pointed to the receipt and they refunded me extra charge. Another time, I only found out after walked out too far and didn't have time to go back for about $2. I never trust their cashier any more. By the way, my kid ate out a hair in the pork bun once. read more

Conveniently placed just outside the 71st-Forest Hills Station, this location has good service and is a great place to come to if you're looking for a quick and cheap tasty treat! Whether it's sweet or savory, Fay Da has all the staples you'd typically see in a Chinese bakery with consistent quality across their locations. I liked its Roast pork bun cuz it wasn't excessive with the gravy. The filling reminded me of finely shredded pork along WITH the gravy. The color of the mixture made me think of beef. And the exterior bun was light, slightly sweet & salty. Also bought a Raisin Cream Bun. The cream was only a dollop in the center, very similar to cream cheese. Enough raisins to enjoy the bun. Another light delight. read more

I always look for well-priced decent quality things and this bakery is pretty good, not the best but does the trick. I like the chicken sandwich, the egg tarts, the pineapple bun, the pork floss bun, and the curry puffs. Waiting for the Q23 and hungry pre-pandemic I used to come by in my school days. It was a joy to eat a hotdog bun with a milk tea while waiting for the bus. Wow an Asian Bakery in Forest Hill ! It is nice to have something different. Same routine as most Fay Da Bakery, get a plastic tray and pick the pastries that you like and bring it to be counter. The prices for the buns are any where from 0.90 to $2. The cakes are by the slice or whole. They even have Japanese-style cheese cake! They have bubble tea also. It is great to see a group of Jewish man hanging out at the tables eating cake and arguing politics in an Asian Bakery! read more

This used to be my spot in Chinatown and I was so happy when they got a branch closer to my area on Queens Blvd/Austin Street. Location: It is right above the trains that stop at Forest Hills(aka 71st/Continental as it was called back in the day). Menu: Basically the food items have the prices listed next to them and on the board are the drinks they make with the prices. Food: There is a high turnover here with food so nothing sticks around long. So if you have a favorite get here early don't silly dally! I love that stuff is always fresh and tasty! This trip I got the moochi(never had it before- I know I'm so lame!), a sesame ball and hot bubble tea! I love this place for the mere fact that they can prepare hot bubble tea and never look at me like I'm crazy for wanting it! That is worth it's weight in gold. I got an almond for ol Times sakes and enjoyed it all the way home on the F train! Cost- super affordable Interior- w much to write home about. There are a lot of people who look a bit down on their luck, but don't let that keep you away. Everyone keeps to themselves unless your taking too long in the restroom! Lol Overall: I'll definitely be back when I have a craving for hot bubble tea and a treat. read more

I'm not a big fan of "American" pastries because they are all sugar-bombs. European and Asian pastries on the other hand, are more subtle in sweetness and wouldn't bloat me out the whole day. Fay Da is my go to for pastries and Hong Kong cafe savory food stuff like buns, rolls, pastries, pies and drinks. My favorites are their rectangular chicken pies (look for them inside a rotating glass container), hot dog bun and pork floss bun. Ever had tea and coffee together? No? Then you're missing out. Order one (I like it iced) and thank me later. Bubble tea tend to be more expensive than other places but other than that most stuff are pretty cheap. Fay-Da is located in front of the Forest Hill's South Queens subway exit, perfect for commuters to grab coffee and a light breakfast during the morning rush. + The bread is FRESH. The Switzerland bread, glazed in syrup, is my favorite. Delicious EVERY TIME. Also, try the variety of steamed buns (sweet potato and vegetable pork). + Even though the line is backed-up, you will check out in less than 2 minutes. It moves quick! - Napoleon pastry - I ordered a full Napoleon pastry cake which was stale and not as fresh. Avoid. Cannot comment on other pastries, but to be safe, try the pastry first before buying the whole cake. - Plastic Trays - Would be nice if there were paper sheets on the trays. It's unpleasant and unsanitary to see remnants of bread crumbs and smeared cream on the trays. Hopefully it's cleaned often. read more

When everything costs about a dollar, how can you go wrong? Grab a tray and tongs and start picking! The curry beef puff is my favorite; the savory curry is surround in a buttery crust. The lotus leaf wrap is another winner. Inside is a stew of pork, shrimp, and sausage surrounded by rice and wrapped in the lotus leaf. The pastries and sweets are good too. I haven't tried their drinks except for a refrigerated oolong tea ($2.50) which isn't as cheap as the food here. Again you have nothing to lose since everything is so cheap so try something new and different. Cash only. read more

Great for a grab and go snack/meal. Cash only.

Absolutely love their baked pork buns! Their sticky rice and hot dog buns are solid too.

I was craving dessert and I was deciding between Martha's Country Bakery and this place, which was around the block. Obviously, not in the mood to spend more than $10 on desert, I decided to pick this place. It's not that bad really. Some of the cakes taste very 'spongey' but the ones I had were ok (I tried the red velvet cupcake and NY cheesecake). I expected their milk tea to be 'Hong Kong' style as you would find with typical Asian bakeries, but it was Lipton imported from a different country. read more

This Fay Da location is almost nothing like the rest of the franchises in Chinatown, Flushing and Elmhurst. This one is more "westernized". I usually come here after 6 and most of the bread are gone (of course!). I'm still glad whenever they have some lotus leaf wraps left. I definitely suggest getting it and eating it while it's still hot and fresh! However, they make really bad drinks here. Their tea is way too strong and I can't believe they blend all the fruit in a tropical fruit drink! I'm happy that they have it on the menu since the other chains have stopped serving it but I don't want a slush! I'm well aware that it's in Forest Hills, so of course there's a lot of non-Chinese people eating but it really irks me that only one of the staff can speak Cantonese. I have no problem with broken English as my parents are broken English speakers themselves but they don't understand you most of the time here when you speak English. read more

All the bakery items are good here. It got three instead of four stars because they left an item I paid for out of my bag.

Conveniently located next to the Forest Hills Train station. I stepped in here to pick up a bagel and coffee. However, much to surprise there are bagels but filed with other lovely pastry goods. Also, they have amazing low sugar cakes. They advertised they have bubble tea as well but truthfully, I never tried bubble tea from here. But I love most of their food options. Another inconvenience is the fact they don't take credit cards. At this day, the places that don't take credit cards are really losing some customers. I understand most of their transactions will not go above $10, so it's a double edge sword. By the evening most of the pastries are sold out. I know this for fact, because I met my husband for dinner and we were just walking around Forest Hills and somehow decided to have dinner here. Most of the choices were gone. Also I wish the actually place is cleaner. For a place that serves food, I would think they would work a bit harder to keep the place bit more clean and tidy. That's the reason I took a star, it's not for the service or the food. My of their food is extremely affordable. For an example, my husband loves their curry puff pastry, it's this flaky, buttery flavored curry chicken in the middle. The middle or pastry can use more flavor but I myself love this pastry too. He also loves the egg custard. That is about .95 cents. I think it might have gone up as well. Another one of favorites is the cheese twist. This one gets sold out quickly. It's about $1.25 and its softer than a bagel and filled with toasted but not burnt cheese. We actually purchased a green tea cake for a birthday. It was for about 7 adults and had plenty left over. The cake was about $20 or so. They have ample choices such as chocolate. But I always prefer green tea/ matcha flavors. Of course, even if you buy a fruit cake the sugar is pretty low. The designs of the cakes are gorgeous. I feel like presentation is half the battle. I do love their cakes for the mere fact it's not saturated with icing. The cakes are not overly sweet but soft. Overall, I will buy most birthday cakes from here and keep coming back for the savory pastries. read more

I can't believe my eyes! A Fay Da in Forest Hills!?! And yes, it is run by 4-5 Chinese speaking ladies with fairly good English. They also speak Cantonese and Mandarin for those wishing to speak their native tongue. Fay Da serves an assortment of pastries, buns, bread, as well as coffee (Small is $1.00, Large is $1.50). Some of my favorites are the: - Curry Beef Bun ($1.50) - Perfectly flaky and crusty, with a nice subtle curry and onions. - Dry Pork Bun ($1.50) - A nice airy bread topped with dried pork bits. It has a nice salty taste for any of those wishing to wander beyond the typical Roast Pork Bun - Roast Pork Bun ($1.00) - But they also have your typical roast pork buns if you so prefer. - Hot Dog Bun ($1.00) - A full-sized hot dog surrounded by a pastry bread. Who doesn't love hot dogs? And countless other buns that I need not mention. And if you haven't had them before, it is definitely worth trying. They also have steamed buns (white buns) which are located by the cashier. My only gripe is that their bread does not rotate as quick as the Chinese bakeries in Flushing. Considering where they are, do they serve some very authentic buns as well as holding to Fay Da's recipe, but I would recommend coming in the AM as the pastries can get a bit stale by the evening hours. read more

This location is not closed. I just stopped by yeaterday. Very nice spot, close to the subway entrance with a spacious lobby. They have many of the FayDa staples like egg bun, hot dog bun, egg custards and the ever popular cakes and hot tea. I stepped out on a limb and tried a puff pastry filled with chicken and sautéed onions in the warm case. It as decent, the outer flaky layers were light and buttery just like the description! The inside was a little squishy with a bone or two but tasty in the least, sort of like a chicken pot pie had a baby with a hot pocket. And hey, it's a win win for $1.95, right? I'll be breezing through again when I'm in the area. read more

Delicious char siu pork bao and egg custard bao for only $1.50 each, very sizeable too! A delicious bite to grab on the go, they don't skimp on the filling either. Not feeling like either of these? They have a bunch of other pastries too both sweet and savoury plus a bunch of specialty cakes to purchase from the display. Like with many of these style bakeries, it's self serve, just grab a tray and tongs and pile up on whatever you're craving. Prices are between $1.50-$3.20 on average. Besides the bao selections, they supply other hot foods like curry puffs and lotus leaf wraps too. This location has a lot of seating and space and right by a train stop (Forrest hills-71 street).
