I am very conflicted as I write this review because we had a great time at Faubourg in Montclair. Initially I was disappointed in only getting a reservation in the sunroom vs the main dining room but I can assure you both are a really nice ambiance. The food was really tasty and the drinks were unique. The baba ghanoush app was very good and I had the lamb ragout for dinner which was also very tasty. Service felt kinda rushed but still pretty ok nothing to complain about. However where the restaurant lost stars was the aftermath. My friend has a severe egg allergy and the waiter assured us everything he had was egg free. However there was definitely a miss or maybe cross contamination because he went home very sick that night with the same symptoms he has when he comes into contact with eggs in his food. I do not have any allergies or sensitivity but even I was very sick that night so there was definitely something off about something we ate or drank. I would give it a second chance cause I enjoyed it but he definitely will not be. read more

Had another lovely time here at faubourg. First was a bday brunch with the fam and recent one was yesterday's night out with the ladies. Indoors was beautiful even at night and we had a great spot by the window withgood lighting and a little separated from the crowd. Service was very nice and friendly that we shared a few good laughs with our server. Unfortunately I didnt get his name. For the food, we started off with a dozen oysters which was soo good and fresh. Every piece was delicious. The Grilled octopus was perfectly cooked and blended nicely with the lentils. For entrees, I got the Ricotta Agnolotti and artichoke, which had a bit of saltiness to it but was creamy at the same time-delicious! We shared a 16oz steak and it was cooked and seasoned nicely. The Orecchiette and lamb Ragout was also cooked well and didnt taste gamey. The Seafood risotto and halibut, both in the specials, were very good too! Upscale French cuisine, but a wide open space with lots of ambient noise and a large bar area, which means - kid friendly! We brought a 1.5 year old and a 3 year old for dinner and nobody gave us any looks. Parking was impossible on a Friday night - spent about 20-30 minutes searching. There is street parking and an outdoor lot across the street with half residential parking and half meter parking, but everything was filled to the brim. In terms of food, we ordered the orecchiette pasta, as well as the octopus, salmon, beef duo, roasted chicken and coq au vin. Most of the dishes were pretty substantial, though the beef duo, while tasty, was a little bit on the small side. The roasted chicken was tender and a surprise hit with the kids. For dessert we had the chocolate coulant and apple tart, which were good, though I admit the best part of both of those desserts was the ice cream pairing. The price point is definitely on the high side, but not too unexpected. read more

Had been several times for brunch but this was our first dinner here. Had a wonderful evening. Staff was uniformly excellent, food very good, wine list deep ( markup way too high but hey that's becoming par for the course) and overall atmosphere akin to dining in a happening NYC place in the burbs. I was so excited to try when visiting family in the area (even had gotten them a gift card here prior because I heard it was great). Unfortunately the food just wasn't it. Nothing we ordered wowed me or the rest of the table. Everything felt a bit overdone in that Faubourg tried to incorporate very diverse flavors that didn't quite go with one another. Yum! We enjoyed our first visit to Faubourg. I had a reservation for 6 of us and they sat us even without the entire group being there at same time, which was nice. Our table ordered the ceviche, octopus, oysters and tarte flambé for apps. Everything was delish. For dinners we had the swordfish, grilled shrimp, branzino and steak. We also tried a number of desserts. Conner and his team were awesome at taking care of us. The space is really large and ambiance is cool. There is a public parking garage across the street and street parking is hit or miss. I'd definitely go back. read more

I really like this place! So much so that I've been there twice this year. As I try to recall the experiences I think it starts with the Host/Hostesses that I've encountered each time. They were each very pleasant and helpful while maintaing an efficient manner (a difficult balancing act). For drinks I remember having their Lemoncello and Frose, both perfect for hot summer days while enjoying their exterior seating. They've got a full bar though so if that's not your thing I'm sure they can find you something to your liking. As the name suggest, their cuisine is French and it is great! On my two trips I've tried the branzino, grilled octopus, [Kale?] salad and steak frites. Zero complaints! My only issue with the place is actually something they can't control: Parking. During lunch hours parking in the area gets difficult. After lunch hours everything clears up. Bottom Line: You have to go. The venue is clean fresh and open. The food and service is great! Beautiful place for a date or a business meet up! This was recommended by a rep and a doctor I work with and they did NOT disappoint. I came here with my husband for our wedding anniversary and we chose to sit indoors rather than outside. Upon arriving , you get a beautiful outdoor dining area, complete with a little water fountain in the middle of the restaurant. There's a long bar to the left and is a first come first serve basis. We were then brought to the main dining room indoors which was amazing. High ceilings with these amazing light fixtures that take up the whole ceiling from the front to the back of the restaurant. There is a second floor with additional seating that overlooks the first level- it was very business-y! Waiter was great and attentive which was great. We ordered half a dozen East Oysters, a mango mojito, an old fashion, the eggplant baba ganoush, grilled octopus, and a 16oz steaK with a size of lime rice. My husband was worried I would be full but I was glad I didn't have more! The good is amazing, especially the octopus. It's so hard to make octopus but they did it right. Not chewy at all and literally melted in your mouth after the first bite. My husband's steak was good and up to par and we both agreed the appetizers. My husbands 16oz steak was cooked to medium rare with a side of lime rice. Perfection. I highly recommend going to this place! It's a great place for a business meetings or a fancy date! Probably one of Montclair's Crown Jewels. However, before saying more, be aware it is not BYOB and the menu pricey on its own without adding in the alcohol costs. It's the one possible prohibitive element of choosing to dine here. Well, maybe there's another, as reservations can be a challenge and should be considered a good sign of why it's popular despite the cost. We have been here a few times. It has been only just a few as it is a challenge to get an acceptable reservation time (one acceptable to us) and we favor BYOB, given we have a fairly well stocked wine trove. That said, this is an upscale establishment that will impress any out of town guest that thinks NJ cannot compare to the NYC fine dining establishments. The place can hold its own with a French menu that is pretty competitive and has sufficient choice to please everyone. Just be sure to book well in advance for your date of choice and be prepared to spend. Otherwise, enjoy. read more

honestly surprised by all the high reviews. this place charges absurd prices for smallish portion sizes. i ordered shrimp cocktail and received a few tiny shrimp (had to ask for cocktail sauce) on a plate of veggies and charged as if it was a full meal. and this was AFTER trying to get the bartender's attention for a full 45 min. the drinks also leave something to be desired as there's hardly any sweet cocktails to choose from and you could get the same thing somewhere else for half the price. read more

Went to Faubourg for the first time over the weekend after wanting to go here for years. I has NO idea how massive the inside of this place was and how gorgeous!!! It was also ridiculously packed which speaks to the food and service quality. I got the Elvis Parsley cocktail and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. Very refreshing and with the price tag. For food we ordered the babaganoush and the artichoke & stracciatella for appetizers. The babaganoush was delicious and the crackers that they served and the vehicle for the dip was genius. They were light and perfect. The stracciatella was delicious as well and presentation was impeccable. It was just a tad messy. For dinner I got the lemon sole and my friend got the shrimp. Both dishes were gorgeous. My friends shrimp was massive and she said it was delicious and she was so glad she ordered it. The lemon sole was unbelievable. It was served over a bed of corn and mushroom mixture which was the star I could have eaten that mixture all night. The fish was also delicious and perfectly cooked and seasoned. I am only dinging them a star because they brought the appetizers then within 5 minute brought our entrees. Which was a bit of a miss. We told them that we would prefer to wait 5 more minutes and that turned into maybe 20 but I suspect that was because they were watching how slow we were eating the appetizers due to our ongoing conversation. My hope is they didn't just stick our entrees under a heat lamp during the further delay bringing them out. They were good so assuming not. First off the ambiance and aesthetic of this restaurant is beautiful! Live music with an amazing cello, the pond inside and the string lights add such a romantic touch to the place. There's so much open light and the way the tables are seated make it ideal for a gathering among friends as well. The actual men who bring out the food were lovely! Unfortunately we had a rather rude waitress but the hostess was so nice. On to the food! the highlight of the meal was the Soup du joor and steak and eggs. The drinks were tasty and fun! I recommend the lychee mimosa and the spicy pineapple margarita . We spent about 500 dollars among 8 people and we all mostly did the pre fixed menu plus an extra drink or two. I ordered the crab Benedict and was surprised it was on a piece of toast, rather than a muffin or biscuit. The toast was rather soggy. The crab meat used was very fresh. The food was just okay. Met a friend here for dinner a few years ago, and had a great experience (food, ambience), so I decided to book a table for my wife & I before going to see a film at the Claridge. What immeiately struck both of us was how LOUD the music was throughout the restaurant (we asked to change our table, but it didn't make any difference). But since we had limited time we agreed, we'll just go wth it... The music playing was sort of innocuous. Then, just before we were about to order, "Back in Black" by AC DC came blaring over the sound system. I felt like I was 15 again - and not in a good way. If the proprieters of "Faubourg" believe cranking AC DC adds to an elegant French dining experience, they are from another planet. Normally I'm not a fan of lamb however this pasta was the best thing thing I tried, a little lamb and a spicy kick cooled off with some ricotta...watch out for the pits in some olives and get this! I had the Coc a van which was ok but wouldn't get it again. Friend had the steak and said it was a 7/10...hub had the double beef and didn't let me even try it so I guess it was too good to share? A well designed restaurant from the interior to even their menu. The dishes were all great! Our favorites were : tarte flambee, orcchiette & lamb ragout, chickpea panisse. I really enjoyed their Comme De Fluer cocktail. Service was a little slow at the bar, but it might have been due to the staff changing shifts. Service at the table was excellent. Food came out quick. We had 8pm reservations on 2/15 and arrived 15 minutes early and were seated promptly. The waiter did not come to our table for 15-20minute to even take our drink order. We loved our drinks. We ordered the octopus (this was just okay. We feel the lentils took away from it). The eggplant Babaganoush and lump crab& citrus salad were both really good apps. We ordered the duck confit special. It was absolutely delicious and one of the best meals I have eaten. The service was less than expected. The waiter was no where to be found most of the time. So if I could give this place 10 stars I would. Love love love. Let's start with location, it's centrally located in Montclair happening district with lots of other shops and restaurants around. Side note, parking can be a pain but we were lucky to find street free parking but there are several pay lots around. When you walk in it's beautiful. It has this inside outside feel with beautiful lighting and greenery and flowers. The music is perfect and it totally has a vibe. The food, amazing. We ordered the Sole and shrimp pasta and oysters and bottle of wine. All amazing. We had little lemon pastry things for dessert along with coffee. 10/10.
