Fattoria E Mare in Half Moon Bay had been on our list for a while, and we finally made it over. We started with the Garlic Bread, I ordered the Bucatini Cacio al Pepe--absolutely delicious, and the tableside preparation really added to the experience. My husband had the Pepperoni pizza, and our friend tried the Paradiso pizza--both were excellent. For dessert, we shared the lava cake with vanilla gelato, the perfect sweet finish. The short rib was tasty, the mushroom carpaccio was fragrant and had a hint of truffle scent, and the ravioli was really light--everything we ate there were all amazing. Another favorite item we had that was unexpecting was the house made table bread (focaccia)--it had the perfect amount of saltiness, crunchiness, and softness. And it was freshly made. It tasted soooooo good. Our server, Joaquin, hooked it up with a second round of table bread; and gave great customer service. Very welcoming and attentive staff. Quaint ambiance inside and out. Our party had salmon salad, steak sandwich, and spaghetti and meatballs. For the most part the salmon salad was good. It was however slightly rare. Steak in sandwich could have been cooked a little more. It was undercooked and made the meat chewy. Staff did offer to make another sandwich . Spaghetti sauce was fine but didn't taste like traditional spaghetti sauce. Three meatballs that were a little tough and were a little too big. More like little meatloaves. What an amazing meal! We had a private event where they walked us to the back of the restaurant and had custom menus for everyone. It was served family style and had about 11 courses! Yes 11! This was my first time coming here on my own after attending on two different occasions with yelp - both of which were fantastic. I'm not sure if I was visiting on an off night (they also had some event going on in the main dining room) but will update this review the next time I go back. I came in with some high expectations but it just didn't quite meet them for how much I ended up paying. Fattoria E Mar embraces the seasonality of different ingredients, so I was really excited to try the seasonal pumpkin menu (even though I'm not the biggest fan of pumpkin lol). The seasonal menu was a four course meal for $85. It came with an appetizer, a pasta, a main, and a dessert. Normally, if something had the word burrata in it, I'd be on it in a heartbeat. But they recommended the pumpkin soup. It was alright - a pretty good tasting soup, though part of me wishes I got the burrata instead. The second course I got the papparadelle - that was super delicious. The first half of my meal went fine. It was the second half where things started to go not great. I got the osso bucco - which was supposed to come with butternut squash gratin, pumpkin chips, and lemon. However, I didn't realize this until after I left the restaurant and was posting to Instagram and saw my picture of the menu. They gave me an osso bucco with just potatoes on it. I got it and was like "is there supposed to be pumpkin in this??" I should have said something to the waitress when she checked in on me but I thought maybe I just couldn't taste the pumpkin or something. The day after, I ended up calling the restaurant to ask and they said that they brought out the regular version of the dish by mistake. It was still tasty but I wish someone would have noticed or I would have spoken up. They had taken the menu so I wasn't able to re-reference it in the meantime. Then the dessert came and I dunno, I think the kitchen was having a very off day. I got the butternut squash creme brulee. I wasn't the biggest fan of the flavor itself. But if that was it, I think I'd probably go with a 4 star rating. What knocks it down to three for me is that the sugar managed to be both burnt and incredibly undercooked. Like, you could see the sugar granules still on the top, giving the creme brulee a super grainy texture which wasn't that pleasant. And that part that did solidify tasted burnt. To be fair, the waitress did stop by and asked me how I liked it, and I didn't say anything. I just told her that I was super full (which was also true). But I didn't want them to try and remake something I wasn't planning on eating more of regardless, and I wanted to get on the road back home. Creme brulee with a top that poorly torched shouldn't have left the kitchen though. To the restaurant's credit, when I called to ask the next day if there was a menu change or they ran out of the butternut risotto or something, they said the kitchen made an error and invited me back with the promise of being taken care of. I look forward to taking them up on that eventually and updating this review! I really appreciated the gesture. It was, however, a very leisurely meal - not the kind of place to eat in if you're in a rush. Part of the reason I didn't call the same day was because the restaurant had already closed by the time I finished dessert. I have been looking forward to trying this place. We went for lunch today and brought an out of town guest with us. Since it was lunch we decided to order multiple things from the appetizer menu. I was disappointed. My polpettini (which wasn't too "ini") was so dense that it was stone soldi. No flavor from the sauce could have ever penetrated its interior. The sauce wasn't bad, but the meatball was nearly flavorless. I attribute its density to overworking the meat during its creation. It was large but not something I wanted to eat a lot of. Not offensive but certainly pedestrian. Our friend had the octopus appetizer and though she enjoyed its flavor, she mentioned that it was tougher than she expected. Octopus is something, like squid or abalone, that needs specific preparation to avoid its being tough or rubbery, and apparently it didn't happen here. My husband had a Caesar salad and he enjoyed it, I'm sure because there were anchovies on it and he loves them. He said, "7 of 10, but needs more anchovies," so take that with a grain of salt. He loved his garlic bread and he took his leftovers home. I ordered the bruschetta which was delicious. Also a generous portion, no skimping on the bruschetta. There was enough that we all three shared and enjoyed. All in all, I'd be hesitant to return. Neither the food nor service were awesome. It's a large, airy restaurant and was mostly empty. There appeared to be adequate staffing but they were busy with a patron known to them; when the owner or chef popped by his table to say hello, there was no acknowledgment of our booth which was adjacent. I was a bit surprised at that with almost no one else present. So, take your chances. Perhaps it was an off day or maybe dinners are better. You can let me know. read more

Cutest restaurant! Fiancée took a day trip to half moon bay and needed an early dinner after visiting Andreottis. Luckily this place was only about 8 minutes away. We did a reservation through Yelp but since we had dinner around 430, there were plenty of seats. We say outside because it was a beautiful day but the interior is adorable! Super coastal vibes. My favorite was the mussels, the flavor was very unique to be. Really fresh and I love how they added pork belly to it. Added more depth. I bad the squid ink risotto which was amazing. So much umami and loaded with seafood. The shrimp was cooked perfectly. I would pass on the bread pudding but that just be my tastebuds. I like mine really gooey and sticky but there's is a little on the drier side. Service was great, checked in frequently. read more

We held a special dinner there for 25 people. They put us in a beautifully lit back room full of windows. Every one of my friends had a favorite dish. I heard them mention the juicy salmon with crispy skin, perfectly seasoned mashed potatoes and how the scalloped potatoes reminded them of flaky pillows. I wish I had taken pictures of the beautiful dishes but as a the event organizer I was focused on everyone's experience. I will say that I highly recommend having a large event for these reasons; service and quality. We ate family style and every large dish was cooked with consistency and brought out on time. The manager Justin was alert to our needs and our server Teresa was always present with a smile. We had enough food left over to take to those unable to attend. I will always give the local restaurants my priority but it helps when those restaurants show they want your business by replying quickly and living up to their promise. Light and airy restaurant. Lovely bathroom and hand wash area. Seated quickly. Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff - my questions regarding the cheese and wine pairings were well answered. And the Bianca Soave was a good choice. The team was also very attentive.l throughout the meal, making constant loops throughout the restaurant, and clearing places and tipping off water constantly. The focaccia is made daily on house, served with a light olive oil and splash of a fruity balsamic vinegar. Very nice. For the first course, I ordered a cheese platter. Very nice presentation! The Taleka cheese is a Brie-like consistency and tastes great with the fig jam, which has a hint of rosemary . The dolce de leche was a surprise as were the almonds and orange gel. The gel drops were a bit hard but a good flavor. The fruit bread is sliced thinly but holds up well to the cheese. The octopus was beautifully presented, but sadly undercooked. The accompanying salad bouquet was delish. The wait person asked why I didn't finish the octopus and then to owner came over to apologize and offer a replacement. He insisted that I try the scallops, on the house, to make up for the disappointing octopus, which he said almost never failed. The scallops were sublime. Perfectly seared, tender interior, and topped with a light pesto or chimichurri and some Aleppo pepper. Insanely good. The octopus was removed from my bill, but I told the owner I wanted to pay for the scallops because they were so good. He refused, saying it was important to him that his guests leave happy. First off, the ambiance to this place is amazing. Its a perfect place for a romantic date night. Live music playing, nice ambient lighting, and very attentive waiters and waitresses. There was an issue with our yelp reservation at the time and it wasn't transferring to their side so we almost had to find a different place to eat. That was until the guy at the front, just sat us anyways because he felt very bad from turning away so many people (very kind act of service from him :) The best thing food-wise we got goes: Bianca pizza Pappardelle + cast iron mussels + dessert Cacio e pepe The cacio e pepe was surprisingly not that good to me. Something about the bitter aged cheese wheel didn't really taste well. I just remember it being a very bitter taste, might be good to other but not to me ;(. The pastas themselves were cooked to perfection, the one from cheese wheel and pappardelle. The pizza was soo good. My fiancé and I came for brunch. I want to preface this review with the fact that it was early afternoon and no rush. We're easy to please when it comes to food and beverage, but the experience and quality of the food was poor. We were sat outside and the day was beautiful. We weren't greeted by our server for 10mins and weren't offered water. Once we got our drink orders in we asked for iced water. They said they'd bring it right away. Didn't receive our cocktails for even longer. The table closest to us finished their entrees and had ordered dessert before we received water. By the time our food came we had finished our cocktails and were beyond hungry. The food was lackluster and tiny. We had maybe 2 bites, but from the presentation we knew we didn't want to finish. It would be one thing to have taken longer during a lunch rush and the food was delicious and filling. That was not the case for us. Please refer to the photos. We asked to close out the bill and left. When I read the receipt they didn't comp anything or offer to get us new food. Needless to say this is not the place for us. I'd recommend It's Italia! Ok here we go. I was In half moon bay to go see Ana Nuevo. I got really lucky to go on the tour. I saw all the Elephant seals .. it was quite amazing. On my way home I Yelped the local restaurant's and I settled in the Italian place after doing around and getting a Birds Eye view of the others. It's nice inside with two tv's above the bar so you can watch the game. Not something I want to do at dinner - but that's ok with me. I had no reservation and I will do that in yelped before I go in to a restaurant in the future. The food was good . One was a margarita pizza , the prosciutto pizza and they made to order my kids spaghetti. I liked it. I had the spaghetti with olive oil with Parmesan cheese. Mmm. There's reasons for it. We wanted to have date night in beautiful Half Moon Bay and we decided to have Fattoria e Marre because we were craving Italian food. The restaurant is gorgeous; the ambiance is so romantic and cozy, perfect for dates. However, when we arrived, we were told our reservation was cancelled due to a discrepancy between the Yelp reservations and their system. The staff was very accommodating and sat us without many issues. We started off with the iron skillet grilled pei mussels, which left much to be desired. The thick cut bacon was not completely rendered down and the cabbage was quite bitter. Personally, I felt that the dish had clashing flavor profiles and did not enjoy it. We were initially looking forward to the cacio e pepe as they prepare it table side with a large cheese wheel. However, the cheese had a slightly off, bitter taste which did not compliment the dish at all. The pappardelle was definitely better, with al dente wide fettuccine and a braised short rib and tripe sauce. Although I felt as though it lacked the depth that would be found in other short rib dishes. The star of the table was definitely the pizza bianca. Another great dining option out on Main St. I think they may be one of the newer ones out here and I think they transplanted this from Burlingame to more weekend touristy Half Moon Bay. I think they may be a better fit out here as it seems the owners with its SF dining scene experience, can relay their concept to peeps out in more splurge mode, versus just day to day dining. Pretty casual but with a finer dining edge. Quirky in style with furniture like you'd see in an artsy boutique and lots of paintings/art that seem from people they know. People in shorts/hot weather gear galore and lots of natural light just made this a very comfy out for me. Server I got was very easy going with a nice relaxed pace. Nothing came out too fast nor too slow. Menu mostly Italian inspired but with dead on California ingredients. Well ran show. Pasqua Pinot Grigio ($14/5*) Perfect for a warm late afternoon outing. Crisp, cool with a stone fruit edge. Butter Lettuce Salad ($16/5*) I'm sure this is on their menu year round as their basic salad, but they'll just rotate ingredients around according to season. On my mid summer out it was whole tender leaves of butter lettuce tossed in a perfectly balanced yet tangy white balsamic vinaigrette. Summer touches were thin sliced fresh peach, some sliced almonds and chunks of goat cheese. Nice opener. Seafood Linguine a la Limone ($35/5*) I think they're evolving this dish as when I saw past pics, it looked more like a traditional seafood pasta with neutral colors. When my bowl arrived it was a vibrant green, that looked dead on like a pesto'd pasta. But upon trying it wasn't anywhere near a conventional pesto as this had zero basil. But it seems they did make a pesto of sorts with cilantro and green onions and used that to flavor the sauce. With the zing of lemon and garlic just made for exquisite bites to go along the fresh seafood. The seafood that day were large clams in the shell but there were also little bits of just chopped clam bits throughout the pasta, so it seemed like there were a clam bite in every bite. Then there were about 4 large perfectly sauteed prawns that I could actually cut with a knife, they were that large. And with a mound of perfectly cooked linguine and their toasted homemade foccacia, just made this a clean plate award winner. Pistachio Panna Cotta ($13/4*) I usually love most panna cottas, but I've never had a pistachio version. Light green that it almost looked like an Asian green tea version. Pistachio flavor was indeed there, but this was a heavier version of panna cotta to me. Most are usually crazy light. This had more of 'pudding' texture. And it was topped with a stabilized cream of sorts, tasted creamy but it wasn't basic whipped cream. This was more dense but it really didn't taste like anything but cream. Just wished it had some special flavor to it, couldn't even detect any vanilla. And topped with some candied pistachios with a super sticky exterior that I was worried that it might pull a filling out. Lol. Capped off a nice day hiking and absorbing the area, would repeat in a Half Moon heartbeat. read more
