Stopped by this afternoon for nourishment after test driving a car nearby. Ordered one of their pork chop bento boxes and a large taro milk tea (with boba). Bill was about $20 and the food took about 10 minutes to prepare. The tea was very good and I finished it quickly. I was less impressed by the bento box - the pork chop was dry and the rest of the ingredients a bit greasy. But I was hungry so polished it all off. Plenty of parking outside, and they have adequate seating, but there is no customer bathroom. Happy to return for more boba tea. read more

Craving boba and was near Fat Straw so we went for it. The complex this was in was pretty quiet so plenty of parking around. They have crane games and this cool cotton candy machine inside with shiny fluorescent lights. You order on a kiosk like most boba places nowadays. We got popcorn chicken and some drinks. We didn't wait to long and everything was ready. Verdict? It's eh. The popcorn chicken is a miss for me. Tasted old. I stopped eating it but my bf finished the bag. The drinks were okay. Check out this place near my work, really excited for the boba I wish they can do rose, lavender and vanilla fix it on the milk tea. I chose black tea for it but unfortunately it was sour taste and I know rose and black tea goes well together. It's really different and made my stomach hurts.. the good thing the boba are chewy. 3/5 Nutella Waffle was good crispy and lots of Nutella. I've been going to this place for years, started in high school and now i'm in college. It's been my favorite spot for boba, and i've always loved bringing friends to try. My mom and I have gone in many times together and the owner has even memorized our orders. The food is pretty good, I've gotten many different things but my favorite is the potstickers. Things I liked: Really cute inside the store!! I loved all the decor and the aesthetic. In addition to the boba drinks, lots of snacks to choose from if you're feeling peckish (jalapeño poppers, mozzarella sticks, etc). The woman at the counter was really sweet :) I ordered a Thai tea with boba, and the Thai tea was really good! Also ordered some mozzarella sticks, and I liked the sauce they came in. Things I didn't like: to be honest the boba itself was a bit too squishy for my taste! I prefer when boba is a bit more cohesive, but these boba pearls were softer/saggier than I'm used to. The mozzarella sticks were good (I think it was 5 sticks for maybe $5ish?) but I wish they'd been microwaved longer, because the cheese wasn't really softened or gooey inside at all. I am extremely disappointed. I ordered the taro smoothie as well as the fried tofu. They asked me if I wanted mild or spicy and of course I opted in the mild. Though it took a few minutes for the tofu to cook, and in the meantime, I was sipping on the taro smoothie. To my surprise, the drink was delicious. However, as soon as I got the tofu, it came with some salty brown sauce. It was almost too salty for my taste bud. I'm surprised they did not use sweet chili Thai sauce, like just about every other restaurant that sells fried tofu. Not impressed and definitely I would have to avoid their fried tofu in the future. they could even use hoisin sauce instead of whatever sauce they served with. I can't go higher than three star rating with this location. Lastly, The customer service needs to improve. Upon stepping into Fat Straw Cafe, I felt like I was transported right back to the early 2000's, going to HK and Taiwanese-style cafes as a kid when my mom decided to get us a little treat. With easy parking within a plaza and a spacious location with both indoor & outdoor seating, it's a menu/interior revamp away from being *the* trendy, cute place for drinks in the area. The service is friendly though there is, understandably, a little wait if you want food items, since they are prepared to order. Drinks: 3/5, pretty mediocre, a bit watery, and didn't taste too fresh; I would put them on the same tier as a drink from Quickly, probably. Not undrinkable, by any means, but not great. Plain bubble waffle ($4.75): 3/5, lacking the egg flavor that you'd normally expect from egg/bubble waffles; the batter was a little dry and tasted more like regular waffles. Popcorn chicken ($5.50): 5/5, delicious!! Crispy and flavorful but still tender inside, and super hot since it came straight out of the kitchen. Definitely amongst the better popcorn chicken I've had at a boba spot, especially in this area; it's a must-try if you're at Fat Straw. The old booths and boba posters actually add to the charm if you miss the kinds of spots that were around before boba shops became super trendy. However, there are improvements that could be made to some of the menu items-- while I don't need every cafe to be "Instagrammable", I do expect basics like regular milk tea with pearls to be a little better. read more

Moved to the area and found this spot down the street from where I live. It's a cute little boba stop that also sells food. My favorites are the chocolate smoothie (reminds me of Quickly/Tapioca Express and my childhood before I liked milk tea) and the green milk tea. I will occasionally get the popcorn chicken. I just wish it was open a little past 8 but overall a decent spot for boba not in Downtown. Service has always been good as well. read more

I come in smiling and polite. The owners are not friendly and I would even go further to describe them as sassy and defensive if there is any issue with your drink. It's true, the milk teas are watered down. I did not even ask for a different level of sweetness. From reading other reviews apparently you can't even ask for that level of detail anyway. But even if you can, I still wouldn't trust their ability to execute it. I even returned multiple times thinking that maybe it was an off day. But yet it happened more than once. Thus it's a crapshoot as to what level of sweetness you're getting and it weighs heavy on the none! That's great you say? Since maybe no sweetness is your jam, then again you might get full sweetness that day. Again a crapshoot. Too many other boba places around to patronize who have better customer service and better milk tea. I honestly came here because I mistakenly thought this was a Bay Area version of Fat Tuesday from Vegas and I thought it would be cool to check out. When I came here, I saw it was actually a boba shop which was even better to be honest. The shopping plaza/parking lot can get a bit busy and hectic though. It reminded me of those OG boba shops (like in Chinatown) that sell boba, desserts, and snacks. I tried the green milk tea with boba because it is hard to go wrong with such a basic drink at a new spot. Boy was I wrong, the milk tea was so bitter and it tasted like herbal medicine - I am not sure why, maybe the syrup that they used or something. We, my family & I are always on the look out for boba places that serve Thai Tea, Almond Milk Tea, & Coconut Smoothie. Strangely, often times one or more of these items is not available. To our surprise, Fat Straw Cafe had all 3!!! The drinks were cheaper than other chain stores, a good 1st sign! Each was just sweet enough without compromising flavor. We also ordered the Nutella Waffle & Lobster Balls. Nutella waffle was light & though dusted with powdered sugar was not too sweet. It was a little thicker than pancake and not as crunchy as a waffle. Tearing the "balls"'was fun. It was the perfect snack to pair with our drinks. I got the oolong milk tea, coconut milk tea, and mango passionfruit smoothie. The milk teas were both super watery. The smoothie was incredibly sweet. The tapioca balls were hard, they are supposed to be chewy but these weren't cooked all the way. I was very disappointed when trying the teas. They got me with the name, but the drinks weren't great. If you want really good boba I don't recommend it here. I also did get the bubble waffles, which are the same thing as egg puffles. I will say those were good to eat. Although it had the smallest scoop of ice cream, it was good enough and served nicely. It is served in a plastic cup so the steam will soften up any crunch. I was disappointed with my drink. I ordered a Taro milk tea, one of my favorite milk teas to get anywhere I go. I added regular Boba and lychee jelly which was a good choice, but the milk tea itself tasted so artificial. There was not a sweetness level I could choose from, and the amount of milk teas available were already very limited. The drink was so sweet and I found it had no Taro flavor at all, just an artificial and imitation flavor of taro. Not sure if that makes sense, but usually you can tell when there is real taro in the drink or not because it is thicker and not so sweet. Came here today for the first time!! I was super stoked that Livermore finally had another bubble tea place open, because you can never go wrong with bubble tea. My friend and I walked in, and immediately marveled at how immaculate, yet cute the place is! The gentleman taking our orders was really nice and complied with our request for light ice, since we decided to share a large bubble tea. It's pretty huge!! So my recommendation is that if you're not particularly hungry, you'd be better off getting a small, because even then, you are getting quite a bit of tea!! They are generous with proportions, and the prices are fair. I would definitely say this is my go-to bubble tea place in the area.
