I had a great time here for Sunday brunch. The girls requested cranberry mimosas and wow, were they good. Of all the things on the menu, I got the avocado toast and a side of grits and debris gravy. The avocado toast was good with a balsamic drizzle and the grits and debris were good, as well. The next time I visit, I'm getting the biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon. My wife and I returned to the Fat Spoon in Covington and enjoyed another great breakfast. She had her fav the Greek omelet and I had the Eggs NOLA specialty. Both were great, as was the coffee, and the service was friendly and efficient. I wanted to give them a higher score, but.... Took my husband here for his birthday. I wanted to try a new place. You could see the restaurant from the he street, very bright and big sign. Parking was great, its in a strip mall. The restaurant was clean inside and out. The restroom was also clean...tv's on all 4 corners of the restaurant. So, why did I give it a 3? We walked into the restaurant and was not greeted. The girl behind the counter never acknowledged us. We took a seat because you can pick your own seat and it. But none of the staff greeted... It took a minute before the young lady came, she was nice but I wouldn't say friendly, but cordial. The food was good. I had the avocado toast, which was tasty, but I could have done without the balsamic that was drizzled on it. It was really thick. My husband had the grits, eggs, sausage and a waffle. He liked it, but he said the waffle was a little dry. Oh yeah! They only have whole milk, no other options. This location is pretty bad I won't be back. I simply ordered two eggs over easy, a biscuit, ham and hashbrowns. The biscuits come out cold because they sit in a basket on the shelf in the kitchen because the Cook is too lazy to keep them warm. He's also too lazy to make fresh hashbrowns because he takes frozen french fries and cuts them up a little pieces, and they're terrible and cold for some reason the ham even came out cold. The only thing decent were the eggs they were cooked perfectly. I'd fire the Cook get somebody somebody in there that knows what they're doing and it might actually get better but the staff is not very friendly either. My father and I went to the one on Highway 21 / S. Tyler yesterday. It was the first time I've ever been there as well as for my father. The staff greeted us and even opened the door for us to go in the restaurant. The restaurant was probably half full and everyone was giving off a calm and relaxed vibe in probably a low-grade steampunk type of decor with high ceilings and an enormous fan. I had looked at the menu on Yelp and was determined to either have the Cuban sandwich or the Reuben. Dad and I each got both of those and swapped for half a sandwich of each as well as trying sweet potato fries and regular fries. Everything was completely fresh and hot and, I have to mention that I was jonesing for this food, and magically it delivered to be even greater and yummier than my expectations. There are other places in the Covington area that have similar menus but they don't hold a candle to this place. Prices are mostly reasonable given the economy and you can actually sit at the bar to eat if you're alone. High props for a very clean environment as well. read more

The shrimp and grits was the most decadent breakfast I have ever eaten. Absolutely perfect!! The service was nice. We had a party of 5 and everyone's meals were timely. The staff sang happy birthday and brought out a delicious bread pudding with a candle. It was the perfect cheery start to a long day, The restaurant and restrooms were clean and bright. Recently while on a business trip for the subsea robotics company I work for in California, I wanted some good southern style biscuits and gravy. The hotel concierge directed me to the Fat Spoon Cafe exclaiming "they have the biggest and best biscuits around". I just knew I had to try them out. At the cafe, Shelley welcomed me with her colorful personality and wonderfully colorful hair. I discovered quickly that the huge biscuits did live up to the hype and the gravy was perfectly smooth without the typical overpowering flavors of pepper or salty chunks of sausage. I highly recommend The Fat Spoon Cafe as everything seemed fresh including the food and all of the waitress' enthusiasm. Definitely check it out! read more

We ate here one year ago on our way to Destin, FL and loved it...the food was excellent and the service good. We were happy to find a good place to stop for breakfast as we visit Destin every year. This time, however, was a COMPLETELY different story. When our food STILL hadn't arrived after 30 minutes, we finally asked the waitress about it. She stated that she'd been checking on it but the kitchen was backed up. Not one minute later, the head server shows up with our food which had CLEARLY been sitting under heat lamps as the food was lukewarm and dried out. I am puzzled by the other reviews because my husband and I went here for the first time for breakfast and what we got was outstanding! I had the NOLA Eggs Benedict and it was yummy! The eggs were poached perfect for me and the fried tomato and sautéed musadded a wonderful flavor! My hubby had the more traditional two eggs (again cooked exactly as ordered) with bacon which was delicious as well. Prices were reasonable and we had plenty to eat and the service was excellent. We are looking forward to returning maybe for lunch the next time Went again for lunch today! Service was great! I had the Steakhouse burger and it was outstanding! Highly recommend! I genuinely like the food at Fat Spoon, I have dined at all their locations for breakfast. The entrees that I have tried are always good. Last Sunday, I added an order of biscuits and sausage gravy. The biscuits are good but unless you like cheap sausage gravy out of a can from the grocery store, I wouldn't recommend paying the extra 5.99. I was disappointed that a place claiming to be a breakfast restaurant would serve something so obviously unauthentic. Hopefully they read this and make a change...I doubt I'll be ordering it, but maybe if they' start advertising "homemade", I'll give them another shot. read more

Today as we walked in we were asked how many people I said 4 and the hostess said sit anywhere you like. We went to sit at a table with 5 chairs my husband is handicapped and we had 2 small children so we were trying to distance ourselves from other patrons. A server came running over asking if we had 5 people and could we move to a 4 top keeping it available for parties of 5. This place was by no means busy. There was a limited menu which is understandable at this time. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and the croissant was burned. My fries had way too much pepper on them. The two kids got sliders or small sized hamburgers and they were burned and dry with stale buns and again way too much spice on fries...they're 2 and 3. My husband got the crawfish etouffee and said although good it was more rice than sauce. Even the iced tea was suspect. Overall a very bad experience. read more

Our waitress was not friendly disorganized and I'm not sure if her section was in a different part of the place than us but we seemed to have been forgotten about. The restaurant is clean fresh and airy. The food is average with the usual breakfast foods. The grilled sandwiches tend to be greasy and the pork po boy sandwich really was not very flavorful. The salad selection seemed to be the best selection although not really above average. We went there with my son and daughter in law and my husband over the Holiday weekend for a nice breakfast. Our server was pleasant and made several suggestions. They also had bloody mary's on the menu but when we ordered they actually did not have them??? The parking lot was full so I expected them to be packed however when we went in it was almost empty. We could have ordered from either the.breakfast or Lunch menu so we chose lunch. We ordered the steakhouse burger which was great and the trio sliders. A couple of things, if you want your sandwiches dressed, you have to let them know exactly what you want on every sandwich down to the mayonnaise. The fries tasted like seasoned fries but nowhere on the menu did it mention that the fries were seasoned. The fries were soggy and not crisp at all. The hamburger was very good, seasoned well. The roast beef slider was very dry, no gravy or anything in it but the beef. Service was very lacking. Our order was taken very fast but there was no follow up. We passed by the Fat Spoon Cafe, Covington, this past Sunday, May 29th. It was around 1:00 and I checked and noticed that they closed at 2 so we stopped in. The food was okay. The very young immature blonde waitress we had didn't want to be there. At 1:40 or 1:45, a big party came in. There was in older woman/waitress, blond hair pulled up, that was sooo nasty behind these people's back! She was rolling her eyes along with our waitress and a few other. Making comments that could hear at my table. Like Oh Well, they have 15 minutes. blah blah blah. RUDE! Someone in the party picked up on it and they decided to leave. She seemed to be like a manager or assistant manager because she was other than the rest. I can't blame them for leaving. I won't go back after seeing that. I mean, if a restaurant closes as 2:00 p.m., shouldn't someone be able to come in at 2?? If not, their closing time should say 1:30 because that's the last table that came in before the big one and they let them stay without comments.
