Today was a totally different experience with Fat Larry's. They have fallen off my list of good places to eat in Bartlett. The portions they serve now won't even satisfy a child Much less the working crowd that eat here on a regular basis. I promise you they have downsized the plate (8") so it looks like the regular portion, but it's not. The chicken livers were over cooked and the burnt ends were all fat. We lived a street over from here for years before trying and it will forever be one of my biggest regrets. Fat Larry's is by far some of the BEST food around. It's perfectly southern, fried, BBQ perfection. I haven't had a single there that wasn't perfect. The steak was one par with five star restaurants in Memphis. Fat Larry's visit number 2; I ordered the 8oz filet. It comes with a baked potato and a small roll. The meat was thin and I'm not real sure it was a full 8 oz. It was over-cooked but still pretty good. I have a thing against places that serve these thin steaks. It seems that they are never cooked to order and always end up over-cooked. Go with the BBQ instead. I rated it slightly above average on another review. read more

Southern hospitality and Memphis bbq at it's finest is found in abundance here at Fat Larry's. Now I'm not a local but I do know service and BBQ. Fat Larry's, yes is a hole in the wall, but do t let that deter you at all from. Coming here. The bbq nachos are great, it's the perfect mixture of tortilla chips, pulled pork and bbq sauce. It's really a great way to start your meal. My kiddo had the chicken strips which she really enjoyed. The wife had the prime rib, which came out large and perfectly cooked. My mother's shrimp dish was just as good. The owner really came up to help out with my moms meal since they were low on shrimp. She settled with 5 fried and 5 grilled. I had the bbq plate of muddied ribs, pulled pork and brisket. The ribs were fall of the bone fantastic. The pulled pork was great. The brisket was good and went well with the sauce. The sides were just as good. The baked beans were unique and meaty. The Cole-slaw has a refreshing texture, was light and creamy. We had dessert to! The homemade strawberry pie didn't over power you sweetened it was just right. Lastly the service was great, the waitress who just started today was very friendly. The owner was very kind and humble. Overall we had a great time here, the food and service are top notch. I highly recommend any local or tourist to stop by and give Fat Larry's a try. read more

We've only been doing carry out during the pandemic but Fat Larry's has never failed to provide great, friendly service and fantastic food. I usually get ribs which are always excellent and my personal favorite in the Memphis area, so I don't have much experience with other menu items but one Friday night the special was the smoked prime rib. This review is for the take out. Customer service: after a long road trip drive, we were unable to get a dinner reservation for nine people and decided to do take out instead. The wait took more than 45 minutes to just get takeout. Ambiance: n/a since this was a takeout order Food: few items were good but the most was a huge miss. - the pork ribs was dry no matter how much sauce was on it. I bought the sampler #2, and onion rings. I was quite disappointed. Being from Memphis, bbq to means low and slow cooked in a pit. The ribs, brisket, and pulled pork tasted like they were all cooked in an oven, and reheated on the outdoor bbq grills, which give a great smoky ambiance, but very little flavor. The chicken tasted a day or two old, and I threw it away. Even my cats wouldn't eat it. The homemade "sauce" was mostly ketchup, and way too sweet. The onion rings were greasy, but otherwise unremarkable. The cole slaw was old, and should have been thrown out three or four days ago. The beans as a side were the highlight of the meal, though overly sweet with the ketchup sauce. I wish I had gone to Tops, instead. I would have had a better meal for $20 less. read more

Unfortunately this place has gone down as far as customer service and food taste. Its not the same since they got rid of there cook. Ordered a steak medium it took about an hour, let that go. Came out and it extremely well done. They offered another steak I said no it had taken an hour for that one I was scared to wait again. so they said we will take your steak off. my steak was 35.99 they took off 28.00. I questioned, thought it was a mistake. they said no we charged for your free sides that come with the steak. So not only did we wait forever and the steak was bad I was charged for free sides. Old school bbq joint, they have steaks also. Seems like a neighborhood haunt. The parking can be challenging to get in and out of. I went pretty late, so the food probably wasn't up to their usual standards. I didn't hear the ding, but the pork was probably warmed up in the microwave. The ribs were so so. Brisket had a charbroiled flavor to it. The fresh pork rinds were hot and still popping when they came out. Overall, a good experience. I would like to come back and visit earlier in the day and see if things are different. Nothing fancy, just old fashioned bbq without all the hype you find at some places. Tasty Smoked Prime Rib My wife and I have been to Fat Larrys a number of times through the years. Consistently good food, great steaks - and Pork Chops, that's right, Pork Chops - and now, Smoked Prime Rib. I did not know that they had Smoked Prime Rib. I had not even thought about the combination, but it really works and tastes great. They presently only have it on Friday and Saturday, and we happened to be there. Good smoke. Good flavor. Good tender, tasty Prime Rib. Even the large baked potatoes were good. Still haven't had their ribs yet - I know, I know, but it's on our list. Maybe on yours too? The next time you go to Fat Larry's - or when you go to try it out - be sure to try the Smoked Prime Rib, or Steak, or Pork Chops. Walking up to the building, you'll notice a small patio if you have an incredibly strong desire to be outside. Walk into the building and you'll see two dining rooms. Then realize that this building has been here awhile. Walk in, get seated, and plan on having a good lunch. I'm a repeat customer and usually go for lunch here and usually visit about once every two months. If you are coming for lunch, you need to knw that this place is busy from 1100 to 1300 so plan your time accordingly. Today, I asked the waitress how late the place serves lunch and she said until they run out or 1500. Rest assured, the lunch menu is more than satisfactory with daily plate lunches unless you are a picky eater. Today, along with a friend, we stopped by for lunch about 1330 and there were still plenty of costumers in the dining room. My friend ordered the catfish and I ordered the hamburger steak. Our meals came quickly and our lunches were well prepared. The waitress, and I never got her name, made fresh coffee for me - many thanks.
