Today I happened to be 7 minutes away, & had well over an hour to kill, so it was time to return. Small to medium venue with a nautical theme. Very sparse street parking, but there is a free public lot behind it, with a walkthrough that comes out right AT Fat Fish Taco. Fast, friendly, & fun service. The employees were just having a good time, & they draw you into it with them. They were joking around with me cause I came to a fish taco place & didn't get any fish tacos, LOL. Wifey and I have been talking about going to Fat Fish Taco for eight years - since they opened - but we FINALLY made it last night. And we. Both agreed we were idiots for waiting so long. This place reminded both of us of being in a Jersey shore restaurant - pleasing and simple decor, friendly people, and good food. They were mostly filled when we got there, but we were seated immediately and started looking over the menu. We opened our wine (yep, it's BYOB) and they brought us some glasses. It was pretty tough deciding what to have. First we considered an appetizer and a couple tacos each, but then the table next to us got their nachos and we decided on those and one taco each. We ordered the nachos with chicken, Wifey got the Baja taco and I had the Blackened Sole taco. Man...it was all good. Kudos to the owner, Steve, and the wait staff. The tacos were delicious and everything tasted so fresh. The nachos were great too, though I would have liked more chicken on them. The chips tasted fresh and everything on top was just amazing. We finished off the evening with a slice of Key Lime pie with two spoons. It's not a stretch to say this is the best Key Lime pie I've ever eaten...anywhere. I still can't believe there's a fish taco place in New Jersey. The host, Mike, was extremely hospitable. He asked if I was a first-timer, and upon my yes, explained that the tacos here are served as 6" diameter singles (I.e., one taco per order). I sat down to dine in on a quiet Sunday and Mike turned on the music to create an atmosphere. I was a huge fan of the blackened fish taco, which had a tremendous chipotle and blackened seasoning that I still remember days after my meal. In contrast, I wish the Baja, which featured beer battered cod, had had more salt or fish flavor; it definitely came across as fresh and light. Awesome takeout service with curbside delivery direct to our car. Mask, gloves, on time in beginning of May 2020. We ordered guacamole and chips. The guacamole was delicious, dense and chunky. The restaurant-made chips were crispy and light, with some puffed up. A great starter. For mains, we ordered the cod burrito, the blackened sole burrito, plus two Buffalo Shrimp tacos and two Spicy Shrimp tacos. Both types of shrimp tacos were superb, flavorful, spicy, with good cabbage and tomato fresh salsa. They were different from one another and we would order both again. The fish burritos were immense with fish, rice and beans. They were good but we were more impressed by the tacos and plan to try more of the taco options such as pork belly. We actually had so much food we were able to have a second complete meal. All in all, super impressed. Seemed appropriate to post this on Cinco De Mayo. I had the Lobster Roll today at Fat Fish Taco for the first time: Just incredible! Loaded with large pieces of Lobster Claw and served with a seasoned butter on a toasted top sliced roll. Best Lobster Roll I have ever had! My wife had the Bang Bang shrimp taco and her only complaint was that it was hard to eat it as a taco because it was so filled with shrimp. I've eaten at Fat Fish many, many times and never had a bad meal. No, I should rephrase that...I've eaten at Fat Fish many times and had an outstanding meal every time! Went for lunch. The service was great but things were slow. He was super friendly and very knowledgeable. The taxis were outstanding. They are not huge so expect to order three which is great because you get to try three different tacos. I was in the area and looking for a good lunch spot and Fat Fish popped up. I LOVE tacos so I was excited to come give this place a try. It's minutes from Caldwell University and my favorite thing about the location had to be that there was parking in the back of the restaurant. I had finding a great food spot but parking is a hassle, so this was a major plus for me. We went in around 1pm on a Thursday afternoon and there was only 1 table occupied so we were seated immediately. I ordered the spicy and bang bang shrimp tacos and my date had the shrimp quesadillas. The spicy shrimp was delicious and the bang bang was good too, but I don't love pineapples on my food so it was a little outside of my comfort zone. Our favorite part about our meals was the seasoned fries ! They were so yummy. I deff recommend adding them as a side. Other thoughts: I love the nautical aesthetic of the place. It even carries into the bathroom. Though I thought the mirror was too high, if you're 5'5 and under be prepared to not be able to look into the mirror. FINGER-LICKING GOOD! That's the term that comes to mind when I think about the food I devoured at Fat Fish Taco! Whoa, where do I even start? Or should I start at all? What else needs to be said?? This place is taco heaven! Ahh here's the deets: I arrived on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30pm and the restaurant was 95% empty...what? How?! Anyway, the waitress promptly greeted us and told us the specials for the day. After we ordered, it took less than 10 minutes for the food to come out. Everything we ordered was delicious! The lobster roll taco (which I highly recommend ) was very good! Whoever came up with the idea of this lobster roll taco is a genius! I mean, I literally had a party in my mouth! The spicy shrimp taco was also great, and had just enough spice to give it a little kick without making it too hot. The old bay fries? AMAZING! They came out hot & crispy and the old bay seasoning made me do a dance in my seat! Most of the tacos are $6 each which may seem like a lot, but they give you more bang for your buck here! The taco of the day price is more money, so I suggest asking the price difference before placing your order. The restaurant is small but there's lots of tables and chairs. It's decorated nicely & they play a good selection of music for your listening pleasure! There is plenty of street parking available, but you have to feed the meter. Very Solid Food! I hadn't ordered from Fat Fish Taco for awhile but it's never been for lack of quality. Instead, the biggest knock on the restaurant may be their location. You'll be hard pressed on a busy night to find parking as there is only a small parking lot and street parking to rely upon. That being said, I've never been disappointed with the food. I ended up ordering the Buffalo Tempura Shrimp Burrito, Old Bay Fries, and of course I had to go with a side of guacamole. The Buffalo Tempura Shrimp Burrito was very tasty, fresh, and definitely had a nice punch of spice. While there are some restaurants that tend to go very light on the protein, there was a satisfactory portion of shrimp in the burrito. The Old Bay Fries are very subjective to your tastebuds. I ended up ordering it because it was recommended and I quickly remembered how salty the flavor could be. With all due respect to my Maryland friends and fans of Old Bay, this may peak your interest if it's your type of thing. The guacamole was notably fresh and maybe a little strong on the onion flavor but otherwise a nice tangy experience. Fat Fish Taco is a quality restaurant that is an ideal spot to come with your friends or loved ones based on their delicious food. The parking is not my favorite but if you could look past that minor inconvenience you're in for a great time. read more

WOW! First of all, superb service. We were seated right away and our server was so helpful. The place is small but can seat a lot of people. Nicely decorated and gives off a very homey feel. One of the best tacos I've ever had, seriously. I got a blackened fish taco and a baja taco. Both were really delicious. My favorite was the blackened fish, I think I'm gonna dream of it tonight. The cod on the baja was fried to perfection, there was a lot of slaw but hey gotta get my veggies in somehow! The pico de gallo was fantastic too. We also got chips and guac as an appetizer and while the chips were homemade and delicious, the guac was missing a little spice or kick to it. Still great tho, very clean taste. Price wise, tacos average around 5-6 dollars each. At first I thought it was pretty steep for one taco but when you see their size of each one and the amount of food on the tortilla, it's completely worth the price. Also, don't sleep on the taco specials for the day! My date got a spiced apple chicken taco that looked delicious! The only reason I didn't give fat fish a 4 or 5 is due to lack of portion size. It's honestly criminal being charged 18 dollars for the smallest amount of pork I've ever seen! My burrito was literally 80 percent rice and beans. Being in the food business I know for a fact that burrito cost maybe 2.75 tops to make. Very disappointing. Hell yes, this place is awesome. Food is fresh, creative and delicious. I'd driven by a bunch of times but never had the opportunity to stop in until a few weeks ago and man was I glad I did. It was one of the few places I've been to where I wished I could have eaten literally the entire menu. Yeah, everything looked that good. I also love the idea that an order is ONE taco. It gives you the opportunity to delve a lot deeper into their menu and again, there wasn't a single thing on there that wouldn't have made me excruciatingly happy. I read several other reviews that complained about prices. Fish isn't cheap. We've all seen the Discovery Channel shows that illustrate how frigging difficult it is to catch these bastards, never mind transport, filet and cook them. You want cheap fish, go for a McFilet thing or whatever the hell it's called. You want delicious & fresh, be prepared to fork over $5 which, by the way, is a hell of a lot better deal that a frigging late at Starbucks which costs about the same. I'm going to make a conscientious effort to try pretty much everything on each subsequent visit to this little gem. You should probably do that, too. Kudos. read more

The waiter (who wanted to argue with me instead of getting new chips ) said, with an attitude, "they were just made" and I said I have a hard time believing that. I'd been here a handful of times and decided to come back for lunch with colleagues. They opened at 12pm the day we came so we got there as soon as they opened. We were seated fast (party of 6) and our drinks and food orders were taken soon after. I ordered the Baja Taco and Pork Belly Taco, both of which I've had before. It came with a good serving of rice and beans. The fish was light and flaky and crispy and the pork belly was nice and tender. Taco portions are really good so 2 was just right for lunch without feeling like I'm about to throw up. All orders came out together and everyone seemed pretty pleased with their food. Let me begin with the food- fresh, flavorful, fabulous!! I had the Baja and the Bang Bang Tacos (see photo), and because it was "taco Tuesday", they provide free rice & beans (which was equally as delicious-not basic at all). It was presented beautifully & full of fresh ingredients that worked so well in harmony together! Secondly, the service. Greeted with a genuine hello and smile from everyone working there. You could tell they actually enjoyed being there & it made for such a friendly, comfortable environment. Even the customers were chatting with each other and no one felt like a stranger. I just had to update my review and add another star! (for two reasons) I've become a regular to the point that they recognize me when I come in! But mostly because their food is a delicious as the first time I ate here. My favorites are still the Buffalo shrimp tacos and their nachos! I usually have chicken added to them. Probably the best nachos in the area! Lot's of toppings! Strictly take out for me since I only live five minutes away and it's WAY too loud inside. The nachos were fantastic, even though we didn't get any meat on them, i thought they were perfect the way they were. Since the name implies that they specialize is fish tacos, how could i resist. We ordered a Mahi taco, blackened fish taco and the Baja taco. Each taco was overstuffed with their selection of fish. Each was tasty. I have to say the Blackened Fish was a little more spicy than i was expecting, but it was still great. Can't say I have a favorite just yet, but i plan on coming back to do more research. The only thing i would change here is the acoustic. While there were only 3 other tables eating while we were there it was really loud and difficult to have a normal conversation without shouting.
