Red snapper in traditional Portuguese fish red sauce.
    Wayne L.

This is a great rating for my standards. I get special access to fine dining and usually only rate good experiences. This seaside restaurant is about an hour outside of Lisbon and is a favorite place for tour guides to take their clients. I don't know if there's a kick back, but regardless, it was a good lunch. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. The restaurant is airy and bright. The scenery is fantastic. Panoramic views in every dining room. We ate the sea bass baked in a covering of salt. See picture. Be aware, 45 minutes to bake. The fish was perfect and fresh. Not salty as you would expect. The salt really captures the moisture. Comes with shredded string beans, potatoes, and yam. Feeds two. We had a big party, so we ordered grilled calamari. Very tender and savory. The seafood risotto had shrimp, grilled lobster, and crab. The rice was soft and had a nice touch of Parmesan cheese (at least that's what it tasted like). Then there was the red snapper in traditional Portuguese red sauce. The fish was grilled and meaty. Too often it's overcooked in a broth. Very nice. We did order a couple of pork chops. Don't ask. But they were juicy and savory as well. This is a great place for a party or special occasion, date night. Your date will appreciate the location, scenery, and ambiance. Better plan for a long evening afterwards. ;-) Just saying. Lol.

We had a wonderful lunch, the waiter spoke English and was very helpful with our lunch selection. The ambiance was elegant with white table cloths with an ocean view. Would recommend if you have time for an elegant lunch or dinner.

Fabulous food. Great service and view. Seafood is what they do and it is the best. An easy Uber ride from Cascais

Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.

They were as expected. Generally, seafood isn't cleaned by default (fish bile is not removed, shrimp is not deveined, etc.) so I had to do some cleaning but they were fresh and good too. Very salty, but you can avoid the skin to avoid the salt. Both mains came with a side. Choices were salad, boiled potatoes, or fries. Tried the salad and fries and got some rice as an additional side. Not too pricey either.

Cascais was highly recommended by the hotel concierge and an expat we met while in line at Pasteis de Belem. We decided to search for restaurants that are off the beaten path and luckily came across Melody. It was cozy and had a small outdoor dining area. The menu was pretty expansive and the portions were generous for the price. Since we've had lots of seafood during our trip so far, I asked our friendly and wonderful server for his recommendations on their beef menu. I opted for Bitoque à Melody. This was a generous portion of steak in mushroom cream sauce which was outstanding. My husband ordered Salmão Grelhado, a grilled salmon filet and baby potatoes served with garlic and garlic pepper in a light olive oil sauce. For dessert, server recommended 2 that are popular, but it didn't stand out as much as the savory items.

The sangria (by the glass or in a clay jug) is a must.  We went all in as a group of four diners, ordering the sardine sandwich (incredibly fresh and layered with flavor), fried fish, octopus, scrumptious pig cheeks, and the most delicious chicken wings. Honestly, I could've skipped the steak sandwich, but everything else was outstanding. Didn't make it to dessert, but the plates we saw heading to other tables looked good. Even the bathroom adds to the experience, decorated like a home, complete with fake hanging "laundry". We walked in during a busy lunch time on a weekend day.
