After looking around town looking for an authentic Portuguese experience, we stumbled upon Melody. What a pleasant and simple restaurant. We ordered beverages and main courses. I went for the white sangria and bacalhau assado. Such a lovely, unadulterated meal with perfect potatoes. Pure and simple. Others ordered the hamburgers which were also topped with perfectly toasted garlic slices and fries. Service was nice and efficient. Why the 3*... hair was found in my sangria and the spoon was dirty. Yes, it was replaced but left me feeling blah. **Cash only**

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Portugal so far. It's a hidden gem nested in the streets of Cascais. We ordered swordfish, squid, cuttlefish, and pork and I am not exaggerating when I say that the squid left me speechless. Everything else was phenomenal, but the squid was so good, we had to order more. The staff were extremely friendly and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It is definitely worth going out of your way to experience this place. I will definitely be back soon.

Mom & pop off the beaten path in Cascais. Stuffed cattle fish and sea bream. Mixed meats for me. Perfect French fries everywhere.

Small mom & pop place off the beaten path in Cascais which is on the beach. Think Santa Barbara in the 50's.the good is exceptional. Stuffed squid. Sea bream. 3 meat plate.

Great local place to eat in Cascais! My husband and I stopped in for lunch and we ate so much we were full for the rest of the day! We ordered two of the daily specials, which happened to be a mushroom chicken and Mexican style pork chops. The highlight of my meal was the side item of olives that we ordered. So garlicky and delicious! The meals we ordered came with rice, and red and white beans. Our spread was so huge, we could barely finish it! The best part about it was that the whole bill came to less than 16€!

Amazing traditional portuguese and sea food. Tiny restaurant but definitely worth a visit, you won't regret it.

Chorizo/blood sausage - best I've ever had. Try it!

First off, you need to make a reservation. The restaurant is small and very popular. I was able to…read moremake a reservation for the same day though, because luckily Portugal had a World Cup match that night. We sat inside the cantina side. Our server was adorable and bubbly with a great sense of humor. She did get really busy though toward the end of our meal and it was a challenge to flag her down for our check. With that said, she provided exceptional service earlier. This is the kind of place you want to go to with others who love tasting a variety of dishes. I went with my family who is not into that concept, and so I had to choose just one dish that I would not be sharing, as no one else wanted to share theirs either. Some of the dishes were quite small, but mine was not! I ordered the octopus which was cooked to perfection and had a mix of potatoes and greens underneath. Would definitely order this again! It was one of the best octopus dishes I've ever had. The one thing we did share was the croquettes. They were delightful, but kind of expensive as they were 1.70Euros each and were literally one bite, but a very flavorful bite at that. I also had a few glasses of their summer sangria which I rather enjoyed. I would return here when in Cascais again, but maybe with a different group of people so that we can treat it as tapas as it should be instead of individual dishes. There's so much more I want to try from their menu!

We split 3 dishes and definitely couldn't do a 4th as the portions were perfect to share. Dishes we ordered were the octopus with Migas, the wild crispy shrimps and the Ze Povinho which is black pork cheeks slow cooked in red wine. The octopus was incredibly tender and served over potatoes that had a lot of flavor. The shrimps were 4 large (prawns not sure why they were called shrimo?) were fried but nice and juicy. The puree of the avocado and mango with the prawns was a winning combo! We were both pretty full but ate every bit of the pork beef cheeks which was served with au gratin potato that had a hint of dill in it which I was surprised I like as I'm not a huge dill fan.. Once we got to this spot and this are in general we knew it was the place to be at. Monday evening and packed!

I was so happy…read moreto see that Yelp had a presence in Portugal so while planning the trip I started book marking all the cool exciting places I wanted to check out ! Sooo I was so happy to find Restaurante Mar Do Inferno! It had gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean and the best seafood ! We made our reservation online before leaving California. It was easy and had an English and Portuguese option. We arrived and once we got there we were greeted warmly and seated quickly . There were all these fresh seafood options that you could pick from in live tanks ! Service was top tier !! Our waiter was funny and very entertaining! He warmed up even more as the evening progressed! We had the best view of the sea and ambiance was lovely ! We ordered the seafood platter - langoustines, lobster, prawns, sea bream, potatoes in a garlic butter sauce !! Everything was SO FRESH!! So delicious !!! Great wine selection especially European wines and cocktails too !! Hubby loved it and we definitely will come back next time we are in Portugal!!

Unfortunately, it ended up being the most disappointing--and most expensive--meal we've had during our month in Portugal. The experience got off to a poor start. The hostess wasn't welcoming, and when I politely asked if we could sit closer to the window, I was told those tables had been reserved weeks in advance. We had also made a reservation for our anniversary, so that was disappointing. We were seated behind a pillar instead. Throughout the evening, not a single member of the waitstaff smiled. They all looked unhappy to be there, which created a surprisingly cold atmosphere. None of the staff ever came by to ask how our meal was, and no one acknowledged our anniversary. The restaurant itself wasn't nearly as elegant or luxurious as its reputation suggests. Aside from the lobster tank, the décor and atmosphere felt rather ordinary. To make matters worse, our view overlooked a wire fence and a parking area instead of the beautiful ocean setting we had expected. There were also several odd service issues. I ordered a gin martini. They said they were out of green olives, so I requested a lemon twist instead. The drink arrived with black olives and a lemon twist, which was confusing. As for the food, the complimentary bread with the crab pâté was excellent and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, everything after that was underwhelming. The sea bass was bland and forgettable, and the vegetables were overcooked to the point of being mushy. What made the evening especially disappointing is that every other restaurant we've visited in Cascais has been wonderful. Friendly, smiling staff checked on us, made us feel welcome, and served memorable meals--often at much lower prices. Given Mar do Inferno's reputation and premium prices, we expected an exceptional dining experience. Instead, we left wondering how it has earned such glowing reviews. I genuinely hope management takes a close look at the service, atmosphere, and food quality, because right now the restaurant simply doesn't live up to its reputation.
