My experience at this restaurant was extremely disappointing from start to finish. We waited approximately 40 minutes for a table, only to watch other parties without reservations be seated ahead of us. Unfortunately, the food did not make up for the poor service. The waffles were cold, as if the food had been sitting out for quite some time before being served. The rest of the food was also cold, the eggs contained eggshells, and the potatoes were undercooked and hard. Overall, the food was mediocre at best. What made the experience even worse was the interaction with management. When we politely asked to speak with a manager regarding the inedible food, he immediately assumed we were looking for a discount on the entire bill, which was never the case. We only requested that the non-edible items be removed. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager was rude, condescending, and unprofessional throughout the interaction. The atmosphere among the staff also felt tense and aggressive, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. While I understand it was Mother's Day and likely very busy, that should not be used as an excuse for poor food quality or unprofessional customer service. The food is delicious (with generous portions), the house coffee is flavorful, the decor is adorable, the room is spacious (yet cozy, which is neat), and the staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. A hidden gem. WELL hidden. Barely visible from the street, this beautiful breakfast/lunch place is a real surprise for this area. It's right across from the Van Nuys City Hall complex, and it feels like a glimpse of the gentrified future destined for this neighborhood once the subway station is up a few blocks away. Their potatoes and beans are good. Needless to say won't order that again. Husband had chilaquiles divorciados (1/2 green 1/2 red sauce). No notation on menu that red is quite hot. Came with potatoes, beans, 2 eggs and added asada for protein (cost with added protein a bit too much). Server disappeared after taking order. Did not check in once throughout the complete meal. I ask for a strawberry matcha and ask the waiter for nonfat milk but she stated they don't carry nonfat milk but on the beverage menu under milk option it clearly says non fat milk. If they ran out if would of been a different story but she never stated. Both drinks we got were not great. 3/10. I got the chilaquiles rojos with the eggs over easy and my partner got the huevos rancheros divorciado eggs over easy. His plate came out wrong we had to send back, the waiter didn't apologize for the mistake but look annoyed. Both plates did not have over easy eggs but over cook. The sauce on the chilaquiles was very nasty over powering didn't finish my plate. The only good thing was the pancakes. Over all the Mexican breaksfast here is a no good and matcha. My husband & I decided to pop into this place this morning for Father's day breakfast. The restaurant is really spacious and nicely decorated with a relaxing vibe. The food was very good. The only thing that could have been better was the seasoned french fries. They seemed to be refried again in the oil to heat them up which made them super oily and old tasting. The scrambled veggie omelettes were delicious and huge. We added cheese and avocado to them which made them even better. The nutella banana crepes were yummy too. I know why this place has only 3.5 stars on yelp. We came on a Sunday and it was mostly empty. It's super cute inside. The servers were super nice. I hope the owners take this to heart: We got a fruit plate for the table. It looked great. And the plate was huge. But the pineapple was ...fuzzy. Like it was just the hairy middle part of the pineapple that no one wants. The kiwi was slimy. You can tell they cut all this fruit last week and let it sit in the refrigerator. The food was super greasy. I got a southwest omelette and my wife got a veggie omelette. Each was LOADED with fillings. But my southwest omelette was filled with overcooked bell peppers and onions. And the eggs were a weird hard texture. I don't think they're real eggs. I think it's some packaged egg product. The water glasses and the coffee mugs had had these stickers with the company name on them. The coffee mugs have a stickers with the logo on it. The stickers are peeling and come into contact with your mouth when you're drinking. The stickers look cheesy and it's gross. Please take the stickers off. Then the decor. At first glance it's super cute inside. But 90% of it is plastic plants. Guys- just ditch the plastic please. It's so tacky. And there's no music. Just some quiet ambiance music would really help. This place has a lot of potential. A little music, swap out the plastic plants for real ones, peel the stickers off the cups, and serve LESS food but make it fresher and this place would have a line out the door every day. read more
