Dang. I really wanted to like this place. I was looking for a neighborhood place as an alternative to my nail salon on Lamar. Started strong with my pedicure. Great, sweet woman who didn't a pretty good job on my nails. I would prefer more exfoliation and callus removal, but overall she gets 4 stars. Then I met the owner. He never missed an opportunity to argue with me and tell me I'm wrong. He was upset I had SNS treatment (chem-free, would highly recommend). He complained it made more work for him and that he didn't like it. (Sorry about your job?) He left residue from my SNS treatment all over my hands. Told me I could scrub it off or it will come off eventually. When it came time for my nails to dry, I told him I had an appointment I didn't want to be late for and could I please pay now. "No. Wait for your nails to dry." Would you mind getting my wallet out of my purse? I don't want to be late. He looks at my purse. I sigh and get my wallet out. Smudge a nail. "See I told you so!! That's your fault. I'm not fixing that." Now I'm livid. I've smudged a nail at Great Nails, Diamond Nails, and countless others. I was never blamed, and it was always fixed immediately. You could see the employees compensate for the obvious rudeness. Everyone was overly friendly, almost apologetic to be around him. While I was still waiting for my nails to dry, an employee's kid runs into the waxing room exposing a woman to the salon. My nightmare. This salon could use a deep clean (windows and floors), a fresh coat of paint, and a new owner. And for the love of Christ, take down your Christmas garland. It's August. The reason this salon gets two stars instead of one is because of the fair pricing and kind employees. I will not be back. read more

I was looking for a new nail place near my house, and family nails had great yelp reviews so I decided to take a chance. I was pleasantly surprised with how great this place turned out to be. I made a same day appointment for 1pm, and we started exactly on time. I had planned on getting a full acrylic set, and my nail tech (I think her name is Laura) talked me into getting a Solar set instead. Though I was a bit hesitant to do it, I'm so glad that I did! It took 30 minutes from start to finish, and now I won't have to worry about my color fading or chipping. She listened to what I wanted for my nail shape and length, and didn't make me feel bad about my choice to have a short set. She was super friendly and very talented. This is my new nail place for sure! The only negative I have is that it's a smidge dingy inside; though it doesn't seem to be unsanitary. I will definitely be back!! read more

Not happy with this place! I wanted to find a south Austin nail salon due to me moving south. My normal salon is in Pflugerville which is now too far. People recommend this place so I gave in. I normally get a hot stone pedicure that is about 45 minutes. I was t even offered pedicure options. The lady just did the pedicure, clean up my feet and rubbed my legs for 5 minutes and was done. I usually get SNS POWDER ON ACRYLIC. She was trying to take my nails off to soak, and she split open my fake nail on top of my real nail. Talk about painful. Then she tries to dip my hands in acetic acid to soak off the nails. My one finger was on fire. So time to do my nails, she sends me to a gentleman which I prefer, I feel male nail techs are sometimes the best. He starts picky at my fingers and that one hurt nail; filing down to where I can't sit still because it hurts so bad. He tells me it was my fault. Umm no it was not it was the woman prior to you. I show him a picture of how I want my nails he agreed. Well my nails are not the length I wanted them he cut them as he pleased. The don't look anything like the picture. They are so bad I cried! My birthday is this Friday and they look like my 1 year old niece did them. Nails are not filed to match all the nails. Some are rounded on the corners some are squared. My nail beds are so sore (which never happens since I get them done every 2 weeks) I have nail glue and polish all over my fingers and hands, the nails aren't smooth at all. There's bubbles and bumps all throughout them. Let's just say the WORSE $73.00 I paid ever!!!! read more

I used to come here when I worked near by to get manicures. The young lady with the glasses gives a very good manicure, the other ladies (one young one and one that is older with glasses) don't massage your arms and use polish remover to clean up their lack precision. I took my mother in law in today to get manicure/pedicure before we left for the beach. The faculty has gone down hill. Dirty environment with alot of flys and fly swatters laying around. They don't use their ac so it's quite warm in there. I got my usually lady, so my manicure and pedi turned out like normal. My mother in law had the older lady with glasses who cut her foot with the scraper and didn't massage her arms or legs. They also raised their prices and didn't bother to tell me before they started. I will never come back to this place. Lack of precision, caring and cleanliness. There are much better places out there. read more

I am VERY particular about customer service --- when I was in high school & college I did customer service, when it was required to give exceptional service. Many places have no clue what good customer service is. Family Nails is an establishment that I have to give a review to as often as possible, they give EXCEPTIONAL service. The nail artists are amazing!!! The women who work at Family Nails care about their customers. They go above & beyond. Today I went in a few minutes after they closed to get my paint fixed on my toenail....they were ready to go home, but they were happy to help me. I DO NOT go to anywhere else for my pedicures, wax, or solar nails. If there is any problem they will happily fix it. I came to Family Nails because of strong yelp reviews, but I was disappointed in the manicure. I have gel nails and they soaked my fingers in nailpolish remover until I couldn't stand it anymore. Then the technician filed my cuticles, causing my skin to break on several fingers, then put more nailpolish remover on...boy, did that hurt! I left with several open sores from her injury to my cuticles and surrounding skin. read more

I had many people recommend this nail salon so I decided to check it out. Did a gel manicure and they looked perfect!! The only thing I did not like and may keep me from coming back is sanitation. Every salon I've gone to would open a packet of clean nail tools for both hand and feet along with other items sanitized. The lady just had a pencil box with her nail tools. And I saw all the nail debris in there. The staff were sweet and I enjoyed working with the lady who did my nails, again who did amazing. But I have to give it 3 stars because a popular salon with well experienced nail techs should have sanitation as a priority. I'll definitely come back once I know they've made those changes as well as change my review to 5 stars. read more

I wanted to treat my sisters and my self which was a lot of money, they don't have the prices listed not sure if what they charged us for, but they do not do a good job. I got gel on both my hands and feet and within one week my toe nails chipped and I could literally peel of my nails of my hands terrible job, they guy there is very rough, he literally ran the drills on my skin and peeled off skin of my fingers, will not be going back. read more

Found my new south Austin nail place! Popped in here last Sunday, June 1st, having tried two other salons in the area...both were closed. Not only was Family Nails open, but they got me in right away and I was out of there in an hour :) I got a basic pedicure for my first visit ($20, what?!) and the young lady who worked with me was super professional and friendly and worked like a champ to eliminate a callus caused by a bunion on my left big toe! I have been going to Family Nails for about 15 years. I became accustomed to go there because of convenience and all of my family had been going there for years. I can honestly say that the lack in customer service and dirtiness of the place was very evident. I tried to ignore the bad reviews and decided to ignore what my eyes where really seeing because I wanted to continue going there. In the last month, I got a severe nail infection because of the dirty tools when getting a pedicure. Then my sister also gets a severe nail infection and goes back to request her money back. There has been times like today that I came for a nail refill and my nails were messed up, I was charged, and they just said for me to come back tomorrow. On another occasion when I was getting my pedicure the nail tech was very rude and pretty much said you need to come do your pedicure every two weeks and was upset that I had cut my toe nails too short which cause more work for her. The thing is that we are the customers here and the nail techs should be more considerate of our time. The business makes money because of the customers. The ONLY person that provides a great NAIL service there is Laura! The rest of the staff is very inconsiderate and gets upset when you ask them to fix something. After 15 years I will never go there again!!!! read more

Super Beautiful Nails -- Super friendly staff and customers -- Only a 30 min. wait when the house was packed. I walked in about 3:30pm. Had just left another nail shop after a terrible experience. Was referred here by a waitress at my favorite taco place. I would not have cared how it looked or where it was at that point. Every nail table and pedi chair was full. There were no empty seats in the waiting area, so I had to sit in the manager's chair. I asked how long the wait would be for a fill and was told 30 mins. Even though the place was packed with mothers and their noisy children, I got in within the 30 mins. My nail take Annie, was terrific. She had a sign up with pictures of nail shapes and their names. I walked out a very happy person with some BEAUTFUL NAILS.. Their prices are super cheap. I noticed lots of people walking in for brow waxes. I'm going back next week for a brow and lip wax. Can't until it's pedi time. At their prices, I can get the works. read more

The ladies that work in the salon are very nice and pleasant, and did a good job. However, the owner/manager (man) in the shop at the time was eating his lunch and then proceeded to floss his teeth in front of customers, flicking food here and there. Pretty nasty. Also, you can usually judge the cleanliness of the place by its bathroom. It was pretty bad. The place is old and run-down, but if the man stopped flossing and watching videos, perhaps he could lend a hand help clean the place. It really was dirty everywhere. And, by the way, Christmas ended almost a month ago. It might be time to take down the decorations and place them in that very visible, messy closet. Like I said, nice ladies, but . . . probably won't go back, due to the cleanliness and lack of respect for customers. read more
