I came in one morning for a pedicure, there was only one person already being helped and nobody else. The lady was super kind and called someone to come in early, I didn't wait longer than 10 minutes. I must have left around 10am and wore flip flops or no shoes until around 2pm. After I took my shoes off the polish was destroyed. It looked like when you do it at home and put way too much polish on so it cakes off/rubs off and has lines all over. I called to get it fixed and they said they would but I didn't have time before a trip. The guy also cut one of my nails weird and I know have a very painful ingrown toenail to deal with. read more

I took a lot of time to choose a manicure place because most have such mixed reviews with the bad ones highlighting serious concerns. As 1626 Nails & Spa had primarily glowing reviews, I thought I could trust it. I decided to try a dip manicure, which is quite an expense, but I didn't want my natural nails to break like they often do while I was traveling. So I carefully selected colors, but for some reason, Mimi, who I believe is the owner here, brought back different colors. They were similar enough in the pots that I didn't notice until my nails were done. She buffed my natural nails extensively with an electric file, presumably to rough them up to grab the products, but seems damaging and weakening to me. With this quick-whirring electric tool, she also cut open the skin under my finger, and it bled, but she did not comment or apologize. As it was hurting me, I pulled back and she just pulled my hand closer. A manicure doesn't look pretty with a bloody cut, which hurt for days. I'd read it's important for salons to have individual smaller containers of powder to dip each customer's nails into or the larger pots can become contaminated by bacteria, spreading infection. She dipped my fingers into the communal pot, including the one with the broken, bleeding skin just under the nail. Having customers wash hands before the manicure doesn't help much either because many folks don't wash hands effectively. When the manicure was complete, there were so many layers of product that it looked thick and bulbous, like the weight of it was pulling and shifting around my natural nails! After I paid her, she insulted something about my appearance and kept going on about it in order to try to get me to come in for another service at the salon. As if she could convince me how bad I looked, I would want to return to her to "fix" it, when I didn't even like my nails. The manicure is now off and my natural nails look horribly damaged and destroyed. This whole experience reminded me why I rarely visit nail salons and now I'm not likely to visit other ones either. read more

My pedicure friend was out of town and I need a pedicure. Oh no, what's a girl to do?! I didn't want to go to our usual place since it was just me and it is a little drive from my house. I instead decided to pick a nail salon that is closer to my house. I called 1626 Nails before I showed up and secured an appointment. It is advisable during their busy times to get an appointment but this cold wet Saturday afternoon was not one of them. I showed up and picked my nail colors while the pedicure tub was filling up. There are color options but not in abundant like other nail salons. I also let Mimi know that I opted for the deluxe pedicure due to my wear and tear of feet due to kickboxing and nursing school clincials. Mimi did my pedicure and it looks great. She made me feel welcome and gives really good massages. I particularly enjoyed this as I have been having some issues with the balls of feet. She worked out those knots and my feet left happy and looked happy. Overall a great small size nail salon that works to make sure your feet look nice when you leave. read more

Excellent environment! Super easy to get in. I called ahead and was able to drive right over. Walked in with my mask on as requested and washed hands as requested. Pedicure station with liner in bowl. I brought my own color as had it on hand (Mimi handed it back after cleaning it). I did the Delixe and it was worth it at $45. Included honey scrub, callus remover, mud mask, hot towel wrap, and the best hot stone massage ever! Ladies shhh don't tell the others, but this is the local place to hit. Clean, super friendly, priced reasonably and meticulous manis and pedis! What else could you ask for!!! Mimi does most or all of the manis while David does most of the pedis. They are both very conscientious in their work and very nice people! You cannot find a better nail salon in the area unless you are more about the bells and whistles. I recently moved to the area from far north Austin (and far away from my favorite nail place up on Anderson Mill), so it was time to find a new spot. I called ahead to make sure there wasn't a long wait, but she said she wasn't busy so I headed over. I went in for a simple pedicure (my toes were looking pretty gnarly) and a brow wax. The place isn't much to look at from the outside, sandwiched between the Stripes/Valero convenience store/gas and a barber shop. The inside is minimal, but it's clean with simple decor. They have about six pedicure chairs with the electric massage chairs, about 4 (or maybe 2) manicure tables, and two private rooms for waxing and I guess the facial services they offer. I ended up getting the Salon pedicure ($35) which included salt scrub, hot towel, and callus treatment. Mimi was quick but attentive to detail, and did a great job dealing with all the problem spots around my nail beds (the primary reason I get pedicures). She also gave a fantastic foot and leg massage! She was efficient but careful on my brows as well. (Brow wax was $10.) I'll definitely be back! read more

I stayed away from artificial nails after a brief try many years ago, so I was hesitant but she said it will double your manicure time so I went for it. Wow! Was I surprised! Great job! I visited 1626 Nails after having a terrible experience at my regular south Austin salon. I am so happy I tried it out. The location doesn't scream "awesome" as it's in a small strip center with a gas station. However the inside is super clean and inviting. The man who did my mani pedi was friendly and did a great job. The pricing was reasonable, with a big menu of options. Also a plus, both people I interacted with spoke and understood English. 1626 is a small salon with, as far as I can tell, only two employees. While I was there, one customer was asked to return in an hour because both manicurists were busy. This means it's best to call ahead to avoid waiting. read more

Went in to get a deluxe pedicure along my husband. Very detail oriented, nice atmosphere, very quiet which is what I like. It didn't smell like a nail salon which was an added perk because sometimes the fumes make me feel sick. It's a husband/wife team and The husband did my nails and did a very good job. I mentioned to Mimi that my husband has been having a really bad headache and so she spent extra time on his massage. I had been trying to find a salon since moving to Austin. I had yet to find one as I'm picky. I went to this salon based on the yelp reviews. Mimi was very sweet from the start. I wanted sns nails and the last place that did them did terrible. Mimi was determined to make sure that didn't happen again. A lot of factors go into sns and a lot of things determine if it will come out good. The odds weren't in my favor today. Mimi tried everything she could think of. Her friend and co-worker was helping as well. It took a while but we finally came up with a solution that made her feel good that I was happy...i was happy and like my nails now. I decided to give this little salon a try based on Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed. From the outside, the nondescript signage could be easy to miss. The inside is very pleasant, CLEAN, and well organized. You can tell they take great pride in their business. David did my pedicure and he was very gentle - but not too much so. I never felt he was rushing and he did a great job. Mimi (a real gem of a person) was great in every way. She was patient, gentle, very accommodating, and did a really great job of soaking off one of the worst acrylic sets (from salon in San Marcos) I have ever gotten. She helped me choose a color and didn't get upset when I needed to reshape a few of my nails. It's a 40 mile round-trip for me from where I live in Wimberley but so very worth it! read more
