Family Donut shop in Denham Springs, La. The best donuts ever made!
Chasity R.

This place has the best donuts I have ever had and I have been to tons of places including all of the major donut chains. The bad reviews are confusing to me because I go a couple times a month and have never had a problem. The food is delicious and the owners know everyone in my family by name. The prices are reasonable and they do an exceptional job at cooking and customer service, what more could you ask for. They always give us extras too we recieved extra donuts, apple fritters, kolaches and donut holes. They remember all of my kids favorite donuts and if I dont get any they always give me one of each for free. This buisness is family owned and occasionally they are closed when they are suppose to be open or open a little later then expected but I just call beforehand. I live about 20 minutes away and pass other donut shops on my way to them but the drive and time is worth it. If you have never been you definitely need to give them a try.

I am so glad new owners came in and reopened the shop. The donuts are as good as ever and the service is much faster.

We loved this hidden gem! We passed it by for years until we finally stopped in for a coffee and…read morequick bite. The Whistle Stop is one of those neighborhood places that people just know about. We know now! Folks are friendly and knowledgeable and make wonderful coffees and delicious food. We went twice in a week (long story) and got cookies the first day and breakfast the second. It's the kind of place you'd hang out longer if you had time, although we didn't. Next time. And let me tell you, the cookies we had were the best we'd ever had. Big, soft, loaded with chocolate and macadamia and coconut for a magic combination we've never had anywhere else. It's almost a full meal. We're not local to Denham Springs, but visit occasionally. I ordered the ham, egg, and Swiss croissant, a chocolate chip cookie, and a latte. My only complaint is that I wish the coffee and sandwich had been served hotter. Still, the warm atmosphere more than made up for it. There are plenty of cozy seating areas both inside and outside that make you want to just sit and stay.

We arrived at 8:00 AM on Thursday and was surprised to find this restaurant was nearly empty with only a few locals having coffee and engaged in a conversation at the bar. The friendly staff greeted us and we seated ourselves at a high-top near the front windows, we both ordered their freshly brewed iced tea while browsing the menu. We wanted to eat and run so we both ordered pancakes and I got a side of bacon - the pancakes were just okay and the bacon unfortunately was cold like it could of been sitting for awhile but it is what it is and we were in and out quickly and our server Whitney brought us each a iced tea to go which was very nice. Nothing bad here but also nothing memorable except how empty the place was at breakfast time in an area that was busy. The restaurant is located on the end of a strip mall a little off the beaten path so that may explain it, we probably wouldn't return just based on the food quality...

Parking was crazy too -- we ended up around the back of the shopping center. Thankfully, it was worth the wait. We sat near the bar, our service was impeccable, and the chef even came out to our table. For appetizers, we shared the French Toast Bites, Pig-Candy Bacon Bites and Fried Green Tomatoes. One of each was plenty for five people. The Fried Green Tomatoes were surprisingly my favorite -- there's a lot going on with the remoulade and bacon-onion jam, but it WORKS. The French Toast Bites were fried a little hard, and the Pig-Candy Bacon was very sweet and also a little hard, although my son devoured it. The regular bacon is ALWAYS amazing, so we ordered several rounds for the table. My husband and dad loved their Three Little Pigs Omelets. My husband added shrimp to his grits and said they were delicious, while my dad only finished half his plate because the portions are generous. My Southern Breakfast with scrambled eggs, cheese grits, bacon, fried green tomato and biscuit was simple, GOOD and filling. For picky kids, I'd order one pancake and extra bacon instead of multiple kids' meals. I also appreciated the apple juice and coloring sheets with crayons. The Mimosa Flight was just okay. Blueberry Lavender was my favorite, followed by Watermelon Pomegranate. I'd skip Pineapple Peach Bellini and Blue Orange -- I tasted more champagne than flavor. The Mardi Gras Punch, however, was a table favorite, especially the popping boba. Even with the crowd, the bathroom was clean. We watched the Saints game, enjoyed family time and stayed full until evening. Between the food, drinks and impeccable service, I'd definitely return -- just prepared for the brunch rush.

My husband had an omelette with peppers and bacon, and he really enjoyed it. It was fluffy, generously filled, and cooked just right, with great smoky flavor from the bacon and a nice kick from the peppers. The service was friendly, the food came out quickly, and the whole experience felt warm and welcoming. Definitely a great local spot for a hearty, satisfying meal.

It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA
