First off this is a fine dining establishment not a cafe... it's a gorgeous place right near the lake. As it is a fine dining establishment there are limited seatings. Most restaurants like this do not turn over tables during a dinner service. We made a reservation for a Saturday evening and when arrived were seated right away. We had a girls night out for a birthday celebration. The hostess/server was fantastic and answered all of our questions. The ambience is relaxing and cozy. Gorgeous place inside and out. The food was fantastic and we never felt rushed to finish. Even when we were done eating and were sitting chatting and the other gals were finishing up their bottle of wine (BYOB) we were never rushed or given the check as our "sign" to be done and leave so they could serve more people. Just returned from dinner here and was highly disappointed with the overall experience. The decor was nice and the service was professional, but the outrageous prices for mediocre food left us feeling robbed. If you are ok with spending $35.00 for three scallops and three stalks of asparagus and a sprinkle of greens then go for it. Or if you prefer coughing up $14.00 for three quarter sized crab cake appetizers then this is your spot. The best part of the dining experience is that you can bring your own wine. French Onion soup was watered down and burnt on top but it was only $8.00 for a cup. We would be hard pressed to return unless our rich uncle was picking up the tab. read more

This was our 3rd visit and our last. Such a cute place and a great outdoor area. BYO is a plus for sure. Food was always decent, not great, but decent. Was very cold inside as it was last time we visited but chalked it up to the huge vaulted ceiling which prob cost a ton to heat properly. We were the only ones in the place which is not a good sign (another couple did show up later, but that was it). The server let us know there were a lot of items on the menu that were not available, another red flag. Bread was actually very good & fresh & mushroom cap app was nice & hot which warmed us up lol. We ordered the house salad which was supposed to have olives, sunflower seeds & pine nuts. It had none of that, just a few yellow tomatoes & 1 strawberry sliced & a raspberry dressing which was way too sweet. Salad was awful & not anything of what was described. So we decided to split the entrée which was a seafood dish in marinara sauce over pasta. Was supposed to be clams, shrimp & crabmeat. Server said they had no clams so they would add extra shrimp & crabmeat. We got the dish and there was crabmeat & old shrimp & what appeared to be the end piece of a larger fish with the black skin still on it. I asked what fish that was and server said it was salmon. It was mostly that black slimy skin and was old. Were they trying to do us a favor by adding that piece of salmon? No idea but this made the dish awful. Did the cook think we were blind and not see this chunk of old fish that was not even supposed to be in the dish? At least we didn't get sick from it but will never return to this place. Maybe they are going out of business and that's why half the menu was unavailable and they were throwing stuff in just to get rid of it? Gee thanks Fairview Cafe for serving us one of the worst meals we have had in a restaurant ever. And we go out all the time to eat. read more

Drove up here from Falls Church, Va today for a memorial service tomorrow. Stopped in around 7pm to meet our friends for dinner. This place is awesome. Truly a gem. Bring your own booze (whatever you drink)! Wine-server will open it and pour! Mixed liquor drink-server will provide glass and ice (bring your mixer to be safe). Beer-server will provide a chilled glass. Food....incredible. Three specials of meat, seafood or pasta every night. Service impeccable! Full menu every night including poultry, red meat, pasta and sea food. Starter menu is unique and everything looks delicious, we had bratwurst stuffed Bella mushrooms. Salads are a full meal, 4 people can share 2. The place is beautiful and I won't spoil the surprise with the main feature, but you will know what I mean if you walk in this place on a cold night. Disappointing. Absolutely horrendous wait for our food. Almost an hour to get our entrees and we were with our 7 year old daughter which wasn't fun. It was obvious we were struggling with the wait but we were ignored until the food came, after which the server and manager came by 3 or 4 times to check on if we were enjoying the food - they were missing the point.The food was decent enough but not sure I'd say it was fine dining. We had the panko crusted chicken breast and the pork chop special. There are barely any options for kids, just pasta and butter. It wasn't a great night, I'm sure if you can here another night, and maybe without a kid in tow, you may have a better experience so check the other reviews! read more

As a fine dining Restaurant owner myself it's rare that I rave about a place but I had the French onion soup and the rack of lamb last week and it was perfection. This place looks amazing from the outside and gets even better on the inside. Huge ceilings and beautiful woodwork everywhere. Its too bad our meals fell short. My wife ordered the salmon which was a small portion and she said the taste was ok. Wheres the salad she asked. The waitress didnt even ask if we wanted one fot an extra 8 bucks. The rest ordered the steak special, nothing special about these fatty slabs of meat. They had a weird taste and when we cut all the crap off there wasnt much left. I couldnt even eat my over cooked piece and sent it back. The brussle sprouts were steamed and ok. The best thing was the mack and cheese , very delish. This restaurant has a great and varied menu with excellent food. The quality of the food is ruined by the slow service. I was at this restaurant several weeks ago. The food was great but the service was leisurely at best. Returned this evening to see if there was any improvement but found the slow service painful. I realize the food is made to order and waiting a little long for entrees was not bad but we waited over 1/2 hour after we finished our meal before the plates were cleared and our dessert order taken. That took another 15 minutes. 1/2 of our party left while we waited for the check. It really is unfortunate that the service was so poor because the food is quite good. This is our first time visiting the Fairview under its new owners. Same gorgeous building in a beautiful setting. Wonderful live music tonight by Jae Merrill & Benya Barshai - what a treat! We chose to sit outside on the porch. There are lots of choices on the menu. We started with a cheese & meat plate w dried & fresh fruits. Yum! I ordered salmon stuffed with spinach, feta, & Sundried tomatoes, a wonderful flavor combo. My husband had the chioppino, which was a little challenging to eat (a food activity!), and very tasty. Our waitress, Kirsty, was very attentive. BYOB also. I'm so glad this place is open again, AND that the owners are bringing in live local music!! Winning all around! read more

Locals to the area, pass by this often and on Saturday we had the opportunity to go. It was 5:20 p on a Saturday night. The place truly is beautiful outside and in, have been looking forward to try this out. They even have mini golf next door. Stopped in, very few cars in parking lot, didn't think much of it because maybe it was before a dinner rush. We do live in the Poconos. Hostess did greet us, asked if we had a reservation, I stated that we did not and asked if we needed it, it was just two of us. One table in the whole restaurant was filled. The rest was staff. We were told that we do NEED a reservation and said thank you and have a nice night. She was polite, I was not going to argue. On the way out took a glance at the hours and it said that the reservations were RECOMMENDED not REQUIRED, especially for dinner on weekends. We were let down, I tried to convince myself and boyfriend that it's summertime, tourist season and we are in Pocono's. Either way wasn't thrilled, we went to one of our other places not far we like to visit instead. This place is a joke. They catered our wedding in September 2017 and never brought the coffee and extras as planned. They never asked for the address. I always felt nervous that they forgot about us. I had to call the day before the wedding to give the address. No one mentioned to us that the restaurant would be closed the days following the wedding and that we were responsible for returning all equipment until the wedding was over. We paid in full the day we booked. It's been 4 months and we still haven't received our security deposit back despite numerous calls to Donnie, the owner, and text messages. If you're looking for an efficient business to cater your event I wouldn't suggest Fairview cafe and catering. Very poor management and not at all professional. For the thousands we paid for the event, it shouldn't be too hard to return a security deposit. read more

Sunday breakfast was very enjoyable! Although the kitchen was a bit slow to get our three meals out, they were all worth the wait (Signature French Toast, Veggie Omelet, and Breakfast Quesadilla). The coffee was delicious, dark, and strong which is usually rare for most breakfast places without expensive coffee machines. The waitress was polite and very attentive. My wife and I stopped In on sat night with friends and reservations. Sheila ordered a "medium-rare" rib eye steak and I ordered the French onion soup and the special seared tuna. Well things could have worked out better. My wife's dish came back "medium" and that was disappointing. She kept it but was not happy. The restaurant was short of personnel with only 2 waitresses on staff so this may have influenced her decision to keep it I was served the onion soup in a large very modern flat white soup bowl that was extremely hot to touch. The onions were very fresh and the soup was fine. I usually love to eat the drippings from the cheese from the sides of a smaller taller bowl. Oh well. Finally my seared tuna served was not warm at all. I had to return it back to the waitress (after a long wait) but when returned, it was good and served with wild rice Otherwise, I would classify this as a So so dinner but the building itself is a replica of the very large ski chalets one sees out west. Took my wife there last week to try & treat her to a well-deserved wonderful Birthday dinner. Had reservations for 7 pm & arrived precisely thereat. Was amazed by the wooden structure & design of the place, then waited while standing over 15 min's to be seated. Waitress was very friendly, though she appeared overwhelmed with tables. She informed me the Salmon dinner I wanted was not available. My wife ordered the $32 Scallop(s) dinner (now you'll know why I was glad to see Jessica W.'s review below of Aug. 2021). Due to the late lunch we had prior, we didn't order appetizers - most were deep fried anyway, then we waited.... & waited. Waitress brought a few slices of cold bread, hard enough to give them that 'yesterday's bread' staleness, yet better than nothing. Finally, our plates came out, and wife alerted me to immediately look at her plate. Wow!! My eyes nearly popped when I looked to see ONLY THREE (3) single mediocre-sized Scallops sitting on her otherwise ~ 80% empty $32 plate!! She loves seafood so much and anticipated the dinner all day, yet she was genuinely heartbroken! Factoring in a tip, that equated to ~$12 per one measly Scallop, which was clearly simply fried in oil for a few minutes, bland taste with no special sauce or anything! For that price they should have been flown-in from Iceland - you can buy a whole bag of frozen scallops the same size for $20 in Price Chopper, which the Fairview would sell for $220 profit. Wife's Birthday was crushed, and I felt so heartbroken myself for giving my wife a $32 Appetizer! The bright side was her large near-empty dinner plate also contained two & a half sticks of Asparagus, and 3 tablespoons of Rice - how generous of you Fairview! To try and make up for the $32 Non-Dinner I just bought my wife, I ordered some chocolate cake which looked great in the bakery case, but when bitten into tasted 2-weeks old like eating cardboard. So glad to see Jessica W.'s Yelp review - she was exactly correct! - what a shameful disrespect this place has for the good people of NEPA. I walked out to the parking lot, looked at the restaurant and it felt like I was looking at a crime scene.....cause I was: My wife was robbed of celebrating her Birthday and I was robbed of my cash. They'll never again get the chance to fleece us. At 10:30 pm we were both starving to eat something - yet $72 poorer. read more

First impression was good. The decor is very nice. Beyond that, there's unfortunately not much positive to report. From the time we were seated it was 20 minutes before the waitress came to our table to offer water or something to drink (in fact we had to ask, or it might have been longer). They did not seem exceptionally busy, which is why the slow service was so surprising. It got worse: it was over an hour after we ordered before the first dishes were brought out (we were only 3 people and yet the entrees were still brought out 10 minutes apart after waiting over an hour for the first ones). It got worse. One of the entrees was downright terrible, with an obnoxiously strong sauce that made the entire dish mostly inedible. Another entree was mediocre, and the 3rd one was o.k., but in general they were over-priced for the quality, and not by an insignificant amount. The total bill was far more than it should have been, and although we did not ask for anything to be taken off, it would have been the right thing for them to take something off the bill due to the long wait. Let me start by saying I would have avoided this place because of the reviews, unfortunately a relative picked this restaurant for Mother's Day brunch. All I can say is the low ratings from other reviews are probably accurate.Another note, I normally do not eat buffet style meals. Now, the brunch menu included with the buffet had a few breakfast choices. ( omelets, a cheese stuffed French toast, a few eggs Benedict dishes) The buffet itself was dry French toast, scrambled egg, 2 quiche choices both were just fluffy egg pies with no substance, sausage, bacon, and potatoes. Also there was some assorted pastry and a small selection of fruit available. OK I guess..but, I always thought "brunch'' meant breakfast and lunch, maybe a few carving stations at least. This was clearly "breakfast only." At $32 a person the waitress should of had a mask on pointing a gun when she handed us the check for 8 people. Walking to our cars saying goodbye to family all I was thinking was "did we really just pay that much for bacon, eggs and a muffin"? Oh yeah, and we brought our own bloody marys and wine. I am writing an update because my wife called the owner Donnie who explained that he was out of town with a family emergency and didn't know who the cook was that night. He apologized and gave us all of our money back. He explained that people rush to put bad reviews on the internet and if they called him instead he could work with them. I think he needs to tell the server that if someone complains about the food that is the time to act. At least that has been my experience. read more

WARNING: Avoid this spot. If I could leave zero stars I would. We had a 7:45 reservation and got there right on time. The hostess was flustered & told us "we don't have the right table available but we can seat you somewhere else", they then sat us and said "it's gonna be a little bit" and left us. We got our appetizer, the stuffed mushrooms, around maybe 8:35 and it was AWFUL- disgustingly bland. They had said at 8:15 they were gonna bring bread- never did. We saw 4 different people go up to the waitress who had been waiting for a really long time for their checks. Finally at 8:50, no one had checked on us in almost 45 minutes and we asked a food runner if we could get a check for the appetizer. We have dined there for several dinners and a lunch as well. We are very excited to have this gem in our backyard (almost literally). We will continue to support the new owners and we love Scott. The Salmon dish is wonderful. Had the Special Prime Rib last week and it was very very good and quite filling. Our only feedback is that service can be a bit slow depending on the crowd and staffing. However, we need to slow down and enjoy the beautiful building and the fabulous fireplace inside so we clear our schedule to enjoy our time there when dining. The warmer weather brings live music and seating on the porch. One can schedule dining with a painting class which looked fun and creative. Give it a try as we need this place to succeed in this area. read more

Always hope a local business is successful; however, the service, the food, and the wait staff are less than desirable. Besides the 50 minute wait for breakfast with very few customers, the waitress was unprofessional. When asked about the $3 charge for peppers and onions that were added to the potatoes, she said it was $1.50 per item, which would be acceptable if there was more than a SLICE of peppers and onions chopped up. When my husband mentioned the minimal amount of peppers and onions, the waitress became flustered and said don't be rude and walked away with an attitude. When she returned, she's indicated that she made an error and it is $.75 per item with an attitude. Regardless of the poor service and undesirable food, the waitress was the topping on the cake. I would not recommend Fairview Cafe unless there is new management or a new chef. read more
