This review is based on our overnight accommodations and not the food portion of our stay because the rating would be much lower. The inn is beautiful in every way. For some reason, I was expecting it to be nestled in the woods but it was located along a fairly busy road, but the road traffic didn't interfere with the stay. Our room was comfortable with plenty of updates throughout. We came for one of the themed events and enjoyed the scheduled entertainment and ambiance of the dining room. Staff was very welcoming and offered to adjust our room charges due to the constant technical issues we experienced with their TV services. The Inn including the restaurant is beautiful. The staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. The food is not a 3 but it's also not a 4. There were 4 of us there for dinner - The rating is based one appetizer and 2 entrees. The chilled seafood soup (Shrimp & Mussel Escabeche) was very different and delicious. The 3 Stone Silo Crab cakes with Garlic Herb Aioli were good but nothing special. The Bacon Wrapped Pork Tenderloin was also just good, it being on the dry side. We did not have dessert. We went to the Settlers Inn when other birthday dinner plans fell through. We called and they were able to seat our party of five adults and three kids at a table off to the side. The hostess and server were both good at their jobs. The food was solid and they even had a three course dinner option for the kids that all of our kids really enjoyed. We had scallops and pasta, while also getting a side of shishito peppers and a side of potatoes. The potatoes didn't like like they were going to taste great, but I really enjoyed them. We also ordered dark chocolate cheesecake and the lavender cake for dessert. read more

Went to the thanksgiving day dinner. The food was lukewarm warm and nothing special. Coffee service was cold. I would've ignored all that but was charged six dollars for a small slice of pie that should've been included in the total cost of the dinner. read more

Settlers is the best food in the area that I am aware of, and it is good, but the prices are higher than you would expect for where you are and what you're getting. However, considering the options for fine dining around Hawley, it's the best you can do. You'd have to go 50 minutes to Scranton to find anything better. No doubt, your dining experience will be good, but it's not going to blow your socks off like an equally priced place in a big city. The service is very nice, the wine list is acceptable, the ambience is very good, and the food is good. If you are in the area looking for gourmet food and you have a fat wallet, this place will suit you fine, but expect to pay over $100 per person for a 3 course meal plus cocktail and wine. read more

However the music was the best part, upon walking in the place smelled like a nursing home, then we were greeted by a wonderful waitress who took our drink and appetizer orders that came out quickly and they were okay at best. Then after waiting a long while our dinner came out the Mrs ordered a rabbit pasta dinner with a hint of spice and I ordered the steak and fry and oh boy were we in for a supprize. Her pasta was unbelievably spicy with me not even being able to eat it without coughing and I love spice and my steak and fries being cold. For the price it was terrible I could of gotten better pasta and steak and have gotten better pasta and steak at a truck stop Dennys, will not be coming back and will not be suggesting to a friend. read more

We try to go here at least 3-4xs during the summer season. We always have amazing food and friendly bartenders. Wait staff is hit or miss. Usually the younger wait staff is friendly, attentive and just overall great service. When we get some of the other wait staff they tend to be grumpy and short with customers. I understand that they are overworked and some customers aren't easy to deal with, but it's always the same attitude no matter when we have "certain" wait staff. Don't let that keep you away though! Kill them with kindness, enjoy the food and leave a good tip regardless! read more

The Settlers Inn is a historic Arts & Craft Lodge that was built in Hawley, Pennsylvania in 1927. It was founded by local citizens in Hawley. Shortly after the completion of Lake Wallenpaupack (a man-made lake), local businessmen believed that tourists would come to see it and they raised funds to build a grand hotel known as the 'Hawley Community Hotel'. When the building was nearly finished, the stock market crashed and it sat empty for 20 years. It officially opened to the public in 1947 and went through several owners. It served as a nursing home, an inn, and even a private school. Since 1980, the inn has been owned and operated by hospitality experts Jeanne and Grant Genzlinger who dubbed it 'The Settlers Inn'. The on-site restaurant and Chestnut Tavern offer farm-to-table menus highlighting quality products of local farms and purveyors. Kate Woehrle is the current executive chef. The inn has been a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2010. My family and I recently visited The Settlers Inn while we were spending Memorial Day weekend in the Poconos. The timing of our visit coincided with their Memorial Day Brunch. The beautiful hotel had a spacious dining room that even featured live music from a piano player. To drink, I ordered the "Settlers Inn Bloody Mary" (blue cheese olives, alpine beef stick, aged cheddar, dilly beans, pepperoncini, celery). This was a great brunch cocktail! Our server brought us some delicious complimentary Brewer's Bread for the table. For the appetizer course, I had the "Smoked Trout Dip" and my wife had the "Black Pepper Ricotta Toast" (asparagus, cured egg yolk). We were both happy with our choices. For the entree course, I had the "Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict" (potato pancakes), my wife had the "Crispy Chicken Sammy" (coleslaw, brioche, roasted jalapeño aioli), and our son had the "Birthday Cake French Toast". Everything was excellent and tasted so fresh! For dessert, our server told us to help ourselves to the dessert table which featured fresh baked goods like cookies and cannoli. Such a great experience! We have driven by many times and decided to stop in for dinner. We were there on a Wednesday at 6:30 and there were only a few other people there. It was beautiful weather and dinner on the terrace was lovely. We had the garlic soup (YUM!), the scallops and the steak. All were delicious, along with the birdseed bread. After, we walked around in the garden and in the woods, admiring the gardening shed and the view of the river. We want to come back for one of the outdoor events they clearly have, with a kitchen and pig roast pit in the woods. I also want to come back with a group and eat in one of the dining cabins. Someone was sitting tending the fire and offered us s'mores. We sat in the hanging chairs and listened to the birds. After, we went back and the restaurant and lobby bar had closed, but we also admired how cute the inside is with so many lamps and candles. A really nice gem. read more

The whole experience was painful. I ordered Shrimp Cocktail for my meal (I can not eat a lot) and my husband ordered Steak Frites. It took 40 minutes for my husband's meal and then I was informed that I need to order something else because the chef wasn't happy with the shrimp. Why wait until his meal was brought out to let me know. I had to wait an additional 25 mins for my meal. I do not recommend this restaurant. It is a shell of what it was years ago. read more

Im confused...does this place have 2 chefs? The good one and the clueless one? And if so, I guess we had the pretentious but actually clueless chef last night. The reason why we tried this place is because of the raving reviews but our experience was a total let down. I wish I could've taken pictures of the food but I did not think of needing to put in a review, but here I am. The ambience was definitely wonderful; the low lighting, calm music and brown tones all came together to give a relaxing, romantic atmosphere. The host and server were both nice and attentive. Unfortunately the food dragged the total experience down. We went for a date night. We had calamari for starters, for $22 it was a small plate, but most of all, it was not good at all. Calamari is our go to starter coz it's one of the few starters that me and my husband both eat. It was greasy, the breading is separating from the squid meat, the dip was this strange liquid consistency that was a little sweet. The entrees were even more disappointing. My husband ordered the hangar steak ($44) and i had the roasted chicken ($34). The steak though came in the right doneness he wanted was a little chewy and the portion was SO SMALL! A lovely restaurant in Manhattan that we frequent has a big steak for $48! Ok fine small portion right? But the taste of the steak didn't even compensate! It was bland! Now my roasted chicken, again very small portion for a $34 entree that came in with boiled, bland potatoes and artichoke stalks!, it said artichokes so i was like ok but they were not the hearts but the damn stalks. The chicken with its supposed crispy parmesan skin was sitting in a pool of broth, which again was bland. Every time you cut your chicken you cut it into this pool of broth that made the crispy parmesan skin all soggy too, it was just unappetizing overall . We were desperate to end it on a good note so we shared carrot cake (coz they ran out of the cheesecake), it was ok nothing amazing, but at least not bad. The coffee and cappuccino were ok as well. I highly DO NOT recommend dinner here. NYC prices but small portions and mediocre to poor palatability. I'm sorry to say this but all these people who reviewed and said their food was good, do not know what good food is... To Settler's Inn...man have some shame and improve your food quality. Neat old place! We did not stay here but went for breakfast. Not alot of options but I had 2 eggs over medium and home fries and it was good. I also had OJ and it was a good size juice. Drinking glasses were nice and clean which, to me, is always a bonus. My husband had the Mushrooms, Onion & Swiss Omelet. He said it was good but could definitely make their omelets smaller. read more

From the friendly front desk employees, to the knowledgeable bartenders and wait staff, to the pristine and cozy rooms and grounds, the Settlers is a wonderful place to stay. Settlers Inn is one of the nicest places to dine in the area. The building itself as well as the dining room are gorgeous. The food is excellent and the service is professional and prompt. We ordered the Smoked Trout and the Pancetta Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp for appetizers. The Smoked Trout was a whole filet served with capers, diced onion, horseradish and toasted bread. It was outstanding. The smoke was not over powering. The Stuffed Shrimp were also very tasty. I think we would have preferred the pancetta slightly less crispy but it was still good. For entrees we selected the Pan Seared Chicken Breast and the Blackened Filet Mignon topped with Blue Cheese. The chicken was moist and tender, cooked perfectly. It was served with a roasted parsnip cream and creamy barley. Both were exquisite. The blackened Filet was ordered medium and it was slightly undercooked. It was more medium rare than medium. The blackening seasoning had some serious heat to it as well. The potatoes and roasted vegetables served with it were just average. Other than the undercooked Filet and the "boring" sides with the Filet out only complaint was the price. The Filet was $59. I think pricing is off by about 20% here. You are paying Manhattan prices for NEPA cuisine. It's hard to reconcile. All in all we will go back but certainly not on a regular basis. read more

The best thing about the Settlers Inn is the atmosphere. it's always decorated nicely for the holidays and is otherwise warm and welcoming. I generally find the food to be average. We like to go there for a burger and brew, sitting out on the patio. Generally the burgers are good however, our at last visit the burgers were well done, even though my guests requested them to be medium rare, if not rare. The food came out fairly promptly, but it took a long time for our waitress to clear our finished plates and bring us a check. Overall, a disappointing experience. read more

Food is delicious. I love that they use local foods in season. Absolute favorite dessert is the sticky toffee pudding! Every staff member is always kind, considerate, and courteous. The ambiance is wonderful with comfortable seating areas outside of the dining, along with huge fireplaces and crackling fires. They also have a wonderful gift shop! The only down side for me is the dining room chairs are not very comfortable. But, that is me..and specifically because I have problems with circulation issues in my legs. Absolutely amazing food. from start to finish the service was top notch. we came here to celebrate a birthday. Cozy cabin mixed with farm to table kind of vibe. The eating area in the hotel lounge is pretty spacious, with a fireplace and everything, but we opted for take out. Incredibly easy to phone in an order, really friendly and they called back with the approximate pickup time. Everyting compacted in a small bag, but (as you can see from my plated pictures) still doesn't affect the beautiful presentation potential of the entrees. The filet mignon at medium rare was amazingly tender, and the roasted squash had the perfect autumn char. The pork tenderloin was easy to slice through, and complimented with the apple butter sauce very well. And as a veggie lover, the bountiful accompaniment was my ideal side dish. We also ordered a French onion soup, which came in three parts (soup, bread, cheese), so we could finish it up with a quick oven toast for that stringy cheese we know and love. Yum! Wow!!! Phenomenal place. It's rustic and the area is rich in history. The rooms at the Inn are cute. They are all different but all very inviting and comforting. The restaurant is even better. The food is great and the service is on point. The staff is very friendly. Wait did I mention the food is amazing? It's farm to table! Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant. Had breakfast there a few days ago because the Paupack Diner was closed for some unknown reason. Was expecting great things but was probably the worst breakfast I had in years. 2 eggs (overcooked) 2 slices of slimy greasy bacon and toast that wasn't even toasted ! just warm. For $16 you would think they could give a few slices of bacon. The toast is too thick to work with over easy eggs, but they didn't even give it time to toast. Never ever will I go back here. The squid ink pasta I had was good, but not a huge portion for the $$. The piano player all evening was OK, could have been a little more quiet.
