Service was good - we never had to go looking for our waitress, and the medium-sized clams were MOST excellent, although it would have been nice to serve the clams with bread to sop up the sauce. It was these two things that kept me from giving the place ONE star. As for the dinner itself: The food is WAY overpriced, and is truly mediocre. My salmon was over-cooked and dry. The crab cakes - which are advertised as "lump" - are definitely NOT lump, and tasted like the meat came from a can, and the cake itself was mostly filler. Some of the green beans still had their stems on them, and the beans were so tough I needed a steak knike to cut them. The risoto that was served had the consistancy of wet clay. Awful. Awful. Awful. Their web site advertises a view of the lake - and maybe it would have one if they cut down the trees and bushes. Will NEVER eat here again - MUCH too expensive for the quality of slop that's offered. I felt cheated, with the lousy food, false advertising ,and inflated "customer scores" (4.1? bull sh*t), and have already started to tell my friends to avoid the place... Came back after a year to check out the boat house and I was greeted with the fresh smell of the bathrooms when entering pure urine. Ok moved on past that to be seated after standing waiting for someone to appear. Ok moved past that and looked up to see black mold growing on the ceilings now it's time to go bc I can only imagine what the kitchen must look like. The restaurant is large, it has outdoor & indoor seating, as well as a bar area. Unfortunately the outdoor seating doesn't really have a direct view of Lake Paupack. We sat inside at a large booth. They have a full cocktail menu. The women sitting behind us ordered a pumpkin cocktail. Their menus is big, lots to choose from. Appetizers included wings, eggplant stack and more. Entrees include salads, soup, burgers, and full entrees. My aunt had the eggplant stack and liked it. I had ahi tuna on salad, the tuna was fresh, delicious and came with a homemade ginger dressing. I ordered the teriyaki bowl and honestly, it was very disappointing. The rice was watery and had no real texture or flavor. I also paid an extra $8 to add chicken, and the portion was extremely small -- definitely not worth the price. What made the experience worse was the lack of guidance from the server. I would have appreciated a recommendation, especially since what I ordered clearly wasn't one of their better options. On top of that, the service was lacking. Took over an hour to get our food. Didn't even get the drink order until 25 mins of sitting. Was not busy, plenty of open tables. Waitress was nice and kind just SLOW. Everything was SLOW. Food was okay, my sandwich was fine. But pricey for what you get but it's near a huge lake so tourist experience is expected. There are a lot of terrible reviews for this restaurant, but I don't think the one and two star ratings are warranted. Service is a little lackluster (it took us almost 10 minutes to get seated on a slow Tuesday afternoon). Food is fine but not gourmet (our buckhorn sandwich was under salted and a tad bland, though improved with mustard). And the setting is not as "waterside" as I expected (technically you can see the water from a couple of tables on the patio, but the water is pretty far away and mostly obscured by trees in the summer). All that being said, once our waitress noticed us, the service was quick, and the food was inoffensive, which is three stars in my book (and for the record I consider myself a pretty tough critic). They also have a nice area where you can play Cornhole and rings while you wait, and dogs are allowed on the patio. read more

Don't waste your time dining at the boat house. You will be much better off somewhere else. Anywhere else. The food is, well, meh ? The service is the WORST, when compared to every other place anywhere near by the lake. The prices are higher than average for an area restaurant. We recommend that you try another restaurant, maybe Cora's, maybe the promised land Inn, or even the boat house if you need to be close by. Sorry, wish we had better feed back. We do retry the boathouse every 6 months or so, hoping for a positive change, but that has not worked out in the last 3 years. Maybe 2025 will be the year of wonderful change? Maybe? We went to the Boathouse for dinner on a Saturday evening. The outside music was very pleasant while we waited for our table. We waited over 20 minutes for a party of 6 which was hard to understand since half of the restaurant was empty. They seemed severely understaffed. Our server was very friendly when he took our order but never asked if we needed any refills. My son finished his water and was thirsty the rest of the meal. The food was ridiculously overpriced and not worth it. I ordered the chimichurri steak for $30. The chimichurri sauce was not good and the steak was so chewy I could barely cut it. The rice that came with it was watery. I got a side Caesar salad and it was so overdressed it was completely inedible. Sadly, we will not be back. read more

My husband and I was really looking forward in checking this spot and realized they had high ratings. Well I'm not sure what happened but this place is really overrated and hyped up for no reason. Let's start off with my family and I were placed near a window and it was beyond freezing they didn't turn up the heat [ which is a huge turn off since it was raining & cold outside ] . 2nd we decided to order appetizers and I usually always go for the French Onion soup well it was a little bit too salty , and the Calamaria tasted as if it was frozen and soggy. 3rd we ordered our entress : My husband asked the waitress if the burgers are made fresh or frozen patties . We were advised that they were homemade there well when Mt husband and my father received there food yes it looked amazing but they were frozen patties and burnt as well and barely had any flavor. I decided to order the chicken picato dish & I didn't really care for it , the chicken was really hard & the string beans tasted as if it came out of a frozen bag. My husband and I stopped at The Boat House, Hawley PA, for a late lunch today. This is one of our favorite venues in the area since it consistently offers great food and service. Julie was our server today who was very efficient and always with a smile. We both ordered the Buckhorn sandwich (with coleslaw sides) which as always was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is just a lovely venue, inside and out. The outdoor covered porch has ceiling fans to keep you cool and help keep the bugs away. You won't be disappointed stopping at the Boat House for lunch or dinner! read more

CAUTION MENU CHANGE!!!!!!!! We've had a house up here at the Lake for 20 years. This was our favorite restaurant we would frequent 9-10 times a year. We will never return!!! If something isn't broken, you don't fix it. The new menu is absolutely terrible and crazy expensive. App of Calamari-17.00 all breadcrumb, no calamari Chicken Parm- 29.00 This one is the best... chicken n waffles witch is a chicken finger on a waffle with syrup......24.00 We asked our waitress about the new menu and she said because the restaurant is called the boathouse, they wanted to put more seafood on the menu. Can't recommend this place. Food took about an hour from the time we sat down. Most of the food was not good. Steak was cold and flavorless, fish and chips looked inedible. Brussel sprouts were raw. I had the only good dish which was the Wally roll sliders. However, they were quite small. The fries were cold and didn't have enough Old Bay on them. The coffee was cold and didn't come with cream or sugar so we had to wait until the server came by again. Cole slaw was spoiled. Really wanted to like this place but today wasn't it. They did have a huge party coming later that night so I'm sure they recouped their tips then. Bathroom was clean thank god. I don't understand how this place gets so many patrons if the service and food are so bad! read more

Food was very poor. Some how worse then the service which was also terrible! Chicken was raw for every dish and 3/7 people at my table ordered it. Not to mention the waitress was either high, stupid, or had zero training. She asked my cousin (13) what he wanted to drink and he said apple juice. It was super busy so I'm sure the food is good. We get there walk inside all the waitresses or hostess staff are standing there. Nobody greet you or talk to you. I waited a few minutes. I went up to them. I told them that we had four and a highchair And she was snarky and was like well. That makes five she said there would be a 35 to 45 minute wait so I said OK I'll go outside. Unfortunately, still slow, inattentive service and terrible food that takes forever to come out. For the price, portion size was ridiculously small on the pretzels and calamari. French onion soup somehow had a bread pudding consistency and was inedible. Probably 9 tables in the dining area last night and a waitstaff of 3 was overwhelmed as saw 4 tables complain about wait time, send food back, etc. They used to have such a great staff and solid food but just very poor experience all around, even with the new management.
