October 2023: A few weeks ago, a poster said that Fairfax Tailors had closed, and that their store was gone from Fair Oaks Mall. I went there today; they ARE open, lots of clothing in their windows, and I left some clothing to be altered. It's a good business; I don't want them to miss customers thinking they've closed. read more

My new sweater had a loop of fabric I thought it would have been ruined forever but they had it fixed like the thread has never been coming off. I meant no flaw or any sight of that thread! I hope they get good business during this pandemic and the fact the mall is dying. read more

Came here to get my bridesmaid dress tailored. Located inside Fair Oaks Mall. Upon entering, Sunny was friendly and welcoming. She immediately got to work. I put on my dress and she assured me we could make all the adjustments needed. Had to come in a few times to get it just right. Total came to $150, pricey but worth the high quality work and attention to detail. I had a positive experience here and would highly recommend Fairfax Tailors. While we were paying in advance for alterations, the lady tried to retract on her promise on a due date (we had a rush job and we only brought the suits to her because she said she could do it), and the hemming ended up being shorter than what we would have liked. The job itself was done well so nothing to fault there, but the lack of customer service was disappointing. We had nice hangers and garment bags that we wanted to keep, and she told us to leave them there so she can keep them all together. When we went back to pick up the clothes, they were on cheap wire hangers and the garment bags were nowhere to be found. After going back and forth with the lady, she actually took me to the back room and pointed out to some of the bags and asked if they were ours. I finally found our bags but they were horribly crumpled and had tiny holes in them. She then found us our hangers. If we knew this would happen, we wouldn't have left anything there. I appreciated the rush job done timely, but the disorganization was off-putting. Also, it's not very responsible to say that an alteration can be done by a certain date, and then ask if we can pick it up at a later date once we've paid. read more

Way too expensive, was quoted $180 to tighten up the top of a jumpsuit that was too big in the bust. It was a total of 4 areas that were pinned. I told her nevermind bc that was way more than I paid for the outfit itself read more

Super shady. Do not go here! I had two dresses altered. The price was high but I moved forward with the transaction because I loved the dresses and wanted to wear them again. When I picked them up, the alterations were fine BUT there was now a black stain on one of them. They told me to bring the dress back so they could clean the stain.The stain did not come out so when I asked her what the next step was because 1. alterations were expensive 2. I could no longer wear the dress with this new black stain that was NOT there when I dropped it off. The lady told me, "it's not my problem." She totally did not care and literally said it was not her problem. She went on to say she was not the owner so she did not care. I asked for the owner's info and she would not give it to me, according to her the owner is never there. This place is super shady, and I strongly encourage you to take your business elsewhere. read more

I brought in a pair of riding pants not long ago - the tight stretchy kind with lots of intricate seams and panels. They had vertical slit pockets on each hip that would gape open when you wore them. I brought them in to have them shortened a bit and mentioned the pockets - $20 and a lot of skill later, pockets are gone and the pants are perfect. The tailors here are so good I have caught myself rooting through my closet to see what other items I can resurrect from the "I'd love these if..." clothing pile! read more

The little man that works here is awesome. He's really nice and is willing to work with you to get the exact fit you want on your garments. He also does dry cleaning (though a little expensive because he outsources it, I like the one-stop-shop). I have never been less than 100% satisfied with anything he has tailored for me and neither has my boyfriend. His tailoring is seamless and professional. I brought a pair of pants to get cleaned there and he noticed that the hem (they were from Express) wasn't sewn -- this is a common problem with Express pants. He sewed it for me for no additional charge~! Granted, I was already altering a top and a pair of pants, but still... It is also very convenient that he is located right in the mall (downstairs by the Original Macy*s). read more

I wish I could find the right words to express my gratitude that I feel for this business. I was in urgent need of repair to my formal dress for my husband's brothers wedding (less then 48 hours). I had a Terani Couture gown that supposedly was measured for me and was supposedly altered and hemmed at the front of the gown weeks before from a store in Tysons II. I decided to try to the gown on the night before. Not only did the gown not zip up, but the gown was NEVER hemmed. Thanks to this wonderful store, they were generous enough to not only let my dress out enough to fit me (because it was the wrong size) but they also hemmed the front for me (in less then 24 hours)! The dress fit beautifully. I was overwhelmed with emotion for their gracious patience and amount of time it took them to fix the dress to perfection. THANK YOU! read more

I only found them recently and wished I found them years ago b/c now I'm moving out of State. I've taken them a few things and they did an AMAZING job! I brought a formal dress which I bought from Saks. I had them take out the back zipper and make it to where you can lace the dress up on the back with nice ribbon to match. They did a FANTASTIC job! I also brought them a Michael Kors neon yellow sweatshirt dress which I had just bought. The neck was way too high and felt like it was choking. I had them make it off shoulder and make it smaller since it looked like a balloon on me! They are very courteous, nice, and professional! I give this company ten stars**********!!! read more

Turn around time was average - I didn't need my dress by a certain time so I'm not sure how flexible they are with deadlines. It was ready in 7 days. I hardly get anything tailored so I'm unsure of pricing. But I was charged $60 for a hem on a dress with a chiffon overlay. It was a bit steep I thought. Then I asked how much for straps (the bride requested this, otherwise I would have purchased one with straps) and she wanted $15 for each strap! Needless to say I didn't get it done, because then the tailoring would have been MORE than the purchase price of my dress. Unreal. Next time I will research more. Plus the only thing convenient about this place is that its located near an entrance ... of a mall. There's nothing convenient about having to go to a mall. Bleh. read more

I went to Fairfax Tailors based on Nicole O's review. The first time we met I noticed her clothes were really nicely tailored. We are both shorties and I kept thinking, "What's her secret?" Now I know! His name is James and he's one of the two employees I saw at Fairfax Tailors on Thursday. I happen to be in Fair Oaks Mall fairly regularly and decided to drop off a pair of jeans to be hemmed. These were American Eagle Jeans in the "short" size that was about an inch too long for me. James had me stand on a small platform in my jeans and asked how I wanted them. I told him, he made a mark on my pants, and told me it would be ready in a couple of days. There was a huge hole due to drag, so he wasn't able to preserve the original hem, but honestly, I can't tell the difference. At $12, it isn't unreasonable, either. They were ready at 5pm on Friday but I had my boyfriend pick them up Saturday afternoon with no issues. read more

The guys at Jos. A Banks in the Fair Oaks Mall turned me on to them a long time ago. Truth be told, I've never been to another tailor than Fairfax Tailors. Because of this, I can't really say whether or not their price points are high. Based on other reviews, my gut instinct is that they are a little bit on the high side, but they do good work and can turn around items pretty fast if you ask them to. And their location is convenient too. You may ask "How is a tailor located in the mall convenient?" Well, if you buy something in the mall and need it to tailored for a specific timeline, they're right there. How's that for convenient? For example, I bought a new suit and sports coat at Jos. A Banks on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago. All of the dining and Yelping and no exercising makes Scott a large(r) boy. I bought the suit, took it down to Fairfax Tailors for alterations, indicating that I needed them for Tuesday. She said they would be ready after 5PM on Monday. And they were ready, the jacket and pants were at the perfect length, and I looked sufficiently fly for my client lunch meeting on Tuesday. Fair Oaks Mall is pretty much on my way home, and I know the mall well enough that getting in and out is pretty easy. So yes, for me the location inside the mall is convenient. I get good results from them at what I think is a decent price point, and I'm comfortable with what they can and can't do, and their end results. There's probably a better tailor out there, sure, but I don't need to take the time (and risk) to find out who that might be. read more

This is probably the place I will be taking all of my suits / shirts in the future. I brought my first suit in last week and, when I came to pick it up, was surprised to find it fit perfectly. I was expecting to have to ask the owner to redo a section or two...but, no, he did a perfect job. When I initially brought the suit in, I explained to the owner what I wanted and showed him a picture to ensure he understood what I was talking about. The finished product pretty much mirrored the picture exactly. As far as price goes, this was my first suit tailoring, so I can't compare to other shops. I paid 172$ to have my jacket and pants altered. The shoulders and back of the jacket were taken in, the sleeves were lengthened, and a small hole was fixed. For the pants, the waist was taken in and the hem was lowered. The jacket totaled around 125$ and the pants were a little above 40$. I dropped the suit off on a Saturday and was told to come back the following Saturday to pick it up. The owner himself is very friendly and accommodating. The only reason I'm not giving it a 5 is because I'm unable to do a price comparison. read more

They're knowledgeable, they know how it's supposed to look and fit and they make it fit. I brought my tux for my wedding there because I didn't have too much faith in Men's warehouse next door and it is an important day. (Wedding day isn't here yet so horrible Men's Warehouse review is soon to come.) I enjoy working out and have ridiculous sized arms and chest but a little skinny waist so tailoring is always necessary. They took time in getting the measurements right and had the garment ready when they said they would. I can't speak to the bad review regarding turn around time because I wasn't on the clock when I brought my tux to them, In fact, I didn't pick it up till a week after they called to say it was ready. When I did come to pick it up, it fit perfectly which is all you can really ask for. I would definitely go back to them in the future. read more

I went in to get some jeans tailored, I got the waist altered and the legs shortened, as well as fixing the general fit of the jeans around my calves and thighs. It's a lot of work so it wasn't cheap, but within a week I got them and they fit perfectly! The young man assisting me was friendly and accommodating. Will definitely return if needed. read more

Took a pair of trousers here to have hemmed. Good work in a timely fashion. A bit pricey $18 compared to my old go-to in Springfield for such a simple job. Even though they are clearly in the Fair Oaks Privilege Card Program they refused to accept it. The younger lady which assisted when the trousers were dropped off was a bit rude but the slightly older lady who assisted on pick up was very nice. Will try a different tailor when services are needed again. read more

I took two shirts to have them fitted to my arms and a pair of trousers to hem and taper. I showed the lady exactly how fitted I wanted the shirts to be. She deplored how tight it seemed, but I insisted. When I returned, my shirts were still loose on the arms (inch pull) and my pants looked like they were only hemmed as there is still a huge opening at the bottom. To their defense, I can see a slight taper, but as I'm comparing them to my other uniform trousers, it's not by much. They have done this to me before, where I specifically tell them what I need, but they go ahead and tailor to their liking. Last time I told them the shirts and pants weren't tailored as requested and they charged me again to have them redone. This time around, I'll just take my uniforms elsewhere. If you don't care about exact measurements, this may be the place for you. read more

I am absolutely pleased with Fairfax Tailors. The staff is so nice and extremely helpful, especially James! He is fast, thorough and efficient. He was super nice to my toddler daughter also! They are amazing when it comes to alterations! Last year I brought in a bridesmaids dress to be hemmed (because, like the other ladies on here, I am petite). I was super nervous because there was no replacing this dress should something go wrong. So I trusted the reviews on Yelp and brought in my dress. He was so friendly and listened to exactly what I wanted done. This wasn't going to be an easy dress to hem, because it was multiple layers of hard to work with chiffon in a wrap and pleated style. I also told him I needed it within 3 days because I was leaving. He said "no problem"! I picked it up on the third day, and tried it on. You could not tell it had been altered! The fabric flowed nicely and the hem was small like the original! Needless to say I was extremely happy! So now I only trust James and Fairfax Tailors. I have expensive military uniform items I will only bring to them. I absolutely recommend!! read more

I see some negative ratings on here and don't understand why. I think the people on here hurt the average by having too high expectations. I had the best possible experience with this tailor. She under-promised and over-delivered. It's the best tailoring job I've seen, she hemmed pants and gave my fat body more breathing room by extending the waist. As noted by the other reviewers, this place is run by a cute, older couple. The tailor is super nice and really does his best. I went here to get a bridesmaids dress re-fit and he really did a stellar job. Needless to say, there were no wardrobe malfunctions at the wedding. He insisted that the correct shoes were worn so he could get a good measurement. He also had a set pricing system based on the number of layers for the dress, so there was no guesswork for prices. I'm definitely coming back here for all of my tailoring needs. I think pants here are relatively cheap too. read more

My in-laws bought me a suit as a gift when I got married a few years ago. But as it's almost always the case when you receive clothing from older people, it's too big. I've only wore it twice since I received it. It's a shame because it wasn't exactly a cheap gift. The rise of the pants was way too high (above belly button), the legs and seat of the pants were way too baggy, causing it to look like "grandpa" pants. And the shirt was very billowy (think of a parachute). So I took the dress pants and shirt to them to slim it down. I didn't have to tell them in detail what I wanted. All I told them was that I wanted it to be more fitted, and they told me to come back in a week. I just picked it up today, and everything fit really well. The altered billowy shirt fit a lot like my favorite dress shirt. It fits very well, tapering down, so that it doesn't billow out when tucked in. The pants no longer look like grandpa pants. I can finally wear this suit in public now :) The only downside was that the service was bit on the costly side. I have a blazer that I want to alter, and it came out cheaper to buy a new one than to have it altered here. But they do a good job, and if you don't mind paying a bit extra for good service, then this place is a winner. So despite the price, I'm giving it 5 stars because I really do like the results. And I would go back for future alterations. read more

I was really happy with this tailor! I brought in my wedding dress to be taken up at the hem and out at the waist (from a size 0 to a size 2 because I gained weight). It only took 1 week, the price was competitive, and it looked great! When I first picked up the dress I thought they forgot to take it out because it looked so good - I couldn't even tell where they made the change. But it fit perfectly! My only criticism is that they wouldn't insert bra cups for me. I'll probably go to another tailor for that. But otherwise very impressed with the quick, good, polite service. read more

Used to go here all the time a couple years ago and was always satisfied. Something must have changed because the recent items I've gotten back after dropping them there were not good. I needed two pairs of Nike Golf pants shortened, the lady measured me and everything seemed like it would turn out fine. I got them back and the stitching isn't straight, the now new ends of my pants seem like they were dragged through a pair of scissors and its just not what I've experienced in the past. I'm a petite person, that being said, I have to get EVERYTHING tailored. Thanks to Yelp and to Tara, I found Fairfax Tailor in the Fair Oaks mall. He is amazing! I bought in my "priceless" suit and two blazers for him to tailor. AMAZING! Usually when I get my pants pinched in, you can tell because of the fit, but with him, it feels like what the original pair should. He is a little bit more expensive than most places (trust me, I've been to a lot of tailors), but so worth the money! I have three more suits and I'm taking them back to him. I don't like the service .. i bought expensive dress for my brother wedding, she rained my dress .. really i don't recommend this tailor ,, the first time she says : yes it is easy job don't worry , then she even doesn't know how to fix a dress ... i am pretty sure she only can fix simple dress or pants.
