Brought an old coat to the shop with the lining completely destroyed. I loved the coat but thought I was going to have to get rid of it since how badly destroyed the lining was from 11 years of use. I dropped it off here and within 2 weeks they put a completely new lining in, they even recreated the pockets and the decorative trim on the edges of the lining. It looks just as good as new (and will likely last even longer since the material they used feels even more sturdy). I've used this place in the past for simple tailoring jobs like getting my suits fitted or pants hemmed, so I knew they did good work, but the quality and attention to detail on this repair was amazing. I came here because this place had good reviews. I brought the extra fabric from one of my dresses and asked if they could make a neck tie for my partner. The man I spoke with told me it would be $350 .... I went to Merrifield Tailoring Shop a mile and a half away and they charged me $30. This is my first review, ever. I love these people. I brought to them an Irish Wool blanket that my dog had torn up. I asked them to make as many scarfs as he could. He thought only two. When I went to pick them up they had been able to make a third and had a surprise for me. At no charge, they made a lovely satchel with an interior lining and a zipper. I recently visited best tailoring for a simple pants hemming, and I now understand why people are saying the management is new. The owner seemed disinterested in what I wanted, repeatedly dismissing my requests for where I wanted my pants hemmed. Despite my insistence, he insisted that it wouldn't look good, completely disregarding my preferences. The whole point of going to a tailor is to get garments tailored for you and only you. Also you will be charged $25 to for a "fitting" literally just putting your garments on and telling him where you want it. Sadly, I'll be taking my business elsewhere to get the errors fixed. Hopefully, they'll understand the value of customer satisfaction and attention to detail. read more

Excellent work! I have orangutan arms, which means that my favorite leather jacket has always looked short on me. I brought it in to see what could be done and he attached some nice sleeve cuffs to elongate them. Most tailors would have just done some simple stitching to make this alteration, but here you can tell that time and care went into hiding every stitch, the end result looks like it was always meant to look like this. 10/10 will be returning again! read more

I brought in a couple of items to be adjusted/repaired last week, one of which was a very old, beat-up beloved sweatshirt. It had a series of small holes on the front, so they sewed on 2 pockets of the same color as the sweatshirt but of a different fabric to cover them (rather than patches) - and they did it beautifully. Both the sweatshirt and the sleeve-lengthening on a dress coat were very well done, as always (I've been going here for years). But a special shout-out about my sweatshirt! This place should not call themselves tailors. They have ruined my designer clothing. I had a sweatshirt with a minor tear and asked to saw the tear. They sawed over the entire trim line twice and now the clothes look like a cheap fake. They charged 40 dollars for this. Awful service. Be aware and stay away. read more

My husband has been going to them for years so I brought in 2 brand new skirts to be hemmed. The women suggested that I hem them to where the knee caps end. I said I preferred my skirts to hit just slightly above the knee. When I picked up my skirts, I noticed a purple stain on one of the white skirts. I pointed it out to the owner. She looked at it and said "ohhh, yah maybe lipstick." I didn't think it was lipstick, it looked more like a liquid stain...juice maybe. I told her I wasn't happy about this because it is a brand new skirt. She said "I know." She said it was an accident. Then she started speaking agitatedly in her native language until her husband came over. He came over, looked at the stain and told me to take it to the dry cleaners, what's the problem. I shook my head (trying to stay calm and professional) and said I was concerned that it will leave a mark. He looked at my other skirt and asked it there was a stain on that one. I said no (although it was also a brand new skirt but looked like it had been rough handled and sitting crumpled on the floor). He finally told his wife to give me $10. Then he walked away with a dismissive wave signaling the issue was settled. First, what is wrong with people's refusal to apologize. It's not a sign of weakness. Whoever believes, never apologize, is conceited and arrogant. A simple sorry goes a long way. It's courteous, shows remorse, and shows empathy. Second, when I got home, I tried on the skirts. I started laughing immediately. Both skirts were hemmed below my knees... Third, I paid $80 to hem 2 skirts. Which may be reasonable for quality work but considering that she did not hem them to my specifications and returned my skirts in shoddy condition was not the service I expected. My husband has never had an issue with the clothes he brought in. And stains happen. What earned this business a 1 star review is how they dealt with the situation. It was rude and disrespectful. It would've changed my opinion entirely if they simply offered to dry clean my skirt and apologized. read more

Took a pair of pants to be hemmed was told $35. Should have walked out at such a ridiculous price anyway agreed and owner sent someone else to measure them. Said 1 week to do this simple job but whatever. When I arrived to pick them up he could not find them said he would call me when he found them but never did. I went the following day with a receipt and he gave me a refund for the price of the pants and $35. for the service. Trying to make a long story short here.....but...I cashed the refund check and he calls to tell me he found my pants. I return to pick up my pants and gave him the money back in cash and asked him for a signature saying he received the refund in cash and he refused. I called the cops as I wanted some documentation that I returned the refund in cash. He told the cops if I returned to his shop he would charge me with trespassing lol . When I got the pants home I noticed one leg was longer than the other. So I took them to another tailor/dry cleaner shop they charged me $13. to fix his mess. Weird experience with this guy ever. He told me at one time he was some kind of important IT supervisor with the government and has some kind of letter in a frame on the wall to document. I told him if he was once that important ; me getting a pair of pants hemmed should be an easy task for him to complete. Anyways I came for a simple tailor job not really interested in his life story.just wanted to get a pair of pants hemmed. The price to alter an evening dress was double what two other tailors quoted me at after the fact, and the new owner made it seem like he was doing me a really big favor by not charging me more for the service and for having the dress back to me (a simple hemming job) more than one week later. For all my vertically challenged people, finding the right tailor is a necessity. In this updated review, I give Best Tailoring services a 5/5 for Mr. & Mrs. Kim! Best Tailoring gets a 4/5 because parking is a hassle. I came to them with a garbage bag of clothes: 3 scrub pants, 2 maxi dresses, 2 winter turtleneck dresses. The store is small but there are 2 dressing rooms and a giant mirror to try on your clothes as she marks the lines for what you want to get done. Mr. & Mrs. Kim can speak English, but having a Korean speaker/interpreter (I had my mom with me hehe) is beneficial to really get the precise measurements you want for your clothing. While I am trying on my pants/dresses, Mrs. Kim has the coolest tool that shoots out baby powder to create a symmetrical line all around your dress, so she knows where to cut and hem. I ended up not getting the 2 maxi dresses done, but the 5 pieces of clothing were finished in exactly 1 week. She neatly had each clothing on a hanger, bundled them up, and put a giant plastic covering over them. Everything fits perfectly and their pricing is fair. I will be returning here for more of my clothing dilemmas! read more

The tailor here stained my brand new dress with blood. I walked in with a brand new dress (with tags still on) that required hemming and walked out with small blood stains on it near the hem where the tailor touched it. I know the dress was stain-free prior to going here because I looked it over earlier in the day and it was new! The tailor had visible cuts on her arm (some covered by bandaids). When I asked (reasonably) if it could be from her, she and her husband got extremely defensive and basically yelled at me. I meannn... how could that just be coincidence?!? My brand new dress was fine, she went to hem it, and happened to have multiple cuts on her arm that either weren't properly covered, or weren't covered at all... yuck I'm extremely upset as I now have to go pay to dry clean a brand new dress (and the blood probably won't even come out- which means buying ANOTHER $100+ dress!!). Avoid this place at all costs!!!! They did not handle it professionally at ALL either, and I'm now out of pocket trying to fix this at the last minute. read more

I recently purchased a sports coat online. I am used to going to other big name stores, trying to the suit jacket on, having them size and tailor it, then walking out feeling just ok with the quality. It has just been "satisfactory". I wanted to try something different by getting it online and then finding a separate tailor. Best, decision, ever! The people that work here are very kind and do a great job. My suit looks amazing. It was trimmed just right. Now, I am a taller, thinner person with longer arms, so I end up getting a suit that is 44L when I should be a 42L. The sleeves fit just right, but the chest is baggy. This little hut on the side of the road on Lee Hwy makes you think that it would blow over if the wind gusted too hard. It's kind of deserted and in the middle of no where. I'm sure that many people have driven past it, thinking it was a deserted little hut. But if you need something tailored, you should check it out because they do a pretty good job. I'm one of those people who can't fit into pants off the rack. They all have to have some work done on them. So I stopped by at Best Tailoring because the people at Pan Am Cleaners couldn't alter the waist of my jeans. I didn't know that that was such a hard think to do, but apparently it is. I burst into the doors of Best Tailoring at 6:59pm (one minute before close), thinking that they would tell me to come back the next day, but they didn't. They smiled and brushed off my apology and took my measurements. They didn't seem bothered that I made them stay a bit after closing time to figure me out. The husband and wife team that runs the place were pleasant and friendly the entire time. 3 days later, my jeans were ready to be picked up. Unfortunately, they weren't perfect yet. They were still a bit loose. They apologized profusely and promised that it would be done right when I came back for them. And they were. Another 2 days later, I picked up my jeans and they now fit like a dream. The owners/ tailors here are friendly, happy and helpful people. They do a good job and take responsibility for their work, which is a rare thing nowadays, I find. If they don't get it right the first time, they promise to work on it until it's perfect. They are a bit pricey, ($30 for fairly extensive altering on jeans; $6 for a simple mending on a sweater) but I would rather pay more for a good job than go cheap on something that is going to fall apart. I think I'll be coming here from now on, for all my tailoring needs. read more

Holy Mother of G-d, it's a miracle! After three very reputable tailors told me the tear in the seat of my pants was impossible to repair, Mr. & Mrs. Kim came to the rescue. Not only did they fix the rip, they matched the cross-stitching perfectly to the pants as to make the repair virtually imperceptible. I have gone to this tailor's for a few years & the original husband & wife & Mark , have given me a very consistent quality service & always polite & courteous. I did not realize the business is under new ownership, when I had to go in for a simple hem that came undone. I had spent lot of money on multiple suits & they had altered them for me. When I went in and asked to have it refixed,& asked to have it done & ready in one day half day time frame, & explained that I needed to have it for special event ,the new owner was not in any way helpful He said I don't seem to understand that they are very busy . I explained that work was done by them and I paid a lot& this work literally takes them less than 10min& willing to repay & pick up next day. He said this is new ownership. The manner & tone was rude & offended I left. You take over a reputable business, it is one thing if you don't want to help out a repeat client's emergency, it is another thing to be abrupt. The original husband & wife were extremely gracious & the only other time, I had gone in with emergency was for a button loss which they did & not even charge, with a smile. I miss that! read more

I've been going to this place for about a year, but this weekend was the last straw in a series of disappointments with the quality of their service and their product. In the past six months two of their alterations (blind hem on a pair of pants) have come undone and once they actually charged me to fix them! Yesterday, I went to pick up a dress and a skirt I'd had taken up. They charged me $30/each, when their previous price had only been $15! I told the woman I hadn't been informed they had doubled their prices and I wouldn't have had them do the work had I known it was going to be $60+tax. The woman actually laughed in my face! I told her I didn't think it was very funny and she repeated the prices over again and giggled. I ask them to honor their earlier prices and she giggled again and said, "no, is price." This was her refrain throughout the conversation. I have never had a business owner laugh at me before. I originally tried them out due to the great reviews on Yelp and continued to use them, despite their parking lot, which is a death trap. I won't be going back after this last experience. read more

After reading all the reviews, I gave this place a try, and boy am I pleased with the results! Like Mariko F., I could never fit into jeans that are off the rack. I bought a pair of 7's, and the pants legs are way too long. I have this one lady I always go to for years back in the Bay Area for tailoring needs, but after moving here, I haven't found a good place yet. Based on the Yelp reviews, I took a chance with this place and my pair of $100 jeans. Eeeks, I was nervous! (BTW, off topic, I found 7 for All Mankind jeans for $100 at Loehmanns in Falls Church. These pants are normally $175 at Nordstrom). :) The Korean lady/store owner was very nice and attentive. It took her literally 2 seconds to measure the bottoms of my pant legs, and said to come back in 3 days to pick them up. Wow, that's it. Did she measure everything correctly? That whole process of measuring seemed way too fast for me. In 3 days, I picked up my pants, tried them on, and the bottom of the pant legs were shortened perfectly. I was 110% satisfied, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg -- only $12 for that! I will definitely be back with more items next week for alterations. Well the first review did motivate me to check out this place and I'm SO glad I did! Its a small place that's easy to miss, but best believe you do not want to pass this place by if you're in need of a good tailor in the fairfax area! I had a vintage formal gown that needed a mini tailoring overhaul. I know i probably could've bought another dress from the dept store off the rack but I fell in love with this one at first glance. The dress fit perfectly around my mid-section and chest but years of being a fitness enthusiast made my back too broad to zip the dress all the way up. I also needed a hem, the bodice fixed and the liner altered. The seamstress was swift and handy and had a few creative suggestions to make the dress more functional and figure-flattering and yet still stylish! When I picked up my dress and tried it on it was as if it came that way! When I told people of all the alterations they all said the same thing: I thought the dress came that way! I have a old bridesmaid dress that WILL be taking a little trip with me to the cute like hut on the side of Lee Hwy. :) read more

I wish I could give negative stars to this place... I should have ran out when they pulled bait and switch on me... I wanted to shorten sleeves on my suit jacket and a dress shirt. I called them and they quoted me $15 for the shirt and $30 for the jacket. Very good prices... When I was done, they handed me a bill for $60!!! When I questioned it, they told me since I asked them to take off the length from the shoulder vs sleeves, it was 15 extra for the shirt! I was not happy about it, but since I already drove there and took measurements I decided to bite on that bait. Wish I did not. When I came to pick up my stuff week later, I saw the jacket... instead of 3 buttons, I saw only 1!!!!!!!! When I asked what the hell happened, they gave me all this run around on what they did and how they usually alter the jackets by taking off from the bottom instead of shoulders, yada yada... So in the end, I have ruined suit jacket, I was over charged for a shirt alternation and needless to say I would NEVER set up foot in that horrible place. BEWARE!!! read more
