Most recently, I brought her my wedding dress which had been ruined by poor alterations done by a luxury wedding dress store in D.C. Not only did she drastically improve the fit, she also managed to fix the botched alterations. Most impressively, she did all of this in one day. My wedding was out of town and in two days, yet she worked her magic to pull off a miracle. Kelly cares about her work and takes pride in it, all while providing outstanding customer service. I'm giving this review three stars because I didn't get in the door, but I would like the owner to have feedback in case he or she would value it without it wrecking their overall rating. I read a glowing review of The Tailor Shop in the Best of NoVA 2023 edition of Northern Virginia magazine (June 2023) and decided to try it out with a couple of nice, higher end off the rack suits. I called ahead both times because I wanted to make sure the shop wasn't inundated with business at the time. Both times, the woman who answered (I think the same person) was pretty impatient with me and, frankly, rude. She made me feel as though my business would be an inconvenience, so I decided to skip the trip and use my normal tailor who is good and doesn't make me feel like a burden. The tailoring at this place may be amazing, and they may be oversubscribed, but hopefully we can all be polite and nice to one another and recognize that we would all still like to be valued and treated kindly in interactions, even if the interactions are about getting clothes tailored. I hope to hear down the line that things have changed to give it a shot and see what NoVA magazine's glowing review was about! read more

I trust the tailor shop with any article of clothing I own. I can drop off a silk dress or a cotton pant to get altered and I don't think twice. They do impeccable work. They are perfectionists when it comes to tailoring. I have gotten vintage pieces tailored and sent brides to tailor gowns and grooms to tailor their suits there as well. All my friends and clients that I have sent to the Tailor shop have thanked me because they always love the end product. TIP- it helps to give time for complicated alternations because the shorter the window of time, the more expensive it will be. Also it's okay to ask if an alteration is worth doing or if it is wiser to buy a new top or pant. I'd ask Kelly and she would help you weigh your options. Mr. Foutah is also really kind. He takes precise measurements and asks you to sit, move etc. to ensure you will be able to enjoy your article of clothing after the alteration. They are my go to alteration spot. I have probably recommended at least 20 people to them and had over 25 things sewed or altered by them in the last 2 years. read more

I found this shop by chance when I needed to have my dress hemmed when I was a bridesmaid and they did a fantastic job. Reasonably priced as well, the quality is what you pay for. Once planning for my wedding came around and I needed my dress altered, I was googling places and reading reviews. This shop came up again and had other happy brides, so I decided to go for mine. I worked with Kelly and she did a phenomenal job on my straps, sizing it down to fit my waist, the bustle, and hemming the length without losing my train! She was so flexible with my schedule and responded to me very quickly. She had taken my straps up (the top has a base mesh material with lace sown on top) and you can't even tell its altered. She also took the time to talk to me about the different types of bustles (which I was unaware of) and we eventually decided on a french bustle. The bustle is so subtle and beautiful, very flattering to my A-line style dress. Finally, the hem was done perfectly with my heels on and I didn't lose much from the train length. All amazing quality work that I feel was reasonable for what I paid for. I highly recommend this shop for any of your tailoring needs, but definitely for brides since I feel like it's hard to research and find a good tailor for wedding dresses. I am not one to write negative reviews but was very disappointed and uncomfortable with my experience here. First I reached out on Yelp to several businesses with my request for a dress and decided to stop at the Tailor Shop. They responded as willing to work with me and it seemed like a great fit due to proximity to my home and fairly positive reviews. I brought in a dress needing more space in the bust area, understanding the dress may not have much to give but was completely open to suggestions to make it work. I love the creativity many seamstresses have in their craft! When I came inside, I was greeted from the back of the store and was told to try on the dress. Not the warmest welcome but alright. I put on the dress and was immediately told my request was impossible and there was no other solution except to purchase a different dress. Not only that, but my dress was then zipped down and fairly open in front of the front windows and it would have been much more comfortable to do this in a private area. I have never felt so shamed and exposed at a tailor (and I have given my business to excellent ones in the Vienna/Tysons area who were able to alter dresses with a similar request, all of which were not available on this day unfortunately). After this, I decided to go to my usual dry-cleaning and small alterations spot in Tysons who took their time to work with me on a perfect solution for the dress in a timely manner. read more

Absolutely fantastic! I worked with Kelly who made sure that my wedding dress and my mom's Mother of the Bride dress fit perfectly. My dress was pretty loose on me before and I needed to have it bustled and shortened. I also needed it taken in around the chest area and the shoulders adjusted. Kelly is so skilled and knows exactly what she's doing. I had 3 fittings (one each week) with the final 3rd fitting being my last one. I was so worried about getting my dressed altered because it was entirely lace and very dainty and delicate. It was important to me to find a very experienced and knowledgeable tailor. Kelly made sure everything was perfect! I cannot thank her enough! I have no idea if pricing would've been cheaper elsewhere, but I know for certain that The Tailor Shop was worth every penny. I've had 4 items tailored here. The first two were hemming and they turned out okay though one was not finished well with threads hanging. The third was not what I asked for. Very disappointed in results. Final job and last straw was altering a dress. She did a lousy job. Not what we asked for. Dress was too tight. Will not go back. Lady had a bad attitude. Had me pay up front which I would not do again. She charged a lot of money and the work was subpar. Definitely going to find some place else. read more

Did a complicated hem for a bridesmaid dress. Done in less than a week! Looked great!

My story starts like most others. I was asked to be in a wedding and had to buy a dress. I'm short so of course I had to have said dress altered. That's where The Tailor Shop comes in. I searched for a place close to my home/work and 3 places came up including here. 1 of them quoted me a price and when I called back to reaffirm that quote, changed the price due to the material. Another told me it'd be $75 to take my dress up 2 inches because of (again) the material. Finally, The Tailor Shop quoted me $50, even after I told them the dress was chiffon. It was easy enough to find, but be forewarned: parking is difficult. I walked in to a shop that looks like its seen some years. After I was greeted, I was asked to put the dress on in one of their small dressing rooms. It took about 5 minutes for my dress to be pinned and chalked. I was maybe in the store for all of 15 minutes. I was asked when I needed it by, and responded w/ a date that was 2 weeks away. They said I would have it in 1 week. Ok. I was then told that I could prepay or pay when I picked it up. I decided to pay then. That $50 I mentioned? It was actually $45. A week later I had my dress in hand, hemmed quite nicely. I would definitely bring more things here to be altered. read more

I LOVE to have my clothes altered here, after overhearing someone local describe how excellent the quality of this shop is. I've been to other nearby tailors and have had clothes ruined. I will never go anywhere else after having two excellent services completed here. I first had a regular pair of jeans hemmed, and loved the work done. Next time, I brought in a pair of wide-legged pants. The first time around, the hem wasn't quite short enough, but Mr. Foutah consulted with me very thoroughly in order to fix them to my liking. The entire time he was so courteous and considerate of my ideal outcome. The entire time I felt completely listened to, and was more than happy to wait extra time because I trust his decision making. It was worth the extra wait - my pants turned out perfectly and I am beyond thrilled! I will absolutely be back. Please, even if you live a little ways out from Vienna, it is worth the drive. I had a catastrophic experience with Lan's Tailor in Mclean and came here. I lost a bunch of weight and have a ton of really high end suits--zegna, hugo boss, hickey freeman, etc., and really did not have the desire to get rid of these suits and start a new wardrobe. Kelly, who is the new owner I believe, spent significant time and effort and actually re-cut a number of these suits--they are perfect and she is outstanding. She is not cheap, but you certainly get what you pay for and would go no where else given how good Kelly is. Wife is taking a bunch of high end dresses to her next. Parking is super easy--right next to the 7-Eleven on Maple and she works on Saturdays. She is also super nice and I love giving the business to a small business like hers. Thanks again! read more

These guys are absolutely amazing! It's so nice to go somewhere where the people actually know their craft and know it well--they are true master tailors. It's like stepping back in time to the old world tailors you used to find in places like NY. They are truly the pros! I had three shirts and two suit coats altered and the one coat they even had to totally disassemble and rebuild because it was made wrong. Everything, especially that one coat came out better than original! The stitching it better and more professional and all my clothes and their seems and stitching now have that hand-built tailored look and feeling! I needed a satin formal dress taken in and straps and hem shortened. I was told by other "tailors" that the end result may not be as smooth as when I first bought it because of the material. These people are fantastic!! A dry-cleaner had botched an alteration on my favorite pair of pants. I didn't know if they could be saved, but since there were a lot of favorable google reviews on The Tailor Shop, I thought I'd try them. They undid the dry cleaner's work and then started all over and did an actual skilled tailoring job -- they lowered the waist, took in the sides and back -- and they did it in an hour. I couldn't believe how good the pants looked, how fast they did it, and for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend them, and they are my go-to tailors from now on. read more

The Tailor Shop tailored both my wedding dress and my husband's suit for our wedding. They did an amazing job. My dress was very detailed, with intricate beading all over. The woman I worked with met with me about 4-5 times for multiple fittings and to make sure everything came out perfectly. In the end, she took up the hem (the trickiest part because of the beading), inserted padded bra cups into the lining of the dress (also somewhat tricky because she then had to rework the beaded overlay so it lay flat across the bust), and shortened the strap length. When I went to my final fitting, I teared up because the dress looked so beautiful. The woman also tailored my husband's suit. She shortened the sleeves and the pant legs, and she took in the suit jacket around the torso. It looked perfect. I would highly recommend The Tailor Shop for even the most detailed work. read more
