I went to pick up my pants a few days later, and asked if she could hem another pair of pants. She told me it would cost another $15. Since I have never paid more than $10, I asked if she could do it for $10. She rudely responded and attempted to charge my credit card while I waited for 30 minutes. While I was waiting, she grabbed her phone and began listening to music. Finally, after the long wait and a lengthy phone call with the credit card machine customer service agent (on speaker so I could listen to their conversation in Chinese), she figured it out. My soft cat eye top was taken in and from the front center, which changed the look of the dress and where it sat on my chest. I said it wasn't what we discussed and it changed the dress, and they suggested cutting the cat eye corners. I showed them the picture of how it was before and said to make it just that way and the next week luckily they did--it was back as it was! The hemming was just fine and done well. The bustle loops were made of a material that was like a very thin clear fishing line. I was a bit nervous about how it would hold up but I trusted it since I'm no expert. Sadly 1 of 3 bustle loops snapped before walking into the reception and a second bustle loop snapped 10 minutes into dancing. It looks so weird in pictures but it was game time and we couldn't grab a pin. It was a heavy ballgown with a cathedral train and multiple layers. Because it was just so heavy and impossible to hold up, I had to put on my outfit from the rehearsal 30 min into dancing. Luckily I had it with me, but I was so bummed because I wanted to wear it for at least half of the reception dancing! I'd come here for other tailoring because they're quick and reasonable pricing, but not for wedding dresses.

The workers are really nice and accommodating. My friend unfortunately lost the pants to her áo dài and thought they may have been misplaced it at the store, and they were very helpful by checking their security footage to see if it was brought there (it wasnt lol). When I came in to get my dress tailored, the lady was really helpful and gave me suggestions on how I could adjust the dress. My fiancé ended up picking it up for me, and when I tried it on later, I felt like I didn't love the final look 100%. I called around 5:30 PM to see if there was any way they could help touch it up. I got there around 5:40 PM and explained that I needed it the next morning by 9 AM. She told me not to worry and to come back at 6:30 PM, right before closing. She was so nice and fixed it up for me really quickly, and there was no extra charge. I will say, I was a little taken aback by the price of the tailoring. This was my first time getting a dress tailored, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I had the shoulders adjusted, a slit added, and the back touched up, and it came out to around $150. I'm not sure if that's a normal/average price since this was my first time..... But anyway-- the place is clean, the staff is super friendly, and they were really accommodating. I'll definitely be coming back to get more of my dresses tailored and dry cleaned here! :)

The COVID-19 situation has proven to be a challenging time for everyone, but especially for small…read morebusinesses. I was introduced to Park's Dress Design and Alterations by a relative of mine, who has had some garments (blouses, dresses, pant suits, etc.) altered over the years. Mrs. Park (she also goes by Sunny) hemmed up a few of my dress slacks and corrected the sleeve lengths on one of my suits and I was pleased with the work. While the prices might be on the higher side as opposed to having these type of alterations done at a dry cleaner, Mrs. Park has had her tailoring business open in Fairfax County for over 25 years, so she must be doing something right. I'm sure I'm not the only person who has encountered challenges purchasing masks/face coverings during this COVID-19 pandemic. What makes things worse is all the conflicting information the public has been receiving on this topic. In late-February and early-March we were told face coverings "aren't effective" and "do more harm than good" so don't wear one. I was always a bit skeptical of this guidance since during my travels to Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, etc, face masks are very common. So once the "official" guidance was for folks to wear some sort of face covering, all of the masks at drug stores and on-line were sold out or available at exorbitant prices. On a whim, I called Mrs. Park to see if she had started to make any cloth masks, and luckily she had. Her business has experience a dramatic decline due to everyone staying home, but like many businesses, she's had to pivot to adjust to a changing market place. Kudos to her for being resourceful. She has a two main styles of masks to choose from in a variety of colors and patterns. What I like about these masks is there is a small metal piece that contours around the nose and two side slits for additional filtration. I find two small square pieces of trimmed paper towels work pretty well. These are also machine washable and I was told cold water works best. When i picked up my four masks for myself and family, there was a lady who was picking up seven for herself (one for each day). The masks are $15 each and while there are lots of patterns you can download off the Internet and plenty of "how to" tutorials on Youtube, it's worth it for me to just have a professional do it for me. Hours have been reduced during the pandemic, so I recommend calling first to see if she's open and if there are any masks to available for purchase.
