The only reason that this is a four-star review instead of five is because I haven't had extremely complicated alterations done here. However, I have had several simple alterations done at Best Tailoring, and they have been fast, effective, and inexpensive. The quality of the work has been outstanding, and when I have needed minor repairs they have turned them around very quickly and for an extremely reasonable price. Since I discovered Best Tailoring, they're the only tailor I've trusted to work on any of my clothes, other than major tailoring done on new suits. read more

I went here based on yelp reviews. Getting a suit tailored for the first time. Let me be clear they were truly very nice people and had no issues there. My issues are in the craftsmanship I ended up with very short sleeves on my suit and the right one is a small amount shorter than the right. I didn't think it would be a big deal but upon wearing the jack for more than a few minutes I definitely could notice the difference, and felt self conscious about it for the rest of the evening. You may ask why I didn't go back to ask to have it fixed. I take partial responsibility for not reviewing their work more closely as they did give me a chance to make sure it all looked good. Also as I stated the sleeves were already to short and getting the left sleeve shortened even more, to match the right, I feel I maybe just asking for disaster. Again Friendly, Reasonably Priced and on time with alterations and from the rest of the Yelp reviews they seems they are very good... so maybe I'm just the unfortunate 1 off. read more

I usually buy suits at Brooks Brothers and use their in-store tailor for alteration. It is convenient and they turn out well. Unfortunately I don't feel like spending upwards of $1,000 on every suit I buy, so when I bought a less expensive suit, I needed a tailor. I read through some forums with men who spend much more on their wardrobes than I do and saw this shop mentioned several times. The only other shop mentioned as often was a pricey place in Georgetown that appears to focus on bespoke more than altering an inexpensive suit. I stopped in on a Friday afternoon was the only person in the store. Seems like a husband and wife operation, and the wife marks up your suit for tailoring. Measuring went quickly, with her confirming what I believed the suit "should" look like. Price...well I don't have a barometer for that. Brooks Brothers includes basic stuff for free. Dropping off on Friday afternoon, the suit was ready the next Thursday. I picked up and there were no surprises. Fits like I expected. I have a couple more expensive suits that require some trickier alterations (apparently every brand doesn't use a 6" drop...and I let them sit for months before trying them on...so no ability to return), and since this shop also appears to do bespoke work as opposed to an alterations-only shop, I'm likely to be bringing them here. read more

My boyfriend came here to get his three piece suit tailored for a wedding. We literally came here because of the reviews here on yelp, and they weren't wrong. My boyfriend was SO nervous about how it was going to come out. He had no reason to be. The tailoring took a week. They took in the vest, shortened the sleeves on the blazer, shortened the hem on the pants and made them slimmer on the butt. I held my breathe when they told us the total and then I was so surprised with the price- $77 for all that!!! So not only did his suit look so amazing on him, it wasn't a wallet crusher either. Couldn't be more happy with their work! Side note- you must have a bill of at least 10 bucks to use your credit card. read more

The alterations I got done here weren't done poorly, but it's the price and ambience keeping me from delivering a 5 star review. The hem out of a suit pant was coming out of one leg and it cost $20 to fix it. I don't have an exact comparison, but a quick stitch like fix at other tailors has only been $6. I never, ever dry clean things not with an at-home system but my husband needed his suit dry cleaned while fixing the hem and they don't offer that here, like one would expect at most tailors. I also needed a bridesmaid dress hemmed and taken in in the bust/waist area a few inches. The combined cost of that was a whopping $106. I was pretty shocked. I know that hemming will cost more if there is lining or multiple layers involved, and they told me the 3 layers on the dress was why, but it still felt very, very expensive. Also, their parking lot is very small and crappy, making it real easy to have an accident in or getting in/out. read more

My cleaners of 15+ years recommended the place. Brought an expensive designer evening gown here. (Somehow, someones cigarette ash made a hole in it) Was not very happy with the big line/stitch in the skirt of my gown, after they sewed the hole shut. I probably could have done that at home. But since it was 100% silk gown, and the pleating disguised it, I didn't throw a fit. No one noticed but I'm not wearing the gown again and will prob hesitate to bring anything here in the future. I've brought in about 10 items of clothing to this place - I was extremely pleased with the results for 9 of them. They did a particularly excellent job shortening a pair of jeans while preserving the original hem ($30) and basic alterations (i.e., waist taken in, sleeves and bottom shortened) on a wool coat with silk lining ($100). Only 1 alteration was less than satisfactory - and unfortunately, this was for a particularly beloved item (of course). I had asked them to take in the shoulders of a trench coat. I'm not sure what exactly went wrong, but the coat now fits very strangely and uncomfortably around the chest and arms. In a nutshell: I'd be willing to bring most of my clothes here for alterations, but for really nice items, I'd probably look elsewhere. read more

I took a dress to get hemmed at Fairfax Tailors who said they couldn't do it without changing the hemline, and then remarked that for $75 they might be able to lift it from the top. Best Tailoring has wonderful customer service, the lady working there is so sweet. They charged a reasonable amount and I got my dress back two days later in perfect condition! I would highly recommend this tailor. I will definitely come here from now on. read more

Fantastic service. I had a wool outer jacket that needed a slight bit of work, so after reading the reviews here, I gave it a shot. He took a good 5 minutes to measure the sleeves (the only thing I needed work on), carefully moving from left sleeve to right to left to right... When I picked up 4 days later, the job was flawless. The cost was very affordable and much cheaper than other places I checked. FYI, custom dress shirts are $105 here. read more

I love this tailor shop! Mrs. Kim is amazing and has re-designed many of my clothes that I was ready to get rid of into fabulous new pieces. She has a great eye for design and always does a professional job. Her prices are more than fair for the quality of her work. She and her husband have created a comfortable, relaxed environment in their little white shop. They are attentive and courteous and offer suggestions for the best ways to alter garments. My first tailoring experience and I'm very pleased. I got a blazer and two shirts fitted - cost me $160. Maybe on the pricier side, but they had to shorten the blazer's sleeves from the shoulder and not at the wrists. I came back two weeks later (I wasn't in a rush). As soon as I walked in, they remembered who I was and what I had brought in. After a fitting, I thought the shirts could use a bit more fit and they did it for me no extra charge. Seriously, these people are so nice and I hope their business flourishes until they're ready to retire. read more

I've been in this area since 1982 and have never come across a tailor/seamstress pair as fabulous as these two. I have been using their services for a long time and recommend them to all my friends, one of whom even comes from Reston. Not only is their work stellar, they are honest and so very pleasant to deal with, even willing to take on an unusual task. I have a little clown music box whose right leg was torn at the hip and close to falling off. Since someone very special gave him to me many, many years ago, I really wanted to salvage him. The folks at this shop agreed to give it a try and sutured him up perfectly by hand, and the little clown has resumed his perch on my bookshelf. read more

This review is well over-due. First of all, let me start by saying it took me a while to find this hole-in-the-wall tailor shop. Most of the recommendations I got for Mr. Lee were through online forums. Yes, there are actual men's tailor forums. With the tailors I've dealth with, Mr. Lee is the best in Northern VA, bar none. William Fields is another great option, but a) he's expensive b) he's more known for bespoke tailoring. For you suit afficiendos, you probably know what I'm talking about... I brought a few suits of mine to get tailored here (one Caruso, and on the lower-end, Canali), and I'm not talking about no crap, off-the-rack Bloomys / Saks brands. I'm talking about suits with full-canvassed jackets (hand-made), Super 150s, working sleeves, aka the good stuff. Also, if you're looking for functional buttonholes, Mr. Lee is the only tailor in No VA that has the machine to accomodate that. How do I know? Because I called and checked over 20 in the area! Never would I hesitate to bring any of my suits here, and when I buy a Kiton, Isaia or Attolini, I'll make sure it comes to Mr. Lee for the quality/care it rightfully deserves. read more

The owner works the desk and is very friendly when you walk in. I brought in 5 suits and had specific instructions for care, which Sue, the owner, was happy to take care of. I have gotten over 15 men's articles altered here and the experience has always been great. They are honest too. I asked the storekeep if I should have a jacket let out for a small issue of fit and she reassured me that it seemed quite fine to her and mentioned that other men have requested an even more aggressive fit than what I was complaining about. Friendly, on-time, knowledgable, this is my go-to place for alterations. I love mom-and-pop shops like this. It's easy to pass by this business when driving home, but if you are looking for a new tailor, check them out. My husband and I were looking for a good tailor when his husband was in his sister's wedding. The suit -chosen by the groom - was discounted, but was nearly two sizes too big. We started our search for a tailor at a place in Fairfax city, but the lady there just recommended suspenders (a sign of a poor tailor). A quick google search landed me at Best Tailors. When we first met them, they knew what to do - quickly pinning around the excess fabric. One week later, my husband had a pair of pants that fit beautifully! Since then, we've been going there for everything from work pants to tailoring evening wear. They always have things on time and well tailored. Go to them. No appointment needed. Trusted the Yelp reviews and came in with a couple of suits to get their sleeves shortened. The work was so perfect that the suits look as if they were never tailored. I returned with more suits/slacks and each one was perfect. I came back today because the sleeves on a new waterproof/windproof North Face jacket were stupidly long. I expected the alternations to be noticeable, but the jacket came back perfect. You can't tell that it was altered in any way. It's still completely waterproof and they even reattached the velcro straps perfectly. I am completely amazed at the quality of their work. I will never go to another tailor again. read more

A good tailor is hard to find. A good tailor who listens to you, and measures to YOUR style is even harder. Best Tailoring doesn't disappoint. I stopped by with a few pairs of slacks to try this shop before trusting them with my wedding clothes. Sure enough, I didn't even have to wait beyond the measuring process to know this was the place for me. Great tailoring experience! I lost weight and took some of my favorite wardrobe pieces here to be altered to new sizes. The fabrics were not easy -- ranging from cotton to linen to rayon to intricate lace. All five of my items were ready in a very reasonable amount of time and fit perfect. I have lived in the area for over 25 years and these guys are the absolute best. They are wizards with tailoring and are extremely highly skilled. Can it be expensive? Sure, but it depends on what you're doing - just ask! It's SO worth it. It is far better to spend money on a well-designed garment and have it tailored to fit. One of my secrets is to shop designer outfits that are on the sale rack, and then I use the amount I saved to have them tailored to fit. You will feel and look like a million bucks. I had a silk skirt and blouse top and I was going to get rid of it because I felt dumpy in it. It was so cool to wear in the summer though, so I took it in. They fitted the top to my waistline and shortened the skirt, and the first time I wore it after that, a lady ran up to me and said "where did you get that suit?" I felt so much better in it, and ended up wearing it for 2 or 3 more years till I grew out of it. Fantastic. They are the best. read more

I love this place! I had a pair of pants that were very oddly sized, and they made them fit. The final technique was a little different than the way they were originally pinned, but I feel like that's a huge compliment to the person that ultimately sat down to do the sewing and revised the plan just a bit, because they fit perfectly on a *very* imperfect figure. Definitely worth the price- not cheap, but reflective of careful work. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I needed to get a evening dress hemmed the same day and had called a day ahead to see if they could do it. I ended up bringing in my dress the next morning and it was ready by 4 pm as promised. Not only did they do an amazing job they charged me a very fair price for their services. The people that worked there were also super friendly, professional and attentive. First of all we live over 15 miles away from this vendor but they are worth the drive! Very nice people, very professional service. My husband has brought them several fine quality pre-owned suits purchased on line and they are able to tailor them perfectly. This has saved him hundreds of dollars and look good in the process. They have expertly taken in suit jackets sleeves, pants and waist on each of his suits. Since we both have family memebers who have been tailors and seamstresses we have been taught what quality work looks like and they exceed.
