Fable & Fire is one of my favorite places to go to for brunch. The bookstore bistro is expertly designed and the cozy seating is comfortable and intimate. When I graduated with my masters in library science I knew I had to have my grad party here. The owner, Eduardo, met with us one-on-one about a month before the party and professionally planned out our day. He was extremely involved in the best way and MADE SURE we were well taken care of. We had dedicated waitresses who were very friendly and attentive and made everyone at the party feel comfortable. Each of my guest said how much they loved the bistro! Eduardo made adjustments to our plan as we needed and took the stress out of planning this party. Thank you so much to Eduardo and his wonderful staff! Fable and Fire is the perfect blend of bookstore, bistro, and coffee shop all in one. They serve pastries and coffee at the front. While waiting for your order, you can discover top sellers a few feet away. There is a fully stocked bar serving unique cocktails in the back. At the restaurant, I love to start off with crabcakes and a charcuterie board. My favorite entrées are the Bolognese and Fabled Burger. Can't wait to visit again soon. read more

My husband found this place and surprised me with a gift card for my birthday. We have been a few times and even stopped by with friends once after a road trip. We love the ambiance and the food was great. Service has been excellent all three times. We live more than 30 minutes away, so aren't able to go as often as I would like, but I do recommend this place when I can to friends. read more

LOVE this new place in downtown Rockwall! We recently moved to Texas and have been looking for a decent cocktail place close to our house. Well, we finally found it! They are doing a nice job on the classic cocktails that we've ordered so far. The service is also great, Melissa is our favorite bartender. Crossing my fingers that they will stock Creme de Violette so I can order my favorites: Aviation or a Water Lily They also have a small but nicely curated book selection. I hate to write this as this was my first time here. The place itself is so amazing. The decor is really cool and it's a really cool spot. The food was absolutely amazing. Everything we ordered was great. The downside was the service. We had to chase our server for drinks a few times. We were sat and waited 10 mins to even get water. Delicious. Absolutely delicious. I love the bookstore theme!!! You walk in and the coffee counter is there waiting to greet you. If you're just stopping in for coffee, congrats, you're going to have a great day! The vanilla latte was perfect, smooth, and not overly sweet. I could taste the coffee which nowadays seems rare. We walked through the bookstore and to the host stand where they greeted us and had us wait for a table. It was a rather long wait and the hostess was also a server so getting someone throughout the lunch to communicate was lacking but nonetheless. I loved it! The pasta was absolutely drool worthy and the meatballs added exactly what the dish needed. So very good! I would hands down come back here for pasta and coffee. This location was an absolute delight of a surprise. As you enter, you are embraced by the pleasantries of oldies soft rock/pop classics in the coffee lounge area. They have a good assortment of pastries and coffee selections. If you are interested in just a nice coffee and relaxing, this spot is not a bad option. Here are the pros: 1. Music selection and ambiance The music, as stated above, is more soft rock/pop classics from movies you would have enjoyed during the 70s and 80s. The music level is a perfect mid-level to allow you to engage in conversation without being too overbearing or muted to where you don't know which song is being played. 2. Service The majority of the staff is younger, but I need to emphasize that this isn't the typical bad experience from younger staff. Our server was very sweet, attentive, and engaging. We were also greeted by, I'm assuming, the head chef. He was knowledgeable and proud of the dishes he created in the menu -- deservingly so! We were only interested in having coffee and playing on our laptops, but once we walked in and got a chance to view the menu, we decided to get dinner lol. We were seated almost immediately and enjoyed every second. 3. Food quality We started our meal with the lamb meatballs. They were delicious! They did not contain the typical gaminess that you would expect from a sliver of lamb. It was very well done. The meat was so tender that I could have used a spoon to cut it. Next, we decided to share the shrimp Alfredo pasta which was fresh and filled with flavor. They actually separated our portion into two separate bowls which was both unexpected and appreciated. We finished the evening with tiramisu. Again...delicious. Here are the cons: 1. Parking It's downtown Rockwall...parking sucks. Good luck on the weekend. Not much more to say on this, and it isn't anything that they can do to control it. 2. Price Some of the items, while intriguing and tasty, are a bit pricey. I don't particularly count this against the restaurant though bc the quality is there, and the service + atmosphere is another aspect which goes into the price. If you are on a budget, this might not be the place to go. However, if you were thinking of going to Texas Roadhouse, Salt Grass, or similar...you should stop by here instead for a wonderful surprise. 3. Seating There is a very nice sized bar for cocktails, beer, wine; however, the seating here is not necessarily catered toward coffee cafe. If you are coming here expecting a setup similar to Starbucks, you will be slightly disappointed. This is more of a dinner library with the addition of a small cafe. I'm not quite sure how to explain it. The only reason I consider this a con is because the location might give the impression that it is more coffee cafe than restaurant. All in all, this location was a joy! The service, food, and atmosphere were exactly what we needed on a hot Saturday afternoon. The parking could get annoying, but this is to be expected in any downtown area in a weekend afternoon. The price could be out of your budget depending on what you order and how many people will be in your party. Regardless, this is a well-hidden gem in the Rockwall area which is a must if you want something different to experience which balances hometown feel with high class cuisine. read more

I am amazed how good this place was. Crab cakes are legit. I truly loved them and I am kind of a crab cake snob. I also ordered their lamb meatballs and I can't recommend them enough. My wife & I visited Fable & Fire several days ago for a quick meal, but the was much more & much better than just another meal. So many eateries serve disappointing, mediocre dishes, but here, everything we ordered was truly exceptional. Our main dishes of shrimp & grits (best ever) & chicken salad were very satisfying. I had a good chai spiced drink here the first time. Second time I came with a friend for a latte but they had not received a coffee shipment so they only had tea or decaf and we chose to go elsewhere. Returned again for a quick coffee date and the latte was good. I was highly disappointed to hear they use tap water for their coffees though, so we won't be returning for drink orders anytime soon unfortunately. They have a beautiful outdoor sitting area, and most of the room inside is set up for dining. Not much seating available for a "coffee shop". The bookshelves area is also intriguing! read more

My wife and I have been here twice, 3/14 and 3/21. We sat at the bar both times. On 3/14 service and drinks were exceptional, we ordered the carrot cake which was good, it did have raisins which my wife doesn't like, but she ate around them. Bartenders took care of it and we were happy. Service this night was top notch. 3/21 we had dinner and drinks food was excellent wild mushroom pasta was to die for, braised short rib was very good. Service was good, bartenders were friendly and nice, just a bit slower and it took longer to get drinks. If service on 3/21 was quicker this would have been 5 stars. I loved this place when we celebrated my birthday at lunch, but when I brought a friend for her birthday dinner the food was uneven. The calamari was way too salty, and we had to send one batch back for being overcooked. The lobster bisque was delicious and the Quattro fromaggio (sp) pasta was amazing. We almost didn't go because I thought it was more of a deli. Thankfully, my husband was more interested than I was because we had an incredible dinner here! We had the burrata appetizer. It was so good we nearly licked the plate. I ordered the sea scallops and hubby had the ribeye. Both were cooked to perfection, seasoned just right, with generous portions. The ambiance is unique, as you enter there's a coffee shop and bookstore area, where the back dining area is comfortable and chic, with modern seating and warm wood tones. The man running the front of house was capable and charming, while waitstaff were efficient and professional. If we are ever on Rockwall again, we will definitely return. read more

My husband and I are new to the Rockwall area, and we happened upon this place while we were downtown. The vibe is Brooklyn-hipster-cool -- lots of interesting books, loft-like space, high ceilings and a ton of character. So I give it high marks for the atmosphere. But it stops there. I don't like to give negative reviews, but after a disappointing lunch experience (pricy, too -- almost $40 with tip), I wanted to share our experience. We really wanted to like this place, but the food - and the wait time for the food (on a Tuesday) - was where it fell short. My husband ordered the Peach BBQ burger, and I ordered a BLAT (bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado sandwich). There was a considerable wait time from when we ordered our food to when it came out (almost 30 minutes - that's a lot of wait time for lunch). When our server brought out my sandwich, it looked like it sat under a heat lamp for some time. The "toast" was flaccid, and there was no discernable avocado - I expected sliced avocado, but it was mashed up and spread on the bread, which made the toast super soggy). The bacon looked like strips of dried out beef jerky - it wasn't crispy like bacon should be. It almost tasted like it was leftover bacon that was microwaved. The whole thing looked so unappetizing that I asked the server to send it back to the kitchen for a re-do. She brought out a replacement in under 5 minutes, and it didn't look any different than the one I sent back. The bacon was overcooked and hard as a rock, along with the same soggy-toast-with-avocado mash, and a small amount of tomato. It was, hands-down, the worst BLT (or BLAT) I ever had in my life. And for $13 all I could choke down from this meal were the decent fries. Also, a small thing to note about the service - we had to ask every time for our water glasses to be refilled. The service here is not what I would call "intuitive" - as in, pay attention to water refills. It's not a huge thing, but something worth mentioning. That's the difference between good and great service, in my opinion. My husband's burger was done to medium-rare, and was reasonably tasty, so there's that. We both agreed that Fable & Fire won't be on our repeat list. I might consider going back there to meet up with friends for a coffee, but that's it. What a disappointment - but hey, it's only one lunch. read more

The ambiance was dimly lit, and comfortable. The circle booths were intimate enough to have conversations with everyone. The service was prompt and attentive. We enjoyed the luxurious selection of wines and shared the pasta and salad. Very large servings. I never felt rushed and they were at capacity around 7:00 on a Thursday. Please go check them out! I stopped by here again to eat with my family and this time we visited at around 5pm. We were looking for a place to grab dinner, and my experience changed drastically from last time. I truly believe the slow service I experienced last was due to the fact that the restaurant was slow. This time, however, we were seated quickly, and our server was extremely friendly! The food was 10/10 and we will definitely be visiting again. This place is perfect for catching up with friends, having casual dinner, and the prices aren't ridiculous! The atmosphere, location, and service were all wonderful. But unfortunately, the food was just mediocre. I had shrimp and grits and my husband had pasta with bolognese sauce. Both were bland and slightly overpriced. My shrimp were small and the grits were not creamy or flavorful-just too gritty. My husband's pasta sauce was dry and tasted like it was prepared minutes before serving-not simmered like it should have been. It's a new restaurant and Rockwall is lucky to have it but they need to step up the food. Perhaps it was an off night or they're trying to work the kinks out. All that said, we will go back and just hope the food is better the next time. read more

This was such a cute place. It reminded me of something out of Gilmore Girls from the outside, on the city square with a classic vintage store front. The inside is amazing with the novel book store front and warm modern decor inside and the unique book decor features. They had live music for Mother's Day weekend, not sure was special or the norm. They said the owners husband and wife were very sensitive to peoples allergies and food specifications. They did look like there might've been more choices on the dinner menu, but not on the lunch menu. Our server said they had gluten-free bread for the sandwiches. He then came back and said no they were out. So I ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp that was supposed to be gluten-free. The salad came out. It probably had more cheese on it than it had lettuce I did not get the shrimp. I was given chicken if you call it that it was probably 1/8 of a chicken breast that was overly salted.
