They have a sales arm maybe? I'm not sure; there are two driveways for Hertz. I was coming from the south along Mannheim so I pulled into the one that I saw, since there was big Hertz signage and whatnot there. But when I went in the guy told me to go to the next driveway, as that was the car rental section. (To be clear, this first stop was also part of Hertz, just not where one goes to pick up a rental.) Anyway, this whole thing was not very clear at all (especially since, at the first place I stopped, there was a big sign that said car rental right outside the door). I had to return it a day early and there was no discount. Possibly because I had rented it as a week-long rental and extended it for the same period. Would be nice if they'd given me something back but oh well. They charge something like $15 per day if you get their toll road coverage, so either make sure you avoid toll roads or sign up for the Pay by Plate option using the Illinois Tollway app.

If you want to rent a Tesla from Hertz now after a flight, you have to find your own way 15 minutes (aka take an Uber [blk] as there is no shuttle, and go through the process in person. When it was at O'Hare it was so nice...Find your name on the screen, get in your car and go if you prepay---as I always do. Welps, when I went to retrieve my prepaid reservation, they asked for the card I used to make the reservation. I left most cards back in LA so didn't have it on me and they refused to help me further. It was bizzare on a prepaid reservation. I asked if they could just cancel it then and rebook as I can pay with some card I have on me instead. Nope. And it was weird because the guy working gave zero solutions. So...I sat on the chair in front of him and called Hertz support. They changed the credit card on the reservation to one I had with me in my possession so...I was then able to get my car. The initial guy working just looked at me blankly most of the time and was so out of it. Thankfully a second person came and was able to assist me after I hung up with Hertz support. Very strange process. Everything with my rental was fine. The car needed some serious repairs --- I've never been in a squeeky Tesla before! But it ran great for my few weeks so it got the job done. I don't know what a good rental price is but I was fine with the price I paid. I think I had the car 16 days and paid just under $500 so seemed fine to me. When I returned the car, same blank stare guy was working. He blankly stared at me as I walked in. He's terrible. Again, thankfully, another person was working and was so fast, friendly and helpful. So...Hertz has good deals but the Tesla situation makes no sense for travellers. I won't be renting from Hertz again if Teslas aren't at O'Hare. This Hertz location is really bad because of the bad support, a differentiating factor from other locations in the worst way possible.

I was nervous because I've had issues with Avis having available cars and just cancelling my reservation the day before even when a reservation is made a month in advance and they offer one way rentals. It can ruin your plans and cause so many issues and un-needed stress. It's not even they don't have available cars but don't want to give them for one way rentals , which I would say is terrible customer service when you offer the service. When I got to the Park Ridge location, I was greeted right away by Jolie and she quickly professed my reservation. She had no issues with availability and the car was identified and ready. It was nice and fuel efficient which was perfect for the 5 hour drive I had for the one way. I got the exact rental car type I wanted because I cared about fuel efficiency and not space since it was a long distance drive. We checked the car over together, and she told me about the automatic lights and also showed me where the lever is for the gas tank. Always helpful when each car is so different and it just saves hassle when you need to fill up. The gas tank was full and the car clean. Thank you Park Ridge Enterprise for making my journey stress-free.

But for this trip, I had some long drives that would have been cost prohibitive with rideshare, so I bit the bullet. I was most happy with the check-in process. I was able to do most of it online, so the pick-up at airport was fast and easy. Most importantly, they didn't try to scare me into buying unnecessary insurance or TollPass transponders. The rep showed me how to pay my tolls by plate online, and never mentioned any extras. Thank you! I had selected the premium car category, and I had the choice between an Audi S5, Alfa Romeo Giulia, and Hyundai Genesis. I picked the Audi and it was clean, well equipped , and in good condition. Apple CarPlay worked great, which basically covers everything these days - maps, radio, bluetooth calling, etc. Drop off was just as fast, and the rental car area is a short tram ride away from the Terminals. Overall easy peasy and price was competitive. I'd rent from them again, which I can't say about most of my car rental experiences.

But no worries.... she upgraded us to a choice between a Jeep, Hyundai, or Mazda, at no additional cost. We picked the Mazda CX-50, a ride so smooth it felt like it was gliding over buttered pavement!! After paying, Linda sent us on a small adventure to take the escalator to the 2nd floor, go through the parking garage, and find our chariot w the keys already inside. We also rented a hotspot (just in case we were in an area with no phone signal) which we didn't actually need bc apparently Chicago has better signal than a Verizon tower. Over 3.5 days, we drove w five people all around North Chicago, only spending $30 on gas , which in 2025 feels like a miracle!!! Return was a breeze: signs, attendants, and no drama. You will need to take the sky train and it is past terminal 5. Once you get off is at the lower level. What is confusing is they have a booth in the parking lot and at the Dollar counter inside the building where all the other rental agencies are. Don't had to the booth. It's a shell of nothing. Just go to the counter. Dollar shares with Thrifty Car rental. The agent works with both companies. I was the first in line some my flight was early. The staff were there 15 minutes before 6a.m. Yet at 6a.m. they didn't open. Strange. The guy that help check is in did the bare minimum. Did not explain a thing. The nice thing was he was not pushy about upsetting anything. He just wanted to get it over with. We were the only ones in line. Why the 4 stars? The price and we got an upgrade to a midsize car that was in great shape. It was a Toyota corolla so I'm not so sure it was mid size but it was fine.
