    Stay away from Thrifty. First of all, the wait time of Thrifty's at O'Hare Airport was outrageous,…read morealmost an hour standing in line, leaning on your luggage! It's a long line like the DMV's, while Alamo and Enterprise next to it had no lines as they operate smoothly. I got stuck at Thrifty's because I booked it through Expedia and it's non-refundable and dates not even changeable! To make matters worse, Thrifty's charged me $489.24 on top of the $354.84 I already paid Expedia (so $844.08 total for 4 days use!) and I didn't notice it until too damn late! So apparently I bought myself two full coverage policies, TWO! One from Expedia, the other from Thirfty's. I took my complaint to Better Business Bureau but arghhh it's apparently my fault for not paying attention to the receipt! I didn't even use up all the gas in that car either, I didn't have time! I got charged $80 for fuel. I paid so much. The attendant charged up everything and I had not paid attention! I will NEVER pick Thrifty's again, ever, and will tell my story to anyone, everyone who would listen, for years!

Looking back at the rental documents loss damage coverage that I did not agree to had been added. I had declined the additional coverage in person picking up the vehicle because I am covered on my personal insurance. Then, after going through my options to which I said no, I had to sign. It was one of those pin pads for signing that don't show you the full waiver, but just leave a small box for your signature. I called customer service, after not hearing back from my first inquiry for a week, and was told because I signed there's nothing they would do. I get it, lesson learned, always double check, but still a shady practice and answer for customer service to say, welp, you signed it. I'll never use this company again.

    I booked a 15 passenger van through Expedia…read more We called AVR rental when we arrived at the airport and they sent someone to pick us up promptly. It took us over 2 hours to rent the van because: First : they tried to up charge us for add-on's making our $500 rental price increase to over $1,000. I kept telling the woman I only wanted what I paid for through Expedia- then she tried selling me insurance after I told her I had already purchased it thru Expedia- she was adamant that the insurance I purchased thru them wouldn't cover the van I reserved. I contacted Expedia on the spot and they assured me their insurance would cover the vehicle I reserved . She told me to tell them I wanted a refund from them for the insurance because I was going to use mine - but to purchase hers - I told her I wasn't going to do that- I would keep what I bought through Expedia. Second: Then she tried to change my van from a 15 passenger to a 10 passenger with an additional charge of $250. I told her I didn't not want the 10 passenger van. So then she said she would change the van for only $100 extra- I don't know why she wanted me to get the 10 passenger van so badly- she said because I only had 10 people with me but I told her we rented the bigger van so we would have more room for us since we had 2 car seats that take up space. After being there for over 2 hours she took us to our van- she said if the van was returned dirty they charge a cleaning fee of $150- I looked inside and saw the van was dirty and had stains- I asked her if they charge a cleaning fee why was the van dirty? She said we could wait for them to wipe it down. We were so tired we said no thanks - we just wanted to get to our room. I took photos and the inside and outside of the van for documentation. The van itself was ok- you could tell it was used - and it hadn't been cleaned but I mean it was a rental and it got us around. When we returned the van they said we broke the bumper. I honestly didn't see this when I rented it because it was dark and raining/snowing when we got the van. But luckily I went through my pictures I took before I drove off with the van and you can clearly see it was already broken before we rented it. The employee said to send him the photo of it broken and the photo would have a time stamp. I sent the photo and he agreed that we did not break it. I won't rent from them again- it was just a huge pain. And a note to anyone who rents from them- or any rental place- Take photos of the inside and outside of the vehicle- document everything that's broken- scratched - dirty. And be aware of the up charges that are not needed.

I reserved a van online (through CarRentals.com) and was sent all the necessary details. On arrival, we called the number in the email and were picked up from our terminal about 20 minutes later. When we arrived to the rental office, we got our vehicle, and got to be on our way pretty quickly. The credit card system was down, but they took our information and ran the deposit later that day so we didn't have to wait around (I had prepaid online). Overall the vehicle (Dodge Caravan) was decent, aside from a little wear and tear (the back AC vents had duct tape on them and the AC fan bearings were going out so it sporadically made weird sounds from the front end). It wasn't the professional rental place like Enterprise, but it got the job done quick and painless so it worked for us!

    Surprisingly great experience. I generally hate renting cars - why take the risk and deal with the…read morehassle when there's Uber/Lyft everywhere. But for this trip, I had some long drives that would have been cost prohibitive with rideshare, so I bit the bullet. I was most happy with the check-in process. I was able to do most of it online, so the pick-up at airport was fast and easy. Most importantly, they didn't try to scare me into buying unnecessary insurance or TollPass transponders. The rep showed me how to pay my tolls by plate online, and never mentioned any extras. Thank you! I had selected the premium car category, and I had the choice between an Audi S5, Alfa Romeo Giulia, and Hyundai Genesis. I picked the Audi and it was clean, well equipped , and in good condition. Apple CarPlay worked great, which basically covers everything these days - maps, radio, bluetooth calling, etc. Drop off was just as fast, and the rental car area is a short tram ride away from the Terminals. Overall easy peasy and price was competitive. I'd rent from them again, which I can't say about most of my car rental experiences.

    This billing issue started in December 2025. I rented from Enterprise at O'Hare Airport, paid in…read morefull, and received a receipt showing no balance due. Even so, I was later billed over $600, had to dispute it, and the charge was eventually refunded. After that, I was contacted again about the same balance, saw another charge appear, and even received a letter saying I needed to pay or risk being banned from renting with Enterprise. Escalations then told me they could not see the charge and said I should dispute it with my bank. Very stressful and disappointing experience.
