I rented a vehicle and I got their gas package and I drove to Mt. Carroll and it was approximately 450 miles round trip. When I booked the car I was not properly explained their gas package. I thought they would top it off and and charge me $3.99 a gallon for what the amount was needed to fill the tank. This was mine and my husband's understanding of the explanation we got. Instead we charged $65 for a full tank of gas. I called and spoke to Steve on the phone and he said I should have only put in the amount of gas needed to get back. I was driving over 225 miles back to Chicago from a rural area and had no choice for my safety to fill the tank. So I returned it with a 3/4's tank and the guy Steve said he has no way of telling how much gas is in the vehicle. Look at the gas gauge. It's not rocket science!!! It's a 3/4's of a tank. I was being nice by asking for him to return half of it and he said they would not. This is insane and unacceptable to me. They lost a customer. I will never ever rent a car from them again. read more

. I rented the vehicle through Priceline, which selected ACE Rent A Car for my rental. I had prepaid for a 10-day rental. Unfortunately, I experienced several problems during the rental. On the first day I picked up the vehicle, I noticed that the steering was pulling to the left. I returned the vehicle and was given a different car. Two days later, I came out of my hotel parking lot on my way to pick up my son from the airport and discovered that the front left tire was completely flat. I contacted ACE and was told that I was responsible for changing the tire and paying for its replacement. I was very surprised because I had never been informed that I would be responsible for this. I have my own full-coverage insurance and roadside assistance, which is why I declined the additional coverage offered by ACE. However, I was not aware that declining ACE's roadside assistance would mean that I would also be responsible for replacing a damaged rental tire. I contacted my own roadside assistance, and they came out and replaced the flat tire with the small temporary spare that was provided with the vehicle. I was uncomfortable driving on the temporary spare, especially while trying to find a replacement tire. Because this was also the second vehicle I had experienced problems with, I spoke with the manager and decided to return the vehicle rather than continue the rental. After returning the vehicle, I contacted both Priceline and ACE several times to ask about receiving a refund for the seven unused days of my prepaid rental. I was told that the rental was non-refundable. I understand that prepaid rentals may have certain terms and conditions, but given the circumstances and the problems I experienced with both vehicles, I had hoped that a refund for the unused portion of the rental could be considered as a courtesy. Later, I received a text regarding a $650 charge for a replacement tire. This was unexpected, as I had never been told that I would be responsible for such a I was not provided with anything that clearly explained to me that I would be responsible for a $650 tire replacement I have rented vehicles from other rental companies and have never encountered a situation like this, so I was genuinely surprised by the way this was handled. My concern was also the safety of driving on a small temporary spare while trying to locate a replacement tire. Instead of addressing a customer service issue I was just told it's their policy that I pay for all of this. I have since seen two different invoices for the tire one is for $650 and the other is for $320. They are insisting it costs $650 to replace one tire on a Chevy equinox. I just left ACE in Ohare airport outside Chicago, extending a rental car because my personal vehicle not ready. I didn't have the experience of others i see here. If I could give less than 0 stars I would. An absolute scam and they will take as much money from you as they can. My friends and I visited Denver and needed a car rental. One person in my party used Priceline and found a great deal for a large car for several days for $336. Great, booked. We went to pick up the car and she was charged $787 -- a 134% price increase. Was it explained why there was an additional $451 on top of what was posted online and reserved for? Nope. The biggest culprit was insurance as apparently my friend's full coverage regular car insurance somehow wasn't enough. Who would've thought that car insurance isn't adequate car insurance for Ace! It was $200 alone because, according to the first person we chatted with via Ace's customer service chat bot, it wasn't enough insurance despite being typical car insurance that we've never had problems with before, ever. The other $251? Random additional hidden fees also not discussed! We followed up via email and they had zero sympathy, saying that there was nothing they could do because no matter the actions of their employee on the ground, we had paid it. "Customer service" must mean something different to Ace. Look, I get it, we signed and paid. But had it been explained, we absolutely would've walked right out there. An extra $451 isn't nothing, and I doubt it makes or breaks Ace as a company. Advice if you're considering renting from Ace: DO NOT DO IT. Do not be tempted by any lower prices. Go with another company. Save the extra $451. And if anyone from Ace reads this and feels the need to respond: you've made it clear that you have no interest in customer satisfaction or experience so unless you have something else to discuss, unless you intend to do more than brush us off with a simple "oh well, we have your money and that's that," don't bother. read more

Called their customer service and they confirmed I could use a credit card for the deposit and a debit card for the rental payment. SIMON T at the front counter refused to help me and called me a liar when I relayed what their customer service said on the phone to me. I called customer service, who confirmed what they said and called the front desk and they still refused to help me. They were so rude I couldn't believe it. Actually combative and dismissive of me as I tried to explain the situation. AVOID SIMON T if you rent here. read more

This company will not accept that private personal umbrella liability insurance covers a person while driving a rental car. They would not let me rent the car unless I purchased their expensive policies "because it's the law". Well, it's not! I was in a hurry to make a meeting so I had to comply. When I asked for a refund when I dropped off the car, they said because I initialed the contract, I had had agreed to their terms. The manager had such a smug attitude and obviously these employees are probably getting a bonus for every policy they bully people into purchasing. Do not rent from Ace at O'Hare. ( I have used Ace before in Florida and California and did not have this issue.) read more

Okay... I took a flyer on a "Mystery" ACE CAR RENTAL after seeing their amazing prices. Here's my experience: SHOUT OUT TO SHERMAN - HE WAS TERRIFIC! The first and only surprise was that there is a $14 per day Toll Road charge added to the AMAZING prices... please note that Chicago has tons of Open toll roads around this airport & you almost can't escape them. The only thing I would have appreciated is if I'd been told NOT TO GO IN ANY EZ PASS LANE - this is NOT an EZ PASS. It also doesn't include the INTERSTATE Highways. I made the misassumption and had a few hairy moments stuck in EZ PASS perdition. Not fun. But soon over and everything else went smoothly. Ace's prices are still far better than any other car rental service even with the Toll Charges. The Altima I was given was almost brand new - GREAT CAR! The return at the end was so simple. A really good reputable car rental company - just don't think it comes with an EZ PASS! read more

What a scam! They will overbook and take your money. No courtesy call or ANYTHING to let you know it's not available. I called the next day to try to figure something out. This company needs to be closed. The hidden fees, failure to honor their duty contract, no shuttle as advertised is outrageous. Consider yourselves warned! Any reduced rate you may think you will get will be quickly eaten up by tolls, UBER to get to the airport b/c the shuttle did not arrive in time, double and even triple fees. The worst part is that they will find any excuse to add the fees and the response is that your only recourse is to sue them for breach of contract. They know it's just not worth it for $100. Use a reputable car rental agency and steer clear of these shysters. read more

Ace Rent a car are thieves, I was in Las Vegas May 24th through 29th visiting a sick relative I paid for my rental car in advance through Hotwire, I needed to extend my stay until the 31st 2 extra days ace charged me an additional $800 for the 2day extension there were $499 in fees for 2 extra days never again will I ever use Ace Rent a car. The car I received was a joke there was scratches throughout the car and two of the rims. The bummer looked like someone bumped into something because it wasn't aligned. I took pictures and made sure that they were documented I would have asked for a different car but figured they didn't have anything else since why would they give anyone this car knowing what is going on with it. I was about 1.5 hours away and it started to rain and the driver wiper came off I called and asked what I should do and the lady told me I could bring it back, but that wasn't going to be very convenient for me. The lady told me I shouldn't have took the car if I wasn't happy with it. I felt like that was very rude to say something like that to a customer ( they shouldn't of given me a car in the condition it was in if they are a professional establishment ) read more

Good service and handled a last minute change fairly and easily. Also didn't nail me with ridiculous charges for a missed toll.

I'll start by saying the facility is not at the airport, it's an 8 minute drive to the pickup/drop off . There is a shuttle to take you back and forth and it runs frequently. However , this location is a journey to get to from landing, and when they take you back the drop off is at this desolate location so you have to journey through to your terminal. Most rental shuttle services will drop you to your terminal . The prices are low which is of course a plus , it attracted me for this particular trip because we flew from California to Chicago for a funeral 4 days before Christmas. It was an expensive time to travel and I was distraught so I didn't do as much research as I normally would. Upon pickup I dealt with a pretty vile agent named Sherman, so rude. To be fair, almost everyone in Chicago is rude so I guess he's just being typical. I was also not in the best mood considering the circumstances to which I was there . The agent who did the intake was a female and pleasant . I read the reviews after pickup and before drop off and realized 1. I need to always take time to do more research. 2. This is the Spirit Airline of rental companies. I would not recommend at the O'Hare location. Just rent something at the airport for more convenience read more

They are basically licensed scammers with hidden (insurance $30/day) fees and won't provide you with the car you booked! I had a Kona booked, called and confirmed the car was there. I came for the navy graduation for my nice. And the guy that helped me rent the car for 1 day was nice. However when I came to return the car there was a guy that wanted to charge $250.00 because he was saying that there was excessive dog hair. I told them and the guy saw that I came with my service animal and didn't mention that. Also that there was not excessive hair. And I recorded and took pictures and told him I was going to make a review exposing him trying to rip me off. And he didn't say anything then. It is NOT a good place to rent I found out today there are better places some where else. To all out there he was asking for my documentation of my service animal something that it is illegal! So mad and disgusting disrespectful place. I took pictures and video with the time of returning the car. So I have proof. By the way the manager was no where to be found! read more

Ace Rent A Car - My proof there was NOT Excessive HAIR! - Car Rental Near Me - Schiller Park, Illinois

It's a scam. This company uses deceptive business practices to make you pay more. They advertise a low daily rate, but don't disclose extra fees. I was bullied by Simon into buying their insurance policy which amounted to more than $50 PER day. The reason ACE gave is that local residents are required to show proof of insurance. That was NEVER indicated at booking or in the multiple reminder texts I received from them. I was not able to show proof that they deemed adequate, even though I was covered both by my credit card and by my personal auto insurance. I have rented many cars locally and in other states and never encountered this before. It's completely intentional to recoup costs from the low daily rates they advertise. I called ACE before leaving on my trip and they advised me that I would have to go to handle it at the rental office. I did that and told the clerk that I felt tricked into buying the insurance and the right thing to do would be to give a refund, and the first thing he said was "oh that guy never sells" meaning that the guy who rented it to me in the first place never sells the insurance. Deceptive and coercive business--avoid at all costs. The low price is not worth the headache and extra cost. The Spirit airlines of rental cars. More like ACE Rent à la CARte. read more

Rented a car through my credit card with Ace Rent a Car. Went to pick up the car and was told I had to have my own personal car insurance. Mind you - I recently sold my car so I don't have my own personal car insurance (why would I?). When I went to pick up the car it says in their policies it states online you need personal car insurance. I didn't book through them. I booked through a credit card company. I rent cars frequently for work and personal travel. Of the 5-6 different companies I have used, never once have I been asked to get my own personal insurance. If I had a car, I wouldn't be renting with them for personal reasons. Not only did they charge me no refund, but were extremely rude and disinterested in me as the customer with their response. They left me stranded at the airport with no car, and I had to go back to the main airport and get a rental car from a competitor (who gave me a car right on the spot no questions). They need to be extremely clear with their requirements. When I checked the booking, it looked like it was in fine print about the personal insurance (I could barely read it) on the credit card site. I am asking the company to please be much clearer next time. Make it a box you select when booking through you on the site acknowledging personal insurance (or make the consumer provide the policy number to confirm). Could have saved a big mess. Also if you google the company, nothing but bad reviews. Backs up my review 100%. read more

Sherman gave outstanding service!!! He's very knowledgable, he's very helpful and understanding because I don't know much about car rentals.

This Ace claims they are a rental car facility that exists at the ORD Airport Rental center. They are in fact not at the Airport Rental Center but a few miles down the road from it. After bringing back the rental, the manager tried to claim that I had a scratch in the car that was not there when picked up. When I asked him to show me, I could see he was pointing at some dust/dirt on the bumper. I then proceeded to wipe it away to show him it was exactly that. At that point he asked me for my paper copy of the exit forms I signed when taking the car. I told him that I did not sign any because I was not presented any. I believe he was trying to hold me accountable in some way by proving that I signed the forms agreeing to certain conditions. Since the employees are so inept at doing their jobs, even if the vehicle was damaged, he could not hold me accountable. When I called back another day to straighten these issues out, I found out that he has barred me from renting from that ACE ever again. Never told me in person, never sent a letter, never received a phone call. I guess this was his childish way of trying to get at me despite lying about damage. I also have pictures of before and after as proof. In the end, it is just as well because this place is shady from the word go. Even for people looking for a good deal, I promise, it is not worth it. read more

Beware. During the initial inspection, they focus on small cosmetic scratches in their quick inspection hand-off and this is a distraction from the trap you will eventually find yourself in later. Be ready to photo and video the car and request to do so outside of their dark garage. And even if you do, they have a strategy to press forward with false damages. This occurred a day after they required me to return the vehicle for an extension to process a new contract. It's vague what to expect if returning after your due date, as the contract language is not clear, saying "rates are subject to change" if doing so. So you don't quite know if you can expect a day charge or more and their call center won't tell you. When you ask for 24 hour grace beyond your contract end, ACE will tell you they will turn it over to security, and seek to REPOSSESS the vehicle. One can make an argument this is business, but it turned my stomach to hear the schadenfreude tone about repossession when the vehicle is clearly not abandoned. It turned out they didn't even need the vehicle and just turned it back around to me, happy to charge me a higher rate for a new 1 day contract and no cleaning. Last, the shuttle isn't worth your time. What you don't know when you book is the phone number to call for a shuttle (via booking.com) doesn't connect with anybody and you have to find the working number on your own. And the area you wait for their shuttle is under a leaky overhead ramp, so you get exposed to weather, watching as everybody else gets their rentals through brand-name rental agencies. Please avoid. The time and convenience alone is not worth it, and you may also face a damage claim scam. read more

I had a great experience with my rental from this location. I received explicit instructions on where to go to be picked up to be taken to the rental office that is offsite of the airport. The shuttle that picks you up is labeled clearly and the driver was very friendly. When I received the car, it was clean and practically brand new! It still had the "new car" smell! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE!!! They will scam you. From the start, I was asked if I wanted the $15 a day toll. I said no thank you I would not be going through that many tolls in a day. My 4 grandkids, daughter and I go to the van, we were there for my other grandsons graduation from the Navy. As we went around the van, it was disgustingly dirty bird crap all over it. I mentioned it to the lady there she said oh it's okay it's supposed to rain shortly. Are you flipping kidding me!! Then the carpet in the back was torn out of the molding. Then we barely leave and the air pressure light comes on, seriously I can't turn around I have to pick up tickets for graduation before the base closes. That and I am not sure how long it takes to get there. Now they charged my account 3 times for tolls. $82.68 total. I hsd to put a stop on my card so they would stop charging me. Then another $3 they were trying to charge again for tolls. Then they give me a a refund but take out another $23. Now they are saying it was my fault that the tire lost air they said they inspect the cars which they do not!! Said they found a nail. They are liars and deceitful. I told they guy at the counter about the tire he said that's okay we will take care if it. LIES! Over $500 for one tire. RIDICULOUS!! Do not go here. I just had the best experience ever renting from Ace Rental at O'Hare airport in Chicago. (And I'd done a lot of car rentals traveling for my job.) It's at an offsite location requiring airport train transit and a shuttle. It was so worth it!! The shuttle drivers there and back were thoughtful and kind, along with providing a smooth drive. The person at the desk who helped me was also kind and thoughtful. She made my checking in very easy. Told me they'd just gotten a group of new cars and I would be the first driver of mine. I was delighted to drive a snazzy looking Hyundai Elantra. Amazing for the economy price!
