This place is running like a Mafia business, Shaking down drivers for money to get a rental, leasing broken and filthy cars,Rude and inapreciative. Force drivers to accept collision waiver to make commission out of selling it to you, forcing drivers to accept filthy and unsafe cars or no lease. Forcing drivers to fix their cars at a shop of their choosing and no compensation for your lost time, or they will take the car away and ban you from renting at this location. This place is being destroyed be a bunch of people with no knowledge of the issues you have to go through on daily basis. For the amount of money the driver pays for the rental $392-460 courtesy and respect Clean maintained cars should be included Bad luck for hertz to have low quality employees running this place out of business: 2170 north Manheim Rd. Des plaines,il is a dump.

Gave me a car with a faulty gas tank. The tank was almost empty when I received it. When I tried to stop at a gas station, the tank was stuck closed. I pulled the lever, played with anything that could possibly help to open the car, but to no avail. There is damage all along the gas tank, showing that other drivers before me have had to forcibly open the gas tank with something metal. That was bad enough, but what was worse was the fact that Hertz is basically impossible to get in touch with and they will not help you once you're stuck. They claim you need to pay them to come retrieve their faulty vehicles. State Farm, who was the company that set up the rental, was just as unhelpful with resolving this issue. My local agent did everything he could, but State Farm claims department just stood by the lies told by Hertz Rentals, claiming the car was in perfect working order and it was my responsibility to get their broken down car back to them. These shenanigans interfered with my work and an interview I had scheduled. At this point, they owe me for lost wages and lost work opportunities. It's disgusting that this is allowed. Someone could be hurt or killed getting into these death trap vehicles. The one I received ran loudly, had shredded windshield wipers, tons of body damage, and worst of all the locked down gas tank.

Go to Hertz location on Mannheim Rd, Des Plaines Alecea gives you a great service. She has been working there long time. I worked with her while i had rental. She was very fast on her job even there were 30-40 people each hour. She does uber job, she does rental job and she does mechanic job, check car tire pressure, drive car if any problem and then give it to customer. She teach me a lot about the car when i rented and she is manager. Sorry i forgot to ask their name but She got a good co-worker lady with glasses and good black guy as co worker who has a long hair. They help driver even after 5:00 pm, EVEN THEY DONT GET PAID FOR. Once they were in office till 6:30pm till last driver job done and driver got the car and left. Hard to find people to help 1.5 hour in these days. Alecea is a great person, if you have any concern, just go to her. Thank you again Alecea, Girl with glasses and guy with long hair.

I read MANY, MANY reviews for all the major (and some minor) rental car companies at O'Hare. They…read morewere all universally bad with horror stories that made my blood curdle. I finally made my pick based solely on price. After all, what difference could it make if they were all horrible? I might as well get the best rate, and Advantage had it. I armed myself with other customer warnings about what to look for and hoped for the best. What I found was not what I was expecting. Firstly, there is only one shuttle bus for all the rental car companies and it takes you directly to the rental car center. It was waiting at the curb when we walked out of the terminal. No wait at all! Unlike a lot of the negative reviews posted, the bus driver was more than happy to help us load our luggage onto the bus. When we got there at 7:00pm on a Sat. we found NO LINE at the Advantage counter. Only one customer who was just finishing up, and we were next. There was no particular hard sell to try to get us to buy extra features like the toll package, extra insurance, and the full tank payment allowing you to return the car on Empty. My research had shown that they were all unnecessary for us, so when they were offered we declined them and that was that. We knew to avoid the Toll Roads and always found alternate routes to avoid the transponder charges. The car we had reserved was no longer available, and Sheree the counter clerk nicely offered us an upgraded car for a little more money. When we declined she gave it to us anyway for no extra charge as she could see we had a lot of luggage and she was worried the smaller cars that were available might not have enough space for it all. When we got to the pickup area at first we were confused as to where the car was located in the garage. When Crystal, who worked in the office there, pointed it out to us we were concerned that it was a long way to walk with all our luggage. She ran and got us a cart and after we loaded it up she even helped us push it over to the car. Since she was by our car she made one more visual inspection before we left, and holding the inspection sheet in her hand, she noted a rip on the passenger seat that hadn't been noted before. We thanked her. Before we said goodbye she also gave us specific directions as to which way to go to get to our hotel once we got out to the street. She was very kind and helpful. The car itself was great... clean & in good running order the entire 11 days we used it. When we returned to the car rental center we found the drop off area for Advantage easily. We were greeted by a very nice gentleman who told us we were free to go, but when he saw all our luggage he got us a cart and even helped us wheel it all the way out to the waiting shuttle buses on the second level. He then helped us find the right bus for our airline's terminal. I would use Advantage again without hesitation. I'm not sure what happened to all the others who had horror stories to tell, and I'm not saying their stories are untrue. I'm sorry for their misadventures, but we had a great experience! In my opinion if you arm yourself with knowledge about the places YOU can be taken advantage of, you can and should take advantage of Advantage.

This company should be out of business. I believe it sets up everyone when possible. I booked a car at Priceline with $141, My flight was deyed so I was delayed around one hour by the time I was at the counter. I was told the car I booked not available anymore and I need to pay $400 for a similar replacement. People in front of me, during my converstaion with the staff, and people came after me, NO ONE got what they booked, everyone was very upset. The staff attitude were very bad, badically "take it or leave it!" From what i experienced and observed, I believe it was NOT acidental but a well planed setup, So NEVER EVER use Advantage!!!!!!

However, when I last rented a car, the company (not Enterprise) called a couple days before my rental period to tell me they wouldn't have the minivan I had reserved. Since the car type was non-negotiable due to the number of folks who'd be in the car, I have been wary to use that other agency since. When I called Enterprise and asked if my car type would be guaranteed, they said it would be no problem and they kept their word. The car was in good condition, clean, and comfortable to drive and ride in. Pickup was easy and fast as well. As of June 2026, they put a deposit of $300 on your card for the rental. This location does the "enterprise picks you up" thing, and that is good within a two mile radius. I'll need to keep that in mind for next time.

I returned the car a day early, and ended up getting charged over $1,900. They lied and did not return any money and would not provide me with a receipt either. Be careful of this location, they also do not check the cars before they rent them out. I found an open beer bottle in the back seat of my rental upon picking up the car. Really shady people working here who do not have your best interest in mind. I almost feel like they did it on purpose, crooked people at this location. Do your research, and choose elsewhere.

Since the Alamo counter was closed, we were redirected to the National counter where the staff was incredibly friendly. We were even given an additional discount as the rates were much better for the July 4th weekend, and we had booked our trip 1 or 2 months ago when the rates were high. That was a great way to start a trip. Overall the vehicle was great and fun to drive especially being new it had the assisted driving (ADAS) which made the long drive relaxing. There was a small windshield crack (under an quarter of an inch barely visible), and while their policy only requires reporting damage over two inches from prior experiences, I made them note it on the record before I took the vehicle from the lot just to be on the safe side. Needed a car to rent for twelve days for my wife and me during our 10 day upper Midwest road trip…read more Decided to spurge a bit to get a nicer car, and surprisingly found the Hertz at O'Hare to have the best price for an airport rental of a luxury mid-size SUV (Volvo XC60 or comparable) at $572.32. I booked directly with them and there was no mention of additional charges collected at time of rental, just that it had to be prepaid and was non-refundable. We had the last Delta flight from LAX to ORD so my wife, her mom, and I got into Chicago around midnight. The Airport Transit System (train) will take you to all the terminals and multi-modal facility where all the rental car agencies are. Terminal 5 is the last stop before it, and the train cars were pretty full by the time it came to us, even this late. We had to abandon our luggage cart, and hand-wheel our luggage, finding space. I've been a member of the Hertz Gold program for a while, back to my corporate days, and knew to skip the rental counter and go directly to the garage to see my name in lights. It didn't matter since, the main rental counters were all closed this late at night, so everyone had to go to the garage. Sure enough, my name was listed, but instead of showing where I could pick up my car, it said to see the counter attendant. There was only one person there, and there was a line. Once it was my turn, it turned out the car wasn't ready for us. I think they don't want to have the XC60 for others to choose, so they had to get it 'from the back'. It didn't take very long to do that, and everyone was perfectly civil about it. However, they hadn't checked me out, so when we got to the gate to leave, we had to do the checkout process with the attendant (she was not happy since someone before hadn't their job). We went through a car scanner which recorded the outside condition of the car. As for the trip, I was really happy with the car. It had some of the most comfortable car seats I've ever used (fully adjustable for both upfront seats, with lumbar support) and the back seats were heated. The power moon roof was so large, though we couldn't use it much open since it was hot and sunny during our trip. It also surprisingly didn't have wireless Apple Play, so had to find a USB-C cable, and then it worked fine with Navigation and Spotify. It was a really good trip, and the SUV had a lot to do with that. Bringing the car back, once you got close to O'Hare, it was important to follow the signs for rental car return, vs following the directions on Google Maps. We passed through a similar car scanner when we entered the lot. We didn't have to wait for anyone to check us out, just leaving the keys on the dash. For once, we didn't forget anything in the car. We got an itemized bill by email in a couple of hours. We took the train back to Terminal 5. A couple of days later, we got another email saying that the car had been returned with no damage. However, they also charged the additional money as well, so I opened up an incident to explain the charge. We'll see where that goes. Stats: 10 states visited (IL, WI, IA, MO, KY, TN, AR, MS, OH, IN), missing two of the Mississippi River States (MN, LA). 7 gas stations visited on trip, $294.20 spent, 72 gallons used, 2,133 miles driven.
