I booked this at this car rental solely based on price. I booked a red eye flight and arrived at 5a.m. Dollar opens at 6a.m. it is conveniently located at the Ohare airport with all the car rentals. You will need to take the sky train and it is past terminal 5. Once you get off is at the lower level. What is confusing is they have a booth in the parking lot and at the Dollar counter inside the building where all the other rental agencies are. Don't had to the booth. It's a shell of nothing. Just go to the counter. Dollar shares with Thrifty Car rental. The agent works with both companies. I was the first in line some my flight was early. The staff were there 15 minutes before 6a.m. Yet at 6a.m. they didn't open. Strange. The guy that help check is in did the bare minimum. Did not explain a thing. The nice thing was he was not pushy about upsetting anything. He just wanted to get it over with. We were the only ones in line. Why the 4 stars? The price and we got an upgrade to a midsize car that was in great shape. It was a Toyota corolla so I'm not so sure it was mid size but it was fine. read more

I received amazing service from start to finish from Laquantis. He greeted us with a smile. He went over the car choices for the rental selected. He gave the two customers before us the same time and attention but was still efficient. We had a slight hiccup after selecting the first vehicle and needed to swap it. The gate attendant and the staff that checks the car in ran into an issue. We went back to Laquantis and advised we needed something roomier and with powered seats instead of manual seats. Here's a FAQ the inside staff knows the year, make and model but to be fair they're not inside the vehicles that are on the lock. The fleet is maintained by the outdoor staff. You can easily go take a look and walk back in and get assistance. Thrifty and dollar are on level one with customer service. I appreciate him level setting our expectations. He also told us he can make "the ask". It allowed him to under promise and over deliver. I appreciate great customer service. Mrs & Mr Love. read more

I understand that customers can get frustrated, but it's only fair to recognize the hard work and dedication of the entire team. I have a long-term rental (over 90 days) and, while I originally expected a company car, I was immediately welcomed by the staff's friendly service. Although my first vehicle wasn't a great fit for me, I returned two weeks later to inquire about an exchange, and the manager, Lauren, was more than accommodating. She was incredibly kind, cheerful, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a positive experience. Despite some minor hiccups with the computer system (which were out of their control), we left with a new Buick and were very pleased with the switch. Angel was also very helpful, ready for us as soon as we arrived, and it was clear there was excellent communication among the team. Their commitment to making the process smooth and satisfying deserves recognition. I'm truly impressed with the level of care and service they provided. read more

just landed coming from west palm fl, front lady desk was very rude and unhelpful, told us there weren't no suvs after we made a reservation for one, later on gave us an suv we show up to the spot and there's no car, we waited about 15 20 mins before we received a different car from the helpful men that were working. if she was helpful and lost the passive aggressive behavior this would've been a different and better experience. read more

I would absolutely never ever ever use this beware of fraud if you want to be overcharged by random fees that were not in the original agreement, I was charging additional $531 over for having the car an additional two hours past the time when initially I called to extend my time, they said it didn't matter as long as I brought it within the day now I can't even dispute it through my bank. Do NOT rent from this company. They have very fishy business practices. The rental agreement I had with the booking agency didn't indicate that taxes were not included, only indicated insurance was extra. Then when I went to get the car they claimed taxes were not included. Think about it, TAXES are not included in booking and there was no indication of so. It is illegal but I don't know how to pursue the case. They conveniently blame the booking agency Kl*** which seems to be an offshore business of a big reservation company, while it is still their responsibility to ensure rental agreement made on behalf of them is legal. So I was hijacked already paying an amount to the booking agency only being told to pay them taxes. Obviously there is no room to not agree to pay yet another 60% of the cost. Also the line was 2 hours! read more

I have had bad experiences and been scammed many times by people with an Indian-English speaking accent. I am not a racist because English is my 2nd language as well. Sadly, they represent their ethnic people in the wrong way. I tried to rent a car for $66 /day, but they want to charge me an additional refundable $1000 for deposit. US Bank alerted me that this is a fraudulent transaction. Thank God, I disagreed with them. I believe they will find a way to deduct money once $1000 gets in their pocket. Watch out for this Etnic Scammer!! read more

Long line, severely understaffed (there was only 1 person working both Dollar and Thrifty, and took like 30min to get through 3 people in front of me). No one was at the quick pickup line in the garage as advertised. Tons of hidden charges and conversations that imply you need to get a certain insurance and then you end up paying more than double the advertised amount. I emailed them about selling me insurance by implying it was required and their response was.... "you signed the agreement, sorry." Stay away at all costs... scammy behavior. If you have money and time to burn, though, maybe you can come here. I got a brand new Chevy Malibu that was nice and clean. Minus me getting a full tank of prepaid gas and tolls (total $380), it cost me $270 for 2 days, originally advertised as $170. read more

I understand that they cannot control how long of a line they have to check-in but after waiting on the line for an hour the person behind the counter that was supposed to help us had the biggest attitude, lied and was just outright disrespectful (most likely because everyone is giving him a hard time). The car we reserved was not available. We were told to go sit and wait and he will come get us in 30/45 minutes unless we wanted to upgrade to a 7 passenger vehicle for $44 more dollars a day. I first declined but then decided to do it because I didn't want to wait. So he says we have a Nissan Murano and I said that isn't a 7 passenger vehicle - that's what we reserved so it should not be be $44 more per day. To which we had some back and forth banter of him saying I never said a 7 passenger vehicle blah, blah, blah. I was so aggravated and just wanted to get my vacation started so I said fine I'll take it but I am going to write a letter to Dollar rent a car and report you and asked for his name and ID number. He said No. I said can I speak with someone above you. He said No. So I took his picture and told him I will use his photo in order to report him. To which he said he is going to refuse to rent me a car and the proceeded to THROW my drivers license and credit card at me. I walked over to Alamo (next counter over) and got a the same class car for less. Bottom line Dollar rent a car is known for its long lines but I have never experienced such a rude worker in the service business. Maybe he needed a break, maybe he woke up today with a goal of trying to mess with people and cause them aggravation. I'll never know but I hope that his company she's him and addressed his behavior. read more

Do NOT rent from Dollar Car Rental. I Pre booked a compact SUV months in advance and when we arrived to pick up our car, we were told that the car was in the process of being cleaned. After waiting an hour, I went to the front desk to get an update. I was told that the car was still being cleaned and that it would take another 1-2 hours. However, when I questioned why the car wasn't already prepared, the employee replied, "do you want your car or not?" as if my right to rent a vehicle was based on my behavior. He threatened to cancel the contract because "it was not fully paid for." Frustrated by their customer service, or the lack thereof, I asked for the keys to the vehicle that I had already paid a deposit for. After the fourth time asking for the keys, the gentleman disrespectfully threw a pamphlet at me and threateningly approached me. I should have recognized the lack of professionalism when I first approached the front desk. The lady behind the counter was cutting her nails with a pair of scissors and the employee with the short temper playing on his phone. If I could, I would rate my experience here a 0/5, unfortunately I have to give them a generous rating of 1/5. Please save yourself the trouble and use another company. read more

For how big the ORD airport is, I was surprised at how seamless the car rental experience was. There wasn't much of a crowd. I'd booked a car through my company's 3rd party system. If there were a zero star rating (or better yet, NEGATIVE five stars) Dollar/Thrifty Rental Cars at ORD would get the lowest rating possible. There are at least 15 rental car agencies in the rental car center at ORD with a total of approximately 150 customers in line or waiting. At least ONE HUNDRED (yes, 100) people are waiting in line for Dollar with only three agents serving them. If you value your time don't waste it with these people! (I'm at the back of the line here. AVOID! This place is a huge scam and no one will help you. We were charged an additional $150 more than our booking said it would be. When we called to find out why, they said it was because we agreed to a bunch of extra stuff... um, no we did not. They'll also say you saw the receipt and signed off on it. No, you don't. You sign on a tiny screen agreeing to the rental but you see none of the charges and are told you'll see them at the end. When we left the lot, the hood was unlocked! This was incredibly dangerous! I was driving down the highway and noticed the hood was shaking. We pulled over to find out it was holding on for dear life. This could've been really bad. Also on our way to drop the car off, the check engine light turned on. We tried to tell the person who was checking cars in but they just dismissed us. I hope someone actually looked at that car. We have called Dollar on numerous occasions now to find out why we were charged so much more than our reservation and no one has been helpful or called us back. I think we're just going to dispute the charge with our credit card at this point because it is ridiculous. We aren't asking for our whole reservation to be refunded, just the $150 extra they decided to charge. read more

I reserved a compact SUV from Dollar Car Rental in Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport from Priceline. I got a small SUV - Kia Soul with 53k miles on it. I booked a reservation through Priceline for $259. Arrived to pick up the car, and was told the cost was $759 - $500 more than what I was told it would cost. I asked the man at the counter what the additional charges were for, and he told me they were the "deposit and hold", but refused to break down what the additional charges were specifically. He told us we could cancel the reservation and reserve a car elsewhere, or pay the full amount. I asked numerous times for what the additional charges were specifically and he refused to tell me and kept walking away from us to do other things behind the desk instead of help us. Since this was on Thanksgiving morning at the airport, we had no choice but to pay the additional $500. Later I was able to look through all the paperwork he gave me after we paid and saw he charged us for a bunch of stuff we never agreed to. Thrifty refuses to refund us for those additional charges since we had signed, but we were not allowed to look over the charges before we signed anything which is really unacceptable. Absolutely terrible experience and I will never use Thrifty again. I would not recommend anyone use this company, they will scam you out of money at the counter. read more

If there were zero stars I would give them. We flew into Chicago last weekend for high-school graduation festivities. But due to Dollar rent a car weekend was ruined and they didn't give us a refund, free day or an apology! Got into O'Hara on-time. Took the shuttle to the rent a car center and the line for Dollar was super long. Stood in line for 2 hours and when we got to the counter we're told they were out of cars! (Why do they take reservations??). Then, we are assured a car is coming in. After another hour long wait we are told there is a car for us. We rush to pick up the car, maybe we can still make the luncheon. Push the starter, the car won't start!!! Look for customer service and finally find a guy, and he attempts to start the car and no luck. Again we are promised another vehicle. My family is calling I tell them to start without me. Our entire weekend is ruined. I contact customer service when I get home and they say nothing they can do. So, I issue this warning to future customers. Beware of this bootleg operation. Definitely one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Had a reservation for a car, but had a delay of my flight. Although we had paid for the car in advance, they said after 2 hours they give the car away - even though their policy says they honor for 24 hours. The person who worked their did not care at all and said they were out of all cars and to come back tomorrow. I rarely write bad reviews. It takes a special type of experience to prompt me to do so. Yikes, though. My sister and I fly in for a long weekend in Chicago, and we reserved a car through Dollar in advance. We had no issue with getting the car we reserved, so that's better than many others have reported. But... super slow service. We waited in line for at least 20 minutes and there was only one person in front of us. The guy who checked us in was just terrible. With everything he "pitched" us as an add-on, it seemed he didn't want us to hear him and we should just agree. And then he was annoyed when I asked him to repeat what he said, and then doubly annoyed when we asked questions or declined. He said that the toll road no longer take cash or credit, so we would either have to do the toll pass through him or if get a bill after with a service charge and he didn't know much it would be. We decided to take our chances, and it turned out all the toll stains have credit AND cash options. There were other things he said that felt just as dismissive or subversive, but this seems a good enough example to give you a sense for the experience you could have here. read more

This car rental company did an amazing job providing us with great rates and vehicle for the trip we planned. The process was accessible and picking up the car was convenient however the wait time at the location was a lot to getting the car which is normal for a busy location. The car was towed during the trip due to an altercation. It has been more than two weeks we have been trying to get the car back to the car rental. The DOLLAR rent a car has not been very proactive about this matter in picking the car up from the location it was towed to. For future reference, the company although maybe working towards this incident, they are not delivering faster results, they do not have a protocol I think in place for such incidents. It has been more than two weeks the car has been sitting at the lot. I am afraid that we as a customer will be charged for the days it has not been returned to them. I do not think these charges should apply to us as we have numerously tried to assist with following up and informing DOLLAR rent a car about the incident. Will we recommend renting a car from them? Yes. However, be mindful that the process of problem solving and understanding urgency is very slow with this location specifically. They do not have the correct phone number listed which leaves you completely stranded and we find ourselves in a constant cycle of getting transferred again and again. read more

Beware of car rental rip off. So I rented a car from Dollar on my last vacation. It was the most I ever paid for a rental. $700 for a week. At the desk I asked them how do I pay for my tolls? They replied there is a toll pass in the car, so drive through, and you'll be billed after. We drove through 2 tolls. Today I got a notice for my $2.30 toll plus a $15.00 administration fee times two. What!!!!This is higway robbery. When I talked to Dollar they said you could have paid 12.00 a day extra for tolls and then the toll pass would be turned on or buy your own toll pass for 60.00 from each state. Insane. So two tolls at $4.60 tolls now cost me $64.60. This is bad business practice. Also when we arrive at the Portland Maine airport there was no-one to check our car in, we had to go inside and hand in the keys. How do they determine we left the car in good shape? They blame it on cover and no help. read more

It was either Franklin Roosevelt or Nicki Minaj who said "You get what you pay for, bitch!". This Dollar reminds me of that sentiment. You'll be whisked from the terminal to a shed off-site, right under the flight path to the airport. Upon entering, the friendly and efficient representative will type in all your info and you'll sign about a dozen screens. It isn't as painful as it sounds but I could just enter most of that stuff when I reserve the car online, but they didn't ask for it. I was given a Nissan Versa which shook violently at speeds in excess of 45 mph. Additionally, it took three times to try to start it every morning. Drop off was easy and quick. But the shuttle back was a Chevy Tahoe rather than a minibus so it was a cramped ride for myself and the other passengers. I'm usually a Budget guy, where I use Fast break and other features they have to make rentals a breeze. However, Budget was almost double the cost for the same rental so I took the cheap route and got what I paid for. I will say everyone was super nice. As long as you don't expect platinum service at rusty razor blade prices, you'll enjoy Dollar rental as much as I did. read more
