I was just invited to eat dinner here by some friends on a whim so I didn't really know what to expect and Eyval did not disappoint! We started off with some drinks the Limoo Margarita, Jaam E Shirin, and the Saffron Martini. All of them were really good, the limoo margarita and the jaam e shirin were both refreshing and citrusy without being too sweet. The saffron martini was really unique and delicious as well. We started with the breads, both were delicious but the Komaj was our favorite. The turmeric and cumin add an amazing flavor to the bread and the texture is great. We had the whipped feta and the roasted carrots as well. The whipped feta was AMAZING and I loved the carrots as well they were roasted to perfection and the accompanying sauce was so tasty. We had a few bigger plates with the Kashke Bademjan and the Mushroom Kabob both of which were incredible. I have never tried a dish like the Kashke Bademjan before and would definitely recommend it if you like eggplant. It was also presented beautifully and all of the elements play together really well. The mushroom kabob was cooked really well and the sauce with lentils hit super hard it was well balanced and the textures were amazing. We also had the lamb ribs which were cooked so well the meat fell off the bone and the peppers added a nice kick. Lastly we had the Gormeh Sabzi which was also cooked incredibly well and was so flavorful. There was a tangy element in the dish which I felt was a bit strong but it was still really good. Our server was super helpful in helping us pick dishes and took great care of us. He recommended we order 1-2 dishes per person and we ended up ordering 8 between 4 of us which was certainly more than enough. We left stuffed and with leftovers! I was surprised by how big the restaurant was but it was so comfortable and well decorated without being overbearing. Would definitely recommend stopping in! read more

Eyval has some of the best Persian food I've had in the city! I started the night off with a glass of their house white, which was quite a heavy pour. It was very fruit forward and had a good balance of bitterness. We got the Barberi bread which came with a lovely garlic and olive oil spread, eggplant, koobideh, and lubia polo. Everything was bursting with flavor and had you begging for more. The dessert menu has a good selection of sweets ranging from ice cream sandwiches to dessert wines. The saffron ice cream sandwiches has the perfect amount of rose water added to it. Overall, between the speedy service and delicious food, it's easy to see why people rave about this place. I recently dined at Eyval with family and friends for my birthday. Because we were a party of 10, we were asked to commit to a pre fixe menu for $80 per person, and it was beyond worth it. I've been to other pre fixe dinners in New York, and walked away hungry, but here nearly everyone left with a little goodie bag of items. As for the food, it was my favorite Persian meal I've ever had out. My father grew up in Iran and could not stop raving about some of the dishes. The kebabs were incredible, the ghormeh sabzi was the best I've ever had (including my Mamans...), I thought a friend of mine was going to lick the bowl of borani clean. It was just all 10/10. As for the service, it was also fantastic. Two people in my party have a pretty hefty list of allergies, but the restaurant was so kind about accommodating. The GM was extremely attentive, friendly, and helpful, as was my server. They both brought was already a lovely experience to the next level. The restaurant itself is adorable, well decorated with an airy vibe and some fun Persian nods. Definitely a cool and inviting space. First impression: lamb ribs with tamarind-date glaze, walnuts, barberries. Was this tasty? Yes. A masterful blend of flavors? Yes. Could I make out the flavor of dates or walnuts? Not really. Personally, I prefer dishes where the elements maintain their individual flavors and textures, and have a dialogue. As was the case with the ($7!) saffron basmati rice side. When a menu lists the major components, I expect to see all of the ones with dominant notes. The ribs were clearly cooked with chili. Not that spicy, and the heat countered the fatty meat and rich flavor, but would have liked to know about that in advance. But this isn't why I deducted the star. What I wasn't impressed by, and will make me think twice about returning, is the almost universally cold, verging on unpleasant, attitude of the staff. These are the sort of people who's smiles are smirks. This, together with cloth napkins and designer silverware made me wonder if the management had fallen into the (increasingly rare) trap of thinking that pretentious is the same as sophisticated. (Or maybe the manager is a creep who selects similarly unpleasant staff, and makes the rest miserable.) When I got there at 6pm they were playing pleasant, atmospheric, traditional Iranian music; by the time I left that was gone and the place had become a noisy scene. read more

Had the unique opportunity to get a reservation at this very desirable dining location last night. It certainly lived up to its reputation. Each dish we had was carefully composed and executed. Beyond being simply delicious, the thoughtfulness of balance between the flavor profiles was exceptional. This could have been a master class in relationships between sweet and spicy, sour and umami. The obvious care behind every choice on the plate was so evident. Plus every dish's presentation was spot on and beautiful. Far from being pretentious, however, we felt like we had been invited into the Chefs' home for a family meal. The staff were attentive and happy, and the restaurant itself had a very upbeat buzz that was both eclectic and infectious. We had the table in front of the service kitchen, and watching them work together to create the plates was a true show. You can't go wrong on this menu. Definitely worth the effort to get into! One of the best meals I have had in NYC. Every single dish was comforting and delicious. The food made the insufferable drive from Jersey City to Williamsburg, via Manhattan on a super rainy day more than worthwhile. The restaurant was also very understanding and held our reservation for us, even while we ran over 30 mins late due to being stuck in the Manhattan traffic. I'd highly recommend going here in large(r) groups so that you are able to order as many items from the menu as possible - because Eyval absolutely nails every dish on their menu. To add to the great food, they also have a unique wine collection and some very innovative and delicious cocktails. I would definitely go back to Eyval and would also try to convince them secretly to open up something similar in Jersey City. read more

Eating here, I felt the comfort and nostalgia of the foods from my childhood, combined with the gastronomical nuances and contrasts I seek as an adult. Every dish was executed perfectly. The kashk-e-bademjan, presented deconstructed, was perfectly smokey. The koubideh was juicy and flavourful. The gheymeh bademjan featured a beautiful and unexpected splash of freshness via sour grapes. And the persian ice cream sandwich for desert gave me a "ratatouille" moment, where I was transported out of Bushwick and into my parents' kitchen to relive a hot summer night from childhood. Was initially so excited to try Eyval. We live close to their original restaurant, Sofreh, and have visited 3 times, each time leaving so stuffed and satisfied. When I heard Eyval was set to open, I made a reservation right away. The drinks are great and everything is made and flavored authentically, BUT. The portions are laughably small. Seriously. 4 of us Iranians had dinner here and all we could think of is how our ancestors would literally laugh at the portions of each dish especially when comparing to the price. The barbari was the smallest "loaf" of bread I have ever seen. The flavor of the Koobideh was to DIE FOR so so good yet just a little skewer. So odd and disappointing. :( We all left hungry. Haven't been "wow'd" by a restaurant in a long time until I came to Eyval. Vibes, food, service all top notch. This is a protein centric restaurant so be prepared to eat delicious meats and seafood. Another great thing about the restaurant is the knowledge of the servers, do let them break down the menu to you so you have an idea of what to get b/c trust you will want it all! We went for the heavy hitter proteins starting with the charred octopus that was cooked to perfection and in a yogurt based sauce. Next up we had the melt in your mouth short rib that was prepared with some kind of date or dried fruit that added a touch of sweetness to the dish. It was exquisite with the crunch of pistachios. The lamb was fall off the bone tender! And the dessert was amazing!! Definitely get the ice cream sandwich it has flavors of cardamom, rose, & pistachio. Overall 10/10! We were so excited about the new Persian restaurant opening close to us. But there were few disappointing issues. I start with pros: Drinks specially Cocktails were very delicious and price were reasonable. Food and appetizer were delicious! Cons: The portion of appetizers and small plates were ridiculously small !! For example cucumber yogurt was like 1 or max 2 table spoon for about $8 Or the crunchy rice was so so small for $14 ! We got many appetizers and small plates and we were shocked that how small are the portions with that price range! The main dish portion was reasonable still very pricy but at least it was a reasonable portion for one person. The service was overall good and friendly but Our server forgot to bring one of our main dishes and. It took so long that we ended up canceling the order. Definitely recommend making a reservation. We made a reservation for 6 pm just as they opened and it got quite popular and busy over an hour and a half. First, I highly recommend their komaj and barbari bread with their Fava Bean Borani, strained yogurt, mint dip. Their dip tasted light and refreshing with the bread. Moving on to the small plates- highly recommend the lamb ribs, Kashke Bademjan eggplant, octopus kabob (not pictured), tiger shrimp, mushroom kabob, and potato tahdig. We liked the potato tahdig so much we ordered a second one! To top off we ordered the duck breast and it was cooked to perfection! To finish we had their ice cream sandwich and pudding. My partner and I had a lovely dinner! We got to our reservation 15 mins early and were sat right away. The space is quite large with chill and casual vibes, service was friendly and swift, and the dishes were all beautiful, unique and tasty. We ordered the following: - Cucumber Mint mocktail. Refreshing and light. - Komaj & Barbari bread with Mast o Musir. Loved the freshness and smoothness of the dip. The komaj bread was soft and slightly sweet, while the barbari was more savory (our preference). - Lamb Ribs. So delicious - one of our favorite dishes of the night! The barberry and chili topping was a perfect contrast to the fatty lamb. - Kabob Koobideh. The kabob was so tender and flavorful - one of the best I've had. The tomato butter was interesting as well. - Scallop Kabob Ghalieh Mahi. Scallops were HUGE and seared perfectly. We also enjoyed the trout roe. Unfortunately the squid ink tamarind sauce was slightly too tart for our palette. - Gheymeh Bademjan. This dish was so cozy. The lamb tasted like it had been stewed for hours and the eggplant soaked up all the flavors. The rice was a perfect pair. The preserved lemon was too tart for us so we ended up scooping it off. - Saffron Ice Cream Sandwich. Tasted just like a Karachi biscuit. Overall, 100% worth a visit! The food here was pretty solid, but definitely not as good and the menu felt like it had less of a range. Subtracting stars for the service which I found to be unfriendly and overall not good -- we waited 20 minutes for our drinks, had a couple weird long gaps between courses, received no explanation of what dishes were and then finally were rudely rushed out of our table for an incoming reservation while we were still eating dessert. read more

We tried this place after having tried its much-hyped sister restaurant, Sofreh, last year. Both of us were disappointed in both restaurants and don't get the hype. We've enjoyed more "ordinary" Persian restaurants, such as Miraj Healthy Grill, on 34th Street in Manhattan, significantly more. The dishes we tried at Eyval are as follows: - Barbari Bread, nigella, sesame - recommended by our server, but it was very dry and uninspiring - Komaj Bread, turmeric, cumin - a much better option - Persian Shallot Yogurt, pickled shallot, turmeric oil - pleasant, though not significantly better than the version of labneh you'd get at your run-of-the-mill Middle Eastern place - Lamb Ribs, tamarind-date glaze, walnuts, barberries - sounded great and came highly recommended, and it wasn't bad at all but not the standout that it really should have been; the lamb was a bit dry and the flavors of the glaze weren't properly balanced - Chicken Kabob "Zereshk Polo", saffron broth, barberry rice - This is a standard dish you'd get at any Persian restaurant, and the version you'd get at that Persian restaurant would be superior, because the problem here, shockingly, was the rice; Persians generally pride themselves on how they cook rice, and they should because it's some of the best in the world, but this one wasn't soft and fluffy the way it's supposed to be - Potato Tahdig, sour plum sauce - if you haven't had tahdig before, it's a unique dish that's essentially the delectable, crusty rice that gets stuck to the bottom of the pot, and it's usually served with one of several sauces; I give Eyval props for incorporating potatoes in tahdig, though I can't say it added that much and may have even added a bit of needless sogginess to the dish, but the real problem, beyond the tiny portion size, is that the sauce just didn't work - Albaloo Polo with Duck, duck leg confit, sour cherries, almond, pistachio, basmati rice, saffron - another dish that sounded great (I absolutely love sour cherry rice) but that was undone by the fact that they don't seem able to give their rice the right soft, fluffy texture - Gheymeh Nesar, angus short rib, pomegranate tomato sauce, almonds, orange, barberries, pistachios, basmati rice - there's a great Persian dish called fesenjun that incorporates pomegranate in a sauce, along with walnuts, to create an amazing sweet-and-sour combination, so we were excited to try a different pomegranate creation in a Persian restaurant; again, the description sounds much better than the implementation; the sauce just didn't work any magic, and the rice, again, was disappointing - Can't find the name of the desserts on their online menu, but one was a milk pudding, which was my favorite dish of the night, whereas the other was saffron ice cream, another standard standout at Persian restaurants, but their version here was, yet again, underwhelming because it was way too sweet Overall, it's not like this was bad, just overpriced and mediocre. Our dining companions who weren't as familiar with Persian food seemed excited about it, which is -- I suspect -- why this place and Sofreh get such great reviews. They have a great P.R. team, great presentation, a "wow" list of ingredients and flavors that are different than what Americans normally experience, so people get taken in. But I doubt too many Persians would think these places are especially great compared to what their grandmother can make. read more

I never get enough of this wonderful restaurant. Every time I go there, feels like the first. My son Julian and I go there often, sometimes with other family members and most times just us - nothing compares to our excitement when landing a table there. Every item on menu is delicious and beautifully presented. They make their own homemade bread with delicious yogurt for dipping. All the dishes have unique spices and we just prey that food doesn't finish too quickly! Highlight of night are the exquisite desserts - sometimes so good we order a few just for the two of us. I recommend the ice cream sandwiches and rose custard so so good! Everyone there extremely friendly, especially the humble owner/chef who gracefully nods his head thanking every patron as they leave.. and a pretty blond woman who seems like a manager and goes around making sure everything is perfect. I rave about it to whoever i know, and to my surprise everyone loves it there as well!!( I say surprise because the ones that are Iranian are highly critical yet love ey_val)) I live in midtown and never care about the trip. We got the cucumber salad, fava bean yogurt, the mushroom kebab, scallop kebab, and the bread. All good but nothing memorable or stunning. Also each dish was small - and too salty. Except the bread, which was hot, not salty. The mushrooms were interesting but not substantial. None of the kebabs came on the stick. So what makes it a kebab - Presumably they were cooked as a kebab? Overall great dining experience but too expensive for what it was - if you're willing to give up the pretty presentation, there are many places making similar food of the same quality for a fraction of the price. Also it's not "iranian"- at best this is Persian inspired American food. What you find on this menu is unlikely to be familiar to a single Iranian, and the label is mostly a way to differentiate itself from other trendy Williamsburg and Bushwick restaurants making similar Mediterranean-adjacent food. read more

The food is good but because the portions are small, the restaurant is very pricey for what you get. The server suggested we order 6-7 main courses for 4 people, which we did not do. We ended up getting 3 drinks, 1 appetizer, 3 breads, 2 salads and 3 different kebabs (2 vegetarian and 1 chicken; we ordered a 4th but there was a mix-up and we didn't bother getting it). The bill, with tip, came to nearly $200. Not terrible, but we didn't think it was worth it. The Eyval Doogh is a drink that tastes like kefir with gin. No one in our party liked it. The other drinks we had were very floral. The service was great, the place is pretty and, thanks to the recent rave review in the NYT, it was crowded.
