Let me just say, the staff is AMAZING from Dr Gittins to the support staff. They are professional,caring and are truly concerned for their patience. My son was recently a victim of a very violent crime on the news and with all the medical procedures he's had to go through, not being able to see was another obstacle. We were contacted by them to come in and they wanted to give him a thorough exam (which was important due to the head trauma) and take care of his missing glasses. These people have asked for NOTHING in return and got my son glasses same day and delivered them. I'm beyond words at the generosity. EYEcenter Optometric should thank Mahaila for this review. I was very apprehensive switching eye doctors after having the same doctor for 27 years. But, I was frustrated with having to travel two hours round trip to get to the office...plus I am a loyal customer when I find great service and great prices. I finally made the switch and chose off a paper list which made me nervous. First, I had my appointment. Then, my two children had their appointments. This is what I found ... The front office staff is FRIENDLY! (so important) There is a really cool espresso machine that's fun to use while waiting. The wait wasn't awful...impressive. The exams and tests were comprehensive...no short cuts. The back office ladies were FRIENDLY! (so important) Both doctors that we saw between myself and the kids were great. So, at this point I give a 4-star...better than average. I hit a road block that dropped it down to a 1-star just about this point and so I left. But, things just didn't seem right. So, I waited a week and returned. To my utter delight I met Mahaila in the optical department that turned that 4-star to a 1-star all the way to a 5-star. Why? Mahaila (optician) understands elite customer service. She listens to her customers. She doesn't short customers on service or product offerings. She is funny. She is efficient. She maximizes your insurance benefits. She is REAL! And, for that reason, I give EYEcenter Optometrics a FIVE STAR RATING!!!! I am very disappointed with this office. I had some new glasses ordered back in February 15 and not it is 25 and just getting them. I was told that it would at least take 3 weeks to get. I never receive notice that my glasses were delay or there was a problem. I went in four weeks ago and told me there was an issue. I just received notice today 4/25 that my glasses are in. Now to pick them up is another ordeal. They do not have an appointment to accommodate me. This is very disappointing. I have to wait another week to even get in and because their system can not find me on line I am not even sure I got the appointment. The appointed lady was not sympathetic and seemed she could care less. Now I am not sure if this is their practice because I have been going there for a long time and things are changing but I drive to this facility because I have always been take good care of. I have not been pleased with this place. Note. The doctor there is GREAT and I like him a lot. It's just his office and their method of operation that needs to be changed. (They were calling my old office phone and leaving messages but I don't work there anymore. It's another case of misusing technology. If no one answers then try another number. Person to person is always better than technology. ) They should also recheck their patients to make sure their phone info is up to date I waited over a month to get a pair of sunglasses and several times I went in only to find out they were not in yet They did finally get my glasses in and they gave me a 50% discount on them Next time I will just take my prescription somewhere else read more

I was blown away. I moved to roseville a year ago and was reluctant about where I should go to check my eyes. After my visit however I was amazed. Everyone was very nice and welcoming but what truly blew me away was the detailed tests they did and explains them to me. For the first time I understood what was going on with my eyes. read more

I forgot to update this review! When it came time for my annual.. I went elsewhere. Sure, the day I left the doctor, I was very happy with this place. When it came time to pick up my contacts that were ordered, I had to call back SEVERAL times, with barely any help at all. I was so irritated that it took so long to get my contacts in (which is the whole reason I go to see your company anyways) that I chose to go to another office. Your doctor was great, but the rest of your office really needed help with communication and service. If you are simply going in for a check up - then I will recommend this office. If you need to get something (i.e.: glasses or contacts) at a later date... Good luck. I would try somewhere else first. read more

There are two aspects to this business. Each gets a different rating: DOCTOR = 5 stars - highly informative, considerate, and friendly. Keeps me coming back. STORE = 1 star - always claiming to be busy but my observation is that they're very slow, inefficient and, to be candid, really don't give a crap about how long you're left waiting for service. When you finally do get service, their prices for frames, lenses, and add-ons are 2-3x what you would pay in a retail optic shop. Average rating is 2 stars because the store is more BAD than the doc is GOOD. (Sorry about the grammar.) RECOMMENDATION: Get your eyes checked here, then ask for a written prescription so you can purchase your glasses elsewhere. read more

Was there about 20 minutes without any acknowledgement from the employees. Terrible customer service

I'm EXTREMELY upset and disappointed at how I was treated by my eye doctor and his staff at EYEcenter Optometric. I was there about a month ago to get my eyes checked. However, at that time, I did not get my eye dilated. I mentioned to my eye doctor that I had lasik eye surgery done about ten years ago through LasikPlus Center. I was seriously thinking about having it done again since I have a lifetime warranty when I first got them done. So, I chose not to get glasses or contacts while I was there. Anyway, my eye doctor made a comment that the LasikPlus center is no longer in Rocklin. True enough, when I drove by, there was a new lasik eye center at the same location. I called LasikPlus' 1-800 number to get more information and was told that the closest center is in Oregon, which I am willing to drive to because I've been wanting to take a trip there anyway. LasikPlus then sent me a pretreatment form to be filled out by my eye doctor since they no longer have a center in California. Long story short, I emailed the form to EYEcenter about three weeks ago and again this morning prior to my appointment this morning at 8:00AM. I wanted to make sure that EYEcenter received the form and will have it ready for my eye doctor to fill out when I get there. When I got there, I asked the lady sitting at the front desk if the center received my form. I explained that I sent the form twice. She checked in the system and said she could not find the form. I told her to give me the center's email address again so that I can send the form to her that very moment. She then decided to give me the physical address. What was she thinking?!!! My appointment for that day was to have my eyes checked again and have my eye doctor fill out the pretreatment form for me to send to LasikPlus. That lady then explained that she's new and she doesn't know very much yet but she will try to get things sorted out for me. Fine! Another lady then walked in and they finally found the form. When my doctor finally showed up twenty minutes after my appointment, he did not even apologize for what had happened. Instead, he said there was a confusion on how they do things at the center. God knows what that inexperienced lady told him because he was telling me that it was not how things worked at their center regarding lasik surgery. He said they have their own doctors who perform lasik surgeries and because I didn't opt to go with their doctors, he is not obligated to check my eyes and to fill out LasikPlus' form. Wow! OK, you're talking oranges here when I'm talking apples. The reason I was upset at the beginning was because the center did not have the form ready when I first walked in for my early morning appointment. Then the inexperienced lady told me she couldn't find the form. I said that to him and he said the center doesn't have to have it ready. Wow, wow, wow! A professional center will have everything ready to go as the patient walks in. In my emails, I even stated that the form is to be filled out by my eye doctor when I see him today at 8:00AM. If your center doesn't want to perform an eye check-up and to fill out the form, well, please tell me ahead of time instead of wasting my time. The center had more than three weeks to have someone call me to explain their procedures but no one did. My eye doctor said it is LasikPlus' responsibility to check my eyes, not him. I then explained to him that they don't have a center here and that was why they asked me to have my eye doctor to do the pretreatment check-up so that they can evaluate the results to see if I'm a good candidate. LasikPlus was nice enough to send me the form to be filled out by my eye doctor here in Rocklin so that I don't have to spend the money and time to drive to Oregon simply to get my eye checked for my pretreatment. My eye doctor already knew that LasikPlus is no longer in Rocklin but yet he kept saying that if I had opted for their doctors, then he would gladly perform the eye check. Wow! How caring of you, doc! You made it sound as if EYEcenter only wants my $$$ and would not be willing to assist in any way so that I can get the best eye care. And there you were, explaining that there was a confusion simply because your center has its own forms to be filled out for your own lasik doctors. You simply didn't get it, did you? It's not about your forms! It was about the fact that your center did not have my form ready when I walked in this morning. And even if they had, and if you're not willing to fill out that form on my behalf, then please for God's sake, tell me in advance so that my time is not wasted at your center. Well, I am certain that I will never go back to EyeCenter again. Definitely no respect whatsoever for your own patient! Shame on you all! read more

If you are getting a contact lens fitting, and are a new contact lens wearer, be sure to have them explain their policy. If you cannot put them in and take them out twice in the office, you can't take them home. Hard to do for a new wearer! And without the chance to practice at home, where there is no pressure and you are much more relaxed, it may take many office visits to have success. We found this out the hard way, after paying the fitting fee and having the fitting, and then being told this policy. We are now at another optometrist, who is more than willing to let the patient bring sample lenses home to practice with. Of course every patient situation is different (this patient has a long-time contact wearer at home to help), but I was surprised that this policy was not explained before the fitting (and $100 fee). read more

I was a first time customer recently and had to make a few trips to their office when purchasing my glasses. For my first appointment, they were late 25 minutes and my second (and last visit) they were 40 minutes late. There is nothing more frustrating than taking off work early to sit in the lobby for almost an hour and without even a courtesy call to let me know. The second issue with this place is calling them. You never get anyone on the phone! When selecting the option to speak to someone, I was on hold for 15 minutes before I hung up. I called back and left a messages and it took three business days to get a returned phone call. I won't be back again!! read more

After being a customer of this business for over 25 years, I won't be going back. I went in this morning to get my glasses adjusted. Three employees at the front desk while one asks for my name. I provided my name and was told to "have a seat and I'll be called". I was the only customer in the place and I waited for 10 minutes for an optician to call my name. I explained that I had purchased the glasses from their Greenback location earlier in the week and they needed adjustment. The optician took my glasses to the back room, and came back about 2 minutes later. The glasses still did not fit properly. At this point, the optician told me that she's done all she could do and I needed longer ear pieces. I asked if she could order them and she told me, "We don't carry Silhouettes here" and told me I'll have to drive back to Greenback Lane to their other store to get this accomplished. She stated the glasses are too small and could not be fitted properly. I then drove over to the Greenback Lane store, waited less than 5 minutes to be helped (they had customers there). The optician listened to my story, took the glasses back to the back room 3 times and properly fit the glasses. So, if you're looking for slow and lazy customer service, this is the place to go. Otherwise, drive over to Greenback Lane for prompt professional service. read more

My husband and I have been patients of another eye doctor for a very long time. It was time for a change. I saw Dr. Gittins and can now say I have a new doctor for my vision needs! He is kind, professional, and very thorough. The office has a cool scanner for retina scans! Something my former eye doctor doesn't have. He also provides service at the Citrus Heights location. I worked with Tanya to select frames. Bless heart very patient heart!! I tried on way too many just to pick out the perfect ones. She was helpful and very honest. Wonderful service, beautiful facility, and friendly staff. I saw Dr. Gittins for my myopia and Dr. Earhart for my reading problems. Dr. Gittins was professional and explained what he was doing while he was diagnosing and fixing my vision problem (and I got some nice glasses!) and Dr. Earhart was extremely helpful in telling me how he was going to help me fix my reading problem (I had some weak muscles on the inside of my eye). Pedro and Shirlene were wonderful in the vision therapy department and I'd highly recommend anyone who is having trouble tracking words on pages, or loses their place when they're reading (my issues) to go to EYECenter to fix the issue. One thing, the vision therapy is only at the Citrus Heights location so it was a bit more of a drive for me but it was not horrible (right off of greenback on 80) read more

Like others have observed, while the doctor is great, the office staff is terrible. I won't write a long diatribe to discuss all that is wrong with the staff, but these were the problems we had: --Getting the lens prescription wrong, even though their doctor wrote it --Telling us that the glasses would be in on a certain day, and then, three weeks later, still no glasses --Poor communication --When the glasses finally did arrive, the lenses appeared to be of poor quality, even though we upgraded to a higher level of plastic We will never go back here again. read more

I so wanted to go and get some new glasses from this business, as they are one of the few that are open on Saturday's, and have later hours on select Weekdays. I had 4 members of my family - all which need exams and glasses or contacts. I called them 4 times during their "open" hours, each time my call was "#1 and would be answered next" and never did anyone answer the phone. I did leave a message. Nobody ever called me back. Ever. Seems like they don't want my, or anyone else's business, as they never answer the phone or return messages. I will be taking my eyeglass business elsewhere. read more

I have ordered two pair of glasses from the Eyecenter in Rocklin and had a bad experience both times. The first pair I ordered had to be sent back twice because the Crizal coating was faulty and scratched really easily. I finally gave up on ordering the Crizal and went with a less expensive coating that has worked out fine. It took me 4 weeks to get this pair of glasses. I went back in because I need progressive lenses. The office visit was fine (I have nothing negative to say about the doctors). I was told the glasses would take two weeks and was happy to get a call telling me that they were in early. However when I went to pick them up I quickly realized they had ordered the wrong frames. We sent them back on a "rush" that took about 8 days to fulfill, only to get a phone call telling me that there were quality issues with the glasses and that the lab has to remake them. Lord knows when I'll finally get my glasses. I'm paying $700 for these (with insurance!!) and don't have a lot of confidence that I will get a good product. It seems that the main issues with this store is the lab (judging by the other reviews) and that has been my experience too. I won't be going back. **Update** The saga continues. I got a call today from the manager apologizing for the problems I have had (which was nice) and they made it known that they saw my Yelp review (awkward). I was told the glasses came in and that they had passed inspection at the lab and at the store and that they were perfect. Terrific. I go to the store and pick up the glasses. In the store they seemed okay but a little blurry. I disregarded the blurriness thinking that it might be part of the process of adapting to progressive lenses. But once I got home and put them on they looked like they were smudged. When I held them up to the light I saw large areas of spiderwebbing on both lenses. I just went back to the store and got confirmation that the anti-glare coating on the lenses is faulty. $700 out of pocket and I can't get a decent pair of glasses. I'm crushed because I wanted to wear my new glasses on vacation and I can't even keep the faulty pair while I wait for my new ones because my insurance insists on sending back the frames to have them fitted at the lab. At this point I don't know who to be more angry with-- the lab or the store that assured me my glasses were perfect and sent me home with lenses that were unwearable. **Final Update** I did finally get my glasses and, credit where credit is due, the front office staff handled this as well as they could have. It could not have been easy to keep having to call me and tell me every time there was an issue, but they did. The final result is a good pair of glasses that I am very happy with. ** I received a call today telling me that Eyecenter made an additional pair of glasses for me through their lab (all the previous problems were through the lab my insurance required me to go through) and, I must say, I am very impressed at how much effort the staff at Eyecenter went through to make up for the problems I had had in trying to get these glasses. I am leaving up my previous comments because it is an honest account of my experience. I will add the caveat that my problems had a lot to do with my insurance (Eye Med) because it doesn't allow much flexibility in where my glasses are made. read more

I wanted a very inexpensive pair of glasses for backup ( knowing the glasses would rarely if ever be worn). They had just what I needed (although they also have designer frames). If you read the 1 star reviews you will understand the frustration with this facility. The sad part is the doctors themselves are great. Very professional, make sure you understand what the results are, and have a true passion for making sure the customer is taken care of completely. The sad part is the staff that they have working for them have no clue what they are doing and can't do their jobs. I have been there three times with my kids and they have screwed up paperwork, scheduling, and insurance billing every time. I have also over heard issues with the incorrect forms they are using, billing issues and customer complaints while sitting in the front waiting room. I showed up today 7/13/21 and was told I missed my first kids appointment by 20 min. I have an email from them with the correct times and the information in the office was wrong. I asked if they could see them today and work the other kid in and was told no. Just to let you know the lobby was empty. So I have decided to take my Kids and MONEY elsewhere. We spoil our kids and always add additional options and cool frames or sport goggles to our minimum insurance. Guess someone else will be getting that money now. A quick word of advice to the owners, unless you have an endless source of money and don't care about keeping your existing customers, address the lack of skill set your staff has, find yourself some new employees before you loose your business. read more

When I needed to adjust my schedule they worked with me to make it happen. By far the best experience I have had dealing with Optometry services. I called in the morning to inquiry about using my VSP insurance to get contacts. The person I talked to was very friendly and informative. I arrived at the location an hour after my initial phone conversation. When I arrived, I gave my information to the receptionist at the front desk. Not even five minutes after I arrived, I was seen by an optometrist, gave him my prescription and received my contacts right there. The whole process took at the most 15 minutes. Do not go here! There's always a problem when I go here. I came here to get contacts from Dr. Gittins and the experience was horrible. It took over 2 months to actually get contacts that I can bring home and wear because every time I went to pick them up, they prescription was completely wrong. I ended up going back to be disappointed by the contacts around 6 times. The doctor let me take them home to wear around the 6th time that I went back, and they were still wrong. They told me to wear them for the 2 week adjustment period, and then I would be able to see 20/25 in them. After two weeks, I could still see better in my glasses than my contacts. I have pretty strong astigmatism, so I can never see very good in glasses already because they can't make glasses in my prescription, so that's saying something about those contacts that were supposed to make me see "20/25". I had these hard contact lenses before from a different doctor, and I was able to see 20/20 perfectly for the first time, and it only took a week for me to receive my lenses, vs. 2 months at this practice. I hounded them for a refund for a month or so and just now got it. The team does not communicate well with you at all. The staff is nice, but one of them will tell you one thing and the other will tell you something else. For instance, I was told my exam would cost $80 when I booked the appointment, but once I was done with the exam, they charged me almost $200 just for the exam. I also didn't even get a refund for the exam even though I expressed how deeply disappointed I am I'm their service. I literally got nothing out of it and just lost money. I am also a broke college student and was pressured by multiple staff members to get scleral contact lenses which I made very clear before that I could not afford those. read more

I saw John Coen in the Rocklin office because he supposedly got my husband "dialed in" with his new glasses. I came into the office for one of their "evening appointments" and Dr. Coen asked "What are you doing out this late?" Mind you, it was like 6pm. Uh, I just got off work and commuted from the U.C. Davis campus in downtown Sac. Dr. Coen seemed perturbed that he had to perform a late/evening appointment. Then, I specifically told him that I wanted occupational glasses for the computer and near-sighted glasses for driving. He kept pressuring me to get progressives, all while continuing to play with his own (new?) progressive glasses...almost like he was testing them or checking them out during my appointment. Strange. I was handed off to a tall guy with sandy blond or reddish hair. I can't really remember. Anyway, I think his name was Matt. Well, since it was already late, he wanted to just write up my order (for progressives?!) in a hurry and get me out of there. I disputed the progressives but he wouldn't give me any options/prices for different types of lenses; whereby, clearly I had options with my DUAL coverage, and the fact that my husband had several options for his glasses. Matt(?) was in a rush to leave and kept looking at his watch while writing up my order. I was so annoyed with the whole experience that I called the next day to cancel my order for both pairs of glasses (and hopefully, that guy's commission). I ended up ordering with Zenni and used my FSA account. Aside from all of this, we had major issues with my daughter's contacts as well. Someone ended up sending the wrong Rx to the lab and we had to wait an additional 3 weeks for her special order contacts. I was told to have my daughter "baby" her last disposable until the order came in. Good thing she didn't get an eye infection. The funniest part about all of this, is that I heard numerous complaints in that waiting area while trying to sort out what happened with my daughter's contacts. A place with that many issues/complaints, especially witnessed by other potential patients, is terrible for business. read more

A wonderful experience. The professional staff made us feel right at home. The support staff was very attentive and courteous and very helpful. The doctors are fantastic and went the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable and explained everything to us.
