Viewpoint Optometry is conveniently located in the shopping center at the corner of Sierra College and Douglas. It is in the corner by Jack's Urban Eats. Lots of parking, easy to find. I have purchased two pairs of RX glasses here over the past year and I am a very happy customer. The employees are all super kind and professional and knowledgeable. They helped sort out my vision insurance also. They have an extensive selection of frames - designer and not designer. The process is smooth and easy. Both pairs of my glasses took about two weeks to be ready. I like that they text you updates and it's just so simple to go in and pick up your glasses. Both pairs were pefect right when they arrived. I really wish I would have read the reviews and realized all these great reviews are from years ago!! This is the worst experience I have ever had with an eye doctor. The receptionist could care less being there, the doctor didn't listen when I kept saying everything was blurry on my bi- focal (i don't have any issues seeing up close) and even suggested to me I shouldn't use my phone as much because it's just me not adjusting to her prescription. I have a job that requires use of a cell phone, text messages, and emails. That response was a very out-of-touch response. During the exam, she kept asking me which slide was clearer but nothing was changing in the machine. When I commented I can't tell the difference, she got agitated with me and just kept repeating, slide 1 or 2. i have had exams in the past, and something always clicks in the machine so it's clear difference between slides but nothing was happening with this machine. I finally did my best to answer but I think I ended up undermining myself. I was then fitted with a contact lens, given a couple of samples but then told, save the last one for the doctor. So I could wear them 3 days to see if they worked. It gave me a terrible headache and only figured out the adjustment period is actually three weeks (AI taught me that, not the doctor). I paid $150 in contact exam, fitting, and whatever else fees and none of that was discussed with me ahead of time. When I called back to ask questions I was brushed off being told the doctor will explain that to you next time. I don't usually take time to write reviews because I don't honestly think these companies care. I am just so tired Of having to over-advocate for myself every time I go to a doctor because their boredom/arrogance keeps getting in the way. read more

Hadn't had eye exam in a while and lost my readers ‍ so took it as a sign to get my eyes checked. Making an appointment as a new patient was easy online. On arrival, I was greeted warmly and brought back within a minute or two. Initial part of eye exam was pretty quick and everything was explained well. They offered a scan (can't remember the name) which provides a view behind the eye to check for nerve attachments (I think that's what it was). Regardless it provides a baseline for eye health. It's purely optional and tech explained it was covered by insurance but the cost was minimal (~$30-40) Fine tuning of vision check (all the "standard" checks) was done by the Dr Lauren Van Winkle who is super down to earth and pleasant. Yep confirmed still need readers (no shocker for me). Super helpful picking out frames. Ooooo you can choose 5frames ahead of tour appt to try so you have a starting point! Genius!!!! I tried probably 10-12 frames and never felt rushed or that I was being a bother. Frames ordered and they arrived in 2weeks. Fitting was great and I LOVE my glasses! This is my optometrist and I highly recommend! read more

5 stars for the nice person at the front desk, 1 star for the manager. The manager called me and asked when I'd be bringing in my glasses to get the new lenses put in. They'd been sitting there a while, and I explained we've had a lot going on in our family. I said I could be there around 1:30. I asked if the person who would install them would definitely be there. She said yes, that would be me, and then she said she'd be there until 6 something. I arrived at 1:35 with my kids. She was not there. And she had not informed her coworker that someone would be coming in to get their glasses fixed. We had spoken less than 2 hrs before I arrived. The manager seemed to have deliberately left when she knew I'd be able to come in. Her coworker had no idea why I was there, and had to call her to ask if she could fix my glasses herself. The manager had some kind of weird attitude when on the original phone call at 12:17, and then she left right when I had said I'd arrive, after she said she'd be there the whole rest of the day. I would not recommend this place. That being said, the front desk person who actually helped me- deserves a raise. The doctor who checked my eyes a few years ago didn't listen to my concerns about my left eye changing colors and shifting, either. read more

AMAZING Doctor and Staff!! We had been going to Viewpoint Optometry (family of 4) over the course of a few years but then had moved out of town. We recently moved back to Placer County and our son (who is away at college) waited to tell me he was down to only a few contacts left. His prescription had also expired and was coming home for a couple of days and needed an eye exam. Panicked, I called Viewpoint Optometry explaining our predicament. That was literally at 5:25pm and to my delight, they remembered us and were so wonderful that they offered to get my son in at 5:45pm for his exam. I've had my exam and received my new glasses. This is my second set of services from Viewpoint .. a few years apart with another optometry spot in between. Three specific 'things' stand out regarding the services here: * friendly and professional staff (attentive and fun) * no pressure sales (interested in finding frames I like, not what they like) * taking the time to explain things (whether or not coordination of benefits makes financial sense, for example. Details your vision carrier may not tell you) They've moved to their new location in the week since I picked up and was fitted my new glasses. Did your last optometrist take the time necessary to make sure, really sure, that the fit of your glasses was correct? While they were amidst a move on a Saturday? Explain the proper method of transitioning to your new prescription? Not everything is perfect all the time. It takes just a little time and caring to ensure a complete satisfactory (or better) service. It's how issues are handled that can really make a difference. I feel so lucky to have found this place (mostly due to all of these positive yelp reviews and them being in my network). Dr. Van Winkle is so friendly, sweet, and very relatable. She makes you feel comfortable and explains everything quite well. They have a new machine that you can use where they take a picture of your eyeball instead of dilating them. It's great, which makes it to easy to come during lunch and go back to work after. Anyways, she made sure to show me the photo of my inner eye, and even went so far as to show me what my eyes would look like if I had ocular cancer, diabetes, etc. thankfully my eyes were healthy, but she's very thorough. They have a very good frame selection - Tory Burch, Jimmy Cho, Kate Spade, Toms, Ray Ban - just to name a few. The frames range in all prices to fit anyone's budget. The staff is also super friendly, helpful, and honest! They don't tell you every single pair of glasses look awesome on you, but tell you nicely which ones they feel look best or which ones are popular. Not only is the staff professional, they also know their stuff and have incredible style. I actually only came here to pick out glasses--had my exam at Kaiser--but I met Dr. Vanwinkle when she walked another client out. Imagine my surprise she is actually a cute little Asian gal and not an old Dutch man with a beard. I had a young girl and a lady named Jarena help me and she was a cute older lady with great taste. Hopefully I'm not offending anyone. I mean this all in a good way. She was patient while I tried on almost every frame in the office and texted my sister pictures. They did special measurements that I've never had done elsewhere so my glasses fit better. I ended up with a pair of Jimmy Choos. They have glasses and not just shoes. I came here after several bad lenscrafters experiences. The ladies here were busy , but extra friendly, easygoing, no sales pressure, and made time to get my prescription faxed over and feel welcome. I didnt buy here because lenscrafters still wouldnt release my contact lens prescription. Which later i got finalized. Only downside is its a small office and small selection.
