Dr. Kevin Lockhart is an outstanding eye doctor. What I most appreciate about him is that he takes his time, he's very thorough, he's a very good listener and he's an excellent communicator with a good sense of humor. He is very careful about dialing in your prescription to make sure you get the best corrective lens possible. He's also knowledgeable about medical conditions and medications that can affect vision; he makes sure to take those into account.
Any business is only as good as its worst employee. I'm happy to say that everyone at Granite Bay Vision Care is terrific. They have had ZERO turnover in the ~10 years I've gone there, which speaks really well for this practice. They have a very good selection of eyeglass frames to choose from. The frames tend to be higher-end brands although there are some budget-friendly options. (Eye care insurance really helps with cost.) Opticians Vicki and Kristyn are outstanding at helping you choose frames that are just right for your face. They take their time with you, never making you feel rushed. They'll give you honest (yet always diplomatic) feedback on how frames look on you, which I really appreciate. They've suggested frames for me that I wouldn't have considered on my own, thinking they'd look bad on me. But they've been right every single time so I've learned to trust their judgment. Glasses usually come in much faster than promised and the lenses are excellent quality. If there's ever been an issue with my glasses, even long after purchase (even when it was my fault, like the time I sat on my glasses), they have fixed minor things for free and with a cheerful attitude (missing screw, bent nose piece or just glasses getting too loose over time). Vicki and Kristyn are knowledgeable about all the ins and outs of various brands and can navigate insurance processes with ease. They do it all with a happy spirit that's contagious.
Last but not least, anyone who's considering going here should know that Dr. Lockhart donates his time and expertise to underprivileged people, traveling to third world countries to give eye exams and provide prescription eyeglasses free of charge to people who desperately need them. He literally changes lives, giving the gift of better eyesight to people who would otherwise not be able to access care or afford it. Instead of decorating his office with glossy photos of supermodels wearing the fanciest high-end glasses like most eye doctors do, Dr. Lockhart's hallways have pictures of grateful patients from other countries. He is so passionate about helping people that in recent years, he even went to Myanmar, a country with considerable political unrest that poses a potential threat to tourists.
I give Dr. Lockhart and Granite Bay Vision Care my highest possible recommendation.
A brief note on Covid19:
The office is extremely careful to screen each patient and anyone accompanying them for fever immediately upon entry into the office. Masks are required throughout the entire appointment, including frame selection. Frames are sanitized after anyone touches them; they are not just put back on the rack. If you want to see how eyeglass frames look without a mask on your face, you can do so by taking them outside. They have one-way flow of foot traffic, with patients coming in one door and then exiting a different door, and patients are kept at safe distances from one another. read more
