I have been taking my daughter to the eye center since 2003. She was 8 years old and saw Dr. Fred Fuerst. He was wonderful and took all the time needed to check the health of her eyes and explain glasses to us both. The following year she switched to contacts and again he took extra care to teach her how to care for her eyes and contacts. My family was stationed in NC from 2008-2011 so, obviously we did not go to the eye center during those years. However, when we moved back, no question we made her annual eye appointment at the eye center. We were told Dr. Fred no longer saw contact patients and made my daughter's (now 17) appointment with his son Dr. Randy Fuerst. Dr. Randy was very nice and just like his father took the time to talk with both of us about the health of my daughter's eyes. My daughter's prescription changes every year. After doing a routine exam. The same exam she has had every year since 2003, we decided to get both glasses and contacts. We were advised to use our insurance (VSP) toward the glasses, because the money would go further. We did. She was fitted for the glasses and sent home with sample contacts. we paid for the appointment and the balance for the glasses and scheduled a appointment to come back in two weeks. A few hours after the appointment I got a call saying that we had a balance of $34 "new patient fee" that was mistakenly not charged, and that I could pay it when we came back in two weeks. I reminded them that I was not a new patient and that we had come back to Dr. Fred's practice after living out of state for a few years. I was then told it was because we saw a new Dr. I reminded them that Dr. Fred no longer saw contact patients, so we would have had to see another Dr. Anyway. I was then told a manager would call me back, never happened. Today was the follow-up. Our appt. was 5:20pm. We were 20 minutes early for the appointment, but sat waiting 45 minutes past our appointment time. We were just there to pick up glasses and let them know that the sample contacts were the ones that we were going with. Dr. Randy saw my daughter again and made sure the contacts were right and the ones she was most comfortable in. Carrie, the women who helped her fit her glasses was very nice, but when it came time to pay mentioned the balance of $34. I questioned it and told her the conversation I had with the manager. She said there was no such thing as a charge for new patients "that is only what they bill my insurance, since it's been a few years since we've been to this practice and that the charge was for the contact lens exam" I understand the need for extra steps during the eye exam for contacts that are not taken when just getting glasses, as both Dr. Fred and then years later his son Dr. Randy had explained to us during previous visits. I have never been charged for these steps before at this practice or at our Dr. In NC. Now they charge $40 on top of the eye exam if you are being seen for contacts. Then there was some back and forth behind the desk as the read notes and told me they would talk with billing. By this time the office was closed and the ladies behind the desk were rude, condescending, rushing and never answered my questions. We didn't get out of there until 6:45!! We paid for an annual supply of contacts and Carrie told us that she would investigate the $34 balance. I didn't even look for another Dr. When returning to the area. We loved Dr. Fred so much, however if the ladies and managers behind the desk are going to treat us the way they did this evening we won't go back next year. Dr. Fred will be retiring soon and Dr. Randy is nice, but his front staff is NOT! They seem to charge extra fees for many services that are standard practice. But what made me want to write this 2 star review is the awful customer service and attitude from the ladies behind the front desk! The stars are for the Dr. Fuerst's! read more

While the eye doctor is fine, my problem is with the people selling the glasses. So I pick up my new glasses and they look and feel great. Spend the next day playing golf and I notice they are not getting dark. I call a nice woman at Eye center to let her know the transition lenses are not working. She tries to tell me that I didn't order transitions. I tell her to please check her paperwork again. She comes back on and says they made an error and ordered the glasses without transitions style lenses. Cool, no problem, they will order up another set. I understand it's a mistake, no biggie. 2 weeks go by and they call me to come in and get my new lenses. My GF goes out (I'm working), and they put the new lenses in my frames. GF just happens to ask them to test the transitions to make sure it works before she leaves. They test it and they DON'T WORK AGAIN. These new lenses are not transitions either! So now we get to wait another week while they make another set! Once is an honest mistake. Twice is total incompetence. I've always had good service here in the past, so maybe it's a HR issue? read more

My mom and I have been patients of Dr.Earharts for years and followed him out to Citrus Heights. My mom called to make an appt.and was told his last day was 1-30-2016. They weren't able to tell her where he went so if anyone knows please leave a message. When your dealing with your sight you definitely want a doctor you can trust. Although I've never had problems with the staff before I just think if you want to follow your doctor you've been with and trust that they should give you the information. So until then I will find a doctor for my mom closer to her home. read more

I was seen right away & treated well the first time around. They offer a good selection of glasses for both the simple and trendy. The copay for my glasses was reasonable. The waiting area is decent. They have about 10 copies of the same Sports and Parenting magazines. They have coffee & cider during the holidays. I'm not a big fan of fake plants, they just collect a bunch of dust. The decor reminds me of the 80's.... Yeah, I know what you're thinking.. save it! "Tiffany, you weren't around in the 80's." The dated look isn't a problem.. I find it more welcoming than the typical ultra modern doctor's office. My glasses were ready in less than a week. I decided to pick them up after a dentist's appointment & the numbness was gone by the time I got my glasses. After sitting there for a really long time, I asked how much longer it would take & the lady behind the desk acted as if she didn't even know I was there. She asked what time my appointment was and after I explained to her that I was there for a pick up.. she apologized and got someone on it. If I wasn't out of my mind after that dentist's appointment, I would have spoke up earlier. There was just 2 other people being seen, so there's really no excuse for signing someone in and then completely forgetting about them. It took 2 minutes to hand over my glasses, yet I was waiting for an hour? I received my glasses from a lady who wasn't doing anything the entire time I was there. She was walking around and chatting it up. Despite that experience, I'm still giving them 4 stars because Dr Fred Fuerst was wonderful. read more

She was very sympathetic to my complaints and definitely made my concerns feel like a priority to her and their office. She reassured me that my next experience at their office would be different. Overall: 3.5 - I would recommend, my child and I are regulars (annual check-ups). I haven't had anything go wrong in the past 2 years that have led me to change offices so that's a good thing! Appointment availability: 4 (I like that they are open on Saturdays, early morning. It makes getting in and out and on with the rest of my day a breeze!) Front Desk Service: 3.5 Doctor Service: 4 Experience: 3.5 (LOTS of moving from station to station for testing...I suppose this makes your results very thorough. I just wish I didn't have to move from room to room to room) I wish the front desk was a bit more informative: I opted not to be "fitted" for contacts (an extra charge) since I was already fitted previously. Unbeknownst to me it is state law to receive a contact fitting every year if you are renewing your contact prescription, which is different than a glasses prescription. I have worn contacts and glasses for over 20 years and I never knew that, but I would think the optometrist front desk receptionist would know to tell me that. Instead I go a nice surprise when I went to pay my bill and saw the extra charges. When I asked the salesperson about it she explained to me that I couldn't renew my contact prescription w/out getting a fitting...Guess my eyeballs get bigger every year! read more

I have been visiting this Eyecenter for 2 years. This time around my kids who are 5 and 6 years old and my self had an amazing experience with the Doctor tech her name is Brittany. She is amazing with kids she made them feel so comfortable and welcome. My kids kept on telling me they liked her so much. The manager is amazing as well. read more

I've been going to see Dr. Fuerst for years (and his father since I was in high school, just a few years ago :). I've always had excellent care at this office. He takes time to explain any issues or concerns and how my eyesight is progressing (or is it regressing!). The opticians are always helpful and friendly in assisting me in selecting glasses. Insurance and billing are explained so there's no confusion. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Fuerst and his office for your eye needs. read more

I wish that I could give two different reviews. Amazing Doctors, but horrible Optometrists. I have been going to this eye center since I was 14 years old. So 29 years to be exact. Dr. Rappa sees my whole family now. She really listens to our concerns every year. When it comes to the Optometry Department, I have had the worst experience with them for 2 years in a row now. Not with just me, but with my husband as well. We are double covered with insurance, and still spend a lot of money in there every year, only to be dissatisfied with their services. As of the service that I received yesterday, we will no longer purchase glasses from this place. We will continue to see Dr. Rappa every year because she is AWESOME! We will take our prescriptions elsewhere. I have referred a lot of my friends and family to this office and it makes me so sad that we have been treated so poorly. I have been a patient at EYEcenter for the past couple years. My work has me back and forth between Sacramento and Seattle and the only physician I have retained in this area is my eye doctor. (Primary Care, women's doc, dentist are all in Seattle now). I only schedule my eye appointments here at EYEcenter. I have referred many of my friends and family to Dr. Fuerst at the Citrus Heights office. He is incredibly knowledgable and takes the extra time to explain things to me about my eye health and ways to help best maintain it. He sometimes gets behind schedule- seemingly because he spends maybe too much time working with each of his patients because he truly cares about giving ample care to each. If you want to have an amazing experience being frame styled ask for Terri. They have brands I like such as Valentino and Chloe, which I thought I would only find at Nordstrom. I now buy my sunglasses here as well because the offer great deals if you buy 2 pairs. read more

On the day of my appointment, the staff at the midtown location was late opening the office. As a result, they did not perform all of the usual exams. They did not apologize for keeping me waiting. Now I see they have changed their hours to 9 AM. Not very useful for those of us who need early appointments to accommodate our work schedules. When I picked up my glasses, they did not adjust them. My visit here was awesome ! My first visit at that. Greeted with a smile, almost immediately brought back to start the appointment Taylor helped me with my eye measurements before I saw Dr.Rappa. Taylor was super duper nice and I was impressed because they don't have to dilate your eyes!! They have some cool machine that scans ur eyes. Dr. Rappa was super chill!! Awesome personality and very honest. I was really worried about some markings in my eyes from what other doctors have not really explained to me, she put all my worries to rest explaining each thing to me and actually showing me pictures of different eyes similar my problem and spelled out the thing I needed to google for more info! We want to share a wonderful experiences we had with the EyeCenter. My son wears CK vision correction lens during nights. This morning, however he couldn't find his RFP hard lens remover anywhere. After 3-hours of desperate efforts, we were still not able to take his lens off. We tried multiple local department stores, pharmacies, and we found the only way we can get that little lens remover is through online order, which can take several days to arrive... We also called several local optometric offices, we were either told that they dont have doctors on duty over the weekend, or they cannot help us since we are not their existing patients. Before heading to ER for emergency helps, we called the EyeCenter, just to try our luck. Guess what? The EyeCenter staff took us in without asking any questions. We drove 20 miles to the EyeCenter. Within 5 mins, they took off of the lens for my son, also gave him a lens remover for emergence usage. All for free! As the parents of our child, we want to thank all staff and doctors in the EyeCenter for your kindness and helps this morning. Beyond irritated!! Made an appointment online a week before my appointment for 9:30AM. Got a text message reminder of the appt for 9:30AM on the day of the appt. On the way to the appt the office calls and said there's a mixed up with their new online scheduler that the doctor whose I was scheduled with isn't working at this location today. And that there's absolutely no opening available near my original time frame! My options were to reschedule or wait until 10:50AM! Who got time to wait an 1 hr plus? Are you going to pay my babysitter extra because you guys can't do your job right? I definitely won't be returning to this place with the worst customer service ever!! read more

Went in Monday for an eye appointment was seen with in 10 min of checking in! Dr. GINA is awesome! EXCELLENT staff. Everybody is knowledgeable. I went to Eye center Optometric for a new RX and glasses; I wear progressives. When my glasses came in the first time, I thought this is clearly a mistake! The vision field is so tiny that there was no way possible to see out of them. I went back and they remeasured, went to get the second pair and not much better. I could never wear them. This time a very kind gentleman named Walt came and worked with me and the fitting. I went to pick them up for the third time and they were perfect!!! If it were not for Walt and the manager of the Folsom store , I would've left a poor rating. But I must say ask for Walt! He is the best ! read more

Was looking for a new place after bad customer service experiences elsewhere. The receptionist was very friendly. After trouble finding an appointment at the nearby office, I made one for 2 weeks out. However the receptionist said she would make a note to call me if they had a cancellation on a day I was hoping for 2 days away. We took our daughter here for a developmental eye exam nearly twenty years ago (Dr. Randy Fuerst does some additional special diagnostics that not all eye doctors provide or are experienced in, and which can be very helpful for kids) and I have been going there ever since. Go to the folsom location, staff more pleasant, office more organized. First eye appointment in 3 years and I will NOT be going back to this office. Still waiting for their billing department to reach out to me to refund the $481 I spent out of pocket on services covered by my insurance (VSP) wow I'm extremely underwhelmed. Will be speaking with the office manager Janet tomorrow to hopefully get some communication. Shouldn't the practice look for the insurance? I've been going here for about 10 years now and the staff is friendly, however, their service has gone down hill. This is now the second year in a row I've had issues. I received an email and a text message stating my glasses were in and to come and pick them up. So I came in the next day after taking half a day off work, and I now live an hour away, to find out that the message was incorrect and that my glasses were not there. The employee talked to me like I was an idiot until I showed her both the email and the text. She had no sympathy or offer of some kind of incentive to continue using their services. They over booked, so of course, it took 3 hours for my appointment to even complete. I waited 30 minutes in the room waiting before the Dr showed up, then, I waited almost 45 minutes for an assistant to help me get my glasses and prescription figured out. Of course, I've received no reply to the email I sent to them either. But I'm sure, like all the other not so friendly reviews, they'll offer up an excuse on to how this was the customers fault. I took my 6 year old son here, so you can imagine the level of difficulty trying to 1. Keep his attention focused 2. Not be afraid, since this was his first time. I will have to say that this facility was very nice, clean, and the staff was very pleasant. The optometrist was very thorough in explaining everything. I sensed a little irritation with my son during the exam because my child's focus was very slim and eventually my child shut down. I'm sure my son sensed it too. I wish they had booster seats, because I had to hold my son during the exam. It was very hard to keep him on my lap and he kept sliding off during the actual exam. When it came time to ordering the glasses, the woman helping us was AMAZING. She was incredibly helpful and had the ability to talk to my son in a way that most professionals can't. She related to what he liked, and he opened up to her so fluidly. read more

So I am heading to Thailand for vacation in a few weeks here, and I have been getting quite the common questions from fellow Americans: "Are you worried about the crime, getting robbed, pick pocketed, etc." There is quite a lot of irony in the questions of crime in other countries coming from Americans. If you want to find crime, especially in the nature of being robbed or pick pocketed, you need to look no further than your back yard, and in the case of this review, EYEcenter Optometric. Now I don't think even the most hardened Thailand criminal could rob me for more than the attempted robbery of EYEcenter Optometric. Now I use the word "attempted" because had it not been for my cunning intellectual skills and persistence to stand up to shady slimy "businesses", I would be out a lot more money than I actually am. People have been warning me of things in Thailand, "Be careful of eating this, or be careful of doing that." Hell, I need to be 10 times more careful signing any sort of contract in America, rather than doing even the most dangerous of things in a foreign country. Why is it that nearly every time I do business with an American business, I must feel like I have to watch out for getting scammed, such as the case w/ EYEcenter Optometric? The long and short of the story: I wanted to go about trying out wearing contact lenses. I have VSP insurance. I schedule an appointment, they screw up the appointment and charge my insurance for an eyeglasses exam (which I just had one less than a year prior, and eyeglasses prescriptions are good for 2 years, and there was no change with my eyes) So after their screw up, they are going to try and charge me another $213 out of pocket for the actual contact lens consultation. This is after a phone call w/ a "manager" who told me something completely different. So here I stand now, no insurance money left and no contact lens prescription. Luckily I have not paid anything out of pocket to these thieves. Beyond the problem of this company trying to steal the skin off your back, they also have a massive problem of communication between receptionists, "doctors", and "managers". I guess between the intelligence level of the receptionists and the "managers" simple "OHHHH OHHHHH" "AAHHH AHHH" and various grunts used for communication can cause some misunderstandings between the two. And like all good American people, the error or mistake is never of their own cause. Heed my warnings and stay very far away from this place. read more

I made appointments for myself, husband and 5 year old, and the staff were great. They even did my preliminary tests at the same time as my son so he would not be frightened. It was his first optometry appointment and he was nervous. The office was super clean and our appointments were right on time. Best part? They don't need to dilate your eyes, they have some high tech equipment!!! If anyone is looking for a kind, professional and thorough optometrist, you need to check this place out!!! read more

Unfortunately, this was the worst visit I have ever had to the Eye Center. I brought both of my kids in at the same time because they have a lot of activities and not much available time. The kids had to wait over 30 minutes to be seen. I was also told that I had a considerable bill from previous visits. I have since researched this bill and discovered that the fees are exceptionally higher than competing optometrists. The "refraction fee" is a complete joke considering that without learning the prescription the visit is pointless when glasses are needed. At this point I have no choice but to stop using Eye Center. read more

I walked in on my lunch break to see if they could repair a missing screw on my aviators (purchased elsewhere) and she took it into the back and had them good as new in five minutes. Been seeing these guys for at least 20 years, maybe more. I've always been treated well here. Dr. Randy is like an old friend. They have a really good selection of eyeglass frames (although they are a little pricey) and their optometrists are well versed in what insurance pays for and what it doesn't pay for. If I need a quick adjustment or repair, they always take excellent care of me. read more
